Cross-platform Cloud Saves

Soon we'll be making some changes in order to support cross-platform cloud saves between Windows, MacOS, and Linux (including the Steam Deck)!

This is planned to occur on Monday, 15th of August at 05:00 (UTC).

These changes will replace the MacOS and Linux cloud save locations, and all platforms will use the existing Windows save location. This will have a few side effects:


  • MacOS and Linux users will need to play the game once for Steam to upload their existing local save files to cloud storage
  • Windows users should not need to do anything, except:
  • Cross-platform users who manually migrated their save files between platforms may have conflicting files. When steam prompts you to keep or overwrite your files it is important to choose the correct one carefully (which will depend on your own situation). If in doubt, back up your save files first!

Help: missing save files



In some edge cases it may appear that your save files are missing. First, confirm that they can't be found at the locations above. You can manually download save files from the Steam Cloud website and place them in their relevant locations.

- Fixed Aspid Hunters and Primal Aspids sometimes spitting immediately after breaking out of jars
- Fixed door in a city house staying locked sometimes after defeating the enemy
- Fixed brightness resetting on quit to menu if set to minimum value
- Fixed some camera shakes ignoring config value
- Fixed getting damaged by spikes while on a lift and ending up inside the ground
- Fixed background blur for Low and Medium options when using a screen resolution that is taller than 16:9
- Fixed Low and Medium background blur to have the same vibrancy as High

- Hopefully less hitching, and less memory usage on startup (enabled incremental GC, removed heap size increase method)

- Fixed uncollected Grubfather rewards being miss-able

- Fixed damage inconsistency with area attacks on Radiance, Absolute Radiance, and Pure Vessel
- Fixed settings changed in pause menu being reset when quitting to menu
- Fixed damage sometimes not being applied correctly to Nail Arts when using the Fury of the Fallen charm

Hidden behind the scenes, Hornet’s gigantic adventure has been growing (and growing and growing!) for well over a year now, with the very first pieces coming together right after the original PC release of Hollow Knight on Feb 24th 2017.

Almost from the very start, Hornet’s adventure was intended to take place in a new land, but as we dove in, it quickly became too large and too unique to stay a DLC, as initially planned. We do know that makes the wait a little longer, but we think the final, fresh world you’ll get to explore is worth it.

It’s time for the huge reveal of Hollow Knight’s third free content pack – Hollow Knight: Gods & Glory.



This is the big one. Take your place amongst the Gods in an epic celebration of Hallownest’s Glory and the final chapter of the Knight’s journey.

Let’s jump right into the details:

New Character and Quest – The Godseeker arrives (and your romance options expand). Track down this disturbing yet alluring being, break her chains and aid her in an ancient duty.

New Boss Fights – Hallownest’s greatest warriors raise their blades. Prepare yourself for giant new boss fights against the ultimate foes. Each new battle intertwines with the Godseeker’s quest. No specifics on how that’ll happen, but it may not be as you expect!

New Game Mode – Hollow Knight receives a third game mode. This ones been long requested and is a classic for the genre. Complete the Gods & Glory story to unlock the new mode.

New Music – Christopher Larkin is going all out for Hollow Knight’s final free pack, with new soaring boss tracks and giant remixes of some beloved classics.

Glorify Charms – Prove yourself and uncover a whole new depth to your charm collection.

Of course, other surprises will be hiding about the place, but we can’t spoil all the fun!
