Hospitalize

Weekly Dev Update [04.06.2017] - Week 11

Plans ahead

Another week went by so fast we almost forgot it was time to make another weekly dev update... Actually, you could say we did forget. But! It's almost time to patch :]

Today I'd like to share a bit of info going forward after this Hospitalize patch.

First of all, thank you all so much for participating in the 'Experimental branch'! It helped us a lot to have all of you test the upcoming patch. There weren't any changelog, so you kind of went in blind, but you caught a lot that would generally take a lot longer for us to catch. We'll definitely be doing this in the future as well for those who are interested in getting the latest content on hands as soon as possible :]

Now, on our Trello, we have a good amount of things to do. Next up is going to be scheduling and appointments. This'll make the game feel a lot more realistic as you have to plan out patient's consultations, operations, exams, etc. Staff will have to take breaks. Day/night cycle and much more. We're super excited and we hope you are as well!

It's now about time we got to the release of this patch and we'll be prioritizing exactly that the coming week. We'll see you then!

Thanks!

Weekly Dev Update [28.05.2017] - Week 10

Just a little longer, we promise!

Earlier, we presented how we wanted the Doctor's handbook to look and work.
As well as getting a more tidy and prettier look with support for illustrations, it also gets a search function. This will be an important tool for those who want to micromanage patients' records.

A search for a symptom like 'Cough', will show all pages in the handbook that mention this symptom. This way you will quickly get an overview of potential diagnoses, treatments, etc.

It will work much like an in-game wiki, as stated earlier. It's now ready to be shown the world and can be tested in a brand new 'Experimental branch'. (More on that below)

As many probably have noticed, up until now patients haven't really been at risk at any point in the game. We're now changing this and patients can now get so ill that they die. If their health is at risk, doctors will run their way and attempt to save their lives.

(Much like this guy with his defibrillators..)

With so many big changes that this patch brings, there's also the potential for bugs. If anyone is particularly interested, we are now publishing an 'Experimental branch' on Steam. There is a lot of new content available, but this is early early access and we strongly recommend that you backup your saves first, if you wish to try it out. There will be an update for this branch tomorrow as well, featuring more polish before public release.

To opt into 'Experimental branch': Find Hospitalize in your game library -> Right click -> Properies -> Betas -> Opt into Experimental branch. You might also have to restart Steam for it to update.

And with that, we're very sorry the dev update got delayed! Things got a bit hectic, but now we're back on track :] See you next week!

AND AS ALWAYS: Keep sending us those bug reports, it helps out a ton!

Thank you!

Weekly Dev Update [21.05.2017] - Week nine

Is it a bird, is it a plane?? No it's.. well, it looks like an ambulance

We're getting closer and closer to release now. I know we said "next week" last week, but good things don't come easy.. I think.

Today, we held a little event in a small town here in Norway in which we let volunteers play and test Hospitalize, and it was great! We got a lot of progress done towards a more stable and optimal version of the game, knocking out a ton of bugs!

As for the upcoming patch, we thought we'd give you this gif as a little tease:

We're seeing a lot of activity in the forums lately, and that's awesome! Great to see people are enjoying the game, and yes, we're definitely taking everything into consideration! :]

We'll see you next week with more fun!

HOSPITALIZE v.0.10.5.8

Quick little update. From now on, whenever a room IS NOT assigned, it will clearly show.. assign hallways, or other rooms which shouldn't have a specific "room" assigned, to be 'Hallways' from now on :]

Bugfixes:

  • Fixed a bug which caused a graphical glitch to the save & load menu when deleting games.
  • Fixed a bug which caused the 'Doctors handbook' to open wrong pages.
  • Fixed a bug in the 'Procedure window' which caused the game to crash.

Changes:

  • Updated sections of the 'Doctors handbook' on procedures requiring a specific skill.
  • All doors can now be stored as well.
  • Unassigned rooms will now be highlighted during gameplay to warn the player. (Hallways will now also have to be assigned as 'Hallways')

New additions:

  • New room: 'Hallway' (Empty room)

The version hasn't been completely tested, so if you happen to find problems, there is the option to opt into the previous version of the game.
You can do this by: Locating Hospitalize in your game library -> Right clicking -> Properties -> Betas -> opt into 'Previous version'

Weekly Dev Update [14.05.2017] - Week eight

Closing in, slowly but surely.

While we're continuing the work on the newest big patch, we'd like to share some information we have regarding the 'Doctors handbook' and its uses:

Right now, the game doesn't have a very good way of explaining the player how to actually play it. The 'Doctors handbook' has always been there, but it doesn't really contain very much concrete gameplay information, we'd like to change this.

We want the 'Doctors handbook' to really be something of an in-game wiki, that will guide you through the entire game. In order to do this, it needs an overhaul and will be significantly changed.

Above is a sketch of what is currently being tested, and shows how we ultimately want it to look like. It'll look more tidier and contain much more information, hopefully making it a reference table for all things Hospitalize.

All of the other windows the game offers will then have a [ ? ] in the top right, beside the [ X ] which will open up the corresponding page in the 'Doctors handbook'. Real nifty!

The enhanced tutorial will incorporate this a lot.

Over to something else, we'll be creating a new branch of the game in steam, which will be an "experimental branch". This branch will get all updates much sooner than on the public branch, but will contain bugs.

This is for those who'd really like to get their hands on new content as soon as possible, but know the risk and would like to help with bugfixing. More on this later.

Super excited for the coming weeks, things will definitely go down! We'll see you then! :]

Weekly Dev Update [7.05.2017] - Week seven

Improvements and improvements

This week, the team worked on multiple aspects of the game to make sure they're up to date with the big patch that will be coming out soon!

We'd like to share some of those things today:

  • Improved the responsiveness in general. This makes it better to manually control what's gonna happen to the patient in the 'Patient Journal'.
  • Improvements to the disease mechanics, making sure critically ill patients actually are in a critical situation. (This makes sense when the new patch arrives)
  • 'Emergency Events' are going to be a new core feature, which will consist of different 911 calls where you'll have to prioritise and send ambulance where it's needed the most.

Hope you're excited, we sure are!

We had some issues with the 'Report bug' function, but as stated in the latest hotfix, it should now be fixed and is up and running. Feedback and suggestions are, as always, very welcome!

That's it for this week!

Thank you!

HOSPITALIZE Hotfix v.0.10.5.6

Super quick patch!

Bugfixes:

  • Fixed a bug which caused a crash in the 'Save & Load' function. (This issue was tied to the 'Report Bug' function, which is now fixed)

Weekly Dev Update [30.04.2017] - Week six

Slow week, but we have some info!

Hello people of the steam forums! This week we've continued work on the next big patch for Hospitalize. We're currently making sure that we have a good amount of testers ready to test this new patch before release, to make sure it's as polished as can get!

There aren't that many other topics to cover this week, but we felt like it was time to give away a little info about the patch:

Upcoming features:

  • Ambulance! Some patients will now have to get picked up by the ambulance.
  • Emergency room. For this to happen there must be an 'Emergency room', to which the doctors will rush and hold an acute consultation.
  • Paramedics. These are the characters that must be aquired before being able to send out the ambulance.

Together with this update also comes the addition of patients actually dying. This makes everything a little more impactful. There will also be morgues and hearses together with this feature! We hope you're excited!!

That's about it for this week.. not too much information, but hopefully you look forward to this patch. Of course, that is just some of the things to come! :] We'll see you next week!

LAST NOTE: We need all the help we can get to test and furbish the game, so please continue to give us all the feedback you can.. We appreciate it all!

Thank you!
