Introducing: Hyperspace Invaders II: DX update!

It's out, 3 years after the last update!
What's changed?


  • 3 Playable characters each with their own weapons system
  • 1080p / 60fps smooth running gameplay
  • Updated sprites, shaders, effects and animations
  • Higher resolution audio (320kbps instead of 128kbps) and improved audio control
  • Added gameplay elements (behaviours, bullet patterns, ...)
  • Reset leaderboards due to the number of gameplay changes



*Edit*: Something I forgot to mention: for the 2nd and 3rd player characters there is a button 2 ("B" on the gamepad or "X" on the keyboard) which affects the behavior of your options (those little helpers you get when collecting yellow powerups)

Heads up! This game is NOT DEAD!

HIII all!

After a programming break of almost 2 years, I fired up this game again and started fixing everything that was still bothering me.

The number of fixes and additions are huge, I'm not even going to list them all, as I'm still working on it - without any deadline in mind. *When it's done* as game programmers who are serious about their game like to say.

Expect more levels, more artists, updated graphics/fx, 1080p 60fps (used to be 720p), an extra player character, less epilepsy (by popular request :) ), etc etc etc!

Some teaser screenshots, while still very much a W.I.P., are uploaded semi-regularly on the FB page, as I make progress.

HIII:PE update #6 - Startup Bug *FIXED*!

**** EDIT: Reverting to an older Steam SDK seems to have fixed the steam_api.dll problem in this latest patch! ****

IMPORTANT NOTICE: *Startup Bug* is being hunted down

People suffering from the startup bug: I'm terribly sorry for this inconvenient hyperspace malfunction!

*TEMPORARY small workaround* --> rename the "steam_api.dll" file in your HIIIPE folder to something like "_steam_api.dll".
WARNING: This will disable achievements & leaderboards but at least you can play it locally until it's fixed.

- Latest Steam SDK version: check
- Latest GMS version: check
- Latest steam_api.dll version: check but not working to desired effect... proceeding to further investigation. Message to Steam staff sent. Off to bug GMS devs. Suggestions welcome.

HIII:PE update #5 - Extra level by Neurocore + Stats!

Updates
* Added a new level/track by infamous Polish flashcore artist, NEUROCORE! -> includes a shiny new Leaderboard and associated achievement!
* Added "Statistics" on gameover: a new graphic display of how you did in the level and how far you got.

New achievements
* LEVEL 11 CLEAR!

Bugfixes
* SPEED BONUS tended to trigger on seemingly random moments. No more of that.
* Small things.

HIII:PE update #3 - Gameplay balance & small aesthetics update

Gameplay Balancing & Fixes
- player movement speed (used to upgrade over time, now fixed from the start)
- HFK level starts clean (no bosses).
- Roadblocks (aka "Rainbow Road") more controlled and not showing anymore at unwanted times.
- Certain bulletpatterns made less "impossible"
- Smaller invader bullets now always destructible with laserfire
- RETRO mode: Missing a shot now causes invaders to bump down

Graphical tweaks
- player fire/laser aesthetic tweaks (lightning arc / motion blur / color tweaks)
- GUI: new energy-meter indicating laser potential
- GUI: player life-indicators and player-bullet colors now make more sense.
- Background FX now reserved for GFX SETTING 3.

* All levels are now UNLOCKED! - in order to not deprive less successful players of the sonic peculiarities that occur in the later HIII levels.

Coming really soon: Achievements (really, no joke)!

HIII:PE update #2 - L E A D E R B O A R D S ! ! !

* That's right! Leaderboards! (finally.) -- PRESS LEFT/RIGHT in the LEVEL SELECT SCREEN to see them!
* a new enemy formation
* extra roadblocks (aka "rainbow path") behaviours
* other small stuff I can't remember.
