Imagine Earth

Imagine Earth - Green Planet Bundle and Official Soundtrack released

With a little delay, today we are releasing the Green Planet Bundle which includes our planet colonization game Imagine Earth and the official soundtrack. With the income from the soundtrack sales, you help us do something real to save the forests. We will donate the additional profit from these sales to support the Eden Reforestation Project.

Why are we doing this?

From the beginning, this project was inspired by our conviction that playing Imagine Earth would be an exciting and motivating way to experience the most urgent and unavoidable challenge of mankind - climate change. The game crystalizes a planetary ecosystem and economy into mechanics that allow you to make your own decisions on how to solve the upcoming challenges. With this in mind we were able to survive seven years of Early Access, always knowing that we were working on something that would unfortunately only increase in relevance and urgency over time.

Now with the game being ready we want to add something more tangible on top, by supporting global reforestation and forest protection with the soundtrack profits of this bundle. If you want, you can take this oppurtunity to get the game and the soundtrack and to support the planting of new forests at the same time.

To kick off this campaign, we have already donated a symbolic cent to the organization for each of our 43,400 Early Access supporters. Thanks for supporting us!

Please stay tuned, we are tinkering with a complete Early Access history recap

Imagine Earth entered Early Access in May 2014, and has been growing ever since, with updates coming approximately once a month. Today’s update is our biggest yet. We’ve rewritten the rules for competition and freeplay mode by introducing the ‘Word Congress’ - a democratic allegiance containing every faction on the planet, brought together by the threat of a climate crisis and environmental collapse.

Final Release Feature

The World Congress

This is where the battle between sustainable and exploitative corporations takes place. The World Congress is a democratic body with wide-ranging powers, to which each faction on the planet sends a representative. The factions have voting rights in the congress that correspond to their share in the galactic population. In the voting process, they decide on taxes and subsidies, funds for projects, penalties for rule breakers, and emergency aid. In addition, a representative of the United Space Nations USN is always present.

Proposal round

At the beginning of a session of the congress, each delegation can propose new resolutions, which are then voted on. When resolutions are passed they apply to all factions.

You can see who benefits from your resolutions, as well as who stands to lose out. This data will help you make calculated political decisions.

Voting round

Once the proposals submitted by the delegations are ready for voting, each faction pursues its own interests. The symbols on the representatives indicate whether they are more likely to vote in favor of or against a bill. Voting behavior is also influenced by a faction's agenda, strategic advantages and by loyalty in alliances. However, nothing is certain until the final vote is counted. Diplomatic tensions abound!

World status

This screen is always accessible and provides an overview of the state of the planet. Here you can see how different global trends develop in relation to each other.

Leaderboards

As you may have noticed, all leaderboards of the early access version have been reset for the Imagine Earth 1.0.

It will also be possible to upgrade your own space base and equip the settlement capsules with special properties.

Early Access Recap Post

To celebrate this important milestone, we will write a comprehensive summary of all the events and developments during that time. It's going to be a turbulent journey through time.

Community Survey

Over the time of development, we have accumulated a long list of good ideas that we think would be great additions to the game. However, we want to get your opinion and wishes on how best to improve the game. Get ready for a big poll around the release.

Here you'll find the official press release. Here is the release post auf Twitter from you afterwards we'd be happy if you would push it with likes and retweets.

Balancing & AI Update

Revamped emissions trading

The way the emissions levy works has been changed. Companies now have to pay compensation if they produce more emissions than their population share allows.
For example, if you produce 89% of global emissions and have 50% of the world's population, you will have to pay an emissions levy for 39%.

Balancing the threats

We had a pretty big problem here. Natural disasters rarely occurred, while invaders made their way onto the planet far too often.
Both problems have been addressed and we think we have found good defaults for competitions and free play. In addition, you can still adjust all settings in detail.

Balancing global warming

Until now, global warming mostly did not occur at all and thus many game features could not be experienced.
We have re-evaluated our balancing rules and decided to reduce the emission balancing of forests to about 60% and of land and sea to 75%. We have simulated a few game rounds based on these new values, but of course your feedback on this is much more important, so please share your experiences on this.

Improved AI

Finally the AI is able to actually win a compeitition instead of just bumbling around, giving up because it gets bankrupted or destroyed by a Xrathul or Assimilator attack.
There's still room for improvement, but in general it works pretty well.

Other changes

Build menu: Active upgrades are visualised more clearly.
Improved descriptions of some buildings
Increased likelihood of riots
Uniform fonts in the game
Reduced productivity drop for ocean farms in cold areas
Greater range of world sounds

Other fixes

Land reclamation now works correctly in polar areas
Fixed victory point selector not working correctly
Fixed planet ring not displaying correctly for barren planets
Radius of shield upgrade for city centre and border tower/buoy is displayed correctly
Fixed crash in connection with meteor graphics
Fixed that planets sometimes don't have forests when a new planet is created after a contest is finished
Fixed that pirates sometimes get stuck on NPC cities
Fixed duplicate building click sound
