Update #24.5 - It's Bug Fix Time - May 11, 2015

Hello Survivors!

We notice these minor bugs on the game that we missed to patch up, so here goes a quick update for it.

UPDATES
Here are the detailed change log for this week:

  • Dynamic Light Notification - We found some users complaining about dynamic light switch button being broken because it didn't change the effect at all. So, we now provide notification menu to tell you that you need to restart the game if you want to turn it on or off.
  • Dialog System Bug Fixes - Sometimes the game goes awry when you retreat from mission.
  • Mission Objective - Mission objective glitch is now fixed.
  • Additional Perks - Adding new perk.
  • Minor Bug Fixes - Such as melee weapon that is not working, memory leak, etc.

Other changes:
  • Zombies Spawning During Exploration - Now in the exploration mission, you will notice that zombie wave is disabled and the entire horde is all spawned with several groups in each room. You will have the sensation of discovering a lot of zombies ready to attack you at once every time you enter a room.
  • Camp Fire Oscillating Light - This is minor, but it makes the camp fire look pretty though :)

Update #24 - More Updates and Upgrades! - April 21, 2015

Hello again survivors!

Today, we are back to give you more improvements and features!

Camping System
Remember the small HQ you occupy every time you complete your mission, in the earlier version of the game? While for some times we put it aside from the game, we've re-enacted the feature and turned it into camping system. This camp will help you to take rest and prepare your survivors for next explore, such as restoring survivors' health, rearranging weapons and gears, etc. It is not fully implemented yet, but later every of your survivor will have their own camping perk that can give benefits to your current team, for example one of the survivors can automatically heal injured survivors.

Retreat While Exploring Map
As we know that in prior update, we'd recreated exploration flow and turned it into procedural map travel maze, where survivors are able to continue exploring buildings next to it. This time, besides camping, you can just cut off your journey and get back to your base immediately amid your way to other places. It's benefit for you when you feel you cannot continue because of your survivors' condition or when you're running out of time (move) to travel, as it could give you penalties. This mechanism can still be improved and still is missing few things, but we're almost there!

UPDATES
Here are the detailed change log for this week

  • Camping System - You can set a camp in the middle of your travel and make preparations.
  • Retreat - You can abort your mission and head back to HQ.
  • Additional Perks - Adding new perk.
  • Additional Songs - Adding more in-game background music.
  • Bug Fixes - fixed other more minor bugs.

Let us know what you think of the updates in the comments below!

Improvement in crafting system, material usages, and HQ construction/activity are our next goals, so expect us to finish it on some next updates!

We promise to bring more updates in the following weeks!
Thank you for being patient with us and the game's development.

Update #23 - It's All About Modding! - Mar 27, 2015

Hey there survivors!

Before I started making games, I was a game modder. My first ever game development experience was modding games back when I was in high school. It was fun to create something new and add it into a game I was playing, or just to see something stupid happen by changing a few variables.

I want people to enjoy my game not only by playing it, but also by fooling around with it and possibly creating something awesome in the process (or something funny). So, I set a few goals when I started working on Infectonator : Survivors. One of those goals was to build a moddable game that allow its players to add their own content and share their creations with other players.

I'm happy to announce that Infectonator : Survivors now supports modding! It's a work in progress, so not everything is moddable yet, but hopefully it will be in the future. Currently, you can create your own characters, weapons, teams and zombies or change existing ones.

Trying Out Mods
You can install and try our test mod by following these simple steps!

  1. Download our test mod conveniently named "testMod" here :
    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/10l8ksjnbyyia9e/AAAIzYDOghqNYDDbSriTE2L8a?dl=0

  2. Locate Infectonator Survivors installation directory. Usually it's under "Steam\SteamApps\common\Infectonator Survivors". You can simply open Steam -> Library -> Right click on Infectonator Survivors -> Properties -> Local Files Tab -> Browse Local Files

  3. Locate "assets/mods" folder inside, then place the "testMod" folder there.

    • Windows - in Windows the path should be something like this : Steam\steamapps\common\Infectonator Survivors\assets\mods\testMod
    • Mac - in Mac, right click on Survivors.app -> show package contents -> Contents\Resources folder -> create assets\mods folder inside of resources -> place testMod inside assets\mods.

This simple mod will replace Sydney with a Black and White male character.

Click on Browse Local Files to access the game's installation directory.

This is the testMod in action.

Creating Mods
To create your own mods you can follow these steps.

  1. Download game asset resources templates and examples. You can download the modding resources here :
    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/31uisfnr4ae394t/AADkz_VUj06palMzkzsLaZ2Za?dl=0

  2. Follow the link above and you'll find Character Mod template and Weapons Mod template.

  3. We use Flash CS5 to create our game assets and animations. So, we provide you with the Flash CS5 template FLA file that you can modify. If you don't have Flash we also provide you with the exported sprite images in PNG format.

  4. After you have created your own game assets, export it into PNG sequences. Then you'll need to turn it into a Texture Atlas. To do this we use TexturePacker, you can download it for free here : https://www.codeandweb.com/texturepacker

  5. Select the Starling/Sparrow format to create your texture atlas in TexturePacker. Then insert all your game assets inside. You can also check out the TPS file included in the template.

  6. The final product should be a Texture Atlas PNG and XML file. Place these files into your own Mod folder and place it inside the "assets/mods" folder.

  7. For a Character Mod to be loaded properly you'll need to include a couple of XML config files.

    1. EquipmentList.XML, an XML file that begins with tag
    2. CharacterList.XML, an XML file that begins with tag

I recommend that you play around with our testMod to learn about these XML config files.

WARNING!
Use mods at your own risk. By modding this game you may unintentionally cause the game to crash.
If you find that the game crashes, simply delete your mod and restart the game

Modding Rules:

  1. Place your mod files inside a new folder.
  2. Place the new folder inside the 'assets/mods' directory.
  3. You can add more than one mod into the 'mods' directory. Each mod should be separated with a unique folder.
  4. Avoid using the same file name. Name conflicts may cause errors.
  5. Always use this naming format [YourName]_[ModName] on the beginning of your files and textures when modding to avoid conflicts with other modders. Example "Kris_ResidentEvilMod_Characters.xml".

In the future when the system is more stable, we'll integrate this mods system with Steam Workshop. However, at this stage we are still actively tweaking and rewriting game codes to make the game more mod friendly.

New gears and perks!
Now your inventory can be added with new collection of gears, such as several bigger medic kits, scopes with longer range, an electric-powered shock-therapy portable defibrillator, and, guess what, pack of LANDMINES! Now you get the chance to be able to tactically set the mine up and let it set off to kill zombies passing it over. It has its range to make a killing area effect.
Several new character perks have also been made and added on, and soon will take effect immediately when you use them. Some of the characters haven't got perk yet and we'll make sure to make it done on later update.

UPDATES
Here are the detailed change log for this week

  • Modding System - Introduced modding into the game.
  • Extra Gears - More higher tier and brand new gears.
  • Additional Perks - New perks for some of the characters, such as quick reload.
  • Bug Fixes - fixed other more minor bugs.

Let us know what you think of the updates in the comments below!

We've done creating additional music and hopefully we add them as soon as we release next update.

We promise to bring more updates in the following weeks!
Thank you for being patient with us and the game's development.

Update #22 - Procedural Death Cities - Feb 27, 2015

Greetings fellow survivors,

With great pleasure I present to you our latest Infectonator : Survivors update, version 0.54!

Procedural Death Cities
Andrew and I have made major changes into the game and we feel that it is now a lot more fun, challenging, and awesome! We've restructured the game flow to give it more of a Roguelike (or if you prefer Procedural Death Labyrinth) feel to it, we've managed to turn the city into a procedural death labyrinth. Instead of going straight to a base camp after every mission, you can now continue to explore the town/city where every building/block is like a room in a Roguelike dungeon. The game is still missing a few things and there are still a lot of stuff that we have not implemented yet, but I hope you can see where we are going with the game.

New HQ Base Camp Site
We've also made the HQ a lot bigger. You can scroll around the HQ by dragging the screen. In the future the HQ will have more rooms that can be built and upgraded, such as: Sleeping Areas, Kitchen, Training Area, Garden Area, Infirmary, etc. Each room will have a unique advantage to your survival.

Here are some screenshots

You can also check out our awkward developer video log here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVW6nKS5Ua0

UPDATES
Here are the detailed change log for this week

  • Game Flow Change - The game now has 1000% more roguelike-like-like!
  • Tutorial ON - By default the tutorial button will be ON on a new game.
  • Bigger Badder Better HQ - Your HQ is now bigger, with lots of empty rooms that later can be upgraded into specialized rooms.
  • NPC Encounter - You will be able to encounter NPCs during town exploration. NPCs such as Merchants can be encountered and interacted during exploration.
  • NPC Interaction - You can interact with NPCs the same as you interact with searchable objects.
  • Bigger Town Size - We've increased the town size.
  • Town Exploration Time Limit - There is now a "Move Limit" when you open the Town Map. This "Move Limit" shows how many times you can move/exlpore to other buildings before the day ends.
  • Return Time - Instead of resting, we introduce "Return Time" instead. The more building you explore means that your survivors will have longer time to return/re-appear in the HQ.
  • Inventory During Battle - There's now an Inventory button on the left side of the screen when you have a survivor selected.
  • Changing Weapons During Battle - By opening the Inventory button during battle you can now able to change your survivors' weapons or gears during battle.
  • Click Issue with Popup Buttons - We've received complaints that popup buttons such as Search and Build are sometime hard to click. We've fixed that problem, you should be able to click on them with no problems now.
  • Game Over Bug - Game will now end properly when all survivors died.
  • Turret Salvage Bug Fixed - The bug that caused the game to crash when salvaging turrets is now fixed.
  • Bug Fixes - fixed other more minor bugs.

Update #21 - Mac Version Improvements - Jan 30, 2015

Hello Mac Survivors,

This update is specially made for you Mac users. Today I've just uploaded a new and improved Mac build, you should be able to get it automatically trough Steam's Auto-Update system.

What makes this build different than previous Mac builds is that I'm now able to compile the game directly to Mac executable. This is now possible because I managed to get my hands on an old second-hand MacBook.

Previously I was not able to do this because I'm using a Windows PC to build the game, to export it to Mac I must use a third-party wrapper. I'll try not to get too technical, but the bottom line is that the third-party wrapper had a few issues and was poorly updated. These problems lead to me not able to update the game's Mac version properly.

If you are a Mac user, you must have experienced your saved game suddenly disappearing. Hopefully this update will fix that problem.

Let us know what you think, and/or if you still experience problems.

Update #17 - Perks Activated! - Nov 13, 2014

Hi Survivors!

We are going to present you, the character's perks! Some of you might have been waiting for this feature and now you are able to make use of this for deeper tactical approach to the game.

Every survivor is unique, so it's better that each of them has their own extra ability that matches to their skill and personality, such as Police who is expert in gun handling in order that he's able to reload while running, or Scientist that could be described as insomniac thus has less sleeping time. If you have some more of ideas regarding perks, let us know!

VLOG AND TRAILER
We also have made new trailer and check out our first ever development vlog:
NEW TRAILER
DEV VLOG
