The “Tactical Swimming” Major Update is here!

Hello Inkulinati Masters,

We are happy to announce that the all new “Tactical Swimming” update is here, ready for download! What awaits you? New Water Beasts, new Battlefields, new Talents, a lot of balancing, and lots, lots more was added to Inkulianti.

Let’s dive a bit deeper into those new features. Shall we?

So the big addition is the all new Inkulinati army - the Water Army! This army is made up of the Sword-Wielding Fish, Spear-Wielding Fish, Bow-Wielding Fish, and the Seal.

On the Battlefields where those Beasts will grace a Big Water will arise at the beginning of a chapter. These water Beasts are immune to damage from the Big Water. When they are located on fields covered in water, their Sprint Range becomes Walk Range (it means that they will be able to attack their opponents). Not bad of a perk, isn’t it?

Water Army and Water.

Here’s a quick summary of each Beast:

Sword-Wielding Fish - a formidable aquatic Beast whose melee attacks prove invaluable in submerging hostile Beasts.

Spear-Wielding Fish - magnificent aquatic creature, akin to the Sword-Wielding Fish. However, with its aquatic spear, it can target adversaries on different levels of the battlefield.

Bow-Wielding Fish - a waterborne Beast whose attacks can flood the enemy's army from a considerable distance.

Seal - a legendary aquatic creature whose spear inflicts not only significant damage but can also pierce two adversaries simultaneously!

Where there are fish, there must be Water too. With this update Water will flood some of the Battlefields. There might be small and big fields of Water. No matter the size, while in water, Water Beasts will always have a Walk Range. At the end of the Chapter, big Water deals an additional 3 damage to non-water Beasts and to Tiny Inkulinati, as well as Battlefield elements. Between Chapters, big Water turns into small Water, and small Water disappears. And just like in nature, Water destroys Fire Sparks, Bonfires, and Bean Pots. However, Fire Sparks will destroy Water if they are created while on the same field. Yes, let those tactical braincells of yours percolate with ideas!

We’ve also added a ton of new Talents, with some that are strictly connected to water itself! As you may already have noticed, every Talent can be placed in a category. Some of them will belong to the Defensive category, giving your army and Tiny more defence - adding shields, halos, etc. Other Talents will help you with collecting Living Ink, and others will improve your damage. While getting experience during your Journey, you can collect new Talents and pick those that you like the most. Till now, you could choose one from three randomly picked Talents. With this update, it'll be a bit different. From now on, you will be presented with two Talents from the same category you already have and three from ones you don’t. This will help you choose Talents that create synergies between them, making your Talent portfolio stronger and connected. Don’t fret though, you don’t have to choose the Talents that are suggested to you. You can still pick the ones that resonate with you.

With this update we also balanced the current Battlefields. We actually spent quite a bit of time making them more fun. And that’s not all. We’ve also added a whole bunch of new Battlefields too! Now we have quite a lot of Battlefields inside Inkulinati, meaning that the chances that you will get the same one more than once during your journey are a lot slimmer.

Big and Small Waters will occur on some Battlefields. Water Beasts love them! Others not so much.

New Beast Lairs Battlefields are waiting.

There is no such thing as too many new Battlefields.

Dive into Inkulinati now and try all of our new additions. If you want to read in detail what we worked on, check our changelog below. We are now slowly getting ready for the big 1.0 release, which we will tell you more about soon. Thank you so much for all your support, suggestions, feedback, and more. We couldn’t have done this Early Access adventure without your aid. And if you have any thoughts on Inkulinati, please leave a review. That minute or two that you spend on writing the review would mean the world to us.
Until next time Inkulinati Masters! The journey to 1.0 begins.

Speak to you soon,

Your Yaza Games and Daedalic Teams

An important Update

Hello everyone,

As we approach the final stages of our Early Access journey, with Update 4 just around the corner, we have some news to share. As many of you already know, Inkulinati already includes a local multiplayer mode that makes it possible to play together with your friends while they are at your place - we have tried during the recent development process to integrate this function on an online-level - but unfortunately Inkulinati will not feature an online multiplayer mode upon its 1.0 release. This decision wasn't made lightly, and despite our best efforts to enable you to find your opponents throughout the internet, it turned out to be impossible for us and the scenario we are in. Let us provide you with some context on why this decision was made.

Initially, when we planned for online multiplayer, the game was smaller in scale, making it easier to add extra features. However, as we expanded the game with more content like new Beasts, Masters, Battlefields, Academy classes, and more, and also worked on porting the game to “various” platforms (more news about that coming here soon), adding an online multiplayer component across all these platforms turned out to be a too heavy task to burden while at the same time preparing everything for the 1.0 release. It was an ambitious goal to begin with, but at this point in development it turned out to be too risky for the game's functionality.

Essentially, we faced a choice between enhancing the existing offline experience (which we wanted to make even better and packed with a lot more content) or creating multiplayer at all costs, which might end up being very simple and not satisfying for players who are used to other multiplayer 2D strategies. The challenges of implementing online multiplayer at this stage could have potentially compromised the overall gaming experience. In other words – given our very small team – we had to make a difficult decision.

It wasn’t an easy decision, but at least for now, we decided to focus solely on the offline experience and polish it as much as possible before the 1.0 release. Our team is currently focused on creating new content, enhancing existing features based on your valuable feedback, and ensuring a successful launch on additional platforms. We want to maintain the high standard reflected in the current 89% User Rating on Steam.

While we won't have an online multiplayer mode, there is positive news to share though: Local multiplayer remains intact and will receive improvements, including new Beasts, Battlefields, and more. You can still enjoy playing online against your friends using the Steam Remote Play feature as a workaround. Additionally, new Inkulinati content, featuring a brand new water army, is on the horizon. The console versions are making great progress, and we continue to refine and expand the game. And there are even more of yet unannounced Inkulinati things that we will announce soon.

We appreciate your understanding of this situation. We know that some of you – especially those who already bought the game and counted on some multiplayer experiences in the future – wanted to hear some different news today. However, we are working together with our publisher to find a way to somehow make it up to you. Once we know more, we will let you know.

As always, your feedback is important to us, and we remain at your disposal to discuss any part of this. Depending on the future trajectory and the game's success, we may revisit the idea of an online multiplayer feature post-release, but we can’t and don’t want to make any promises about the future.

We hope we can find some understanding in you. Stay tuned for the upcoming Inkulinati "Tactical Swimming" Major Update!

Until next time,

Your Yaza and Daedalic Teams

A new Achievement, Festival, and an epic Bundle fit for a grand strategist!

Hello Inkulinati Masters,

Hold on to your tunics, as we’ve got a stack of info that we have packed for you in this update.

First off, a sneak peek into the development realm. Thanks to your comments, the "I am G-O-D-F-R-E-Y" achievement won't make it to the full 1.0 release of Inkulinati. Your feedback spoke volumes, and we've decided to level up by replacing it with a newer, cooler achievement. We heard you loud and clear on how confusing it was to obtain it and the bugs tied to the old achievement, and we're committed to delivering an even more enjoyable experience with the revised achievement list. What will the new Achievement be and just how cool is it? Stay tuned for the big reveal!

Next up, we're thrilled to share that Inkulinati is part of the Turn-based Carnival on Steam. It's a fantastic celebration of turn-based games, and we’re already flicking through the Steam page ourselves, looking to stumble upon some hidden gems. Dive into the festival, indulge in some gaming, and let those precious grey cells delight in some brain-tingling strategic conundrums!

And that's not all. With the help of our publisher Daedalic Entertainment, we've teamed up with Unfrozen, the fantastic devs of Iratus: Lord of the Dead, to bring you a Steam bundle of epic proportions (we’ve seen it - it’s huge). This turn-based tactical roguelike RPG is set in a dark fantasy universe. Even though the realms are different, the need for tactical nuance is the same. So grab this exclusive bundle, get two incredible games, and save some hard-earned cash in the process! And if you already have Inkulinati, there is no sweat - you’ll get Iratus with the bundle discount as well.

https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/36553/TurnBasedTactics_Bundle/

Finally, a small favour. If you can spare a minute or two, please consider leaving Inkulinati a Steam review. Currently, we are at 189 reviews, we're just 11 shy of hitting the 200 mark. The more reviews Inkulinati gets means a bigger promotion from Steam, meaning more eyes on our game, and for a small studio like ours, that's a game-changer <3. Also we always read your reviews carefully and listen to your feedback while making changes to the game with each of the content updates.

Thank you once again for your love and support. Dive into the wonders of the Turn-based Carnival, enjoy some fantastic games, and stay tuned as the water-themed update that we teased the last time is coming your way reeeeaaal soon.

Until next time,

Your Yaza Games and Daedalic Team

A tease of what’s coming in the next major update

Hello Inkulinati Masters,

We hope you've been enjoying the recent additions in our previous major update. How are you finding the Ape Army? A bit rowdy, aren’t they? And how about St Francis and his Army of Pigeons? Well, we can’t stop here though, can we? Oh no! Here at Yaza Games HQ, we've been crafting the next Inkulinati additions. Care to see what we’ve been working on? Splendid! Follow us in that case and just watch your head right here… and here we are. Welcome to our studio.

There's been a bit of a buzz about a mysterious new army joining the world of Inkulinati. While we can't reveal all the details just yet, one can say that there's something a little fishy about these new Beasts. Actually, there’s one just right there! Allow us to introduce you to the first member of this enigmatic ensemble - the Seal! This new Beast has the uncanny ability to control an all-new element that’s being introduced in the next update. We can’t spoil too much for now, but the one thing that we can say is that the Seal can definitely make a splash on the Battlefield.

Everyone, a new Beast! The Seal.

We can’t show you all the Beasts just yet, as that would be what some refer to as “spoilers”, but don’t fret, we will reveal them slowly to you in the coming weeks (however, for those with a keen eye, there might be another new Beast featured somewhere in this update. Where could it be…). And what else have we been working on? Well, we can say that we've been revamping the Battlefields. What we wanted to do is give you a more balanced and engaging experience on all the current maps. At the same time, we've also crafted a delightful assortment of new Battlefields that will soon become part of the game. Allow us to show you a sneak peek at a few of them.

And last but not least, a little inside scoop - we will add new Talents. Will these talents have something to do with a new element that is being introduced? Quite possibly… We will also make it easier for you to decide which new ones to pick up too, but we will reveal all the details properly when the time is right.

Finally, before we leave, we want to ask for a little favour. If you can spare a minute or two, leave us a Steam review. You see, the Steam algorithm works in such a way that the more reviews a game has, the more frequently it will be recommended to new players. And the more Inkulinati players we get, the more content that we can prep for you. So please, leave a review if you can. It’ll mean the world to us.

Until next time,

Your Yaza Games and Daedalic teams

The Ape Professor and the Frenzy Ape Army are here!

Hello Inkulinati Masters,

We are thrilled to announce the much-anticipated arrival of the third Major Inkulinati update, specially crafted for your enjoyment. Brace yourself for new and exciting Beasts, features, Tiny Inkulinati Master, Battlefields, and other improvements that will add more Medieval manuscript sparkle to your Inkulinati experience!

First and foremost, prepare to meet the brand-new Inkulinati Master - the Ape Professor, who brings with him the unique and highly formidable Ape Army. These fresh warriors will undoubtedly add a whole new dimension to your gameplay, offering thrilling challenges and strategic opportunities like never before. They certainly don’t… wait for it… monkey around.

The Ape Professor is equipped with three Hand Actions: Awakening (wakes a friendly beast up from their Nap and gives them an additional Turn in the current Chapter), Mass Headache (gives a Headache to up to three selected enemy Beasts), and Swat with Infection (strikes the selected target for 5 damage and Infects it). In Duel mode, The Ape Professor has five Talents to use: Plague Immunity (Professor is immune to Plague), Painful Fingers (moving enemies with hand Actions cause Headache), Ape’s Anger (when Tiny gets damage from an enemy attack, a random enemy Beast gains Headache), Plague Business (for every infected Beast on the Battlefield at the end of the Chapter, Tiny will gain 1 drop of Living Ink), and a Non-Daily Headache (if Professor's health drops below 50%, a random enemy Beast will gain a Headache at the beginning of each Chapter).

The Ape Professor and his Ape Army.

Now that we introduced the new Inkulinati Master, allow us to tell you a bit about the Professor’s formidable Ape Army, featuring the mighty Broom-Wielding Ape, Belt-Wielding Ape, Goblet-Wielding Ape, and the ever-curious Professor's Assistant. Their extraordinary capabilities are an adventure waiting to unfold in itself, so we will leave the joy of discovering their prowess entirely in your hands. However, we’ll leave you with one tip. What unites almost all Apes (except Profossor's Assistant, he has more important things to do) is their profound appreciation for Frenzy. Each Ape soldier possesses one level of Ape's Frenzy, which will increase by 1 at the end of their turn. Now, you may be curious about the wondrous effects of Ape's Frenzy. As this captivating Frenzy takes hold, it removes Infection, and with each level gained, random effects will be added to Ape’s attacks. A word of caution though: just like with everything in life, it’s all about balance. Should Ape's Frenzy exceed the maximum level of 3, a Headache will befall, leading to a loss of the Ape Frenzy status. As with any great power, moderation is indeed the key to triumph.

Ape Professor and Apes.

But that's not all! Alongside the captivating addition of the Ape Professor and his Army, we're introducing a series of fresh, new Battlefields that promise to immerse you in visually stunning and tactically diverse settings. Your battles are about to become even more thrilling and unpredictable.

Two examples of new Battlefields.

As seasoned tacticians, we understand the importance of honing your skills. With this update, we proudly present the opportunity of a lifetime. You may now fine-tune your Inkulinati tactical prowess with new Intermediate Lessons in the Academy. Our newly added lessons will teach you some new cunning tips and tricks that will elevate your gameplay, ensuring you can outwit any opponent that crosses your path. Just imagine the look on your friend’s faces when you battle them next with your new found knowledge…

New Intermediate Lessons in the Academy.

With these exciting additions, we're pleased to introduce a new "pause" feature that’s designed to make your life easier on your Journey mode adventure. Based on your feedback we’ve also re-jigged the Dance Macabre, and we’ve implemented a lot of other various enhancements. For a complete breakdown of all the changes, please refer to our Changelog below. Enjoy the new Major Update and we look forward to speaking with you again soon.

Until next time,

Your Yaza Games and Daedalic Teams

Major Update #2 “Dragon, Hares, and the Beast’s Lairs” is here!

Rejoice Inkulinati Masters,

Well, would you believe it - the second major inkulinati update is here. It’s done, tested, and ready for you to download! We’ve received a lot of great feedback from you since our release, and this update is a result of all your comments, thoughts, and ideas. In this update you will find a bit of everything; new Beasts, a new type of battle, changes to gameplay, new talents, a new Academy class, and loads, loads more. Let’s dive in then Inkulinati Masters. Shall we??

We know that a lot of you are wondering about the new Beasts (heck, we’re excited about them too), so let’s start with those. There are now four new Beasts joining the Inkulinati roster - two Hares, Bees, and the all-powerful Dragon. The Hares are the bigger and more vicious cousins of Rabbits. The Mighty Hare (the one with the Mace) smashes its weapon so hard that whoever receives that blow will get a painful Headache. As you all know, Headaches are a serious issue as any Beast that has one can either move or take an action - not both. That can certainly throw any plans you might’ve had out the window, giving you a headache in the process too. The Hare with the Basket is also one vicious Beast - he uses puppies as explosives! And if you get hit with this cute explosive, you will get a nasty Headache too. Now, if you think this is as bad as it gets, you would be wrong. This Hare also eats the puppies that he carries (told you it gets worse). Why would he do such a travesty?!?! Well, by doing so it allows him to regain health, but also - Motivation, which lets him go through the whole range of movement and still perform an action. Pretty powerful stuff. So the lesson is “Beware of the Hare with the Basket”.

As of right now, you will also be able to play with, and face against the Dragon! This is the most powerful Beast in all of Inkulinati. It’s also the Beast that costs the most amount of Living Ink. It flies around in stylish eyewear, bites enemies which causes Infection, spits fire which creates Fire Sparks, and is itself immune to Infection and Fire Sparks. What a magnificent, legendary Beast. You will also get to meet the hat-wearing Bees. These little Beasts may not have a lot of life, and they lose health when they attack. However, when they do sting they make their enemies Bloat, making them explode upon their death. Plus, the Bees have a really cool, tiny hat. Sure, seems like a frivolous thing to mention, but it would feel like a missed opportunity not to do so.

The next major addition coming with this update are the Beast Lairs. Thanks to them, you will have a new type of battle in the Journey mode. The Beast Lairs are an element on the Battlefield from which opposing Beasts emerge from time to time. You win the battle when you destroy all the Beast Lairs on the Battlefield - and all the opponents. There are four different types of Beast Lairs, and all spawn different Beasts. The battles against them are intense. However, if you come away with a victory, your rewards are also greater than a normal fight.

Next up, is our new Faculty system. From now on in the character creator screen when you venture out and start your Journey, you can choose your Faculty which determines your specialty as an Inkulinati Master. Each of the nine Faculties represents different strategies and synergies that you will use during the game. You can choose a Faculty that is designed specifically to your needs. Hate to be pushed around, and off the Battlefield? There’s a Faculty for that. Looking for a strategy that can defeat Heretics? There’s a Faculty for that too. Take a look through them and see which one suits your style of play.

We’ve also added tons of new features that will add replayability to the game. It was your feedback in fact that made us improve this. We’ve added such features as the aforementioned Faculty system, a new Act that’s unlocked after completing Journey mode for the second time, leaderboards, a rating system, new Non-Battle Locations (look out for the Alchemist and the Princess!), and new hand actions too! Ooo, and we’ve almost forgotten - we’ve added a new Academy Tutorial too, this time presented by Hildegard herself.

These are just a few of the new additions that are coming in this update. There are a few more that we haven’t mentioned too. If you want to see the full list of changes, have a look at our changelog which is just below. And as always, keep that feedback coming! It’s thanks to you that Inkulinati is becoming a bigger, better, and more polished game. There is more content in the works too and we would love to hear what else you would like to see coming. We believe that this Early Access phase is an adventure, and we’re doing it together with you. So leave your comments, join and comment in our Discord, and tell us your thoughts.

All the best and speak soon,

Yaza Games and Daedalic Entertainment
