Patch 1.3.8 - Fixes!

On November 4, 2015 we released a split-screen mode for you and your friends to enjoy. Today we are bringing you several fixes to make sure you can continue to enjoy slaying all those nasty aliens.

Fixes

No more dropping through levels
Several community members reported that they sometimes fell through levels at the beginning of a match. This is now fixed and you should no longer be able to free fall down the map when you join a game in Multiplayer.

Fixed wrong font in chat for clients
It was confusing during multiplayer matches to see different fonts being used for the chat. We now made sure that everyone sees and types in the same font.

Fixed chat over other players scores in multiplayer
We received multiple comments that it was annoying that the chat-window was being displayed over the scores of other players. This was not intentional, but we made sure that the chat now stays in the right corner.

Password pop-up button fix
When trying to join a server with a password both buttons said: ‘Cancel’, while one of them was meant to say: ‘Join’. This is now fixed.

Dead camera sound fix
Whenever you get your brains eaten in a multiplayer match you need to wait 20 seconds before you respawn. Unfortunately, up till now, you were never able to hear the sounds these players were making. This took away your opportunity to enjoy the sounds of dying aliens by the hands of your friends. Now that this is fixed you can once more see how your friends gain super high multipliers because you’re not there to steal their kills!

Achievements
The achievements that were tracking your overall progression of completing levels should now all work again. These achievements weren’t unlocking when players tried to unlock: They walked into my gun / Jerrycan / Hardened / Insane in the membrain.

Direct X Update
We’ve received emails from players reporting that the game would crash on launch. This was solved by updating Direct X. Because of this, we are now forcing a Direct X update check when you launch It came from space, and ate our brains. Should you still experience problems, please send us your crash logs and we’ll make sure to work on further improving your experience.

Finally, we wanted to wish all of you happy holidays!

Patch 1.3.1 - Splitscreen and items!

After an awesome and successful beta of the splitscreen mode we have published an update on Steam that includes this feature, and more, for the world to enjoy! The following features are now available in ‘It came from space, and ate our brains’:

Splitscreen

Thanks to all the feedback from our testers we have optimized the splitscreen mode, a mode that allows you to play with up to four players from your comfy couch! Killing aliens and protecting your brain is now even more awesome!

Simply start up a game, get your friends to pick up their controller and with the press of a button they can join the alien slaying carnage!

Purchase support items!

No longer do you have to depend on just the S.W.A.T. drone to drop items that you need to survive. Once you have scavenged enough coins during a game you can now simply purchase the items that you need from a new purchase window! Purchase an additional medkit, make your last stand with a dozen turrets or fight your way out by purchasing a shield! We’ll leave it up to you to see how far you will go to protect your brain.

Increased performance and stability

The game now runs smoother than ever before! We’ve made a lot of fixes that increased the performance and stability of the game!

Multiplayer connection issues solved!

On September 15, 2015 we reported that we experienced major connection problems with the server that is responsible for the NAT punch-through for It came from space, and ate our brains. These issues have now been fixed and you will be able to join and host multiplayer matches without any connectivity problems.

We ensured that this is a permanent fix, so you will be able to slay aliens from anywhere, at any time, 24/7!

We recently announced that we are coming with a four-player split screen option. We will have more information regarding the release date of this feature available soon!

Currently the team is also very busy with the recent release of our latest game, Cross of the Dutchman. More information about our new game can be found on the Steam store page:

Multiplayer connection issues

Hello everybody!

[UPDATE: September 17, 2015. We have fixed this issue, you can now play multiplayer matches again. We are planning to roll out an update later today that will permanently make sure that something like this never happens again! Thanks for your understanding!]

We are currently experiencing major connection problems with the server that is responsible for the NAT punchthrough for It came from space, and ate our brains. You will likely experience problems discovering servers or connecting to other players. Know that you can still connect directly by entring the IP of the server manually.

The upcoming patch will contain a change that ensures us that we do not rely on a single server, but that we're able to quickly switch in case something like this occurs.

The issues will hopefully be solved within the next 24 to 48 hours. Our ISP maintenance staff is not nearly as quick as we had hoped they would be ...

Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Slay aliens with friends on your couch!

Hey guys!

The team is still very busy with the ongoing development of It came from space, and ate our brains, so it is time to bring you all up to speed with what we are doing right now! We are now focused on developing… A split-screen mode! With this mode you will be able to play with up to 4 friends on the same screen that will be filled with chaos, bullets and aliens!

We wanted to let you know that even though we don’t have an exact release date for this feature yet, we hope to bring it to you all this summer! Here are two screenshots, one featuring 2-player co-op and another one with 4 players:

2-Player splitscreen

4-Player splitscreen

All players will be able to explore the entire level and do their own thing if they wish to do so, there are no restriction in terms of maneuverability or range. Raging on a player that doesn't heal you or resurrects you has never been this easy!

Please note that we are still tuning and experimenting with this new feature. If you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments! We love your input!

Patch 1.2 - New items, settings and awesomeness!

Today we are bringing you all a very cool update that includes some new items and features! The new items we are introducing will increase the survivability of players on higher difficulties and allows more strategic and cooperative gameplay. Let’s start off with the new items that were announced last week and how to use them!

The S.W.A.T. drone drops care packages from time to time which help players survive and get higher multipliers. In previous versions the drone dropped 3 variants of care packages: coins (yellow), a med-pack (blue) and a temporary weapon upgrade (pink). We have now added a green package that can drop the following items:

- Shield
- Search lights
- Mines
- And….. Turrets!

These items are classified as ‘secondary’ items, which can used on your command by pressing the right mouse button or X on your controller. You can only carry one of these items with you at the same time.

Besides adding the new package we also redesigned the med-pack (blue package) to work completely different.

Picking up a green care package dropped by the drone!

Shield

With the shield you can protect yourself from all incoming damage for the next 15 seconds, while damaging aliens that are attacking your shield. Use this item to get yourself out of danger!

The shield in action! Protect yourself against incoming aliens!

Search lights

Search lights allow you to deal massive damage to all aliens that step into one of the three lights circling around you for 15 seconds! Use this item to wreck up your multiplier, help your friends in danger or when you are cornered!

Make sure those aliens get hit by search lights for massive damage!

Mines

When you have picked up the green package you also have a chance to get landmines that you can place on choke points where a lot of aliens pass through. You will get a total of 3 mines that will explode when an alien walks over it. It will deal massive damage to all aliens standing close to the landmine and you will get the score and multipliers from the kills!

Place up to 3 mines and lure aliens in your trap.

Turret

A highly requested feature by the community was to add turrets to the game. The only thing we can do is to deliver this item. You can now place turrets at strategic positions throughout the map and get an extra high multiplier, since kills made by the turret count towards your score. The turret has a total of 150 bullets and is ignored by aliens.

Plant a turret on strategic places in the map and let the points roll in!

Medic 2.0

As stated before, we have redesigned the blue care package dropped by the S.W.A.T. drone! The medic no longer just gives you +1 HP but allows you to carry the med-pack with you. You can use this medic whenever you want and when used close to fellow players they will also gain +1 HP! This creates opportunities for a more tactical gameplay session when playing with friends or strangers. Oh, and the best part? You can also use it to resurrect players that are dead! Just make sure you stand close to your fellow players when you are using this item.

The medic bomb will allow you to save you, your friends and the dead!

Customizable settings

Another requested feature by the community is to able to edit more settings, allowing players to tailor the game to their wishes. First of all, we completely revamped the menu, making it more clear what settings can be edited, but from today we also allow players to edit:

The score labels:
You can now select if you want to display the score labels for every player, only yourself or turn them off completely.

Damage text:
You can now select if you want to display the damage your are doing for every player, only yourself or turn them off completely.

Screen shake:
You can now decide how much you want your screen to shake when you are firing guns or are on the move. You can turn the screen shaking off completely, reduce the shake, have it set to normal (how it is now) or make it even more extreme!

Turning off the score labels and damage text for all players will increase the performance for players that have a low specced PC, since the system doesn’t have to display this information anymore.

System improvements & Alien Data

We have improved a lot of stuff in the code regarding the network (multiplayer) and alien data. To make a long story short: we have improved the stability of the system, solving major multiplayer issues, networking issues and made sure that the aliens don’t eat all the performance of the game. The aliens should focus on eating your brain, not your performance! :cruncher:

New achievements!

With the implementation of new items we are also bringing you a total of 5 new achievements. These achievements are:

- Hold the Line: Place 5 turrets.
- Tread Carefully: Place 15 mines.
- In The Spotlights: Use the searchlights 5 times.
- Loving My Bubble: Use the shield 5 times.
- Saving The Day: Revive 5 people using medkits.

The features of next week!

Next week we have an exciting update for you all! Today we would like to give you a sneak-preview of the stuff that is coming next week! First let’s start with something that will affect the gameplay on many levels!

New items in care packages

We are going to implement a total of five new items that will be dropped by the S.W.A.T. drone that flies around in all the levels. The items will increase your chances of survival (especially on harder difficulty modes) and allow you to get higher multipliers! These items can be found in a green package, which will randomly give you one of the five available items. This package works similar like the pink package, which randomly gives you a temporarily weapon upgrade from a random weapon. The following 4 items will be available on June 11, 2015:

An additional item will be available from the care package, but you will have to wait and see what item from the image below will be added to the game! Which one would you like to see? :cruncher:

These item suggestions were initially made by community members, thanks a lot! We would like to especially thank the following community members: Paradise Decay, Magic Never Happens (Jigoo!), The doctor is in, mP3+Z.

Revised settings screen

Starting from next week you will have more freedom to customize the settings of your game. And we included some requested settings:

Adjust screen shake;
Hide floating damage text;
Hide Score labels.

Alien update

We have improved the alien spawning and data, which will result in a more fluent gameplay session, especially during multiplayer sessions. This will make sure that multiplayer games will run smoother and will solve issues that players had during their sessions together.

Patch 1.1.6.2.

This week we are bringing fixes that prevented players from playing Block Scrapyard and prevented players from getting achievements. Besides these fixes we would also like to announce that next week we won’t be releasing an update for the game, but don’t worry! We are planning to release a nice update with super cool features in week 24 that were requested by the community! So stay tuned! (June 11, 2015)

Quick upgrade now works with max weapon upgrade achievements

Players were unable to gain all the achievements regarding upgrading their weapon to the maximum upgrade. We have now fixed this issue, allowing players to gain these achievements by upgrading their currently equipped weapon with ’Q’.

Block Scrapyard can now be completed

A collision bug prevented players from moving in the lower regions of this map. Users were also unable to defend their valuable brains from all the nasty aliens that want to eat it! Weapons now correctly fire bullets again and can deal damage.

Thank you Jello, for reporting this bug!

Patch 1.1.6. - Lock & Load!

Patch 1.1.6. - Lock & Load!

Hey guys! This week we are addressing various issues with the achievements and added a much needed feature that will make your multiplayer games a lot more comfortable! Here are the patch notes of 1.1.6:

Achievements

- We have fixed the achievement ‘Shotgun Maniac’
- We have fixed the achievement ‘Splat!’
- We have fixed the achievement ‘Got your back’

Quick upgrade

You will now be able to quick-upgrade weapons with ‘Q’. When you gathered enough coins you can press this button and it will automatically purchase the next upgrade of the weapon that you currently have equipped. This allows you to quickly upgrade your weapon without having to open the weapon upgrade menu, which -as we all know- can be a hassle in the middle of a fight. You can also use quick upgrade during a singleplayer session, so you don’t have to pause your game.

You can, if you desire, change the keybinding in the settings.
