Steam Open World Sale

Howdy!

Our game Kalaban is currently on Steam Open World sale, ending on May 31, 2021. If you haven't acquired the game yet, or want to purchase it for a friend as a gift, now is the perfect time to do so!

Since the original launch in 2016 we have welcomed more than 47,000 players onto the game. We're really happy to hear that players around the world have finally found our game, since it largely went unnoticed upon launch.

Kalaban is also available on Humble Bundle store and GreenManGaming site, if you prefer those retailers.

If you haven't checked out newest game Enemy Remains yet, it's currently in early access. Since its launch in February we've made huge updates into the game experience, implementing story content into the main campaign, and major visual and gameplay improvements.

We also released a new story-oriented demo after receiving a lot of feedback of the old demo version. The game is fully compatible with controllers, and it includes local co-op multiplayer for both the story campaign and survival modes. Enemy Remains is also playable via Remote Play, which turns the experience into online multiplayer type of deal.

Many of the technical features requested for Kalaban such as the mentioned controller support, multiplayer mode, and custom resolutions are now included in Enemy Remains.

Enemy Remains launched!

Howdy!

Our new title Enemy Remains is now on Steam early access and available for Windows, Mac and Linux platforms. The game is an intense blend of topdown action and survival horror.

While continuing the legacy built by Kalaban, the game is not a direct sequel and does not require playing the first game to enjoy. We've been especially happy with the visual fidelity that we've been able to bring with this new generation release.

The game can be played solo or with a friend in couch co-op, and this time we've taken special care to include game controller support out-the-box. Many simple quality of life improvements also include graphics settings, such as custom resolution and graphics quality settings, which were one of the most requested features for Kalaban.

Enemy Remains is currently on launch sale for 40% off -- so grab your copy now to get the game for an especially low price. Happy hunting!

Version 1.2.2 released!

Howdy!

It's nice to see our game gaining more popularity, with more streamers and reviewers discovering the product. We've been hard at work creating new games for all of you to enjoy, and we're gonna share some recent updates with you.

But first let's talk about Kalaban. It's been almost four years since the original launch, and nearly six years since the project was first envisioned. That is a really long time in the business as most games, indie or big, come and go so quickly.

I've spent the last couple weeks overhauling the game's code, dusting off the old tomes of programming and art that are linked to this project. I've made a lot of improvements, and couple of overhauls that I wish you players will appreciate. As always, I hold keeping the original game in high regard, and I have no wish to re-do the whole project, and if I ever start such a remastering project, it will be a separate game entirely .. and with a bigger budget.

Here are the changes I've made in brief:

  • Fixed starting bug where your previous inventory did not disappear.
  • Fixed death on loading new scene bug.
  • Revised fullscreen / windowed resolution changing.
  • Optimized background graphics.
  • Mouse item highlight revised.
  • Added arrow keys for movement.
  • Minor fixes for particle effects.
  • Minor fix for the scene transition descriptions.
  • Revised brightness and contrast visuals and settings.
  • Enemy obstacle collision revised.
  • Enemy pathfinding revised.
  • Projectile enemy AI revised.
  • Minor graphical revisions for background graphics.
  • Melee hitboxes and collisions revised.

Enjoy!

During this year we've made massive leaps forward with game development. We've been updating Area 51 Defense extensively after it moved out of Early Access in last December.

The game has gotten lots of cool features, that we're excited to see you players discover. The level editor has received a complete overhaul, with tons of new graphics and custom tiles added. Area 51 Defense truly feels like a comprehensive survival shooter at the moment.

We're planning on adding Defense and Campaign game modes next, and we've got awesome ideas for an extra campaign DLC. All the usual features like automated turrets, fellow AI soldiers and vehicles will also be seen in these new game modes.

Go give the game a spin, and tell us what you'd like to see next!

Another bigger event in the horizon is Enemy Remains, which is currently in early testing stage exclusive for our Patreon supporters.

The game is an action-packed continuation to the world created in Kalaban, and will challenge even the most seasoned top-down shooter fans. The focus this time will be on survival horror, environmental storytelling and facing gameplay and level design challenges. The battles will be more intense and also packing much more punch. Environments this time will feature destructible obstacles, dynamic objects simulated with real physics and traps to punish the careless players.

Explore this adventure with your friend in couch co-op mode or face against an endless horde of monsters in the survival mode. Frights and thrills are to be expected when you venture into the corrupt little town and meet it's denizens in a fully 3-D experience!

Join our Patreon today to gain full access to the game being created, with tons of extra content like behind-the-scenes stuff and DRM-free builds of our other games.

Kalaban has reached 35 000 players!

Hello there!

We just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of our players for making this milestone. Our game is part of the Jingle Jam 2019 bundle on Humble Bundle, and through this awesome opportunity we have gained a lot of new players.

Kalaban's development began in November 2014, and we started developing the current version of the game in late January 2015. Two years later the game was released on Steam, to a small audience of fans. The game has divided players, and while others really love it and understand what it's trying to achieve, others just write it off as a trashy little indie game.

If you have played Kalaban and enjoyed it, we would appreciate a review from you. Spread the love!

Our game is now on anniversary sale, plus we have put our other game Area 51 Defense on sale also. We can't wait for the year 2020, and all new challenges it will bring.

Thanks for this year, and have a happy New Year everybody!

GRM now on Patreon!

Hello there!

We recently created a Patreon page to help us get our next project off the ground. Hybrid Children has been making rapid progress, and we already have the first prototype of it for our backers.

Our goal is to get the game into Early Access by the end of this year, and a public demo build out by Halloween 2019. Your support can help us achieve this goal!

The game was recently added to Itch.io and IndieDB as well. Here are the links to all those pages:

Steam Summer Sale 2019

Howdy!

The summer is here, and the heat in Finland is immense. Seriously, I thought last year we had a fantastic summer up here in the Far North, but now it's been even crazier. During midsummer, last weekend that is, I witnessed huge thunder storms and sunshine during one day.

This year has been incredible so far, and a lot of stuff has happened. In February we released an RPG on the mobile called Crypts of Death, and its reception has been great! I've also been helping out on an unannounced horror shooter project, doing character art and additional code for it.

In March I created this prototype demo for a story-oriented action-adventure game, called Hybrid Children. I applied for a grant of 5000 euros (approximately 5680 dollars), but sadly wasn't able to get the funding to develop this prototype further. What do you guys think? Should we do an Indiegogo campaign on the game, to get the funding necessary to finish the project?

The screenshot above and the ones below are from that prototype. It was created in Unity, and is fully 3D as you can see. I also did a couple of test with a more Kalaban style perspective in addition to these.

Kalaban is now on discount on Steam, Itch, HumbleBundle and Gamejolt. Have a great summer everybody!
