Update #7 - New enemy !

It’s really hot in our office, but not hot enough! That is why we added drakes that spew fire in arcade mode. You can play it right now. We also worked on the difficulty for arcade mode, and added a feature where if you are more than one player the enemies will be tougher as well. Let us know your feedback on discord or in the comments. You now also gain XP in arcade mode.

Changes

  • Better jump for grunts where they will jump faster.
  • More accurate attacks for grunts, they are now faster.
  • Fixed several bugs causing the grunts to get stuck in animations while dying.
  • Balancing: Enemies now have more life when you play more than one player.
  • Fixed bug where enemies could spawn on top of each other when you tab out.
  • Fixed bug where if you dragged out walls and the building round ended, the GUI would still be there.
  • Fixed bug where music would get stuck in arcade.
  • Fixed bug where sounds would get louder in arcade.
  • Music in arcade is now more dynamic and changes after each wave.
  • Spike traps now work in arcade.
  • Soaker now works in arcade.
  • Added a new enemy to arcade mode which spews fire and fly.
  • New map for arcade mode.
  • Grunts drop more coins now to enable players to build bigger castles in arcade.
  • There is now less time in between grunt waves spawning.
  • Added brutes and drakes to later waves.
  • Fixed physics bug when grunts die.
  • Fixed bug where archers would have two helmets.

Update 5 - Introducing Arcade Mode

The summer is upon us. What better way to spend a evening than firing up under KnightOut to keep your mind off that terrible sunburn you got.

KnightOut now features an arcade mode.
In arcade mode you will fight against hordes of enemies, singleplayer og co-op with a friend. We implemented Steam leaderboards so you can compete against us and other players which really gives it another dimension. Currently it features 3 different enemy types.

It’s a work in progress and we are actively working on it. We want to improve the AI and add more enemies that we already have been working on. The mode needs some more variety but we want you to get your hands on the mode as early as possible so we can get a better idea of how to take it further. With your help we can take the game mode to the next level, so please leave us your feedback.

Changes:

  • Fixed bug where weapons would be red when build.
  • Fixed bug where regents couldn’t escape from player 3-4.
  • Fixed bug where weapons would face wrong direction when going back to main menu.
  • Added new playmode Arcade with three enemies.

Update #4 - Profile and 25% off !

We updated KnightOut with a profile section where you can check your progression and see what you can unlock. We also fixed a bunch of bugs and added some small tweaks.

The game is 25% off this weekend (from 10 am pacific time).

Changes:

  • Bear traps now resets at the start of the building phase.
  • Added “Press “X” key to continue” to load screen.
  • Added “Next tip” to load screen.
  • Added Archer hat for the knights.
  • Added bounce animation to mushrooms in mushroom forest.
  • Fixed bug where it wouldn’t show keyboard controls in tutorial for left keyboard controls.
  • Profile added to main menu, you can now see your unlocks and level in the profile.
  • Added damage indication on objects, they now shine red on hit.
  • Fixed bug where the player was unable to destroy weapons with swords.
  • Fixed bug where if you set gold in customized match it would carry over to the tutorial.
  • Added controls in pause menu to the tutorial.
  • If pausing using the keyboard, both players can use the keyboard and it swaps between showing controls for each player.
  • You now need less XP to gain a level.

Update #3: Ease of Life

Changes:

  • We added an info panel when building that shows player controls.
  • We added player controls when pausing based on the player who paused.
  • The player who paused will now control the pause menu.
  • Added controls to bumpers and triggers on controllers. (RT, LT now draws shield, RB interacts with items and LB attacks.)
  • We reworked our system when a player goes back to main menu. (Hopefully it fixes the bug with getting stuck at loading)
  • Added instruction screen before starting a game.
  • Added 4 different loading screens with tips for how to play the game.
  • Fixed bug with left bumper not changing item on XBox controllers.

Update #2

Changes:

  • Fixed bug where the regent could get stuck in the air if he jumped on another character.
  • Fixed bug where catapulted stones could get stuck on the ground.
  • Adjustment to the flee function of regents, should make them not flee when there is no players or they are dead.
  • Fixed bug where the knight would run backwards and be unable to attack.
  • Fixed issue where your gold in tutorial would depend on the gold you set in customization when you went back to the tutorial.
  • Updated the shader for building, it now doesn’t glow in the mushroom map and doesn’t have unwanted graphic artifacts.
  • Fixed bug where cannon balls would do more damage the longer you play.
  • Fixed visual bug where explosion from cannon balls would be delayed.
  • Fixed bug where king would jump through walls, now he won’t jump if there is an object on top of him.
  • Default build time reduced from 120 to 90 seconds

Update #1


Thank you for playing KnightOut and for giving us feedback on the forum and discord.

Changes:

  • Duplicate player bug is fixed: We now check if there is a player already on the map, if there is we can't spawn more.
  • Explosion damage from cannons reduced from 150 to 49. Because the cannons needed to be balanced so it wasn’t only a battle of cannons.
  • Restart tutorial is removed: There is a few bugs with this function but you can restart the tutorial if you go to main menu and then run it again.
  • Increased wood walls vulnerability against explosions.


Stuck at loading screen:
If you get this bug we would be happy to hear how you got it. We have been trying to figure out where it comes from and how to fix it. We have done some adjustments, but the bug may still occur.

KnightOut is releasing in early access March 27 !



After 3 years we are finally releasing KnightOut into early access, we hope you will join us on this journey.

Along with that comes a new trailer.

Exciting right? The game is not finished yet, if you should be in doubt. At the moment the game contains:

  • Local multiplayer*
  • 16 items to build
  • 4 different maps
  • Different gear to unlock
  • A tutorial for 1-4 players


* You can play with your friends online via Steam’s “Remote Play Together

Which means that there are more features and content in the making. We have been polishing and bug fixing in order to craft the best experience for backers and new players. We will use early access as a testing period and update with more features as we go along.


Since we are a very small game company (mainly just two people) we could really use your help. We would love to hear your ideas and feedback on the game so far. Either in the comments or on our discord channel.

The royal will flee! New lobby and stage - v.3.8.9a



It’s been a while. Since the last update we have been working on a single player campaign and online multiplayer but we are not ready to reveal those features yet.



Changes:

  • We changed the king on the blue team to a queen.
  • The king or queen will now spawn different places on the stage within your building area.
  • The king or queen will flee as the opponent approaches. They will run and jump away.
  • There is a new stage called “Deep forest”.
  • We added a new more interactive lobby when you join a game.
  • Lot’s of optimization and bug fixing.
  • Level system
  • New hats, portraits and portrait frames

Versus mode, which is one of the main features, got a big overhault. These are some of the new features.

  • New and better GUI
  • A new objective: you knockout the King and rebuild your castle after each knockout. You need 3 knockouts to win.
  • There is several ways to collect coins. A chest drops from the sky but you can also steal the enemies coins by knocking them out and they will drop some of coins they collected during the round.
  • Now all 4 players can build compared to before where only 2 players could build.
  • We added 7 news items, including different weapons and traps.
    There is a new drag’n’drop build system, which makes it a lot easier and faster to build.
  • We also decorate your castle with doors and hatches when you drag out a room.
  • There are different ways of doing damage. Acid, fire, stone and melee. Different items have different weaknesses.
  • We added separate colors to each player to better differentiate who is who.
  • As you can imagine this part of the game feels and plays a lot different now.
