Quick update for Kreedz Climbing released and what's up!
Hello climbers!
We've quickly released an update for Kreedz Climbing that fixes an issue with the map editor where some brush entities (for example trigger_multiple) didn't have any default Flags ticked, which meant unless you ticked them yourself, the triggers didn't do anything when placed!
This is a clientside update that doesn't require server restarts, so you won't see any notification ingame. Steam will download the update automatically.
We want to thank the server hosts again for their effort and time in maintaining their servers. Our speed has been up and down due to real life, there's only two developers and we aren't being paid - Rest assured we are still working on the game!
Our next big feature, as promised, is still the Workshop. We've been releasing updates in the mean time - our next one will focus on issues that have been found with the trigger_push entity, and addressing some issues with demos!
Thanks again for your patience, we're doing all of this for you! ːsteamhappyː
Update for Kreedz Climbing released
An update for Kreedz Climbing has been released. This patch will be automatically applied by Steam within 15 minutes. You may have to restart Steam for the update to immedietely start downloading.
Please note that when a patch is released, the currently running servers will be out of date and won't show up on your server browser anymore. Once they update they will appear again!
Changes:
trigger_bhop_teleport now accepts a player attaching to a ladder as being on the ground and will allow players to touch it again.
Teleporting to a checkpoint resets jump fatigue, so you can jump again immedietely.
Fixed missing Russian translation for the Art Tool in Advanced Options - Thanks KZ-Rush!
(Plugins) Updated ModEvents.res - Added proper descriptions for all events, added several new ones, and added descriptions of various internal Kreedz Climbing values, such as Environmental Attributes and Keys.
(Plugins) Updated tagarena_start_round event - Now the event specifies if this is the pre-round countdown start or the actual round start.
(Plugins) InvalidateTimer console command can now be run by plugins, and will invalidate a player's timer instantly when run on them.
Bug fixes:
Fixed an issue where checkpoints were causing players to lose their Surf / Bhop mode.
Fixed an issue where teleport triggers were causing players to lose their Surf / Bhop mode.
Fixed an exploit related to the checkpoint Stuck command.
Fixed not being able to use the flashlight when first person spectating another player.
(Plugins) Fixed garbage value in player keys when they use the hook.
What's new with Kreedz Climbing!
Hello climbers!
We're doing a progress update! Firstly, you might have noticed a game update - that's the hard work of the Russian (translated by the KZ-Rush community) and Dutch translators being added to the game (a big thank you to them!). The update is client-side and won't need servers to restart.
Next up, I again want to say a big thank you for all the positive feedback we've been getting. It's very encouraging to hear so many people like the game, and also have so many suggestions (we're taking note!).
We'd like to take a moment to also give a big thank you to those who are finding the issues with the game so promptly and letting us know. Fixing these issues wouldn't be possible without those who go to the effort of finding ways to reproduce it and letting us know. It's because of you we're making the game better!
Right now our next "big feature" is Workshop integration. KZ has always been about the maps, and making it easy to share them would be a great step forward for the game. This isn't the only ideas we have - improving the checkpoint system, adding more entities and so on are also on our list, based on what the community have been requesting.
A common request is more competitive options, especially things like Steam leaderboards. This is another thing we've been carefully looking over our options for. Steam offers us many things, but freeform hosting we could use to run servers isn't one of them, this means that since the game is free, the developers rely on community hosted servers which leads to difficulty ensuring that all servers offer the same regulated environment.
Despite these challenges, please do not take me as saying things like leaderboards will never happen! We're very excited at how far we can take the game, and understand competition is a core component of KZ. We just ask you bear with us (there's only one programmer).
Lastly, we'd like to point out how great the server hosts are. There wouldn't be a game without you! ːsteamhappyː

Please note that when a patch is released, the currently running servers will be out of date and won't show up on your server browser anymore. Once they update they will appear again!
Changes:
Added a toggle to the Advanced Options that can turn off the message on screen that you need to press your respawn key (F2 usually) to respawn twice.
F2 and F4 (respawn and gototimer) can be used to instantly respawn out of deathtrap trigger_legbreaks now.
You can now set checkpoints while attached to ladders.
Remove the health keyvalue from func_button, as it was leading to some exploits on maps. The health keyvalue was a legacy feature and was replaced by the "Damage Activates" spawnflag - please use that instead!
Bug fixes:
Fixed the new checkpoint issue that's appeared since the previous update (checkpoints not being reset).
Fixed checkpoints not remembering the angle you set them at on the 3D plane (up and down).
Fixed players disconnecting in a trigger that's attached to a TestActivator filter crashing the server.
Fixed the respawn command requiring double presses when exiting spectator, also fixed the kill command needing to be sent twice.
Fixed teleporting into a trigger_player_movement_attributes from another one causing unexpected stripping of attributes.
Update for Kreedz Climbing released
An update for Kreedz Climbing has been released. This patch will be automatically applied by Steam. You may have to restart Steam for the update to immedietely start downloading.
Please note that when a patch is released, the currently running servers will be out of date and won't show up on your server browser anymore. Once they update they will appear again!
Changes:
Added the ability to directly disable Art Tool drawings from the Advanced Options menu.
Added the ability to turn the Climb Timer background off from the Advanced Options without adjusting HUD opacity.
Changed the default FOV to 90.
The "kill" command now makes you respawn as if you had pressed F2 and doesn't actually kill you.
Increased the speed that autouse uses entities (0.10 second interval now).
Checkpoints have been updated to remember your state at that checkpoint when teleporting to it. This means if you had a powerup when you set the checkpoint, you will get it back when you teleport, and conversely lose your powerup if you didn't have it when you teleported. This applies to all grantable states, such as the Powerjump.
Added a confirmation when pressing F2, you now need to press it twice quickly to respawn at map spawnpoint.
Bug Fixes:
Fixed a bug where doubleducking in a confined space can cause you to start sliding along the ground (kz_xmas2006).
Fixed a bug where you can get stuck in the ceiling if you jump with your head against a displacement (kz_karnak).
Fixed an exploit related to the teleporting abilities of checkpoints, gototimer and respawning at the map spawnpoint.
Fixed trigger_movement_attributes entity always removing the attribute when you leave the trigger regardless of the flag settings.
Fixed Tag Arena elimination maps never ending.
Fixed player visibility settings being applied to Tag Arena, making other players invisible.
Fixed ED_ALLOC crash on servers that haven't changed maps in a long time and have seen a high amount of players.
Fixed two trigger_nocheck entities inside each other being able to cancel each other out.
Fixed scoreboard not always updating the course name that players are on.
Fixed plugins being unable to change the number of medals a player has.
Fixed trigger_multiple refire time changing depending on how many players are in the trigger. This was causing bugs such as stripping of the Powerjump becoming unreliable on high population servers.
Fixed the filter_multiplayer_kzmod entity behaving strangely if you disable a player's allowed status while they are inside a trigger.
Fixed console spam when playing on a server that needs to update itself.
Tag Arena Changes:
Increased the distance that the SEEKER name tag appears.
Map changes:
kz_cookbook, kz_egyptian_halls, kz_xmas2006, kz_minimania: Fixed several exploits.
kz_mix_multitude: Updated for the Steam version of Kreedz Climbing (thanks Charles Wenzel!).
kz_tutorial: The first phase of the overhaul is complete, the tutorial now tells players what keys do what, the tasks have been streamlined and a new minimap has been added to practice what you've learned on.
The engine was updated to the latest version in this update. The changes are:
- Improved Steam Voice support
- Removed sv_use_steam_voice convar. Steam voice is now selected via
"sv_voicecodec steam"
- Fixed demos not properly recording Steam Voice status, resulting in
potential corrupt voice in demos with differing default settings
- Will now use the native Steam Voice sampling rate, instead of
clamping to 11kHz
- Improved compatibility with Steam client beta
- Added CELT audio codec currently in use in TF2 and CS:GO
- Server operators may enable use of this codec via "sv_voicecodec
vaudio_celt"
- Steam voice remains the default voice codec in all SDK2013 games
- Fixed security issue reported by Amat Cama via GeekPwn
- Fixed security issues reported by Justin Taft from One Up Security, LLC
- Updated engine with recent stability and bug fixes from TF2
- Updated handling of game language setting to match Team Fortress 2
behavior:
- Steam per-game language setting is now properly honored and syncs
with the in-game setting
- In-game UI language now honors above language setting, rather than
improperly using the Steam client's UI language setting
- Users wishing to have separate UI and audio languages may pass
-audiolanguage on the command line
It's hoped these engine fixes will solve some issues players have been having relating to VAC. Please let us know if the issues are not resolved!

Incoming Kreedz Climbing update!
Hello climbers!
So, we're finally in a position to release this update (within the hour!). Before we talk about the update though, it seems really important to explain the reasons why it ended up taking so long, so please bear with us!
When we first managed to get Kreedz Climbing onto Steam thanks to the voters on Greenlight, we originally intended to release small updates very quickly (one or two days apart) - Updating is a rough process though for both players and servers, and after an update is released there's a time where there aren't many servers up and players are playing different versions. We were very pleasantly surprised by how many servers appeared, and even using the autoupdate scripts we provided, servers may be down for unspecified amounts of time.
We decided to release bigger updates over a longer timespan, a week or so, to try and reduce the impact on players. Obviously this has taken much longer than a week though, so you're probably wondering what went wrong here:
Kreedz Climbing, back when it was a mod, had a playerbase, but no where near as large as after the release on Steam. With that many players comes a lot of testing, and some exploits were found in the game that urgently needed to be fixed. After those exploits were fixed, new exploits were found, which were also considered urgent. Since we decided on a weekly update schedule, if we released what we had fixed immedietely, these newly discovered exploits would have to wait a week before being released. We found this unacceptable, so we pushed the update back to accomodate them. We ended up in a situation of constantly pushing the update back, especially if fixing an exploit wasn't a simple job, and releasing the fixes became ridiculously overdue.
I hope everyone can attribute this to inexperience, but all the same, we apologise for making the game seem unsupported for so long. We've fixed the most critical issues we could find and this update is going out. We thank everyone for your patience and understanding!
The update itself also brings a greatly improved tutorial map which should address some of the issues that players have been having with it. It focuses now on showing what keys do what, and streamines the tutorial by simplifying the jumps. Finally, you can practice what you've learned on a brand new minimap, available after exiting Jumper's Heaven!
Stay tuned for the full patch notes when the update goes out. Thanks again for your patience!
Kreedz Climbing - What's up!
Hello climbers!
So, things have been pretty quiet on the announcement side - What was intended to be a quick update has gradually been getting bigger and bigger!
This wasn't a big surprise - Kreedz Climbing, back when it was a mod, had a moderate playerbase, it's had a lot of players now though and some of them have found some nasty bugs we need to fix. These great bug reports (thank you very much for this!) have sort of trickled in. We originally wanted to release updates regularly, but there's so many servers now (which is another thing we're really greatful for) that it would be a pretty significant interruption to the playerbase for them to be going down to update constantly.
This has sort of gotten away from us, but please be assured the two developers are working very hard to get things in order. We'll let you know about the changelog soon, and also talk about our improved tutorial that we hope will alleviate some of the problems new players are having.
Thanks for reading, have fun!
Hey, where's my update?
Hello climbers!
A quick update: We were intending to release an update a few days ago, but we've been told about some important bugs that need fixing so it got pushed back a bit. Sorry about that!
It's great seeing so much interest around the game! We'll let you know what's up with the update once we have it ready.
Community News: Boiling over with Activity
Hello Climbers!
A lot is happening around the scene and behind the curtains! We are excited to see so much action lately as Kreedz Climbing continues to trend in the free games category. So far we have clocked nearly 25,000 game installs!
2 New Guides Your 2 favorite Developers have both written a new guides along side our other numerous projects for you to check out and rate:
*Dedicated Server Setup Guide
*Kreedz Climbing Terminology/Jargon
Plugin explosion imminent: Many community created plugins are being worked on or are already done alongside our own Toplist, which has a global quality, including all normal jump stats and course records as well as extensive personal and Tag Arena stats.. A few servers like Surf Gateway have their own stats plugins and the House of Climb server hosting 24/7 Tag Arena Elimination also has a lot of special plugins. There are more on the way behind the scenes in direct coordination with us as well. Good times!
Map explosion imminent: We have also noticed a great deal of energy in the mapping zone. Many mappers are either converting maps from various games around the scene to Kreedz Climbing and also many making new ones, including myself!
The Tutorial map problem: Me and Raptor have watched a lot of videos and listened to community feedback and I have spent the entire day today making very necessary changes. The changed map will be part of our next update Friday or Saturday latest so stay tuned! kz_egyptian_halls: 2 powerjump exploits removed.
After the update we will be heading straight towards the Steam Workshop implementation. We believe this is the most important next step after fixing these minor release bugs.
As a last little bit, our Discord Server got filled overnight and is also seeing a lot of action. In case you missed it, go ahead and add us!

Community News: Toplist, 3 new servers, Tutorial video and Discord!
Hello Climbers!
We have been very busy. Let's jump right in!
New Toplist Server + 3 Game Servers 007 has been hard at work installing a new server that will host the long awaited global Toplist stats page for Kreedz Climbing. All servers hosting the plugin can have their stats sent to the global list. This server also already hosts 2 game servers and a third is to follow. Check the server names for [toplist] if you would like to join in the competition! One server hosts all maps, one hosts only easy maps, and the third will be for bhop maps.
New Discord Community Server Duggy, our new Community Manager, has set up a great discord for you guys to join and get to know each other. Help each other out or just chill!
Use the web app: Kreedz Climbing Discord or add the server directly in your Discord desktop:

A Tutorial Video for the Tutorial Map I took the time yesterday to address a small problem for those confused about our tutorial map. Kreedz Climbing is a very complicated game for someone who has never played a Source game before. Getting a map to explain everything is impossible. In this video I explain some common things that I have seen go misunderstood about the tutorial and the game.
Lastly, in case you missed it, I added a new Mapping Guide with 10 videos covering some of the special Kreedz Climbing map entities, like timer set ups, and a Server Setup Guide from Raptor is also coming soon! Check the Guides tab to see if you missed anything you might need.
