Hey there, long time no see!

Before you get excited, this is a very small update. It basically only adds headlights to the car in Episode 1. I did this to quiet one of our Discord users (Hi there Not Again! I'm not really mad, this was a fun thing to do).

Now just to make this post more worthwhile, here's some news on Episode 4: The Apocalypse.

The base for it is done. It's a full on rogue-like, set in the world of Lakeview. Your task is to take your truck across a wasteland, collecting precious tools and resources on the way, while fighting bandits and cannibals.



The route is full of danger, and it is up to you to make the best strategic choices on where to go.



There is also the option to help the innocent people ravaged by these lands. Or kill them for precious resources.



Precious resources you ask? In the spirit of Lakeview, that resource is POOP! You have a new replicator system installed in your truck, and it takes some of that precious bio-matter to print items. What items? That depends on what you find on your travels!



And that's where it's at right now. I've talked on the Discord server about my struggles with addiction and depression, which sometimes affect the development a lot.
I also talk a lot about having sex with your moms, so if that's what you're interested come join us already! I'd like to think I'm a very transparent developer, and I'm trying to be honest about my mental health, but it might not come clear if you only hang around the Steam discussions.

Hello everyone!
I'm so sorry I haven't been able to update the glaring mistakes in the Saw bonus.
I got extremely sick and have been fighting a fever and coughing my lungs out for the last couple of weeks... But I'm now feeling better and managed to get this little patch done this week.

I feel like I should've updated you all better on my situation. Well, I guess I did, on Discord. So if you're not there yet, feel free to join the server to be better updated on all the matters and general shenanigans!

Speaking of the community, I've lately been talking about getting a proper beta running for the upcoming final episode. I tend to leave quite a bit bugs in, since I'm such a "shoot from the hip" kinda guy (or maybe I'm just an idiot). I probably missed something extremely critical with this build also.

Lately some players have hoped to help with early testing, to find these bugs before public releases, and I do agree that it would help with the rogue-like nature of the Apocalypse. More details will be talked about on the server! Come come come!



Anyway, here's a little list of things changed:

v0.39

All Episodes:

- Added the megaphone and rake items to the replicator. You need to beat the corresponding bonus levels again, sorry!
- Added a check system for characters who get stuck by their neck (on the treehouse for example)

Studio Bonus

- Fixed the ending not showing alive characters.
- Changed the hammer room up a bit
- Fixed the characters clipping out when dying on the chair game
- Added a new secret ending

As some of you might have noticed, I've been taking it easy for the summer to spend more time with my kids and just to relax generally. I watched a lot of movies, played a lot of games. Just kinda rekindled my love for games and horror once again.

I haven't been all lazy though! The Bonus mode for Episode 3 is now released! You can access it from the Penthouse tv if you've beaten the episode.

Inspired by the Saw franchise, you are tasked to survive a mixture of traps and escape your doom.
I wanted to make something extra hard and just torture players even more so than before.

Quick patch v0.37

Hey there, just a little patch before I leave for the cabin! ;)



As you can see, I've mostly been working on the Bonus mode for the Studio Episode, which is actually more like a completely new Episode. The environment is completely new, and I've been having a lot of fun with it!


But I still have some nice fixes for you all:

v0.37

All Episodes:

- All the masks should now display properly when using a hiding place or any other interactable point

Episode 1:

- Made sure the granny gets disgusted by the poop
- The fire extinguisher should now work on an active character (mainly for co-op)

Episode 2:

- Made fire work properly
- The cops shooting mechanic should not disable anymore when they move between floors
- Made the jetpack keep working even if you use the elevators
- Fixed one of the trolleys always appearing on the first floor in the same spot
- I started work on a tricycle, forgot to remove it for this build so have fun with the unfinished one for now!

Episode 3:

- Added ceilings to the secret corridors
- Made sure the zombies don’t get stuck on the broken balcony
- Added some missing sound effects
- Fixed exploding the secret wall with dynamite

v0.35 aka The CO-OP update

Hey there people with friends! Here's a little patch that has been a long time coming: fixes for 2-player mode! (There's some other stuff thrown in too but whatever ;) )

All Episodes:

- Two players can now play on the same keyboard
- Fixed the peeking mechanic not working on co-op

Episode 1:

- Changed the flare ammo to be completely orange, so it won’t hopefully be mistaken with the shotgun shells
- Fixed Player 2 getting stuck on the upper rope (though you can’t use the same rope at the same time)
- Added censors for the habitants of that other cabin

Episode 2:

- The ghouls now only attack if you’re not carrying anything and aren’t near a pushable switch
- The ghouls can destroy luggage trolleys now
- The cosplayers can be knocked out again
- The actors won't go insane by doing nothing anymore
- You shouldn’t be able to create acid holes leading into empty spaces anymore
- Made the killer sliiightly slower
- Added a sheriffs hat, the cops wont shoot you while wearing it
- Made Walt actually move between floors instead of just teleporting
- Fixed the censor stuff stopping working when moving with elevators

Episode 3:

- Made sure both players have their own cinematic effect on when playing in co-op
- Added a censor for that thing you can do with the fellas





Patch v0.34 aka the "F**K LUGIN UPDATE"

Hello there!

One of the new things in this update is aimed at streamers: The option to censor a lot of the lewd stuff in the game! Just go into the options in-game (a wrench icon in the pause menu) and turn off the +18 icon.

But the big part of this update is the Hotel. Hold on to your butts, here's some backstory on what happened:
I've been meaning to get back to working on it for a while now, but I've just been pushing it back to work on new content. There's a lot of stuff that I didn't like in it, and neither did some of the players.

So, about a week ago our beloved Discord member Lugin posted a big critique of the Hotel, and that finally gave me the boost to actually get off my ass and start working on it again. So thank you Lugin, and also F**K YOU LUGIN! YOU DIDN'T THINK PAPA ROOPE WOULD ACTUALLY DO IT?!? ːsmilingredː

(I really appreciate all the feedback and critique, so get on the Discord and maybe you'll get an update named after you)


Here's what has been changed across the game:

All Episodes:

- Added an option that allows you to censor all the nude stuff! Just turn the +18 stuff off in the games options (in-game, wrench icon in the pause menu)
- The characters won’t react to corpses through walls anymore

Episode 2:

- Made the killer faster and gave them new music
- Changed the intro cutscene to something that shows a lot better what you are doing
- Reworked the whole detective stuff, now you need to find 3 murder scenes and… Well figure it out!
- Reworked the whole secret boss
- The cosplayers now go inside rooms that have slightly open doors (you can shut them by using them) or that are public places
- Reworked the ghosts to be useful in a certain situation
- Reworked the candlestick to… Something else
- The bathtubs now require you to be naked again
- Added a little bit more items that have no use. Or do they? Likely not
- The killers might turn the lights off in a corridor after you’ve beaten one of them
- Added a couple of new cosplayers and made all the other cosplayers unique with little differences
- Gave all the actors reaction sounds, also added more cosplayer sounds
- The luggage trolleys should now have a lower chance of spawning on the same floors
- Made sure the trolleys appear on the map correctly
- The babyface mask now conceals your identity from the cosplayers, as do all the other masks
- The cops will now only shoot you if you have been “canceled” by the cosplayers
- The cops will now move between floors
- Reworked the “love” room animations and gave it a simple reward


Episode 2 Bonus:

- Added a salt shotgun

Episode 3:

- The secret wall can now be destroyed with an explosion

NEW BONUS EPISODE!

Hello everyone! Been a long time since a big update, so get ready for a doozy!


The new Bonus mode for the Hotel episode is now out!

This time the characters find themselves in the middle of a spider infestation. Taking inspiration from older NES titles, you need to crawl up the tower, filled to the brim with new weapons and enemies, and face the biggest threat ever seen in Lakeview Cabin!

On other news, some of you may already know that I was asked to join the new Dread X Collection, which is releasing later this month! Check out the trailer for my entry, which is also my first ever 3d title!

On OTHER other news, things have never been more exciting at the Lakeview Discord! We’ve just started having movie and game nights with the community, where everyone is welcome to participate!

I’ve also started occasionally streaming my work progress, which has allowed the players to get a better insight into what goes on in my mind, with some sneak peeks into future episodes. Some viewers have even gotten little easter eggs in the game dedicated to them during these streams.

- Added the option to delete the save file for Episode 3 at the photobooth

Episode 1:

- Fixed some issues with the animations of enemies
- Fixed a pathfinding problem inside the bathroom
- Fixed the footstep sounds playing when driving the car

Episode 2:

- ADDED THE BONUS MODE FOR THIS EPISODE!
- Added foreground elements to some floors
- Hopefully fixed the hotel randomisation sometimes not working, leaving all the elements at the left bottom corner


Back from the depths of dread!

Hello everyone!

Sorry for being so quiet during the beginning of this year. As some of you might already know, I was asked to participate in the upcoming Dread x Collection 5!

I've been itching to make something in 3D for most of my career, so I jumped at the chance to do just that! So now I've spent the majority of my time learning how to use Blender, and then developing a little 3d game called HUNSVOTTI for the collection. Now that work is about done, and I'm getting back into developing Lakeview Cabin 2 full-time again. And what's better than posting a little patch to ease myself into this project. (I'm hoping to get a bigger update out soon-ish, with a bonus mode for Episode 2.)

Here's what has changed (not much but it's a start!):

Episode 3:

- Fixed the enemies becoming pacifists if hit when distracted (eating a trashbag, etc)
- The tractor is now more deadly when fixed
- Added little fix that prevents your characters from “exploding” when exiting doors (this sounds horrible, I know)
- Tweaked the melee system a bit (not sure if it fixed the problem that some players have had)
- Added a little easter egg for the ending if you can find it

Hello!

Little patch before the holidays begin. I was on the Lakeview Discord today, talking about my plans for the game, and realised I should probably talk about them here too.


Right now there’s stuff that don't seem to do anything at all, or stuff that seem to have no reward.
I’m planning a big update for the first quarter of 2022 that will add a proper challenge system to the game.
It will basically be a list of images, that I can use to hint at certain things being possible, and will act as this hidden guide through the game. Completing the challenges will unlock new items for the replicator and maybe even some Episode specific “shortcuts” and whatnot.

- Dynamite sticks shouldn’t stop burning when put into containers anymore

Episode 3:

- Added a hiding place in the penthouse bedroom
- Fixed the ending not activating if the characters are dead
- Fixed the tractor sliding out of its place when hit
- Fixed the robot getting stuck when falling from the roof
- Increased the time the robot cleans up messes
- Reduced the robot speed increase after being watered
