Today you will learn about mercenaries, weapons and how you get those weapons!
Let’s start…
Mercenaries
Mercenaries are simple folk - you pay them and they work for you. In the realities of Legendary Hoplite this means that you use your Combat Points to make them perform an action during combat. What actions can they do? Multiple: clean up obstacles, buff allies, debuff enemies, set traps, etc. Different levels of chapters usually have corresponding mercenaries related to the plot and environment. For example, in Chapter 1 we have a grave digger.
What will a gravedigger do? He will dig up graves on the cemetery map and this will prevent ghosts from spawning. This is especially useful against Cerberus, who can summon ghosts from the graves.
Arcana and more Legendaries
Arcana are special set items. When a player has 2 or more items from the same set, they will receive a special effect of that Arcana. They will also have their own unique animations.
One of the sets consists of Dragon Tail (spear), Dragon Tooth (sword), Underworld’s Rift (shield) and Underworld’s Darkness (helm). Shield allows you to turn enemies into skeletons, spear increases damage from all sources to the enemies hit by it, but we won’t tell you what helm and sword do. But we will tell you what some of the set bonuses do. For example, when you have 3 pieces of this set you will spawn an allied skeleton each time you kill an enemy and a chance to spawn a skeleton archer alongside it. And 4 pieces give all your skeletons poison attacks, give a chance to spawn two skeleton archers instead of one and allows you to summon a Colchian Dragon!
We also want to share a couple of new legendary weapons. Cronus’s Harpe sword allows you to designate an area where time stops. It affects both allies and enemies, but enemies will take more damage while they are under this effect. And if you kill an enemy with a melee attack there is a chance that this will reduce the cooldown of spells. Frozen Heart shield sends a sphere of cold - with ice spikes around it - dealing damage and slowing enemies hit. When the sphere reaches location - it explodes dealing damage and applying a slow effect on all the enemies nearby. And with enough enemies in front of Dio, Frozen Heart will attack them with ice spikes, dealing damage and slowing them.
Drop system
The system is quite simple, really, as it consists of two components: Blood system and General system.
Blood system guarantees a 100% drop chance, but you will only receive loot (items or coins) from it after killing a new type of enemy for the first time in combat. Each time you encounter a new enemy, you'll receive loot, allowing you to have a variety of choices for equipment.
On the other hand, General system affects all enemies and provides you with a chance to obtain an item from every kill. However, the drop chance is much lower compared to the Blood system. Additionally, the General system does not have a predetermined quality or type. It randomly determines various attributes (type, stats, skill, etc.) once it confirms that you should receive an item.

Today we prepared even more information about what enemies await you in Second Chapter, a new tower and war techniques to further improve your towers.
Let’s start…
Tritons
In legends Triton was a son of the Poseidon and Amphitrite - gods of the sea. But, at some time during the Greek and Roman era, his name became nominal for merman and mermaids.
You can see that our mermen are pretty scary and seeing one would send an unprepared peasant flee, while mermaids are as beautiful as they are deadly.
These are only 5 types of mermen and mermaids that you can face on the battlefield and some of their skills might surprise you. For example, a shieldbearer can throw a shield which will bounce between your towers, while a mermaid with staff will apply a debuff that reduces attack speed and movement speed.
Witch
While the Ancient Greek language doesn’t have a word for a witch, it is still a recognizable image. Maybe she can be better described as “pharmakis” - someone who gives out medicine, and “aoidos” - enchantress, because one of the main abilities of this tower is that it can both heal allies and damage enemies.
Witch can focus on either being a support tower - which will improve healing output and add debuff to her spell list - or a summoner and summon all kinds of…aid.
War techniques
War techniques allow you to further improve and fine-tune your towers. Let’s see three examples: Moonlight arrow for Archers: if there are enough enemies on the same lane with Archer, Archer will fire an arrow that pierces all enemies and deals a percentage of their current HP. Ares’s Spirit for Stone Walls: stone wall buffs Attack Speed of every unit behind it in the same row. This effect doesn’t stack. Apollo’s Gift for Musicians: musical notes now deal google damage, but they also affect allies.
There will be a lot of different war techs and some will even change the playstyle of towers!

Sophrosyne or Improving yourself
As you could see, we removed all four old passives and replaced them with 12 new ones. These passives are unlocked when players upgrade their stats to new passive boxes, and they unlock according to the player's level. Players can replace the passive by clicking on it and view its information by hovering over it.
New lines are divided into four categories: strength, agility, endurance, and leadership. Each category has three unique passives that offer different boosts to the player's abilities. For example, the strength category includes Powerful Arm, which knocks enemies back further with each ranged attack, and Fury, which increases critical damage and block break.
Weapons worthy of Achilles
With new passives comes an arsenal of new legendary weapons.
The Ice Carver is one of the legendary range weapons with unique active and passive skills. The active skill allows you to unleash an ice spear forward that deals cold damage and freezes enemies hit. The passive skill applies Chill effect to your ranged attacks, which reduces the enemy's AS/MS. If an enemy's AS/MS reaches 0, that enemy will be frozen.
Another legendary range weapon is the Life Breaker, which has an active skill that allows you to select an area and cause enemies in that area to receive a debuff that includes reduced movement speed, reduced attack speed, and reduced fire resistance. Enemies affected by this debuff will have a mark on their head. When this mark lasts and the enemy is killed, it will explode, dealing AoE damage. The passive skill allows normal attacks to apply the Burning effect.
The Lightning Rod is the third legendary range weapon with an active skill that allows you to throw a spear straight forward, piercing the first enemy hit and slowing its movement speed. A lightning chain jumps between Dio and the enemy hit by the spear, which stuns all ground-type enemies that touch it and deals damage over time. The passive skill gives your ranged attacks a chance to cause an explosion with stun. This passive is stronger when you receive the Static Form buff, which appears in the yellow box.

First, we want to thank you for playing Legendary Hoplite: Ajax’s Trial and discussing it. Your feedback will help shape the game and make it even better.
This is why we want to talk about your feedback and tell you what the future holds. Let’s start!
There were discussions that some passive skills are stronger than others. And, yes, some passives might feel stronger - in a short campaign. This is just a prologue, just one chapter - you’ve seen a small part of what the game can offer. While the Ajax’s Trial version may have limited content and relatively easy difficulty, we can assure you that the passive skills that provide non-damaging effects are just as valuable as those that deal damage.
Who wouldn’t want more starting points?
We have carefully designed the passive skills to be versatile and effective against various enemies and situations, which can further enhance the player's character and army build. For instance, if troops are upgraded to higher levels, our reliable wooden fences will get thorns. Those thorns will damage enemies and apply bleeding effects. And stone walls disarm enemies that hit them and, upon collapsing, deal huge damage upon those unfortunate who destroyed them. Or, as another example, the "Arc Slash" skill allows the hero to attack enemies that have already passed him, which is especially helpful against spiders. Some players pointed out that the UI and visual clarity of the game could use a bit of improvement. And we can assure you - in the final version, we will improve the visuals and user interface. One of the comments regarding UI was about comparing weapons. Please, consider this: there will be a lot of different weapon options that support different playstyles. Sometimes you will have to choose from different item levels or the different quality to push onward. Clear indication which weapon is “better” might halt progression at some point.
We also saw some requests that asked us to allow placing structures and soldiers in a row just in front Dio. Unfortunately, we can’t do this for two reasons. First, gameplay. This row is used for Dio to perform Minion summoning skills and other actions. Second, visual. With so many units and with all the rows filled it might feel really cramped. And it will also look like Dio is hitting his own allies.

Our plans also include adding gamepad control and adding Steam Deck support - so you will be able to play the way you prefer!
Other than that we can assure you that we are working on every bug that was reported. And if you face some technical issue - you can always tell us about it on our Discord server.
