V0.92 - Hotfix/patch

A quick update in-between our normal schedule, as I felt these changes were important enough to justify a quick patch

A new toggle in the settings menu has been added to enable "reduced motion sickness". This option Will remove the camera sway, cursor follow & deck waves.

Changelog



  • New settings toggle for motion sickness reduction. This option will help those that do not found their sea legs yet!
  • Changed the 'locked npc' minimap icon to a 'x-marks-the-spot' icon, as it clashed with the door icons. The X will be more clear as a point of interest on the map. We're pirates after all!

V0.91 - Room Patterns

And another month has passed, lots of feedback gathered this time!
This month was a bit different, as I tinkered a lot with the dungeon generator part of the game.
As most of you know, the generator is creating a bunch of rooms, merging them and filling them with set-pieces and random enemies. Well, I thought that we could improve on that and add full blown rooms as set-pieces into the mix!
This means we can design complete rooms with objects, certain enemy types, puzzle rooms & treasure rooms for you to explore!
These rooms are (usually) themed in one way or another, and can be found on different runs. They can have certain rotations and certain door positions to create hallways, corners and dead ends.
I'll leave out the rest of the details for now, as they can be found on the Discord if you want to read about it.
For now, have fun with the new handmade rooms and let me know what you think :)

Changelog



  • A new system that includes whole rooms as set-pieces
  • Handmade rooms for each ship type, containing new puzzles, treasures, themed around enemies, and more!
  • Wall lanterns should no longer block set-pieces (not including previously specials rooms like the storage-room)
  • Removed the old puzzle rooms with rolling barrels and spikes, as they were... bad...
  • Fixed set-pieces always being mirrored, which leads to incorrect placements of 2x2 and 1x2 pieces.
  • Fixed rolling barrels starting with incorrect rolling directions, leading them to roll over objects and getting stuck.

  • Improved dev tools for set-piece creation to iterate faster (and includes enemy spawns)

V0.90 - Green Chests

We're back again with another update! This time a bit smaller in size than usual.
As an update with just a bunch of fixes isn't that interesting, I fast-tracked a mechanics that was still on the backburner; the green chests!
These green chests finally made their way onto the enemy ships, ready to be opened. They contain better loot and can even drop doubloons & voodoo items without a health cost! However, watch out for their contents, as with such a big reward, they are more likely to be boobytrapped.

Changelog



  • Green chests! More rare than the other 2, but highly valuable at times. Watch out for the bombs though!
  • Chests now have a chance to spawn an item from one of the following item pools; cargo, vault, voodoo. With the last one being exclusive to green chests.
  • Chests no longer spawn the jewellery items, which makes them shop exclusives.
  • Added a new (rare) secret room variant that spawns some doubloons.
  • Big tree boss flower size have been increased to make them easier to spot.
  • Big tree boss shield phase now also changes the colour of the health bar to better show what's going on.
  • The quest for killing Blackbeard on ship 2 has been changed to big tree kills.
  • Altered the poison gas colour a bit to make it easier to see on ship 2.
  • Fixed the door unlock sound not playing when opening a door with the LockSmith item
  • Rolling barrels no longer deal damage during the start of a room/wave.
  • Rolling barrels are now destroyed when they roll against a player.
  • Secret room variant with chests no longer spawns them inside of the hallway when the door is on the north side.
  • Fixed some error/warning spam when destroying crates and barrels.

V0.89 - Big Tree!

After a holiday break, we are back at it again with some interesting changes.
This time we added some QoL changes and added some new features as well as the big highlight of todays update; Big Tree!

Changes include a makeover & practise area in the harbour area.
A special type of room to test your reflexes for some nice rewards.
Character specific traits to make them more unique.
And of course the in-game sales to get a couple of extra items!

V0.89 - Big Tree!


This week we finally added our second boss to the game, on the voodoo ship. Replacing our green Blackbeard placeholder, we now have a new boss that will test your dodging skills!
Dodge his bullet storm and poison clouds to get some hits in. Once you get him down enough, he'll call for help while going on a rampage! Get his flowers down before they get you down first. Good luck!

Other changes



  • Added a new gem pickup effect
  • Fixed the default item pickup particle system not showing up
  • Changed the broken bottle sprite a bit to it looks more like a bottle.
  • Fixed the 'freeze' effect lingering on for a bit too long, affecting new enemies
  • Increased the overall FPS & memory usage by reworking the sword hit system & item pickup.

V0.88

We are back from a short break and ready for action!
Some new features you you to play with this time.

Changes



  • Items in the shop & voodoo room can now be on sale, for 50% off!
  • The gauntlet bullet hell room can now give you a black market as a reward!
  • Added the black market, which gives you a bunch of buyable items from random pools
  • Fixed a bullet combo issue with pierce & explosion
  • Fixed some obscure issues with the room clear count & wave cleared not resetting properly
  • Added a "press [use] to continue" text to the story & gauntlet information papers

V0.87 - Gauntlet

We added a new type of room to the game; gauntlet bullet hell!
Try to dodge the bullet hell patterns for 1 min to get some nice rewards.
This patch also includes the first batch of character changes, so stay tuned for more!

Changes



  • Bullet hell room
  • Captain character is now the only one who gets the first room clear chest
  • Ivan has an increased chance to find bombs
  • Hunter has an increased chance to find ammo
  • Lifeless has a decreased chance to find health, increasing all other options
  • Bullets are now destroyed when they hit a dining table & gambling table

V0.86

We updated the HUB/Harbour/Port area to make it a little bit more interesting, and let the player test out the weapons for the chosen character.

Changes



  • Hub area now has platforms on the south to practise dodgerolling
  • You now have access to your gun in the hub area (unlimited bullets)
  • Hub area has 1 melee & 3 ranged 'dummy' targets
  • Dummy targets show the amount of damage you do
  • You can now fall into the water in the HUB area
  • Improved the "damage fly text" to support the new text components
  • Fixed some issues with the dust/footprints still appearing when rolling & falling

V0.85 - Story time!

This month was all about a new feature in the game; story pages!
While it's still in its early stages, it already gives you a good idea of what's going on in those treacherous seas.

We also cleaned up a lot of our older visual effects and skins that were still on the to-do list, as well as some interesting balance changes to quicken things up once again.

V0.85 - Demo & Balance



This week we changed up the demo a bit to better show players what the full game has to offer!
We also took another quick look at the generator now that we had a better feel for the quickening effects on the enemies.

Demo changes:



  • Demo game-over screen now shows an overlay with everything the full game has to offer
  • Demo locked NPC's now tell you they are locked
  • Updated Steam store demo text & art


Other changes



  • Reduced the amount of rooms per layer on each ship from 5 -> 4, lowering the maximum amount of normal battles per ship from 10 to 8
  • Increased maximum possible set-piece amount per room to make it a bit more interesting with less open spaces
  • Dining room on ship 2 & 3 no longer spawn both the dining table & gambling table, but one or the other ( challenge mode unaffected)
  • Secret room reveal now has a new particle effect
  • Updated Steam description & artwork

V0.84

For this version we updated our tweening system to a better & faster library.
With these conversions, we revamped all existing tweens and refactored & cleaned old code.

Changes



  • Glass eye no longer gives you a laser sight, but increases gun damage & even better accuracy
  • Our previous change of fewer enemies was a bit drastic, so we turned it back up a bit.
  • Added water dropping from the walls
  • Added active item use & fill effects
  • New walking dust particles
  • Music layers based on enemy count not always playing correctly
  • Walking dust particles no longer loop while dodgerolling
  • Small changes to every existing tween effect
  • Various small bug fixes

V0.83 - Story

Todays update will bring the main story into the game!
Find the hidden diary entries during your runs to uncover the mystery!


  • Story! Collect all the diary entries and find out what's going on. (first draft)
  • Updated the Library to Logbook, which now holds all of the previously found diary entries.


With this update are also a bunch of other smaller fixes & changes and 1 mayor blocker fix


  • The game no longer hangs when going to ships 2 and 3
  • Increased bomb range for player character from 5 to 6.5
  • Decreased enemy amount by a little bit
  • Fixed rich text not displaying properly at certain places
  • Main menu animation now holds back the "continue run" popup until finished
  • Fixed some floor pieces being overridden by wall segments
  • Removed the algae floor piece with the clean patch, as it was too repetitive
  • Updated the candle colours for ghost ship from dark blue to a more cyan colour
  • Some small tweaks to the animations/tween from last time (footprints / deckroll / teleport)
