A smaller update this week, as we've been busy on bigger tasks for the game


  • Weapons skins! Not every weapon is the same cutlass and pistol. They are still placeholder sprites, but it should give you a better sense of the weapon you are using
  • Added navigational arrows for unexplored rooms, so you no longer have to search for that single door
  • Added a new intro animation for entering a ship!
  • Fixed the game auto pausing in the main menu
  • Fixed rich presence throwing errors and not showing up in the friends list information
  • Fixed item flying pickups when going through a portal at the same time

Ivan the explosive joined the fray!

Ivan!

A new playable character that is unlocked by default.
Use his explosive powers to blast through all the rooms!
His item unlocks are explosive as well, so your other pirates can feel the same power!

New items!
- Locksmith (vault, passive, uncommon)
- You can blow up locked doors to remove the lock
- Kamikazi (boss, active, uncommon)
- Harm yourself, but deals massive damage to enemies near you
- IBS (boss, passive, uncommon)
- Killed enemies explode into bullets, killing other nearby enemies
- Shockwave (voodoo, active, uncommon)
- Destroy all bullets & sceneobjects nearby
- Can also be found in card form


Secret rooms
Increased the secret room variation pool, so you can get even better stuff if lucky!

Other noticeable changes:

  • Controller rumble support
  • Bigger miniboss pool
  • Character overlay UI for a quick overview of unlocks
  • Voodoo shop can spawn more items & enhanced visuals in the room
  • New lighting systems for ships 2 and 3
  • New NPC texts that tell a story

The Quickening!

The Quickening!
- Overall changes to make the game a bit quicker & more bullethell-like!
- On average:
- Enemy health reduced by ~0.5x
- Enemy firerate delay decreased by ~0.75x
- Enemy movespeed increased by ~1.3x
- Decreased boss health by ~0.8x
- Player base speed increased (10 -> 12)
- Player move ramp-up speed increased
- Increased bomb base damage (7 -> 15)
- Topaz speed increase changed (0.75 -> 0.25)
- Enemy amount per room increased by 1
- Normal enemy rarity decreased (more normals)

Other changes
New & Fixes
- New effects:
- Water splash effect when something falls into a hole
- Ship deck - wind & mist effect
- A small card use effect to indicate a correct use & remove
- Fixed the vignette effect for low-health
- Freed NPC's now teleport away
- New boost timers above the player to indicate time for timed boosts (for now just the cards)
- First time talk triggers for NPC's for story related information (text coming in later)
- Buffer enemy can now be found on both ship 2 & 3
- Reloading now automatically switches your weapon to the gun
- You can now slash flying bombs away, just like bullets can
- Redid all of the new hole colliders to make them a bit smaller
- Purple health now fills last
- Fixed sideways door bottom collider
- Armour hit no longer removes speed & damage from the player (oops...)
- Falling into a hole immediately after respawning from a hole fall will no longer leave you at scale 0
- HUB bot left part changed
- Demo overlay now correctly showing
- Tutorial popup button fixed
- Fixed HUB layering issue

New challenge!

- Cursed Chest NPC (ship 2 unlock)
- Add modifiers to your runs to earn more doubloons
- Every playable character has 6 modifiers to choose from

- Added 2 new upgrades to the upgrader NPC
- Increases doubloons payouts
- Players with an older save get doubloons back, but have to repurchase older upgrades

- New enemies
- Dragon (ship 3)
- Melee ghost (ship 3)

- New items
- Binge eater (cargo, Epic) -> increases damage for each food item you have
- Spike armour (vault, rare) -> dodgerolls deal damage to enemies

- 2nd ship boss now has a voodoo chest in the exit room
- Takes away 1 health, contains voodoo items

- Daily runs & hardcore runs increase doubloons payout
- Reduced base doubloons payouts
- Poison gas updated
- Can now be blown up when it touches fire
- Blows up by bombs
- No longer reactivates older gas, filling up the whole room fairly quickly
- Reduced health from Hunter character (4 -> 3)
- Added ship information when you first enter it
- Movement ramp up now added to the game and removed from the cheats window
- Dodgeroll to mouse now an option in the settings menu (and saved)
- Starting items no longer trigger the pickup text
- Deck music now starts playing when you enter the deck, instead of during the loading screen
- Fixed coop ammo not being removed when going back to single mode
- Updated animation software to newest (beta) version
- Fixed errors from dropdown UI items when used by mouse
- Fixed some texts

New challenge mode, boss changes & overall balance

- Boss changes:
- Boss now has a new room above it where the rewards spawn
- Boss no longer drops doubloons (see gameover screen below)
- Boss exit room includes: boss chest, coins, possible key, table to continue
- Boss rewards increased when you beat the boss flawlessly (more coins and chest has choice)

- New NPC (challenge mode)
- Unlocked by finding him in the boss exit room on ship 3
- Talk to him in the harbour to toggle challenge mode runs

- New challenge mode
- Try your hands on an even harder challenge! Beat every boss with every character for an achievement
- Includes 3 new achievements
- Progress can be found in the harbour, behind the portraits
- Changes include:

  • - Decreased item rarity spawns
  • - Less gem drops from wave clears
  • - Less money drops from wave clears
  • - Health drops have a chance to not spawn at all
  • - Increased enemies per room
  • - Increased enemy health
  • - No dining table


-Other
- Item spawn rate is now based on the rarity
- Cargo chest on ship 1 now has 3 gems to choice from instead of a cargo item
- New quest added to quest npc
- Quest npc now shows a questionmark when you completed your task
- NPC's no longer show they nearby text while talking
- Closed item chests now return their items to the pool after switching ships
- Fixed roach achievement name
- Fixed empty dialog boxes
- Fixed some shadow issues in the harbour
- Fixed the corner ground decoration stuff
- Tutorial door now also uses the new nearby system
- Tutorial door tells you to exit co-op mode when trying to enter in co-op
- Tutorial npc has a new sprite
- Minimap & telepad cheats now unlock all telepads again, even unvisited
