Liberte

Major Deckbuilder overhaul - The new patch is now live! 🔥

Revolutionists! 🔥

We've been all ears since Liberte was released. Your feedback has been our guiding light, and we've made some pretty big changes based on what you told us. Here are a couple of words on changes, improvements, and bug fixes. 🔥

New Deckbuilder

One of the most notable transformations is the complete redesign of the deckbuilder. It's now more intuitive and easily readable at a glance. We hope this design will encourage you to play around with your deck a bit more! Instead of multiple UI windows, everything - building your deck, crafting cards, and unlocking new blueprints - is now all in one place. Additionally, we added suggestions on what amount of a particular type of card is best placed in a deck so that it is effective and fun to play!

New Level Selection Screen

We've added a map feature that gives you all the information you need at a glance. Starting a run is simpler now - no need to vote, just pick a quest from the map. You'll also get extra details like the quest's objective, the faction it's for, and the curses you might encounter.

That's right! We've also changed how curses work. Instead of gathering them as you progress, you'll get new ones each time you start a new level. 🔥

Besides that, Patch 1.0.3 also includes:

⚔️ A chance to encounter a powerful Mini-Boss enemy at mid-level;
☠️ Bliss Curses change with each level in a run;
🔎 Ability to preview Bliss Curses before entering a level;
🤒 The final boss fight can now be played on higher difficulties!

Some of the bugs that we fixed:

🐛 multiple instances of holes in geometry causing players to get stuck;
🐛 multiple typos in conversations;
🐛 stutters in Victor's combat animation;
🐛 other minor bug fixes.

Join our discord, and remember to leave a review here on Steam if you haven't already! It really helps a lot!

Until next time!

Looking back and sharing some good memories

Dear Revolutionists!

Liberté has been out for a bit of a month now. It's an insane feeling to look back at years of work and see the game it's become. We published our backstory way back when, but since we get asked about the behind-the-scenes stories from Liberté's development, here are some more fun facts we didn't share in our previous posts. 😉

The most fun times were usually going for a whole weekend, renting a house or apartment, and just spending hours brainstorming. We would have the entire place "redesigned" with post-its where the whole timeline was supposed to emerge. And to get inspired, we played games - obviously. 😉 One huge influence was Diablo III, and the gameplay mechanics that were drawing players deeper into the storyline.

These long sessions were very fruitful, because they allowed us to mix ideas and explore how the characters could interact with each other. Some of the first drafts of the game's beginning said that the player was supposed to sneak into Paris and kill Prince Phillip, running side by side with Ana among the streets, and Lady Bliss' appearance was supposed to stop that from happening! In other versions of the story, the player wasn't supposed to be Lady Bliss' henchman at all - instead, the idea was to play four different characters and stick to just one faction in the entire story.

Truth be told, a lot of time - aside from actual development - went into building a believable world only inspired by real events. We've written down documents about the systems of beliefs in both The Congregation and The Tribe, and it was like building an entire religion from scratch. What begins as a free-solo type of only creative work becomes gradually more structured because these two religions became consistent and full of rituals, their own heroes, and stories. One day we might even release them - perhaps as comic books or art books? Who knows! (If you're up for that, let us know in the comments! 😉)

We put a lot of time and effort into pouring our love into Liberté. It would mean the world to us if you could leave a review if you haven't already. Reviews are helpful to both developers and other players in the Steam community. They can boost the game's visibility on the platform so that more people may have a chance to discover Liberté.

To leave a review:
1. Visit Liberté's store page on Steam.
2. Scroll down until you see the review box.
3. Write a review. Share your thoughts on the game - what you liked, what could be improved, and any memorable moments you experienced.

Thank you so much for your continuous support!

You can find us on Twitter and Discord. Feel free to tag us and share your best moments in Liberté!

Until next time,

Powerful cards during the runs, New Patch coming next week | Post Launch Support

Hello, everyone!

The first week following the debut of Liberté is behind us, and we gotta say that the support from our community overjoys us. Thanks for the reviews (the good and the bad ones, too!) Steam Reviews and Discussion Page. We've had some great feedback from many friends out there on YouTube, and we can't wait to hear/watch/see all the new takes on our precious indie gem. Here are examples that we loved:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N577gioTPKc&ab_channel=Haelian&ab_channel=Haelian

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8cMGcnhTRA&ab_channel=Splattercatgaming

Now, you're probably wondering what's next, huh?

The Superstatic team is working diligently to carry out the current development plan as we move forward, concentrating on bug fixes and resolving any issues that popped up since the launch. While the primary focus is on resolving graphic bugs and minor gameplay issues, we also look into the general feedback regarding overall game pacing and card mechanics. So, the upcoming patch will be live next week, but if you're willing to be a part of our QA team, join our Discord server, where you can find private-beta credentials and test new fixes with us starting this weekend. It's fun, we promise!

In addition to bug fixing, we are also working on new content and features to expand the world of Liberté further. More details are coming soon, so stay tuned for more information and another completed change log.

Buy powerful cards during the run

Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for the news.

Do you remember Flea, Tribe's secret agent and one of the playable characters? Now, you'll be able to meet her during the runs in the Flea's Market. Flea moves in with her stall!

As a dear ally to both Ori and Eli, Flea has established herself as one of the most "prominent" thieves in the city. Her mastery in the art of finding and moving valuables allowed her to build the market she runs, but things aren't easy for anyone in the city. Hence, she's back with her little shop.

With the new update, Flea will have powerful cards for sale (Their quality will be equal to Keepsakes, which are the strongest cards you craft as the game progresses). They will give you additional boost and variation to improve your deck during runs. A word of advice - make sure to keep some extra money in your pocket, because Flea's a tough negotiator.

We also turned your requests regarding UI into action. From now on, you will see the card instantly after interacting with the shop. At the end of the day, you want to know what you're buying, right?

Many thanks once again!

Throughout the whole development process, we always wanted to stay in touch with our community. Opting for Early Access was an opportunity to shape Liberté into a game that's fun to play & fun to create. Needless to say, all of the recommendations, tips, and comments were simply essential. Time and time again, you've proven to be a great community to work with.

Also, it's big that our game gets compared to the blockbusters such as Hades or V-Rising. When we started the project, we didn't even expect anyone to make such comparisons. It's incredibly flattering because those are two awesome games.

However, it's a huge responsibility too, which is not easy to carry when you have two people working currently on the development side - our studio is far smaller in scale, and on top of that - this is our first indie project. We hope to keep on keeping on (yes, we did play a bit of Death Stranding), so we're doing our best, with the limited work capacity at hand. So, what we're trying to say is that things might take longer to develop, and we ask for your patience and understanding, and support that carries us further. At the end of the day, Liberté means proof that even a tiny team like ours can make an indie rogue-lite that's fun to play!

Goodbye, Early Access! Welcome Liberte 1.0 🔥

Dearest Revolutionists!

As you know, Liberte will have a Full Launch in just three days, on May 23.
What's changed during Liberte's development process?

We've regularly polished the game for over a year since it entered the Early Access stage. Our team has been busy introducing tons of content improvements and, of course, bug fixes. As a result, we now have:
🔥 new bosses,
🔥 improved mechanics,
🔥 UX and UI tweaks,
🔥 better game pacing,
🔥 enhanced enemy and environment behavior,
🔥 a greater emphasis on intuitive deck-building based on player feedback.

During Early Access, decision-making and the story itself gained many improvements. We emphasized real decisions in roguelike runs, and going through all available paths will now allow you nearly 40 hours of gameplay.

We also redesigned deck-building, so you'll be able to prepare builds for various fighting styles and characters. Additionally, we introduced a new playable character, Flea, that combines two fighting styles and brings a spear into the game.

While casting voice actors, we focused on bringing the characters to life, giving them personality, making the Parisian world vibrant, and giving decisions more significance.

We also entrusted our soundtrack to a wonderful and talented composer, Filip Kazimierczak. The music was inspired by various sources, such as classic sci-fi movies like "Alien," as well as film scores by Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, Daniel Pemberton, Ben Salisbury, Geoff Barrow, and Michael Abels. You'll also hear the inspiration driven by revolutionary songs from the French Revolution era somewhere in the background.

As a result, we got an atmospheric and evocative soundtrack that perfectly complements the game's story and environment. It's genuinely fantastic, and we're happy to let you know that the digital version of the soundtrack will also be available for purchase on the day of Liberte's release 🎶

To sum it all up, a lot has changed during Liberte's Early Access - from gameplay and quality-of-life improvements, through endless bug fixing, to practically a new life in the form of expanded content, voiceovers, and a brand new soundtrack.

In the meantime, there's a series of videos showcasing the gameplay and mechanics of Liberte. We're releasing a new video every day until May 23! Here's the latest one, in case you've missed it:

She gives, and She takes

Hello there, revolutionists! 🔥

Today, we're thrilled to bring you closer to one of the most intriguing characters you'll have a chance to meet in Liberte: Lady Bliss.

Lady Bliss: An Otherworldy Beauty

Lady Bliss is a mysterious woman who knows when and where to arrive. 😉 Her presence in the game adds a unique twist to the gameplay, as she bestows both curses and blessings in the form of offerings upon the players.

Curses

As the game progresses, players will come across various curses bestowed on them by Lady Bliss. Curses can range from dealing less damage to enemies to creating deadly beams around all foes. While these curses may seem like a hindrance, they also add an element of strategy and unpredictability to the game, forcing players to adapt and think on their feet.

Offerings

Before players set off to explore Paris's beautiful and dangerous streets, Lady Bliss offers them a choice of one out of two random offerings. These offerings can grant various advantages, such as greater speed or additional armor at the start of the game. Players must carefully weigh their options and choose the offering that best suits their playstyle.

An Adventure in a Dangerous City

In Liberte, players navigate the war-torn streets of Paris, facing numerous challenges and enemies along the way. With the help of Lady Bliss's offerings, which boost players at the beginning of the game, and the ability to adapt to her curses, players will experience a thrilling and unique adventure every time they set their feet on the cobblestone of the troubled city.
