Crafting Cards

Revolutionists! 🔥

Welcome to the second part of the Dev Diary dedicated to Cards in Liberte. In the previous article, we explained how deckbuilding is integrated into the gameplay and what types of cards are available when building your deck and preparing for a fight. If you missed it, you can read it here 👇
https://steamcommunity.com/games/1590160/announcements/detail/3704816660873414634

This time we’d like to tell you more about crafting cards – how to get materials and expand your library to make more intricate decks and make your attempts even more satisfying. Let’s dive right into it, shall we? 😊

To craft a card, you’ll need Crafting Materials and Blueprints.

Crafting Materials

There are a couple of ways to gain Crafting Materials. You can get some from defeated enemies; find them as you explore the streets of Paris or while in the Endless Bliss. Additionally, you can obtain rare Materials from Bosses or earn them through a reward system when you get a certain amount of Influence Points within each Faction 😉

There is Red Ochre, Rose Petals, and Flawless Rubies, organized by rarity from the easiest to the hardest to lay your hands on.

Blueprints

Each time you win an encounter, you’ve got a chance to find a Blueprint of a new card you don’t own yet. You can also unlock some of the Blueprints through the rewards system when you reach certain Influence Levels within several Factions.

Similarly, you can unlock Carte Blanche, which will give you a random Blueprint of a card you don’t have from a set you choose.

With this info, we've completed the Card introduction 🎉

Cards and Deckbuilding

Revolutionists!

Liberte's Full Launch is coming closer and closer! We want to take this opportunity to highlight the game's most important features. It may serve as a reminder for some of you and a guide to the world of a chaos-ridden alternative Paris for all new players.

Liberte is a roguelite with deck-building mechanics that define your characters’ skills and can make each run an even more exciting adventure 😃

Each card has a mana cost written on it. Burning a card will earn you the mana indicated on the card. You'll need to pay the price shown on the card to play it.

In other words, you'll need to sacrifice some cards to play others. Choose wisely!

Prebuilt Decks

When you first start the game, you can choose one from three prebuilt decks – Melee, Ranged, and Rogue. They will help you get the hang of the game and decide which playstyle suits you best. With that said, we recommend playing around with different decks and trying out different styles – this can add an additional challenge to your run 😉

Card Types

There are 5 different types of cards accessible in your in-game menu in a hub when you first start the game:

Melee Skill ⚔️

Playing this card will use the first skill on the left of your hotbar. It will provide a stronger, more spectacular melee attack than the basic one.

Ranged Skill 🏹

These skill cards occupy the second slot from the left on the hotbar. Similarly to the melee skills above, these will be more powerful and have a broader range than the basic attack.

Support Skill 🛡️

Support skills will be visible on the third slot from the left on the hotbar. They can serve a variety of purposes, but as the name suggests, they will mainly aid your character and not deal damage.

Gadget 🧪

Playing a gadget card will use the round slot on the hotbar. They have a certain amount of charges. Once you use them up, you’ll be able to either refill them or exchange them for a different gadget 😊

Talent ✨

Their effects work passively in the background from the moment you play their card.

You may have noticed that we didn’t mention the fourth slot from the left available on the hotbar; This slot is reserved for Ultimate Skill Cards that you’ll unlock when you face (and win) a challenge inside Bliss’ Garden, found in the city during your journey.

Additionally, there are Action Cards that’ll immediately affect playing them and can be found during your exploration phase in Paris. So roll and smash all the barrels and vases you see to get the most unexpected and useful cards!

Crafting Cards

While in the hub, you’ll be able to craft cards in the Deckbuilder menu, using different resources that you’ll earn during the game. But you’ll find more on this in the next article 😉

Keepsakes

Keepsakes are special cards that’ll become available as you progress in the game. They will act passively in the background once you play them (the cost is 0!). Many of these unique cards will have huge advantages and disadvantages, so keep that in mind!

There are 124 cards you can unlock and later mix and match to build a perfect deck that’ll suit your playstyle the most, giving you the biggest chance to survive until the end 😈 Experiment and have fun!

Sneak peak into Liberté's Soundtrack

Revolutionists! 🔥

One of the key ingredients that make games unique is their soundtrack, would you agree?

That's why we've worked on an official Liberté soundtrack that would let our players immerse in the world of Bliss-affected Paris while giving each faction a unique flavor. To provide you with a bit of a sneak peek, let's take a look at the creative process behind the soundtrack and soak in the mysterious vibes of The Tribe 😉

Capturing the essence of The Tribe

The Tribe faction in Liberté is a cultural melting pot, and we wanted the music to reflect this diversity. As a faction pushed to the bottom of the societal hierarchy, Tribesmen nurtured a longing for the lost lands they used to call home. Naturally, we wanted to extract that essence – the nostalgia and yearning to stay true to one's own roots – and channel it into the soundtrack. At the same time, the cabal spirit of The Tribe was equally important, as it served as the element distinguishing Tribesmen from the rest of Paris.

After experimenting with various instruments, our composer Filip Kazimierczak ended up mixing the elan and pride of the Tribe with their rituals and religion. The main theme of the Tribe – entitled A Song Of The Elders – opens doors to a world of mysticism. You'll hear rhythmic drums, elements of electronic music, as well as inspirations drawn from the Middle East and African cultures (like the intriguing daf instrument rooted in the Persian culture). All of that serves one purpose – to set the stage for a toe-tapping good time throughout the game.

Building the Game's Ambiance

We want Liberté's soundtrack to be your trusty sidekick as you embark on your adventure, from various character encounters to pulse-pounding combat situations and even the spine-tingling atmosphere of Bliss. Since we're gamers too, we traced back our favorite scores and ended up listening to ambient mixes from Diablo 2, The Witcher series, but also sci-fi scores such as Returnal or The Last of Us.

One of the challenges was to strike a balance between Bliss and Paris, too. While each faction deserved its own musical language, we needed common ground. However, the Bliss – as an out-of-this-world creation – required a separate brainstorm and approach.

A Symphony of Inspirations

Delving deep into these various inspirations required an open mind – and a fair share of scores we drew from. We explored a wide range of sources, from sci-fi classics like "Alien" to the mesmerizing film scores composed by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Daniel Pemberton, Ben Salisbury & Geoff Barrow, or Michael Abels, as well as revolutionary songs composed during the French Revolution. This eclectic mix of influences has resulted in a soundtrack that is both atmospheric and evocative, perfectly complementing the game's narrative and setting 😀

We hope Liberté's soundtrack will be a joyous part of a fun and immersive gaming experience. By carefully crafting the music to reflect the unique characteristics of each faction and drawing inspiration from a colorful palette of sources, we've created a soundtrack that we simply love and listen to on a daily basis already. So, as you explore the world of Liberté, prepare for a rich and captivating auditory experience!

Until next time!

Official release of Liberté moved to May

Hey revolutionists!

We have an announcement to share - don’t worry, it’s nothing scary.

Although our team’s working 24/7 on polishing the whole Paris/Bliss experience, we clearly don’t have enough hours in a day to fit all of the ideas on time. We’ve had a long discussion, and since there are things we’d love to finish before the official release of Liberté, we decided to move the premiere date to the second half of May. We have a few good reasons to do that:

Partial Voice Acting

You’ve been quite vocal (see what we did there?) about the need of voice acting, and we couldn’t agree more. We’re now working with a bunch of talented actors to breathe new life into your favorite Parisians, non-Parisians, aliens and everyone else. Our goal is to focus on the dialogues you’ll hear the most to create a fully immersive experience. P.S. If you want the Superstatic devs to be the Easter Egg actors taking on some secret roles, let us know in the comments! 😜

Official Soundtrack

Speaking of immersion, we have secretly found a fantastic composer to work with us on an official score for Liberté. All factions will now have their own musical setting, and you’ll venture into Paris with an official score to pump you up in combat or set the right mood in character encounters. Liberté main theme will be a blast!

Gameplay Polishes

Our team has been attending many festivals and shows, because gaining feedback from as many sources as possible has always been our priority. That’s a source of tips on how to make the gameplay shine, and we’re busy bees as a result. We've also been working with an awesome QA Team from our partners at Anshar Publishing that peeked at every corner of Paris, looked under every fungi in the Bliss and gave us a solid portion of support 😀

That’s almost all. What’s next?

New Official Release Date

We simply owe you that one, don’t we? 😉 Stay tuned, we’ll be back with details soon.

Liberté After The Release

We'll share with you our plans for the future development of the game. New bosses? New cards? New talents? New playable characters? You’ll find out soon 😀

As always, we’re super thankful for your comments, discussion on Discord, hours already spent with Liberté and all the content you guys created because our game inspired you. That’s awesome ❤️

Au revoir!

Locations: Before and After

Revolutionists! 🔥

It's been a little over a year since Liberte entered Early Access! Time flies by, doesn't it? 😉

We thought it'd be an excellent moment to reflect on how the game has changed. From the very first concepts through raw screenshots to what we've got now. Let's embark on a journey through time together, shall we?

We had shared some of the concept art for characters before, so this time we'll focus on a couple of examples of locations' visuals.

Cafe de Flore

This must be the first calm location the player has a chance to see. You can walk in and enjoy the soothing atmosphere without worrying about being attacked. The huge stained glass window lets in a bit of light through the outside world, which lits up the scene with a grand piano and mixes nicely with moody lights coming from the bar.

But wait! The true crème de la crème awaits you upstairs. It's a small area you might have missed if you ran straight to your next goal. Be sure to check it out next time you visit Cafe de Flore 😉

Map Room

It's a room you'll visit on regular bases. Well, unless you've got some inhuman abilities and simply refuse to let your character die 😂 It's a room with some magical aura about it, despite being simple in its core. As you can see, the ornament has changed its position and gained interaction and, in turn, better visibility.

Many more things have changed since we started developing Liberte. Not only visually – lore and gameplay changed immensely with each update. There's one thing that didn't change, however – our enthusiasm toward developing the best experience possible 😊

What’s next? 😉

Top 5 Tips and Tricks on how to play Liberte Part 2

Revolutionists!

We didn't expect such a wonderful reception of the previous list! After brainstorming for some time we came up with yet another 5 things you should definitely do when playing Liberte. Enjoy! 😊

Do Daily Favors

Every day you have an additional way of earning Influence Points through Daily Favors. These points allow you to unlock new cards and ingredients needed for crafting, as well as playable characters with unique playstyles! Daily Favors reset each day and boost Influence Points - as little as 30 minutes of gameplay a day can raise your influence within each faction by a level.

Unlock Keepsakes

You can unlock special cards called "Keepsakes" in the Rewards section of the game. You’ll earn them in time as a token of appreciation for your accomplishments. Keepsakes will alter your character's abilities, e.g., you can get a 2x damage bonus after dodging or add unused mana to the attack damage. These are game-changers in later stages when the difficulty levels are getting unbearable 😉

Get Inside These Weird Trees

You'll encounter strange trees on your journey through Paris. You can choose to defeat people dancing around it or get inside and face the monstrosity within. If you choose the latter, you’ll get a chance to drop the most powerful cards in the game and you’ll earn a piece of an artifact. If you collect four pieces, you'll be able to craft an item that'll help you build a dream deck and unlock cards that didn't yet drop during your run.

Experiment

As you progress through the game, you'll unlock new skills and various characters with unique abilities. Don't stick to one playstyle! Step out of your comfort zone and try out different playstyles. When (if!) you get to the point when Curses don't scare you anymore, make an additional challenge for yourself and try to beat the game with a different build 😜

Pay Attention to the Environment

Liberte is combat-heavy, but there is more to the game than just fighting. Have a stroll around locations, and be on the lookout for shimmering spots hidden here and there. Vases, barrels, wooden carts, and even some stalls are easy to destroy and will give you silver pieces or other awards.

Talking to people on the street will also give you additional Influence Points and boost your statistics. Please remember we're talking about Liberte; Don't do it IRL 😉

What else would you add to the list? Let us know in the comments below!

🔥Also, consider leaving a review after playing the game - it helps a lot!🔥

See you next time,

Top 5 Tips and Tricks on how to play Liberte

Hello everyone!

As more and more of you are playing the game, we decided to list some tips that might be handy. Here are the top 5 things you should definitely do when playing Liberte:

Dodge

It might be obvious, but you're probably not using that enough.

Dodge works instantaneously after clicking the button. It cancels upcoming attacks, so smash that button whenever you see fire, enemy, etc., coming your way, and they won't be able to hurt you.

It also cancels animations. You can fight faster if you dodge at the right moment.

Use Skills

If you have skills, use them!

Basic attacks will recharge your skills, and you'll be able to use them again in no time, so don't worry about running out of them. They look more spectacular too! Why stab enemies when you can chop off their limbs?

Heal Between Fights

There are lots of things going on once the fight has begun, and you'll be pressing many buttons (if you don't feel this way, then you're probably not dodging enough 😜). You probably won't have time to heal. Don't panic!

Take your time in between the waves of enemies and find a doctor or use bandages then 😉

Build Your Deck

Skills will change the mechanics of the game. They will allow you to use different attacks, melee or ranged, or boost your armor and durability. Change them whenever you've got the chance to find out what works best for you! Talents, on the other hand, work passively and don't take up a slot, so it's great to always invest in those.

Plan Ahead

Curses will turn your run into a nightmare. Take some time in advance to check what the curse does and think of an approach to neutralize the effect. Curses make the game challenging and force you to adjust your gameplay, especially when they stack, so try to plan ahead. And if it doesn't work out... try a different strategy later! 😉

What else would you add to the list? Let us know in the comments below!
