(Dev News #138) Natives, Rare Resources, and Countermeasures

Hey, Feudalists!

This morning we have uploaded a small yet very needed patch. It contains a bunch of tweaks and fixes here and there, however, the main thing it tackles is the recently discovered client-side cheat mod hack. We have put our best talent on the effort to add new anti-cheat countermeasures to the game and we were able to include it in this week’s patch. You can find out about the full content of the patch in the patch notes, in case you missed them.

And now we are happy to reveal two more features that are coming in the 0.2.0 update.
Today we will share more info on new kinds of resources that will be in Life is Feudal 0.2.0 and might be a little tricky to find (and that’s not all that makes them special) - the Rare Resources. Find out more about them and their properties by looking at our dedicated 0.2.0 update page.

The second feature we want to tell you more about today are the long-awaited Natives. Who are they? Where have they come from and why are they here? All this you will unravel when you meet them, and in the meantime to shed a little light on what you might expect from them.
And that’s not all! We have also found a page from what we believe was some explorer's travel journal:

To Supreme Sidlung, Vallum Uttolu, from His Eye, Cleric Waktardagg, I present my report.

Day five. May the gods of High Sidlung Vallum Uttol keep us and our mission safe. We have found one of the damned places. The Idols there were chopped and burned. Pathetic geeks were found and destroyed. The place is consecrated. Three brothers were slightly injured.

Losses: two oxen, eight spears, up to seven dozens of arrows, and four elle-novices.
Brother Adjanlas has lost his sword in battle and left us to perform the Unity Ritual.
Do not wake Swiefni! May the night not come!

Irreplaceable losses: brother Ajanlas.

It was a bloody hell! Bloody feast in the palaces of insane Glum!
They attacked us suddenly and from all sides at once, as if the darkness of the night has suddenly come to life and flooded our camp.

The enemy attacked without making a sound, and only the crunch of dissected flesh and broken bones stood under the canopy of the forest. If we were a detachment of settlers, or even the armored infantry of the Gotlung ... Yes, even if we were northerners’ shield bearers, we would have been cut out in the blink of an eye!

But the Waktardagus brothers are not settlers.

The Keepers of the Day cannot be taken by surprise unless you are a god. And the attackers were not gods, of which the sword of our commander Brother Wepnadur was the first to testify, cutting as huge as a bear, disfavoring to his very bottom.
If it hadn’t been for this hit, I would have thought that we were fighting the creatures of the dreams of Svefni.

They can be defeated, now we know that for sure. The only question is how terrible the price will be, and whether there are enough people for us to complete our mission.

Client-Side Hack Countermeasures (0.14.7.1)

This patch contains a hefty amount of fixes and tweaks, but it is focused on countering one of the recent new client hacks that was discovered earlier this month. Now Sinner’s heads will be collected. ;)

Patch Notes (ver. 0.14.7.1):

New Features and Tweaks:

  • Added a disease marker to all stables, barns and coops to visualize the risk of losing your animals because of poor hygiene in these structures
  • Personal timer on movable objects now prevents the deletion of these objects when active
  • Primitive pickaxe will properly reduce the quality of resulting items gathered with it
  • You’ll get a notification now if a barter action was successful
  • Deconstruct and build abilities now have equal reach
  • Your inventory will be checked for free space before you actually start packing your horse
  • Tanning tub abilities, Fertilize and Pour Water abilities now check all prerequisites before the actual start of the ability progress bar
  • Added more info to the client logs about guild tags, weapons and kills for easier parsing of these logs by damage calculation sites
  • /metrics("irsp") (a command to observe server crossing debug info) and /metrics can be typed in the System chat window now
  • Removed Christmas decorations and items

Bug Fixes and Optimizations:

  • Implemented a countermeasure system to detect client hacking
  • Wooden logs can now be destroyed with damage
  • Warfare kits will no longer be consumed if the ability fails
  • Personal Claims can be properly managed even if the payment system services are down
  • Animals that are chosen to be slaughtered in a coop, barn or stable will be properly highlighted now
  • Fixed an inventory sorting issue that made drag‘n’drop items appear in the corner of the inventory window

(Dev News #136) Happy New Year

Hey, feudalists!

The holiday season has begun both in the real world and on Abella. We have received a lot of feedback from you about the holiday features, and some of you have even sent in beautiful screenshots! We couldn’t resist sharing these festive photos from Papai Krestiovi4 of Forrestville with all our community:

During the last week, we have also held two events, thanks to everyone that showed up on Telmun and Epleland! Here are some photos as well:

If you have taken photos during the Festival, please share with us and we will publish them on our social media or in devnews!

During the holidays we continue our hard work on polishing the current version and also working on 0.2.0 features. This week we have rolled out a tiny patch to address some issues. You can read the patch notes here.

We would also like to remind you once again (and especially the farmers) that the next festive snowfall is going to happen from December 30th to January 3rd (real world dates). Please keep that in mind. Don’t forget to get warm — put on festive hats and mittens and keep the festive spirit!

And now to more exciting news - we are now starting to reveal the Life is Feudal: MMO 0.2.0 features and share more details about them. Please stay tuned to our upcoming DevNews to learn more about all of these upcoming features and mechanics.

Let’s start off with the Counselors feature. It was designed to help new players and make their first steps in the game easier and reward the experienced players for sharing their knowledge. You can find out more about the details of this system on our 0.2.0 landing page.

Next week we are going to share more info about the Reworked Trade system. In the meantime, we are looking forward to your thoughts and suggestions about it. What would you like to see in the Reworked Trade system, what are your ideas? Hit us up in the comments or contact us on Discord.

See you next week!

(Dev News #135) Winter Festival Celebrations and Important News

With Yule and winter solstice arriving, we are excited to announce the Winter Festival on Abella!
We have a number of gifts and activities in store that will put a smile on even the most feudal face; festive trees, decorations, free gifts, and fun events await!

What's a holiday or a festival without a gift?
We have prepared something really fun for each one of you: simply use code WINTERFEST to get your hands on a pair of nice and warm mittens, as well as one of six fabulous festive hats to show off your holiday spirit! To redeem the code, open the Premium Shop, click the ‘Redeem’ tab and enter WINTERFEST as the code. Click ‘Redeem’, and the gift will be added to your inventory!

Please note that the code is valid until 31.01.2019 and that only one code per account can be activated.

And that’s not all - during the Winter Festival, you may now create your very own small decorative festive tree with this recipe - write it down, and don’t forget to craft one to brighten up your home.

During the festival, you may also notice more snow falling around (you might want to throw some snowballs at your enemies) as well as the White Standers appearing. Oh, and the bark boxes got a merry makeover, too!

If you want to take your festive spirit to a whole new level, check the special tab in the Premium Shop where you can find a magnificent festive tree premium decoration as well as six festive hat skins. Also, this year all the festive clothing will not disappear with the melted snow when the festival is over - they will stay with you, so if you feel so inclined to spread some joy all year round, say, with a red hat in the summer, it’s totally up to you - and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

There are a couple of special events coming to Abella during the festival: the weather forecast predicts two massive snow falls - on December 24th until December 26th, and another one on December 30th until January 2nd. Keep that in mind, farmers.

And of course we are happy to announce the Winter Festival events that will take place on Sunday, December 23rd at 7pm ET in the central city on Server 25 on Telmun, and on Epleland on December 26th also in the central city on server 25 here.

We have also received a number of requests to consider turning off JH and IB prime time during the holidays so that you can take some time off and spend time with your close ones. We have opened a poll concerning this matter, so please don’t forget to vote for the preferred option. The poll will last until December 23.

Today we released a quick fix that will resolve some of the combat patch issues as well as other small things. You can read the full patch notes here.

And now, to another special gift rewarding those who have reached this part of the blog! We are excited to unveil the key features of the upcoming LiF:MMO 0.2.0 Update, coming later this winter: LiF:MMO 0.2.0 Update

Have a great weekend and happy holidays from the team!

What time is it? It is Quickfix time! (0.14.2.0)

Yesterday we released a client side ninja patch where we fixed some issues and added some new features to the inventory management system. With this current patch, we address combat patch related issues that were reported by our players.

Combat, Cheats and Christmas (CCC Patch) (0.14.0.0)

We believe that this patch will be the last one with major functionality in it. It will be the last update this year and also the last before the Life is Feudal: MMO 0.2.0 release! Make sure to read our upcoming Devblog this Friday to learn more!

The first ‘C’ in our patch stands for the Combat Patch that we had long promised to implement. Well, here it is. Feel free to check it out, and create new combat metas!

The second ‘C’ is for the No Cheaters or Closed Console and scripts. We have fully closed access to the console on our client, encrypted our own client-side scripts and implemented the mechanism that prevents the 3rd party scripts from the usage. Effectively, it will disable all current mods, unallowed mods and simple hacks that were reported by our players before. We hope you’ll enjoy cheat-free gaming now!
Unfortunately, with such 3rd party scripts closure, we’ve effectively disabled all known good mods. It was inevitable, but we had reimplemented the main functionality of most of those mods - inventory management. Thus, we hope, that you will not feel handicapped without your favorite mods. But feel free to suggest any client-side functionality you miss to use, so we can implement it for you!

Last, but of course not least, is the final ‘C’, which stands for Christmas, New Year and other upcoming holidays! You can already start to notice some festive features in-game - but just wait until Friday, when we reveal even more holiday fun so you can celebrate the season with your guildmates!

New Features and Tweaks:

  • Game console is now completely closed from the user’s input. Though you can still use slash commands in system chat, like /stuck
  • 3rd party scripts can no longer be run on the client side anymore - including all types of client alteration: mods, cheat mods, hacks etc.
  • Implemented a couple of inventory sorting buttons for easier inventory management to compensate the removal of some popular mods
  • Time and weather information added on the minimap window
  • Teleport to a Rally point can work only during the JH
  • Inventory windows are force closed now when initiating a homecoming ability

Bug Fixes and Optimizations:

  • Fixed a bug where a guild which lost an IB could issue its own IB avoiding the 24hours penalty
  • Fixed an occasional client crash that appeared when traveling long distances across the world
  • Fixed some visual bug with a Heavy Chainmail Helm and Royal Chainmail Helm Skins

(Dev News #134) Tis the Season for Optimization

Hey, feudalists!

This week we focused on optimizing the game using the valuable performance data that we’ve gathered during our series of PvP stress-test events, thanks to all of you who participated! We discovered that our current performance bottleneck is in some of our network protocols and the amount of data we transmit during gameplay.

So in this week’s patch, we have implemented seven (7) different network protocol optimizations that should significantly boost the performance and smoothness of gameplay during massive open world PvP engagement. We had another stress test event yesterday in order to check if these optimizations were helpful or not, so now we are analyzing data received yesterday, in order to find what worked well, what we missed and what needs work. Thanks to all the participants!

We have also tweaked stamina use a bit in this patch. A lot of you have been asking about this, and we are happy to hear your feedback, so hit us up and let us know if you liked it. In case you missed our patch notes, you can check them out here.

Here are the poll results of the latest Avalon poll:

Thanks to everyone who voted, we will take the results into consideration!

The Winter holidays are right around the corner, and while you’re placing the finishing touches on the tree, wrestling with wrapping paper and guzzling mulled wine, we’re working super hard on the new features - not that we’re jealous or anything! Bobik and Amtech, our Lead Environmental and Level Artist (who’s also working with Alexander Maznev (missing from photo) on a super secret project!), are still smiling, though.

Happy weekend, everyone!

O - for Optimizations (0.13.35.1)

Thanks to you - our players and the series of recent open world PvP stress tests we’ve gathered a lot of valuable performance data. It has showed us that our current performance bottleneck is in some of our network protocols and the amount of data we transmit during gameplay.

Thus in the current patch, we have implemented seven(7) different network protocol optimizations that should significantly boost the performance and smoothness of gameplay during massive open world PvP engagements where the amount of players and horses in the same area can count into hundreds of players. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the upcoming stress test!

It is important to mention that we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you stay tuned for the next 2 weekly Devblog updates for some important hints and news about upcoming information and the future of LiF:MMO.

Patch Notes (ver. 0.13.35.1):

New Features and Tweaks:

  • Abilities that drain stamina will consume it instantly (and it will regen during the ability execution)
  • The highly detailed landscape setting is now turned off by default in all setting presets

Bug Fixes and Optimizations:

  • Seven(7) different network protocol related optimizations that should significantly lower amount of the network load both on the servers and clients increasing heavy load performance significantly
  • Fixed server crash related to the player’s position saving

(Dev News #133) Stressed Out!

Hey, Feudalists!

This week we released yet another patch full of fixes and tweaks. We’ve improved the way player history is now saved, which also means that /stuck command or relogging can no longer be used to spawn on the top of the buildings or walls. In reply to multiple requests, we tweaked the decorative objects so that they cannot be dismantled within 30 minutes after its creation for recovering the Decoration Kits. Along with that, we’ve implemented more fixes and tweaks - you can find the full information in the patch notes.

Also, next week we are planning to have another stress-test event on Avalon in order to check how the latest optimizations are performing, as well as to gather important server performance metrics to measure our progress and better allow us to focus in key areas that need attention.
We’ve taken all your feedback from the last events into consideration and tweaked the organization process as well as the mechanics itself for this event. This time we will also be offering benefits for the participants, including GF, Death Insurance, etc. This time the event will be held in treasure hunt battlefield challenge format. This means that there will be plenty of loot scattered over the big arena, as well as fortifications and shooting points to fight from. If you want to take part in the test, please, register here and join our stress test. We are hosting a dedicated discord for more detailed info, FAQ and prompt support during the event.

In the past couple of days, we’ve started receiving a lot of feedback about the new mods and aimbot usage. We would like to state that we are investigating the issue with 3d party programs that provide an unfair advantage. We do not encourage such activity and are pro-fair play.

We are really close to rolling out the command console closing fix that should remove the opportunity of using all known and most of the future possible 3rd party software.

We're also investigating the statistics of the recent Instanced Battles on Avalon, but so far we do not see any deviations in damage statistics. There don't seem to be any overpowered archers among the participants.

In the meantime, if you come across a player you believe is using such software, we strongly recommend that you contact support or dev team representatives with proof of this activity.

In other Avalon-related news - we would like to remind you that there is an active poll regarding IB prime time duration and schedule. Don’t forget to vote for the preferable option either in-game or via your dashboard on http://lifeisfeudal.com

Have a great weekend!
