Going Free To Play and other changes

First up, I took LBA in the wrong direction after the release. I took it in a direction that was not really suited to the game. In-fact I kind of had rose tinted glasses on while taking the game in that direction and spent far too much time doing that! This drew me in to a slump where I felt like I had done too much to go back but I do back pretty much everything up as I go so I have the builds from just after release and I am going back to PRE single player (see next paragraph) where I have implemented the best NEW features.


The game build as is right now has lots of AI wandering round Teriach Island, different cars, missions, a large open world and is purely single player based. This is not what I ever intended for LBA and so I have scrapped that version (i still have it of course but it will most likely never be released). It is pretty decent fun to play BUT again, not what LBA was ever meant to be so its pointless and has been a waist of time.

Moving forward!
What I am going to do is make the game free to play and make ingame cosmetics purchasable (this will include characters and clothing and some other stuff which will be announced soon enough). I did allot of work on the character creation system which was working pretty well. This allowed you to personalise your characters appearance and clothing.

I am also going to remove the current scoring system as it is pretty much pointless and use Steam Achievements and Steam scoring instead. This will show people what you have actually done in the game with Achievement icons instead of just boring numbers.

everything is still work in progress and as I am still working alone on the game, things take allot more time than if I had say 5 guys working with me.

I will hopefully be able to get a road map done soon to let people see what I am looking to get done and in what order.

LBA will probably never be finished. What I mean by this is that it will for ever be evolving in some way BUT it will always be playable as a multiplayer game.

Fixes from feedback!

Hi all. thanks for the feedback in the forum. I have been working on fixing bugs this week among other things.

The main bug fix is the loading of your player details. I have never had an issues with this but some people are so I have added a Refresh Button to the start menu. If your game is not loading, just hit the refresh button and it will reload from the version test screen.

I have also fixed a couple of glaring bugs that I never seen!

As I move forward with LBA, I have been building new features such as character editor, new vehicles mechanics and some missions. I am not even sure if people want these things so I really need peoples opinions on what direction they would like me to take.

Do you want cars?
Do you want open world missions?
Do you want bots in Multiplayer?
Do you really need a character editor?

I have implemented these features in the local builds and they all work pretty well, but as the player of the game do you really care about editing your guys clothing?

Feedback as always is appreciated and if enough people want stuff, I will build it.

Linx Battle Arena is now live.


The build is currently version 1.0.0 which I am sure I will be updating as I go over the next few days (and tonight)!

If you have any comments or find any bugs please let me know asap below here or post in the steam forum so I can work to getting the version I am working on released. New videos and features coming very soon.

Right now there are no cars to drive but I have 99% finished the new driving mechanics so this will be implemented in the coming days. Needs a wee nit more testing.

New features coming very soon are:

car racing (75% done)
character creator (WIP around 50% done - needs more clothes and female added)

I am still working alone on the project so any debug help would be appreciated - credits will be given to people with mentions in builds and graffiti around the new open world map.

Release 1.0 - Get LBA for $1

Linx Battle Arena - 1.0


So as you may have read in my previous announcement, I was going to ditch LBA but I have been getting emails from people and messages here on Steam all weekend asking me to NOT bin LBA.

I do not want to get rid of the game and it would seem that I have a silent community just waiting for something to happen (that I never knew about). I would like to thank everyone who has contacted me asking me to keep working on LBA. I would also like to thank the occasional troll for entertaining me by telling me that me and my team need to stop making this game! Me and my non existent team thank you as well :P

I am going to release LBA as 1.0 release on Monday 29 January (which to me is tomorrow). I will make the 1.0 release live at 5pm GMT for $1.

Moving Forward



The game I am playing locally and building is bigger than 1.0 in many ways. If all goes well, I will be adding to the live game in the next 2 months all of the features I have built which are working for me pretty well, but have minimal UI and are still a but clunky. The list of new Coming Soon features include:

  • missions
  • car racing games
  • more vehicles
  • a much larger open world map which combined all current districts/areas
  • customisation of characters (male and female)
  • much improved environmental effects
  • better mechanics
  • lots of NPCs which dress using the same clothes as our characters
  • more things to do in single player mode apart from shooting or getting gunned down by BOTS!

  • Steam Trading Cards


Linx Battle Arena is still work in progress but release 1.0 has been played by me and my testers ALLOT so this version is great for playing in a group with mates although you can get a good feel for the game in single player training mode as well!

I am working to make a game that I personally like to play and this is what I have achieved so far. when I release the game tomorrow there will be bugs I dont know about, there will be crazy stuff going on that I never fore-scene but once I get more people in to the game and you all start telling me "SEEDY WTF DUDE - I just tried to do this and the guys leg fell off and walked away its self!" I will get a quicker and much better idea of how you are all playing it and how I am going to fix these issues.

Help me test new toys


As I am building this game alone and have very few testers that can help regularly, I am always on the lookout for more people to try the game out in my closed test world. If you would like to help me try out new stuff like new cars, new guns, new gear, new maps and lots of other new new new! then please hit me up in the forum here on steam. Being a tester will get you the first look and feel for the new stuff I make and add to the game.

LBA - End of the road..

Due to lack of sales, I am not going to be continuing with the production of Linx Battle Arena.

I will be removing the game from steam as soon as I can. I would thank the community for its support with LBA but as I have had less than 15 sales in 4 months, there is no community to speak of.

NEW PERSISTENT LOBBIES



I have been working allot on lobbies and how people will join and leave games with friends and with the public. While testing LBA with my testers we had to constantly jump out of the game and back to the main menu where another player would then set up the game bla de bla de bla.. You get the point!

Now with persistent lobbies, you can jump out of the game and right back in to the public or private lobby. This keeps you and your friends together across rounds and also allows you to meet new people and play with them more often. I will be adding the in game chat for each game to the specific lobby in the next week or so. This will allow you to jump in to a lobby and talk to people who are in the current game plus you will be able to see the chat that is going on in the specific instance of the game.

Play against the Sentinels in single player training mode and get used to how guns and vehicles work. Gun Vendors and Street Arms are both active in this mode so get to the vendor with your cash or take your chances with random guns from Street Arms.

All of these features are in the current builds of Linx in Single and Multiplayer modes.

More maps will be added in the coming days to Training Mode.

Quick Ninja Patch

Now that Linx is in the public domain, I have put in a quick ninja patch to fix a bug I never expected..

Its fixed :)

Basic Testing is over - Time for Early Access!



Now that the majority of testing is over and LINX is running better than I expected by this stage, I am releasing the Early Access Build at 1pm on the 4th of October (Tomorrow).

I would like to thank all the testers for persevering with my shouting STOP STOP! when things go wrong and "Im just going to stick in a quick patch so you need to stop and restart steam"..

Once early access is out the way and I can see what happens when more people are actually in game, I will be added new features and content pretty quickly. I have a new lobby system planned and also new vehicles coming very soon. Plus modular guns and giving people the ability to make their own maps. I will also be implementing a system to allow people to update their guys appearance. This will move Linx closer to full release which I am thinking should be around March next year.

Anyway onwards and upwards!
