New Arena and Less than a week to Early Access

With less than a week to Early Access, myself and my group of testers have been weekding out bugs pretty much every second night. We play, I write bugs down, I fix for the next game!

New Gun Vendors and Modular Guns



New Vendors - how they work
My game testers have been telling me that they would prefer to have a little safety when purchasing guns from the vendors so I have completely rebuilt the gun vendors. When you are in the gun vendor now, you are safe for a limited period of time (not decided yet how long - still testing!). You will be protected while inside the vendor but a timer will be counting down to force you out of the vendor. If you are still inside the vendor when the timer hits zero, your health will slowly drop (not decided on punishment factor yet) which will force you out in to the battle area.

The gun vendors will let you purchase a selection of weapons using the cash you have collected from out in the battle areas. There are also health machines and reload terminals. The reload terminals will let you reload your current weapon at a fair price.

Health vending machines can be used at any time. Taking new health will take cash from you.

There are also health and reload vendors in the battle areas so you do not always have to return to the main Gun Vendors.

New Gun Sets - Getting Modular
I have redesigned all of the guns (got rid of the old models) and made them semi modular. I am working on a modular gun system that will allow you to have a primary gun reciever that you can then add attachments to to upgrade any part of the gun. You will be able to add:


    <*> a range of front ends (sniper, assault, projectiles)
    <*> a range of stocks for balance and recoil reduction
    <*> a range of scopes for target aquasition
    <*> a range or power cells for increased ammo

    This is not an exhaustive list. I will be looking to the community to suggest gun elements as I move forward with Linx.

    New Features - Timed games, Kill Em All, Random Guns!

    Been really busy this week getting new features ready for early access. After doing extensive testing with my group of testers, we have decided to add a timed rounds feature and random gun selection from Ammo Stations. There are now 2 types of ammo stations in Linx. 1 which allows for the selection of a specific type of weapon and one which gives you a random weapon.

    Timed Rounds
    The tester group have asked me to add a feature that allows people to make there own game where they can select either to have a limited amount of lives per game or have unlimited lives with a timed round. I have now completed and implemented this feature (tested and working). This is really going to enhance the game play as the timed rounds will allow all players to play to the end where as the limited lives game will allow people to spectate the remaining players or leave the game and find another lobby to join very quickly.

    Random or paid guns
    Another feature we have been discussing that I have now implemented is the selection of guns and how to get them. Guns were only available when you had enough coins to buy from gun vendors (coins picked up in game). I have now implemented a game mode that allows the lobby owner to select weather they want guns as random selection for free from vendors, or for guns to still be a purchasable item depending on how much coins you have.

    All tested and working as expected. Really shakes the game up.

    Also I was at a gaming convention this weekend and was talking to one of the original designers of GTA who I showed Linx to. He really liked the game and was surprised that I had built this whole thing my self! Very encouraging. I have had allot of great feedback from fellow game designers and from people who have played Linx recently so thanks to everyone for the feedback.

    Getting Ready For Early Access

    Linx Battle Arena will is coming close to Early Access.

    Recent Patch contains:

    2 new arenas
    Repairs to the custom lobby system
    Repairs to the net code
    Tests for vehicles
    Fixes to how the camera acts when touching walls (ongoing)
    New spectator camera


    BLURB:
    The game is being tested now very often and I have ironed out allot of the major bugs in the past 4 weeks. I have also added 2 new arenas to the game which we are currently testing. I am also considering putting back in to the game some vehicles. I had removed these a few months ago as I did not think they were fitting for the current game types but as I have now added a residential setting to the game it may be a good idea to add vehicles like quad bikes and small cars.
