1.0.22 Patch Notes - Jingle Shells for everyone!

Hello everyone!

Our holiday event is now over, but we’ve decided to keep the Jingle Shells item (which was contained in the hidden gift box) permanently in the game! We appreciate the feedback that has been shared about limited-time events like this, and we’ll be sure to keep all of that in mind for future holiday events.

We’ve also got a few small bug fixes in this patch, so check out the notes below for more details.

Jingle Shells!

  • The festive loddle toy that was introduced in December is now a permanent craftable item!
  • The recipe for this toy is unlocked alongside the recipes for the Kelp Chew and the Loddle Buddy. If you already had these two recipes unlocked, you should now see a Jingle Shells recipe when you visit the Crafting Station.
  • If you haven’t yet unlocked the recipes for the Kelp Chew and the Loddle Buddy, you can do so by petting a loddle for the first time.

Changes:

  • The “Who Needs Oxygen?” achievement now only requires you to run out of oxygen once instead of ten times. To anyone who already completed the achievement: We admire your dedication, and we’re sorry for how tedious it was!
  • The fifth inventory hotbar slot can now be highlighted by pressing 5 on the keyboard.
  • The delay before quick depositing starts (triggered by holding out an item near a Recycle Bot) has been reduced.
  • Settings configured via the Options menu (except for custom keybinds) will no longer be stored in the Steam Cloud, allowing for different settings configurations on different devices (e.g. Steam Deck vs. desktop PC).

Fixes:

  • Fixed an issue that caused objectives to not be tracked properly after switching away from the Objectives tab.
  • Fixed an issue with ceiling lights in GUPPI Campus shining through walls.
  • Fixed an issue with a Star Kelp tree outside of Tangle Bay not correctly saving and loading.
  • Fixed an issue with Recycle Bots enabling the collection of partially nibbled fruit.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the wrong item to be removed from your inventory when tossing an entire item stack using the mouse.
  • Mac - Fixed an issue that was hiding higher resolution options after a lower resolution option was selected.

Gift of GUPPI event extended throughout January

Happy New Year, everyone!

We've decided to extend our holiday event to last throughout the rest of this month. This means you'll have a few more weeks to find the hidden gift box and to play around with the item it contains!

The gift box and the holiday item will be in the game until February 1st at 10am US Central Time. After that, you won't be able to find the gift box anywhere and the holiday item will no longer be in your inventory (if you collected it).

We've read feedback from some of you about the potential downsides of limited-time content like this, so we will be keeping all of your comments in mind as we plan any future holiday events. If you don't get a chance to find the holiday item this time around, don't worry! We're thinking about adding a permanent mechanic that has a similar effect in a future update.

Thank you all for making 2023 such a wonderful launch year for us. Here's to a great 2024!

1.0.2 Patch Notes - The “Gift of GUPPI” Update!

Hey everyone! We’ve been absolutely thrilled to see the positive response that Loddlenaut has received since its release last month, and we’ve spent the past few weeks working on a festive little update for all of you! Lots of quality-of-life changes and bug fixes in this one, plus a special limited-time gift that is hidden somewhere on GUP-14! Check out the full patch notes below for more details:

A Gift from GUPPI?

  • A mysterious gift box has appeared in the waters of GUP-14! Who left it there? What does it contain?! You’ll need to explore the eastern parts of the ocean to find this yule-tide treasure…
  • This gift box (and the item it contains) will only be available from December 18th to January 4th, so be sure to find it while you can!

Changes

  • Added an extra column of slots to the inventory, increasing the number of inventory slots from 16 to 20.
  • Added a 60-minute period of “biome protection” that is triggered whenever a biome is 100% cleaned. During this period, no goop or litter will respawn in that biome.
  • When the final biome is 100% cleaned, there is a “global protection” period that starts and prevents goop from respawning in all biomes. The duration of this protection period has been extended from 20 minutes to 60 minutes. It now also prevents litter from respawning during this period.
  • Loddles with the cleaning ability can now clear the goop off of nearby goopy loddles. The same goes for Purifier Bombs and Water Purifier stations.
  • Added tutorial messages for using the Scrap Vac and the Puddle Scrubber.
  • Added a controls prompt that displays whenever a structure is highlighted in the hotbar.
  • The Scrap Vac is now made available to order at the Shipping Station after entering Tangle Bay for the first time. The previous trigger for this unlock (entering a cloud of microplastics) is still active.
  • Shortened the delay before auto-deposit kicks in when holding a piece of litter in front of a Recycle Bot and increased the auto-deposit drop rate.
  • Changed color of goop particles below Puddle Scrubber to more closely match the color of the goop puddles.
  • Increased the text size of Options menu dropdown lists, Shipping Station flavor text, inventory item labels, and glyphs for LB / RB and LT / RT.
  • Improved visibility of “100% clean” text in the World Map.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that caused dropped items to ignore collision with terrain.
  • Fixed an issue with Siren Form loddles having increased ability range and a shortened ability activation interval.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the player and spaceship map icons to have slightly inaccurate positions, which was making it difficult to clear the top-right map segment.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the screen to stay dark when opening the World Map immediately after fast traveling.
  • Fixed an issue with Light Beacons disabling their lights when the player got too close to them.
  • Fixed an issue with the Pause button detecting input while the Equipment Menu was open. Pressing the Pause button while in the Equipment Menu will now close the Equipment Menu.
  • Fixed an issue with the Inventory and Scanner buttons detecting input during the ending cutscene.
  • Fixed an issue with the "Feed a loddle" objective getting completed before it has been unlocked.
  • Fixed an issue with new objectives not getting properly saved if they were unlocked immediately after a fast travel, which would occur when fast traveling out of a biome that was just 100% cleaned for the first time.
  • Adjusted the targeting animation to result in fewer instances of the arm bending behind the player’s back when targeting an item immediately after boosting.
  • Mac - Fixed an issue with an Escape character being added to loddle names when renaming loddles via keyboard input.

Happy holidays!

Hello everyone!

We’ve got a small update for all of you! This patch should fix many of the day 1 bugs and address some common points of feedback. More improvements are in the works, but for now, check out the list below to see what we’ve changed and fixed!

Balance Changes:

  • Reduced global goop respawn chance by 35%.
  • Reduced global litter respawn chance by 60%.
  • Litter and goop will now only respawn inside of biomes.
  • Increased boost speed multiplier by 10%.
  • Increased the duration of the default and upgraded boost.
  • Reduced the boost meter recharge delay.
  • Increased boost meter regeneration speed.
  • Increased default Scrap Vac capacity from 10,000 to 15,000 microplastics.
  • Increased upgraded Scrap Vac capacity from 15,000 to 30,000 microplastics.
  • Increased Scrap Vac deposit speed.
  • Increased brightness of all glowing effects on the Scrap Vac to make the capacity meter more noticeable.
  • Loddles will now seek out fruit growing from plants when they’re hungry. Previously, this food-seeking behavior only triggered once they became starving.

  • Fixed an issue that allowed the Storage, Fast Travel, Shipping, and Crafting Menus to be opened while in structure placement mode.
  • Fixed an issue that caused following loddles to not remove themselves from the “following player” list when they were released into the open ocean, which was eventually resulting in no new loddles being able to follow you.
  • Fixed an issue with the Equipment Menu being opened on top of the World Map menu if the two buttons were pressed on the same frame.
  • Added additional targeting logic to detect when an item has somehow become lodged inside of a wall or other collider. Those items will now be targetable and collectable.
  • Fixed an issue with favorite fruits not giving loddles an extra boost of happiness.

It's World Cleanup Day and together with Developer Moon Lagoon we're excited to reveal a November 16, 2023 launch date for Loddlenaut, the cozy pollution-cleaning adventure awash with creature-raising and survival systems.

Loddlenaut started out as a NYU Game Center thesis project in 2019 and has been in full development since May 2020.

We're recruiting Loddlenauts to save the ocean planet GUP-14 by playing as an interstellar custodian sent to a polluted ocean planet. While cleaning up the mess, players will need to recycle trash to build and upgrade powerful purification tools.
