you may have already seen the introduction of Ghostina...Aghoulera. HEH.
Ghostina acts as your mentor, since you’re newly…deceased. She’ll teach you how to be a matchmaker and is your introduction to the afterlife!
I LOVE GHOSTINA! She's so sassy. I'm super excited to share more of her. Every time I read her dialogue, she cracks me up. And then I'm giggling to myself at my desk while I work...good thing there's no one around me to witness it 😅
Things have been super busy on our end, both for Love, Ghostie and our personal lives. But, I'm happy to say that we've been making huge progress in the past several months and while I want to blurt out everything we're working on, I have to be patient 🙈 unfortunately, these things take time, but we're working REALLY hard towards getting a demo out! Stay tuned for more!

Meet Calathea 🪴 and Noir 🐑
If you follow me on social media, I’ve been a bit quiet on updates, but trust me, we’re hard at work! Lots of new art and currently re-working a lot of the menus and UI. We also took a MUCH needed vacation, but I’ll be resuming updates soon:
Now, onto the character introductions for this month - Calathea and Noir!
Calathea
Calathea is a…calathea. I know it’s kinda weird to name her after what she is, but not everyone knows about plants and we figured that Calathea is a pretty name anyway! (I really appreciate those of you who have commented on social media posts and recognize that she’s a calathea!)
Calathea loves taking care of the plants in her room - she loves being able to nurture them and watch them grow. She takes good care of them, as well as herself!
She’s never been in a relationship before, but doesn’t really feel the need to be in one. However, her mother thinks otherwise…
Noir
Noir is literally and figuratively the black sheep. And goth. I mean…just look at her room. You probably get the vibe.
She left her hometown and seeks something different than what’s typically expected of a sheep. She has never quite fit into the norms of her hometown and due to that, she prefers to stand out rather than conform. However, she can sometimes take it TOO far…
That’s it for today! Make sure to wishlist Love, Ghostie if you haven’t yet! It helps us out a ton!
Meet Mina 🐱 and Gerard 🦒
First of all, I want to say I’m so excited by all the progress that we’ve been making the past few months. Things are really coming together and I’m so excited to share more with you! If you want more frequent updates, make sure to follow on social media (I recently showed off concept art of a new character 👀)
Now onto the first resident introductions - Mina and Gerard! I picked these two, well…because they were the first couple concept for Love, Ghostie!
Mina
Mina is a smol cat - notorious for her short temper. She’s often been treated as a child, because of how small she is, so she feels the need to go out of her way to do things on her own. She always has a stool ready for those hard-to-reach spots! She loves cute things and (as you can probably tell) the color pink!
(She totally isn’t looking at Ghostie…right? 😅)
Gerard
Gerard is an emo giraffe who is still getting over his last heartbreak. He’s into music and he often…sings what’s on his mind. Fun fact about his character concept: I picked a giraffe because one of my best friends has a bunch of cute giraffe plushies (and gave me one too!) so I *needed* to have a giraffe character just for her! His room also has emo punk music references - can you name them?

Fire Emblem x Animal Crossing?
I find it funny when I tell people I was inspired by Fire Emblem for Love, Ghostie. The general reaction I get is “huh?” but let me explain.
Fire Emblem is a tactical JRPG in a fantasy setting, so what does that have to do with matchmaking and romance? My first Fire Emblem game was Three Houses and I started playing it for the tactical combat system, but I found myself falling in love with the characters and their support talks. If you haven’t played any of the Fire Emblem games before, support talks are conversations between two characters where you get to learn more about each character. You'll see the struggles they go through and watch them grow over time. If two characters reach a high enough support level, they can end up together. I love the Fire Emblem community because there is so much discussion, fan art, etc. around people’s favorite “ships.” It really got me thinking though - why aren’t there more “shipping” or matchmaking games?
The other big inspiration comes from Animal Crossing, which you can probably tell just by looking at the residents:
But it’s a bit more than just the character designs. In Animal Crossing, you can give gifts to your villagers and each villager has a personality type, hobbies, styles, favorite colors, etc. In Love, Ghostie, you can give gifts to residents as well, but the gifts will say they’re from another resident! Items have tags associated with them and you will have to discover which tags residents love! You’ll learn more about residents through their rooms, their diary entries, and their relationship talks with other residents.
If you’re a fan of Fire Emblem, let me know what your favorite ship is! If you’re a fan of Animal Crossing, who’s your favorite villager?
