Star Drifters recap #2 🚀

Hello everyone! 👋

The year 2022 is now a melody of the past.
We would like to thank all of you guys for supporting us since day one! 🙏

Without further ado - let’s check out what happened in our camp during the second half of ‘22. Let’s go! 🏃‍♂️

⚒️ First Dwarf (...and some gaming events here and there! 🎮)

In case you missed it - First Dwarf is our upcoming Action RPG set in the world of Driftland. That’s why you can read about it on Driftland: The Magic Revival Steam card.

You’ll be able to pet a good boi in the game. Mhm. That’s right! 🐕

Now, let’s talk about the asymmetrical co-op 🐉 that we’re implementing in First Dwarf.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 In co-op, players will be able to take control over the mech or one of its pilots: Tru or Ragna. Each of them has its own, separate skills to develop and upgrade. All characters have their strengths and weaknesses so it’s important to choose the characters wisely when preparing to complete certain tasks.

🧑‍ In a single-player game, the player can switch between characters, completing tasks with the one with better skills in a given field. Tru, Ragna, and the Mech will have different skill trees. Tru will be a better Mecha pilot, Ragna can e.g. fly, and the Mech can be treated as a kind of armored vehicle, so without a pilot it will not work.

It’s important to say that implementing the asymmetrical co-op would not be possible without the Game Prototype Design Competition 2022 in which we were awarded! 🏆

The competition mentioned above helped us create some new mechanics for First Dwarf. Those mechanics evolved into a full-fledged, asymmetrical co-op mode of the game, which we implemented in its build! Once again, thank you to the co-organizers of the competition: Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland, Centrum GovTech Poland, and CRPK, as well as Copernicus Game Jam 2022 - during which the diplomas 📜 were handed over and everyone who supported us along the way.

We showed our upcoming action RPG at many gaming 🎮 events, both digital and held in “real” places. Just to name a few:
- PAX West;
- Poznań Games Arena (PGA);
- Indie Cade;
- DreamHack Beyond Indie Showcase;
- MIX Next 2022;
- Dev.Play;
- #PitchYaGame.

It’s time to focus on 3️⃣ of them.

🚏 First stop - PAX West.

Lots of you came to our booth to check out an early build of our game. Thank you for that! See you next year! 🤜🤛

Your reactions surpassed our expectations, and the feedback provided will certainly influence the further development of the game, already at this stage. It was 4 days full of interesting conversations, laughter and a unique atmosphere created by countless players, cosplayers, journalists, or industry representatives.🤝

🚏 Second stop - Poznań Games Arena (PGA).

In Poznań, we were showing First Dwarf, Scorchlands, Brewpub Simulator, and Lumencraft. PGA was such a blast! We felt your enjoyment brought to your faces by our upcoming games. Just look at Kuba, one of the members of our team - his smile does not lie 😊

🚏 The last stop - Dev.Play.

It’s a yearly celebration of indie games and their developers. Game creators from all over the world come to Bucharest to present their titles and experiences. The event ended with an award gala. First Dwarf received 3 awards: Best Game of the Show, Best Visuals, and Most Popular Game. 🏆 Thank y’all! 🙏

To wrap up the First Dwarf chapter of this recap we want to write about the key role of our IGN - Exclusive Announcement Trailer posted on IGN’s YouTube channel was viewed more than 285k times. There are also more than 5.4k thumbs up 👍 under the video! 📺

🐦 Scorchlands

Who won’t fall in love with birdlike Giwis, running around through the hexes? The game’s a wholesome and adorable city builder.

Play the demo version - is available for free here, on Steam!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1090100/Scorchlands/

At this point, we can say that developers from Ringlab ⚗️ are aiming for publishing more Steam News about in-game mechanics. When we’re writing these words, three of them are available as we speak: How the protagonist Giwi hatched, How to build your colony, and Gameplay Insight #1: Summoning the Nexus.

Stay tuned ! More of them will be published during January and February of 2023.

Also, the game received a warm welcome during #TurnBasedFest 2022! 😎

🕷️ Lumencraft

The full release of this unique mix of a top-down shooter with base building and roguelike mechanisms is just around the corner! Nonetheless, we’re not spoiling the release date at the moment. That’s not the only great news - something big is coming to the game. We bet you weren’t expecting this. Jump on the hype train, but stay calm. For now, let’s go down. Together. ⏬

The developers from 2Dynamic Games are constantly tweaking and upgrading the game’s build. You can help them by completing the survey they made - we’ll be very grateful for the feedback! It’s called Discord 🎧 survey, because the game’s community was the first one to answer the questions mentioned in it.

👉 Link to Lumencraft survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSckMJ-2HMumj5rPd_i2Up0bxT3CRyQvZzWpmKmvBQTfKDTLNg/viewform

One of the most important moments during the Early Access of Lumencraft was taking a different approach to the game's build. The experimental update published a few months ago left the beta stage. It's now living its new life - the developers called it Giga Update.

Lumencraft is reshaping every once in a while - two bigger updates and one smaller update were released since the release of Giga Update. There’s a lot of fresh content in the game - you should play it now, especially if you spent some time with Lumencraft a few months ago. It truly is worth revisiting! 🔁

🍻 Brewpub Simulator

There was a first, official playtest of the game - we’re glad how many of you decided to check out what it’s like to run a virtual pub and brew some virtual ale! A playable build of the game was presented to European audiences for the first time during PGA 2022. Thanks for playing it, we know what works and what needs some tweaking here and there! 🍺

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1755180/Brewpub_Simulator/

🏢 Danger Scavenger

Our skyscraper roguelite shooter is out now on Epic Games Store! 🎉

Just a reminder - Danger Scavenger is available on PC, PS4, XONE, Nintendo Switch, Atari VCS, and XSX. It’s also a Steam Deck verified game - give it a try on one of the handhelds, and you’ll fall in love with this fast-paced gunslinger action!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1169740/Danger_Scavenger/

This is not the last word we said speaking about publishing our games’ catalog on Epic Games Store - more titles will follow soon. At this point, you can wishlist First Dwarf ⚒️ and Scorchlands 🐦 on this platform!

That’s all for today.
Great things are here, but also great things are yet to come.
2023 will be ours!

Don’t forget to support IndieDev! 🕹️

Much love,
Star Drifters 🚀

Help the devs = complete the survey 📰

Scouts! 🖖

This time we need YOUR help. 🙏

Lumencraft will (sooner or later) leave Early Access. We need to prepare ourselves for the full release of it, so we’re here to ask you a few questions (13, to be specific - that’s not a lot!) about your taste in video games. 🎮

We need to know how much you enjoy Lumencraft, what’s your approach to our game and what are your favorite genres of video games. We’re also wondering about the pricing-related stuff. 💸

Here’s the link to the survey 👉

LUMENCRAFT SURVEY

It will take you a few minutes to complete it. Building and upgrading a machine gun tower is more time-consuming!

You can also access the survey via SM posts on Lumencraft’s Facebook and Twitter. Star Drifters also retweeted the Tweet 🚀, the publishers of our game.

You can write a little from the bottom of your heart in the last two questions. We’ll be grateful for any feedback you guys can provide us.

Thank you so much for everything. You guys are fantastic! Keep up the good work - let’s meet and talk on Lumencraft’s Discord server.

Winter update - beware Ice Caves Biome

Scouts! 🖖

Wipe your boots before entering the base! There’s a lot of snow on them…❄️

Do you have your winter cap and gloves? 🧤
Good, you're gonna need them. Please tell us - what do you know about Ice Caves Biome?

With the new Winter Update we’re introducing the Winter Event to Lumencraft!

Random maps now generate with Ice Caves biome - the place where the ground below the surface is permanently frozen.

What’s more, the Desert Excavation adventure map is replaced with Tundra Excavation.
Play the map - it’s still a deadly trap and it does not matter if it’s covered by sand or snow.

Why are you building the snowman? ☃️
Well, you're right - I think that everyone needs some time off, especially when you're working in a “Swarm-unfriendly” environment.

We do not stop 🚅 - the next update is here!

Scouts! 🖖

Last time we reshaped Lumencraft’s gameplay by turning the experimental update into the mighty Giga Update that ended up as a really important part of the game’s Early Access build.

Now it’s time for something different, but we’re sure that you’ll "feel" the changes instantly - a few of them refer to the way of defending your base.

1️⃣ First stop: turrets!

Machine Gun Turrets get a two times damage upgrade and an extra anti-air 2x damage upgrade. It means that these ones will be even more deadly than before. Just see how quicker they deal with the swarm in the GIF below.

Sniper Turrets get critical change and fire rate upgrades. If you complained about them, you probably won’t do that again.

Yes, we also changed the Bomb Turrets - cluster granade are providing two bombs after the explosion, but he maximum is 4 bombs exploding at once.

Watch out! Explosions now deal 50% less damage to flying enemies, which means that Machine Gun and Flamethrower 🔥 are still great for you to pick up.

2️⃣ Second stop: Walls!

There’s a new upgrade of the Walls available - it will slow down flying enemies. It truly is a gamechanger - as you know, every second counts when they start to penetrate the base.

3️⃣ Third stop: co-op!

Dead co-op players now only drop items when you fail to revive them in time. Does it mean that playing in co-op will be easier? It depends on the situation you’re dealing with.

🛑 The last stop: everything else.

Giga Early Access Update 🦾- Experimental

Scouts! Welcome aboard once again…

BREAKING NEWS: we invite you to check out our most experimental update of Lumencraft so far.

This update is for the beta version available on the development branch.

This build of the game is highly experimental - even more than usual. We have already spent over a week testing the package, but literally anything might break. Please proceed with caution. We strongly recommend you to back up your save files before moving onto the experimental branch.

How to join the experimental branch:

  1. go to your Steam Library
  2. right-click on Lumencraft
  3. select 'Properties,’ then 'Betas,’ and choose Beta Branch

Download the update, play the game and let us know if you encounter any issues. We also have a channel on our Discord: https://discord.gg/p4pzffEfmA #feedback - we highly encourage you to join in and share your feedback.

Let’s continue with a proper explanation.

Sometimes, the process of shaping the game gets out of hand. That’s the case here. Who doesn’t like to rediscover the given possibilities? It’s like rekindling the fire within the team, it's all about doing it repeatedly. Until it’s done correctly. Until we’re proud of the results. Taking this road is exciting and risky, but who does not take risks doesn’t drink champagne. 🥂

We truly love surprising Lumencraft’s community. This time we also surprised ourselves.
First of all, we added randomly generated maps. 🌑

Yes, now you can re-live all the nightmares of Lumencraft in a way you probably never expected before. Explore, drill, improvise, adapt, take care of your base and your own back. You never know what lies ahead.

Secondly, new translations are available now - we added French 🇫🇷, Spanish 🇪🇸 and Russian 🇷🇺 languages to the game. It’s good to know that our game is now even more accessible to audiences all over the world.

Look out! Take cover! Beware Lumenal Dischager - the brand new weapon is available in the Map Editor! Use it wisely.

What’s more, have fun unlocking 80 new achievements on Steam! There’s plenty of reasons to spend long, cold nights with Lumencraft.

Read the whole changelog to see what’s new!

Steam Workshop Maps Shootout #4 🔫

Scouts!

Long time no see, huh?

We were doing things along the way. We still did not recover well after this years’ Poznań Game Arena! Thank you for visiting the Star Drifters’ booth and all the chit-chats we did on-site. We’re glad you’re into Lumencraft! 🌑

The third issue of Maps Shootout was submitted on July 1st. Back then, there were 119 fully playable maps on Steam Workshop. A few months later you made 10 more.

When we’re writing these words, there are 129 maps in total!

Thank you for posting your maps and info about them in #share-your-map channel on our Discord 🎧 server. We selected three great maps for you - two of them are story-focused and the third one is just pure mayhem happening on screen! 💥🏃‍♂️💥

Without further delay…
Let the Maps Shootout 4 begin!

Just a reminder - the order does not matter - we’re just sharing maps that we find especially interesting 🧐.

Map name: Abberration
Author: SolarXD
Direct link: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2795957177

To quote SolarXD: “Explore an old Terran Conglomerate Geology Research Center and collapsed cave system. Recent scans show odd readings on the local wildlife No Waves. Mine and explore at your own pace.”

Our thoughts: such a fun map. Aberration’s showing the different face of Lumencraft - there’s no emphasis on the time aspect, so it’s easier to plan a mining trip or to venture deeper into the tunnels. Always take a weapon with you, but the spear or a pistol probably won’t do the work - you’ll need at least a machine gun and some grenades. Nonetheless, you’ll have to build some turrets to deal with bigger monsters located in many parts of the map.

Map name: lost miner 2.0
Author: Knur
Direct link: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2798795109&searchtext=lost+miner
To quote Knur: “You are lost and you must return to your camp with a reactor.”

Our thoughts: this map gets better and better every minute. Learn to find your way - sometimes you’ll find a wide road, and sometimes you’ve got to drill through whatever you’ll find in front of you. Visit the abandoned places and fight the spiders. Be prepared - no one knows what’s happening just around the corner.

Author: UncannyHalcyon
Direct link: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2795397277&searchtext=high+score+
To quote UncannyHalcyon: “Hold the Line! 5x21 = 105 Waves. Already Fully Upgraded. Scoring: Enemy x5, Lumen Shard x10.

Our thoughts: such a rodeo! Grab your rocket launcher and machine gun and see GIGANTIC groups of enemies approaching your well-protected base (there are like dozens of turrets guarding it). High Score Hunt is just endless fun and a great way to relax after a really tough day.

Don’t forget that every map can be featured in the Maps Shootout.
We’re still waiting for your fantastic ideas. 👋.
