Developing the Weeping Meadows

The Weeping Meadows

This area will probably look familiar to you if you've watched our latest trailers. But it wasn't always like this!

It started as this concept sketch, which ended up being very different to the in-game level.

We blocked out the level very roughly to start with as we worked on the level design.

Then, as we were still figuring it out, we used some marketplace assets to populate the level & start to bring it together.

Once we had a decent idea of the level design, we started creating our own unique assets to replace the placeholders we were using.

Then we had another art pass over the level to work on anything we felt needed improving, & a few different lighting passes to determine what we wanted the atmosphere to look like.

How Sorrow's Canyon Developed Over Time

The Hydraulic Wall

For those of you that took part in our recent demo or that have watched our trailers this location will be familiar. But it didn't always look like this...

Way back when we first started development on Luna Abyss, way back in 2019, this area started out as just a concept sketch.

Then as we started building out the levels it got a very basic starting structure.

That we built on.

And built on.

Until we get to the version that you see today. Personally, I think our art team did a fantastic job. What do you think?

Location Showcase: The Drift Mines

The deep, dark Drift Mines sit on the very edge of the known Abyss.

Once an active mine that gathered the crystallised form of Drift, the mine has become home to the most undesirable and dangerous of the Adrift.

Twins Wardens remain motionless on their mine rails, and strange halls house shrines for long forgotten gods.

Play-test our Demo!

Greetings Scouts! We are holding a closed beta for Luna Abyss’ upcoming Steam Fest demo. This will be your chance to play through a small 20-30 minute portion of the first level of the game & give feedback before release. Access will be limited to a select group of players so head on over to our Discord for info on joining the test!

Join our Discord!

This will be part of a hardware test for Luna Abyss so bugs are to be expected, and we would appreciate you reporting them! Just fill out the short form you’ll find on Discord to gain access to the Closed Beta. We will also provide a feedback survey for all beta testers after you have played the demo. Please fill it out and let us know your thoughts on your experience with Luna Abyss. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the game & hope to see you there. Thank you for your continued support of our development efforts!

Greetings, scouts!

I've been warning you that the Abyss was a dangerous place, but some of you still don't believe me... Let's take a quick look at some more of our enemies!

The Death Candle

Once affectionately referred to as 'Floaties', a passing flock was considered a portent of good fortune. These days they're more likely to explode in your face.

The Celebrant

Celebrants retain an uncommon awareness, which makes them especially dangerous. Use every tool in your arsenal - including stopping to hide when things get intense.

The Eye of Virtue

They are known to appear in packs, perhaps compensating for their lack of mobility. But don't take them lightly: their precision across long distances is second to none.

Until next time, stay safe out there...

Luna Abyss at GDC - Round Up

Now that the excitement of GDC is over & the press articles about Luna Abyss have started coming out we wanted to drop an update with some of the cool things we got to take part in!

During GDC

The MIX

We were lucky enough to take part in The MIX's online show on Friday the 17th of March where we shared a world building showcase.

We also got to take part in their in-person showcase on Monday the 20th March where media & content creators could come & play the game!

Kinda Funny Games Showcase

We were very excited to take part in our first live-stream showcasing Luna Abyss with the team at Kinda Funny. They were wonderful & we had such a great time doing it. You can watch it here!

GDC Expo

Alongside The MIX on the Monday, this was our first time ever having a demo that people could come by & play Luna Abyss. We definitely have to give a massive shout-out to Epic Games & Unreal Engine for having us at their booth! Showcasing at the Expo was incredible.

We also got to see our trailer on the big screen at the booth & watch the talks being held by the Unreal team about UE5 features, tech, & of course the Unreal Editor for Fortnite!

After GDC

These are just some of the articles shared about Luna Abyss since GDC.

IGN Showcase

IGN had a hands-on preview of Luna Abyss in the run up to GDC & this is what they had to say. You can read the full article here!
