Memories of Mars

February 2020 Update

Hello Martians,

As already teased, we are working on something bigger behind the scenes. As some of you already found out via gaming news websites, we have been working on console ports of Memories of Mars in the past months. The PC version is of course still being worked on and we plan on releasing a new major patch in a couple of weeks. What it will contain, as well as more information about the console ports will be shared in a bigger announcement next week. Please stay tuned!

What we can share today is some information about the big re-balancing that will be part of the next patch:

- We have re-designed the current enemy variations, as well as added new tiers to them.
- Enemy variations will have more unique behaviour and a clear distribution in the world to fit more with the expected difficulty level of each region.
- Enemy tiers are now fully colour-coded:
- Tutorial/Earliest game: White
- Early game: Yellow
- Mid Game: Green and Purple
- Late game: Red and Blue
- Hardcore late game: Red/Yellow with warning labels.
- All player and enemy weapon damage has been re-balanced. Tier 3 weapons now do definitely more damage than Tier 2 and Tier 1.
- You will be able to gain more rare resources, like Silicon, from some enemies.
- We also re-balanced parts of the crafting chain and many loot tables.

The patch will of course contain many more changes, bug fixes and tweaks. More about that in the upcoming announcement!

Christmas Patch goes live!

Hello Martians,

We just pushed a patch live that contains a lot of nice changes. We worked quite hard to push out a final big patch before our Christmas break and this is it. Please be sure to carefully read the full changelog below, there are some big changes you should be aware of.

Changelog for Season 8 Patch 9

Changes and big additions:
- We added a progress bar to the loading screens and optimized general spawning behaviour
- From now on the behaviour for buildings and PVP areas is as follows: Every building part that touches or is inside a PVP area will be treated as destructible. Any building part outside will be safe.
- We added a lot of logs and debug output in this release to find some of the trickier bugs out there. We might ask some of you to run the game with special arguments to enable the outputs.
- Increased durability of armor pieces
- First small batch of rebalance of loot distribution. You will find some deuterium being lootable without devices in the Ice Area and you will find power cores in more locations than just the Juggernaut.
- The amount of scrapped resources now depend on the durability of the scrapped items
- We added rank-based device access to the game. You can now lock/secure devices via the interaction wheel and only people with permission to open secured devices will be able to use them. You can specify this permission per rank.
- We added AI loot protection to the game as well. When an AI dies, only the player who dealt the most damage to it (and their alliance) will be able to loot the AI remains for the first 3 minutes. Afterwards it's available to everyone like before. This should greatly reduce the chances of "loot thieves" at the Juggernaut for example.
- It's winter holiday season in the Ice Area again! Merry Christmas!

Fixes:
- Made sure all weapons and tools have their correct vfx
- Fixed some server and client crashes
- Fixed issues resulting from button mashing during interactions like vaulting
- Improved vaulting behaviour
- Yet another protocol fix
- Fix for building devices being not interactable
- Fix for Exosuit Achievement not unlocking
- Fix for the EULA not being scrollable with gamepads and controllers
- Fix for AI not despawning when losing their target
- Fix for AI following the player indefinitely
- Fix for the Memory Capsule protocol (it will not be unlocked the moment you press the "Launch" button)
- Fixes for AI spawners
- Fix for the tutorial cutscene running in an endless loop
- Optimized ingame world map
- General Localization update
- Fixed button prompts in multiple parts of the UI
- Fixed not being able to upgrade a base
- Fixed some bugs related to achievement stat tracking
- Fixes for the Juggernaut walking out of the crater (it can reach the top of the crater but not much further - still buildings in shooting range can be damaged by it, so keep it in mind!)

This is most likely the last patch this year. Some of us (me (Das_Emu) included) will be on our holidays starting next week and not be back until next year. Some of us are still around next week, but we will most likely only push out a quick hotfix for potential new critical issues.

Please be aware that community mangement feedback will also be greatly reduced over the holidays. We try to keep an eye on the servers and answer the occasional question here and there, but we will not be able to give the full-on support we give usually.

For next early year we plan on continueing our quest for proper fixes for some of the outstanding issues, like the private servers, the inventory issues and potentially some more rebalancing.

We wish you a very nice holiday (whichever you may celebrate) and a happy new year and will see you all next year.

Patch 8 goes live!

Hello Martians,

we got another patch for you! This time we have some long-coming AI fixes, as well as slight quality improvements. We should also have a final fix for the protocol issues. Finally we added back the server ping in the server browser.

Here is the full list of changes:

Changelog for Season 8 Patch 8
- Fixed Server crash
- First batch of fixes for the inventory duplication/disappearance bugs. We have a server-side fix, but clients might still show wrong data. A work-around is a relog, as the server has the correct data at least.
- Fixed more stuttering issues with the boss, drone and general AI
- Fixed client crash
- Fixed bug where buildings were sometimes not interactable because the rank wasn't correctly initialized
- Fixed FlopsEvent notifications for enter, leaving and claiming being queued up way too often
- Wieldables will now prioritize empty slots with ghosts over the currently selected slot when they are auto equipped.
- Fixed bug where armor items would disappear when being swapped with items from a container.
- Added colored tool icons for easier differentiation
- Fix an issue where the protocol categories are set as completed but protocols and objectives are not. Warning: This might cause already completed, but bugged protocols to be set to claimed without you actually claiming the protocol first. If this happens, let us know and we will send the rewards manually!
- Fixed bug where you are not able to build the foundation at the end of the tutorial.
- Ping of servers is back
- Fixed AIs not being able to set initial movement mode.
- Fixed vaulting AIs never continue moving.
- Fixed AIs vaulting through intact windows.
- Red damage indicators for AI enemies are working now.
- Sort by type now works better.

This is one of the last few patches (one or two remaining) before we will go into a short Christmas break. We want to have a stable version ready for the holidays so you guys can play without much interference and we are getting closer and closer. We try to fit in as many bugs and issues as we can, but some more difficult ones might have to wait until early next year.

Thank you and have a nice day,
The Dev Team

Patch 6 is live!

Hello Martians!

We have another patch for you! It fixes a bunch of issues and improves the quality of some features. Most notably it fixes the "stuck protocol" issue that many of you have been experiencing. If you still have problems with protocol completion after this patch, please let us know!

Changelog for Season 8 Patch 6
- Improved particle effects of memory capsule
- visual improvements for caves, rocks, clouds, tool displays and smoke grenade
- multiple crash fixes
- fixed not being able to throw grenades sometimes
- Disabled broken body parts system for now (the system was half-broken and caused errors across the board. we will evaluate if we want it back at a later stage.)
- Fixed weapon crafting objective in "Applied Science" protocol
- First fix for scope zoom (full fix will come in the next patch)
- Another fix for protocols not completing
- Deployables (like the mobile printer) can now be placed correctly again
- News Links in Main Menu work as expected now
- Fixed timer for Explosive Charge
- Increased bandwidth the game can use to reduce network lag

Known issues:
- some blueprints can't be unlocked at the moment. (fix ready for next patch)
- There might still be rare cases of spawning in a dead state when joining the server. (fix hopefully also ready for next patch)
- Some items disappear or get randomly damaged while in the inventory. (still trying to reproduce the issue. If you have any hints on when this happens, please let us know!)

Thank you,
The Dev Team

Patch 5 Live

Hello Martians!

We just pushed a patch live that should fix the most critical issues remaining from the last days.

The full changelog of the patch is as follows:
- Fixed Claim Gifts button not appearing in the menu. This should help people to get their welcome package as well!
- Fixed a bunch of crashes
- Deuterium harvester must now be built inside the PVP area to work. (it's a safe-guard against exploiting, as it shouldn't have been possible to build outside before)
- Added new blueprints to loot
- Adjusted amount of FLOPs dropped from elite enemies, like the Mantis Sapper
- Soft Disconnect improvements. This should help with the "spawning dead" issue that many of you were experiencing. Please let us know if you still encounter this issue!
- Improved quality of spawn ui map.
- Fixed explosive objective of "Reverse Engineering" protocol
- Players in PVP areas will now only see allied players names.
- Fix for infinite punching
- Performance optimizations for protocols
- The default customization for buildings is now saved
- Fixed a bug with customization of buildings via paint brush
- Fixed an issue where protocols were marked as incomplete even though all objectives were completed after loading
- Fixed landscape glitches
- Fixed a issue with building destruction timers getting loaded wrong from savegames, resulting in deletion of buildings after a server restart
- Fixed Juggernaut being able to be spawned more than once
- Fixes for the building tab actions
- Improved position of no building zones around the "magnesium cave"
- Fixed calculation of repair time

Known issues right now that we are working on for the next patch:
- Items are disappearing or getting damage while in the inventory

Of course it doesn't mean we will not fix other issues, but the above is an issue we are working on that simply didn't make the cut for this patch, but should be fixed in the next one.

Slight warning: It might be that you will see buildings disappearing one last time after this patch is up for the first server start. The reason for this is that the data in our database is already affected. We try to do a cleanup on loading them, but it can happen that this cleanup is not possible if the data is too corrupted. If you interacted with your building since the last server restart you should be fine.

We are discussing ways to compensate all players who lost buildings and important items due to this bug.

Thank you,
The Dev Team

Memories of Mars Patch OUT NOW

Hello Martians,

We have yet another patch (the biggest this season so far) for you. We made sure to include as many critical fixes as possible while also implementing a lot of your feedback. Some of the changes are not 100% confirmed so we rely on your feedback to see if more work is needed.

Please read the patch notes carefully as there are some important game-changers in there.
- Fix for crashes on consuming items
- More No-Building zones in critical areas
- Fixes on the landscape
- Fix for Mercenary and Enforcer Headlights
- Slight AI loot rebalancing (a bigger one is WIP)
- Fix for protocols not being able to be completed
- Fix for settings not being saved
- Fix for crash on getting hit
- Fix for random crash
- Fix for flop event and alliance messages appearing randomly
- Fix for crash in inventory
- Slight server performance improvements
- Fix for item stacking issues
- Fix for refinery and similar devices being accessible to everyone
- Unlocked the "newsletter signup dlc" from back in the day for everyone as the dlc can't be used via steam anymore. We will further improve upon this in the future and properly implement the weapon into the skill tree. For now it's available for everyone from the beginning.
- Buffed silicon spawners in desert regions. The desert regions have now the highest amount of silicon in the game and are the main source of looting it.
- Potential fix for the "spawn dead" bug and the loss of nutrition and oxygen while being logged off. This might not fully fix it, so we are dependent on your feedback!
- Increased the PVP Zone in the ice area to fully encompass all areas with deuterium.
- Polished the map with proper spawn area images
- Some fixes for level boundary death zones
- People who die in PVP zones can now have their backpacks looted! Outside of PVP areas the behaviour is the same as before.
- Some fixes for AI spawners to hopefully decrease or fix the issue of "invincible AI" - if this is still as big an issue as before the patch, please let us know so we can take another look!

Thank you and especially thanks for the kind words about the new season :)

Upcoming Season 8 Features

Hi Martians,

On this second post about the upcoming Season 8 featuring a new Mars there is a very relevant point: to make sure the implementation of all the content is smooth we will require a little extra time, therefore we are postponing the change of season to the 19th of November.

We thank you in advance for your patience and would like to take this opportunity to share some additional information on the upgrades that you’ll experience on Season 8.

As previously mentioned, the collapse of Mars remains a mystery and a potential threat to anyone left behind, but you will be able to warn Earth and call for rescue…

While exploring Mars you’ll find and collect intel fragments and hints that will allow to lift the veil and learn the truth…

However it will not be a walk in the park… And while you will hunt for story fragments and environmental evidences, you could end up in “interesting” and unknown places…

… Like this secret lab bunker that should have some surprises waiting for you
· Toxic room for bold players
· Hall of illusion for maze amateurs

· And some fancy but deadly laser-based defensive gears…

… Among other things.
At the end of the day, you should finally be able to craft a Memory Capsule, the only way to escape the Martian dangers by saving and sending away your Memories of Mars.

See you soon on New-Mars!

The Dev Team

Welcome to New-Mars!

Hi Martians,

As promised, we are here again with more details about the new adventures and latest additions to come!

The JUGGERNAUT has finally decided to appear and unveil all its potential.

If you previously thought this new threat would be a deadly challenge…

… Well, you were definitely right!

The Juggernaut is not only gigantic but also deadly: various weapon ranges, several kinds of attacks, heavily armoured… This AI is waiting for new challengers! So, feel free to pay him a visit at your own risks.

Big Dangers bring Big Rewards: beating the Juggernaut will unlock the possibility to craft the Vanguard Armor!

This valuable equipment will give you a tremendous advantage over other players thanks to the incredible new abilities as follows:

• Gloves will trigger a super melee attack
• Legs will make you run faster than anybody else
• Boots will allow you to perform double jump
• And the cherry on top, the Chest part will unlock new Jetpack moves…

This should significantly help in the ice area since this is now the land for tough PvP fights.

This corner of Mars will also be the centre of attention because of its precious Deuterium resources. And since you will have to build a specific structure to collect it, you will need to be well prepared.

Deuterium is one of the main ingredients needed to craft the Memory Capsule and send your warning from Mars…
But that’s a different story and will be the topic of the next communication.

See you soon on New-Mars!
