MEMORIES OF MARS - Season 5 is live + Season 5 Patch 1 Info

Dear Martians,

Season 5 is live today!

As stated in our previous announcement, you will notice that from Season 5 onward, we plan to keep tweaking balance in many areas, resources, enemy AI (behavior as well as stats) weapon performance, FLOP events and more.

Moving on, here are the patch notes of Season 5:

ADDITIONS
The follow has been newly added to the game.

• New localization text where required.

FIXES
The following has been fixed.

• Weapon visibility bugs
• Reloading whilst interacting with something/someone.
• Players becoming stuck when typing in chat and being revived.
• Individualizer and patterns unlocking.
• Elevator fixes
o Jumping on the top of them.
o Falling through them.
o Performance in general.
• Meteor effects spawning in random places.
• Dust devil effects changing location in the world randomly.
• Infinite load screens.
• General bug, crash and improvements.

CHANGES
The following has been adjusted or changed.

• Unreal Engine update to 4.20.
• Large optimization for the following:
o Levels will now load faster and asset placement is optimized.
o Many assets have been optimized or completely reworked.
o Biodomes are being reworked for better performance and easier usability for level designers. Biodomes along with other builds will be replaced in this patch and future patches.
o Effects are being entirely reworked to be more performant.
o Entire animation system rework. IKs are now more stable and performant. They no longer require SSE4.2 to work.
o The game now runs on SSE2 as the lowest instruction set to be supported.
o Shader optimizations.
o The game now uses .pak files to store the game’s data. The means patches will be larger but the game will ultimately be smaller on your disk and load much faster.
• In-game voice chat is now more reliable.
• Meteors will now spawn in more locations on the map and not as often outside of playable areas.
o This is still WIP and might produce some visual anomalies.
• Weapon sounds received an upgrade.

Known issues
These are issues found in testing that we are aware of and will be fixed in subsequent patches.

• Player made buildings sometimes don’t load correctly on clients.
o We are aware of the issue and working to fix it. It’s a very complicated problem and might not be ready for the next patch. It has our highest priority.
o Effects might be missing for tools, weapons, environmental that were previously there.
o See the changes section. All effects are being overhauled/upgraded.
o Some NPC buildings may be a little off due to the upgrade. (Biodome).
• And last but not least, on PvE servers, once a player will go into a PvP area, he will get flagged PvP until he dies or he rejoins the server. Good news is we have a fix for this, so we'll push an hotfix asap. Bad news is we cannot push the hotfix immediately. So please don't go to PvP area until further notice (but if you want spicy challenges out this area) and sorry again for the inconvenience.

Memories of Mars – Season 5: Engine Update, Balancing Works, GUI, Season Length and More.

Dear Martians,

2019 is in full swing and development for Memories of Mars is no different. Whilst we have a small global user base in general, the players we do have are putting up some impressive in-game hours on their Steam accounts. With this dedication comes strong community suggestions, for all aspects of the game. If you’ve been with us from the start you will know that we listen to your feedback carefully and implement as much as we reasonably can in a timely manner. This is something that will always be the case and is a part of our development process we pride ourselves on.

Going forward we will be slightly changing our internal content and development plans for the early half of 2019. First and foremost, we are working diligently on improving our performance across the board. When considering content that might be in development, we don’t want to keep adding it to areas that need certain amount of love and polish first.
We have just finished a large engine update that will improve both performance and game animations. With this new update you will no longer have the need for SSE4.2 instruction set support.

You will notice Season 5’s patch notes provide a lot more detail in this regard and you will already see a significant difference with this patch. We plan to keep tweaking balance in many areas, resources, enemy AI (behavior as well as stats) weapon performance, FLOP events and more.

A significant change for 2019 will be season length.To better fall in-line with our development and above balancing changes, we will increase the season length to 12 week seasons. This will start from season 5 on-wards. To put it into perspective, Season 5 will start on Jan 15th and end on April the 9th.

Apart from the under the hood changes, we are currently working on a major GUI update. All the way from the HUD, Skill tree, Work orders and more will receive a face lift during the earlier half of this year.

During the season we will continue adding new patterns for players that can be customized plus weapons and building sprays that you can obtain. Nothing specific yet as to what they might look like and as always, we are happy to take on feedback as to what people would like to see.

So, once again, the end of a season also means a new beginning. Make sure you upload you Flops to the Memory Banks and you store your valued items on the Emergency Capsules.

MEMORIES OF MARS - Season 4 - Patch 2 Info (Xmas patch!)

Good morning Martians!

Xmas will soon be upon us and along our usual bug fixing and game tweaking, we've also prepared some events that will trigger during Xmas. When? Well, we're not going to spoil the surprise for you but if you want a tip you can look at the ice area in the East during the festive period...



Patch will go live around 12:00 GMT / 13:00 CET today (11/12/2018)

On with the changelog:


ADDITIONS
The following has been newly added to the game.

• Introduced duel action system.
o Some actions now have a hold function added to the key-binding.
o For example if you hold the Reload key (default R) it will now switch the ammo type of the weapon you have out, if another ammo type is available.
o If you hold Alt-fire while your weapon has a gadget attached (Tac-Light for example) you will perform the function of the gadget (turn the light on/off). A quick tap of the same key-binding will use the Melee function instead.
o This is just Phase 1 of the interaction system change. In the following weeks/months we will be increase the visual feedback of the HUD to better show what actions you can and can’t do and what is bound to what.
o You will not be able to un-bind the hold function yet. Something we will look to separate later.
• Added Sprint toggle functionality. No more needing to hold the sprint key down.

FIXES
The following has been fixed.

• Preview of deployable meshes.
• Melee attack animation being faster than the damage applied.
• Private servers not detecting that they are private servers.
• Various collision of different assets.
• Player alliance names not working.
• Overall performance.

CHANGES
The following has been adjusted or changed.

• Meteor loot has been increased. This is phase 1 of our ‘upgrade loot from the sky’.
• Demolition charge Min and Max damage radius has been reduced. They will act more like a targeted demolition than a large AoE demolition.
o As a side effect this change increases the costs of the attacker if they decide for total base destruction, whilst benefiting those who just want to break in, loot and leave.
• Drone changes:
o Significant Health increase.
o Reduced the leash range.
o Decreased overall amount of drones on the map.
o Activated all drones to be aggressive, from their previously passive approach. They will now Kill on Sight.
o Drone loot has significantly increase to adjust for less over all drones.
• Increase to Flops gained from Supply tracker loot.
• Players are now able to bind the TAB key and use it for Inventory or other UI elements.
o We disabled the UE4 default engine behaviour for this to come into effect.


Known issues
These are issues found in testing that we are aware of and will be fixed in subsequent patches.

• Whilst reviving another player, players would become stuck if they also typed in chat at the same time as using the healing item.
o Logging out and in again resolves the issue as a work around.
• It is possible for players to crash their client if they attempt to put Flops into a research centre.
o Doesn’t always crash and there isn’t any reason a player should need to do this.

MEMORIES OF MARS - Season 4 - Patch 1 Info

Dear Martians,

Here are the changes Season 4 brings in Memories of Mars, on with the list:

ADDITIONS
The following has been newly added to the game.

• Added the AC- 5 Brigand Shotgun to the CQS tree.
o Including new Modifiers, ammunition and attachments available to unlock.
• Added Seasonal Leader boards to the game.
o Leader boards come with prizes per season. More information coming in another post.
• Base ownership can now be manually transferred to other players using the maintenance terminal.
o You will not be able to claim unpaid bases by yourself, you will need the owner to transfer it to you.
• Added brand new admin tools for private servers.
o The Dedicated server handbook has been updated and available for any private server related questions you might have. Including how to run a server to using the newly added cheat list.
• Monitor selection option in Video Settings
• Increased No build volumes around SPE4 hotspot.
• Updated season 4 splash screens and main menu.

FIXES
The following has been fixed.

• Potential server crashes.
• Maintenance terminal hologram state functioning as if it was fully built.
• Previously missing assets (icons etc.) added as required.
• Leg animations being funky inside building blueprints.

CHANGES
The following has been adjusted or changed.

• Updated the look of shotgun ammunition icons.
• Optimization for different graphical shaders.

Known issues
These are issues found in testing that we are aware of and will be fixed in subsequent patches.

• Items dropped to the ground don’t fully reflect the customization that has been applied to them.
• Feedback message for no build volume sometimes displays **Obstacle blocked** rather than **No build area.**
• HV 343 Rifle using default inventory icon.

MEMORIES OF MARS - Season 4 launches today!

Hello Martians,

Today, November the 20th, we will enter our fourth season.  Season 4 goes live at 14:00 CET. As you might know, it is a very busy time of the year for all with holidays and promotions ahead of us. So, we have decided to focus this season on balancing the game, improving performance and tweaking systems. What does that translate into?



Well, it translates into a lot of work “behind the scenes”. First, we will keep fixing standing issues (I.e. no-building zone in SPE4, terminal exploit, client crashes, loading glitches or seeing through buildings) and any other that may come. As you know we monitor the forums and discord channel for ongoing community feedback.



At the same time, we will keep working in previous requests like providing an “user-friendly” tool to handle private servers and Leaderboards to display player stats and finally settle who is the alpha clone in Mars.

We will also be revamping the skill tree, where you will spot the new skills to craft a novelty weapon: AC-5 Brigand, a terrific one-handed shotgun.



We will also be providing new customization options with a variety of skins and patterns, including some festive items to celebrate the holidays.

Finally, we will be removing vehicles we had on the test servers since these weren’t used by the majority of players and because by doing so this will enable us to further optimize the game in terms of performance which we consider to be one of our top priorities.

MEMORIES OF MARS - Season 3 - Patch 8 Info

Dear Martians,

Here are yesterday's patch notes. This is Patch #8 for Season 3 of Memories of Mars. This specific patch went live a bit later than usual and it contains only fixes.

FIXES
The following has been fixed:


• fixed armor being lost when logging in after the patch (if your armor is already lost due to the bug in the last patch, it will stay gone, but if you didn't log in during the last patch your armor is still there!)
• fix for server crashes
• terminal markers will not correctly disappear when going to the main menu and relogging into the game
• fix for individualizer not working correctly

Dear Martians,

We keep improving Memories of Mars, as always! Time for Patch #7

ADDITIONS
The follow has been newly added to the game:

• Added 2 new Halloween patterns.

FIXES
The following has been fixed:


• Server crash.
• Scrap grinder and refineries not dropping items to the ground when destroyed.
• Infinite loading screen.
• Player buildings and devices sometimes not appearing.
• Ghost items when dropping and picking up items that were previously equipped.

CHANGES
The following has been adjusted or changed:


• Disabled Nvidia Ansel Support.

Known issues
These are issues found in testing that we are aware of and will be fixed in subsequent patches:


• Some players will be unable to use the individualizer. We have added additional logs with this patch to help us better understand the issue. Do not worry if you can’t purchase patterns this weekend. We aim to resolve this next week.
