Miner: Dig Deep

End of Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year has finished in Miner: Dig Deep. We hope you enjoyed it!

The ox coins have disappeared from mines, but any that your miner is holding can still be traded at the shop.

Small patch

  • The game now displays a little reminder when you run out of light fuel.
  • Teleporters are now covered by stone to prevent anything interfering with them.
  • Fixed very minor instance of text missing from a popup.

Patch for some crashes

Changes:

  • Fixed a crash that could occur at the end of the game.
  • Fixed a crash caused by spamming certain inputs.

Thanks very much to the people that reported these!

Crash fix patch

Fixed a crash when near the mine entrance in new mines.

Happy Lunar New Year

Happy Lunar New Year, everyone!

The game is now on sale, so it's a great time to jump in and play if you haven't already.

To celebrate, we have a new update with:

  • Parachutes! This new item will save your miner from a high fall.
  • The shop keeper has decked-out their shop with New Year's decorations.
  • Tightened up the miner's movement responsiveness.
  • Reduced accidental pickaxe swings when holding down the dig button.
  • Crash reporting is now easier. Reports can now be sent directly from the game.

Happy digging!

P.S. Happy 牛 year, haha

Dev post #2

Hey everyone,

In the last post I mentioned the changes that were made between the XBLIG and Steam versions of Miner: Dig Deep. If you’re new to the game, be warned that this post may contain some minor spoilers.

After the original released we received a lot of feedback on the long journey back down into the mine being boring and frustrating. The light's fuel burnt down as you went too, which felt like a total waste as mining hadn't even begun again. You may have noticed that there’s now a teleporter to take you back down into the mine.

The other changes to the gameplay are smaller, I consider them only smoothing out the rough edges. Selling ore and gems previously was done by opening the store, switching to the sell category, and then pressing the “sell all” button. Too many steps! Plus it didn’t feel rewarding at all. So, the selling was pulled out of the shop and instead a mine cart is now where gems and ore are sold. Being able to see the stack of your loot felt much better, and it was just a single button press on your way to the shop. Lifts felt a bit boring and tedious to ride on, so we increased the movement speed, making them fun to travel on and more convenient. There’s now a display showing how much deeper a lift can extend, this was never shown in the original. The lift extension display avoids the ambiguity when lifts stop, are they blocked by something underneath, or have they hit their depth limit? Running past a ladder while your miner’s feet are still on the ground no longer slows you down. This slow-down was just an oversight in the original, thankfully Will noticed how strange that was. Just after the Steam release, a subtle change was made to the falling rocks to make them more forgiving. Rocks now push you out of the way when they only glance your miner.

So, that's all I can think of that has changed gameplay-wise since XBLIG. Our intention with these changes was to balance keeping the original's feel but freshen it up just enough for modern tastes. I'm curious to hear your take on these changes too.

Patch for improved error logging

Version 2, 0, 5 has just one change that improves the descriptiveness of error logs.

Patch for a text issue

Fixed lifts' remaining depth number not appearing on the HUD.

Patch for a crash fix

Version 2, 0, 3.

Fixed a crash when using lifts.

Peaceful mode

Happy new year everyone! Hope you all had a good relaxing holiday. To celebrate the end of a
stressful 2020 we have added a new game mode.

When starting a new mine, you can now select between two modes, peaceful and classic.

Peaceful mode

  • Keep your gems and ore when you have a mine accident
  • No more cave-ins
  • A warning is given before rocks fall
  • Jumping enabled on the top of ladders
  • New peaceful mode outfit
