The gamma18 build is now live. The focus of this update was a slight reworking of how the endless mode worked—it's now much less shouty, and hopefully more relaxing. We managed to fix a whole heap of bugs as well, most importantly the last known pathfinding bug. Yay!
Unity's been giving us some grief lately, so we've had to downgrade to Unity 5.4 for this build for stability reasons. In doing so we've lost support for Retina resolutions. Less than ideal. :| We're working to get the issues we have with Unity 5.5+ fixed so we can get Retina support back as soon as we can.
We have a substantial update planned for release in a few months. Stay tuned!
17a hotfix
There's a quick update today to address a couple of small issues. If you lost your progress with the last update then this patch will bring everything back. If not, please send me the log! (peter@dinopoloclub.com)
After some extensive help from our Linux players, the recent Linux instability has been nailed down to a conflict between Unity 5's multithreaded renderer and some old libraries that the Steam client ships with. We've reverted to the old renderer in this Linux build which *might* fix the issue; if not you can opt in to the beta Steam client or switch to the snowleopard branch until the client is updated.
Mini Metro's first guest composer, Mateo Lugo!
Cool news, the latest update (out today) has new scores for Seoul, San Francisco, and Shanghai. Mateo Lugo, the composer on Reigns, guest-authored these new scores. ːsteamhappyː
gamma17 doesn't have many other changes. Multi-monitor support on macOS and Linux is still shonky, and on the list of things we're finding time for. Switching resolution on Linux is also nowhere near as robust as we'd like. If you're playing in a window you might need to restart the game once you've configured your resolution to get it to 'stick'. Linux windows can also be resized at runtime which the game doesn't like ... also on the list to address!
We've had reports of the game locking up on some Linux machines since the game's changed to using the Unity 5 runtime. If that happens to you, please email the game's log to peter@dinopoloclub.com. While we're getting to the bottom of the issue, you can revert to the last Unity 4 build by switching to the snowleopard branch.
Gamma 15
All aboard for our new update!
We’ve got two new maps, Seoul and Shanghai! We’ve also made some adjustments in the passenger’s decision making to help them take the best route. You can now switch between multi monitors option in the options menu on Windows. We are still working on this for Ubuntu and macOS.
Happy Steam Sale, everyone!
Gamma 15 on test branch
Heyo commuters,
We've just finished (hopefully!) upgrading both the PC and mobile builds of Mini Metro to Unity 5.5. The current desktop build was built with Unity 4.7, and mobile with 5.3, so this is the first time in a long long while they're on a unified branch. This will be a huge productivity gain for us as we can now develop core features without having to faff about keeping both builds in sync.
However while the new gamma15 build has worked fine in our tests, as the engine upgrade is a significant change we haven't pushed it to the default branch yet. It's available on the test branch, so if you're game please try it out and let us know how it goes. The main additions are the new maps of Seoul and Shanghai, long-awaited fixes to the pathfinding (thank you for your patience!), proper multi-monitor support on Windows and Linux, and support for Retina resolutions on macOS.
The multi-monitor support is what we're eager to see tested the most. We've done what we can in the office but we don't have a huge array of hardware, and no multi-monitor Linux setup at all. You can find the Display option in the options menu, and can change it at run-time. Unfortunately this is only an option on Windows and Linux; we tried looking at options for monitor-switching on macOS but as far as we can tell Unity doesn't support it at all. :|
One unfortunate side-effect of upgrading to Unity 5 is the lack of support for 32-bit versions of Mac OS X (this is the primary reason we stuck with 4.7 for so long). We will archive the current build to a snowleopard branch so it will continue to be available. We can't continue to support this branch though, so I'm really sorry if you're on 10.6 and this affects you. If this is unacceptable please request a refund stating that as the reason. The refund process is out of our hands, but we'll do what we can to support your request.
Oh and Mini Metro got a nomination in the Steam Awards! Thanks a ton if you nominated us. It was totally unexpected. We'll no doubt badger you all for a vote soon. ːsteamhappyː
Keep the city moving!
Peter
Gamma 14
Just a little update to tidy up a few issues—the interface no longer vanishes if you continue a scored game into Endless mode, and the Greek, Catalan, and Hungarian localisations have been restored. A huge thanks to our community for completing those translations!
Gamma13, no really this time
Hello everyone! The latest update, gamma13, is now live, for the second time. This time we decided to ship without the crash so you'll actually get to play it for longer than two seconds.
On a more serious note, we've looked at our build processes and made a few changes so things like this don't slip through again. Thank you for your patience.
The update includes the following major changes:
A new map, San Francisco! Bridge over the two estuaries as you link up the cities of the Bay Area.
Major overhaul of the line-building code. This has cleared up a lot of the niggling issues when building and editing routes, and also made middle-edits feel a lot nicer.
Lines can now cross. It's still best to avoid it as your trains move slower when they have to cross other lines.
Enjoy!
Gamma13 rollback
Hi everyone,
I'm very sorry, but we've had to rollback to gamma12. Soon after the update we got reports from a number of players about crashes. We've had a look and it's something we need to look more into.
If you were playing gamma13 without any problems then you can still get to it on the test branch. To do so, from the Library tab: right click on Mini Metro, click on the Betas tab, select "test" from the dropdown, then click on Close.
Sorry again for the issues, we hope to have it back up and running soon!

Minor update
The gamma12 build is live on Steam now. This is a fairly minor update with the following changes and fixes:
-novignette and -notint can now be specified on the command line to hide the vignette and tint.
Added European Portuguese translation.
Fixed the crash when starting the game from within a directory named with non-ANSI characters.
Resuming an archived game now correctly restores the score.
Logging's been added around the Daily Challenge to track down the update loop it can get stuck in.
