Everything to know about Moncage
First of all, thank you for following Moncage and for taking the time to read this. We couldn’t be more grateful for the remarkable support from our community thus far and have prepared the answers to some of the most commonly asked questions. We hope this will help give you a more clear understanding of Moncage :)
Q: What is Moncage?
A: Moncage is an adventure puzzle game where the player explores a mysterious cube to uncover the hidden truth. By rotating the cube and seeing it from different perspectives, you connect the clues and objects across seemingly disconnected worlds to solve the puzzles.
Q: When will Moncage be available?
A: Development for the game is practically complete at this point. We’re now adding some final touches to ensure a flawless launch of a 1.0. Official release is planned for 2021, so stay tuned!
Q: Where can I purchase/download Moncage?
A: At launch, Moncage will be available on Steam and mobile, followed by a release for Nintendo Switch. Wishlist us on Steam and follow us on Twitter @XD_EN_Official to get the latest updates!
Q: The puzzles seem kinda difficult...
A: Don’t you worry! We integrated thoughtful hints and prompts into the game - if you ever find yourself stuck on a particular puzzle, try unlocking a hint that may help provide a whole new perspective and point you in the right direction to a solution. We’ll have a walkthrough for how this system works soon!
Q: Is there a story to the game?
A: Not only is there a story in Moncage, it is a critical part of the overall experience. Keep in mind that the progression of the story may be disguised as or triggered by specific settings, puzzles, and collectibles. Only by putting all the different pieces together can you uncover the full story.
Q: What was the motivation behind Moncage?
A: We wanted to explore video games as a channel for artistic expression. Moncage was designed to be an experimental puzzle adventure where optical illusions and text-less storytelling seamlessly come together as one. Players are able to immerse themselves in a mysterious, multidimensional setting as they search for clues to gradually uncover the underlying story.
Here are some early mockups and concept art:
Q: How long have you been working on this game? What is your team like?
A: We are a small team of two and have been working on this game for three years. We have been passionate gamers ourselves, and we both went to NYU for game design, after which we decided to pursue a full-time career in game design and development. With our focus for the game aligned around creativity, both of us were heavily involved in the creative process of the Moncage. We’ve learned a lot from this experience and are super excited for the future ahead of us as game developers.
