Advanced Geomancy!

A very cool team of fans have finished something they have been working on for a very long time - Advanced Geomancy: an extremely polished room editor for Star of Providence!

Going forward it will be considered "official" and we would like to do some work with them to integrate it. In the meantime, you can download the editor here:

Renaming and DLC Consolidation

Good morning/afternoon/evening/night (go to sleep, you), Monolith fans.

We have recently been... made aware of a legal situation regarding the name of the game. Specifically, it was trademarked in 2015 by Warner Bros—we assume this has to do with their subsidiary game studio, Monolith Productions, but we aren't sure.

We haven't heard anything from Warner Bros, and it's possible we never would. But we have some big plans in store for later this year, and it's not worth the risk of getting a C&D, so we will be renaming the game sometime in the next month.

We'll be taking advantage of the situation to deal with an unrelated, but long-standing issue. Relics of the Past has long been considered by far the superior version of the game, but many players start out without it and consequently miss out on its plethora of quality of life improvements and general gameplay/balance changes. Once the name change rolls out sometime in the next month, we will also be making Relics of the Past the default version of the game—the base game will cost $15 and the DLC will be included. Because we don't want to simply do away with something that has remained available for the better part of a decade, After the End will still be available as a separate Steam branch accessed from the Betas menu. This does mean that anyone who owns the base game but not RotP will effectively get the latter for free—consider this period a sale, if you like.

This will be a strange transition period, but I'm very excited about what we have in store. See you on the other side.

Monorail 3!



In a little under one hour's time (10AM PST, 1 PM EST), the third Monorail Racing event will begin at https://www.twitch.tv/MonorailRacing! Monolith: Relics of the Past Update - February 23, 2020


  • Temple no longer progresses seeds
  • Drill hopefully actually never bugs out anymore
  • Genesis properly has a race now (of Construct)
  • Fixed a single errant block on floor 4

Monolith: Relics of the Past Update - February 16, 2020

Bugfixes:
-You can now buy keys from life shops in Sudden Death
-Fixed an issue where bomb flash could last forever
-A certain item drop from a certain enemy will now drop in the middle of the room if the enemy happened to be inside a wall.
-Fixed some issues with arcades
-Shield is now actually saved
-Breaches can no longer appear completely locked behind shortcuts, and neither can the shrine deal that spawns more rooms.

Monolith: Relics of the Past Update - January 25, 2020

Bugfixes:
-Chain lightning no longer breaks as skully if you get a second instance
-Rockhead should no longer have phasing
-Fixed difficulty being broken by boss practice
-Skully npc now leaves if you trigger boss fight while he's around
-Cannot hack rooms that happen to be adjacent to end game boss fights after you're locked in
-Same goes for opening secret rooms.

Monolith: Relics of the Past - Update January 19, 2020

Bugfixes:
-Edge of Reality works again
-Save files no longer do dumb stuff (including steam cloud actually working now)
-Fixed a visual bug with skullies in temple
-Holy water no longer sets you to max ammo if you're above it (such as after taking that one shrine deal)
-Cursed weapons spawned from Grim Idol are no longer linked.
-A certain drill module as skully actually gives piercing instead of just saying that it does.
-Arcade no longer drops weapons when it shouldn't
-Current score correctly added to total money every time you loop
-Fixed an issue where Headhunter's bonus could last forever
-Skully is less dramatic
-Care package price now updates when you buy something else in the shop.
-You can no longer give up your weapon to the shrine if you don't have a weapon.

Balance Changes
-Triple Drills are now weaker outside melee
-Cursed weapons now break faster
-Edge of Reality charge rate nerfed (note that the bug fix above is a massive buff)
-Reflector cart radius is doubled

Misc:
-Scanner 2.0 no longer uses its charge if there are no rooms to reveal.
-Microcore's drops are better spread out

Bugfixes:
-Fixed the mysterious disappearing warden staff
-Fixed loop title appearing on floor 3
-Fixed a bug where unique shops weren't actually as rare as they were supposed to be

Balance Changes
-Plating now rounds down instead of up
-Slightly tweaked the possibilities for forgotten places

Monolith: Relics of the Past Update, January 14, 2020

Bugfixes:
-Fixed blobs.
-Fixed a couple softlocks involving certain enemies sneaking out of rooms with you.
-Fixed issues with a certain boss' eyesight.
-Fixed half of the salvage weapon prompt on map screen appearing as Skully.
-Shortened the extended tooltip for Plating so it doesn't creep the edge of the screen.
-Scope now works as Skully before you've taken a weapon.
-Fixed an issue where care package wouldn't be consumed if you closed the game.
-Buttons in Boss Practice should be better behaved.
-Arcades no longer give bombs to Arena Blaster.
-Fixed a rare bug that could break upgrade terminals.
-Sound effects in Bestiary are now centered.

Balance Changes
-Cavalier has received better training on shield use.
-Enigma Blessing rooms have been reworked.
-Quickening now revives you with a bonus 20% damage.
-The Warden's staff phase is slightly easier.
-Shrapnel is buffed.
-Ringshot Razors now use more ammo when fired.

Miscellaneous:
-Hacking minigame in tutorial is now more explicit.

Monolith: Relics of the Past Update, Jan 12, 2020




Bugfixes:
-Fixed a bug where vaults couldn't spawn
-Fixed a crash with credit card and Special Offer
-Fixed some typos
-The description for the Gun cartridge has changed.

Balance Changes:
-Split weapons buffed
-Infested weapons buffed
-Pulsewaves keyword buffed on sword and laser (drill is the same)
-Corona and Bonechill now smash right through breakable blocks without stopping.
-Luxor now reaches full power sooner.
-All continuous lasers (including Luxor) as well as Gorynich have a faster turn rate while in use.
-Spear has a slightly wider hitbox
-Zephyr now does more damage when fully charged
-The maximum hp granted by plating is no longer empty.

-Small swords have had their size increased, giant swords have had their sizes decreased. Hopefully this reduces the massive dominance of the giant keyword.
- Sacred Arms is no longer giant, but has received some other buffs.
- Excalibur swings slightly faster (but has shrunk like all other giant swords)
