Moonless Knight

Knight's End - The final game in the Skautfold series coming this Halloween.

The Finale has taken shape.

The last game in the Skautfold story-ark will be titled Knight's End, will feature Len the First Knight, and take place only days before the inevitable destruction of life on earth.

Gameplay will be a mix of exploration and a separate screen timeline based combat system, with active defensive and aggressive play using the final iteration of the Guard system.

Planned release date is this Halloween, so October 31st.

Story:
The finale will follow the First Knight Lennecia as she undertakes a personal journey to save Saragat from a rather unfortunate fate. To do this she will venture onto the now abandoned Waltham Industries factory site, and delve deep into its secrets, facing the worst possible adversary for such a mission, Waltham himself.
The story takes place only days prior to the now broken Moon's pieces laying absolute and final destruction to all complex life on Earth, and just before the Human built Citadel is to take off from London with as many humans as it can carry for a possible escape.
The story wont revolve around some contrived way to save humanity from the pieces of the Moon, but rather her personal mission to save Saragat from a horrible fate that awaits him.

Gameplay:
Exploration will be very similar to the original game Shrouded in Sanity, with easier navigation.
Expect a similar style an atmosphere as you delve into Waltham's deepest secrets on his factory grounds and below.
However Combat will take place on a different screen, akin to jrpgs where you are transported on contact with the enemy.
Combat uses a timeline based system where actions take time to execute and have different cooldowns, both for you and the enemy. At all times you can see exactly what the order is via the visible timeline, allowing for precise planning.
Unlike most turn based rpgs you CAN an should actively defend yourself, minimising downtime and rewarding good timing, using the correct defensive action, or taking a bigger risk attempting to parry.
Each of your attacks have a status effect tied to them, with 3 different types of qtes to increase damage and chance of applying the status tied to the weapon.
Good timing on defensive and offensive actions will reward you with Chain, a resource you can use to unleash one of three different finishers, all playing into the rock paper scissor style weakness system, where the old-school combat triangle comes into play.
The battlefield will be reactive in that all attacks will leave a mark, so by the end of some fights it will get quiet messy.

All in all combat may sound complex, but its far easier to understand in practice, and I worked hard to ensure its far more engaging than the old-school simple turn based combat systems of the past. Controls are fast simplified to ensure no slow and cumbersome menu browsing will occur.

#Update 32 - Patch 1.05

Not gonna list out the various small bugfixes I had in the last week, updating almost daily, they were too minor to mention.

--- Boss Rush added. The mode can only be accessed if you have the final boss achivement, or have a clear file (Read on). Once unlocked any save file cna be used to access it, the bosses can be defeated in any order, death leads to full booting to main menu... no second tries.

- Each boss will drop 1 vitae injection to help you cope.

- You can attempt the boss rush using a clear save file... this will let you try your skill at level 1, no weapon upgrade, no injection upgrades, no pet levels, no relics... good luck.

--- Final boss now generates clear save file used for future additions, achivement checks are also used in case you defeated the final boss prior to this update.

--- Final boss arena changed.

--- Acid status should now work as intended.

--- Two new achivements added regarding Boss Rush mode.

#Update 30 - Patch 1.03

--- Curse dmg bonus doubled. Curse was too much of a no brianer choice with too many positives and not enough punishment.

--- Boss markers fixed for dark area.

--- Scroll massive bug related to stat rescalling fixed, was only affecting one life untill saving or dying. Now fixed.

--- Pug loading error fixed, wont harm pre existing saves!

--- Pug pet added, will spawn even if you already got the achievement, its more powerful than the rest of the pets, but considering the means to get it, its fine. New projectile and explosion effect added to reflect the nature of this amazing familiar.

Skautfold: Moonless Knight 1.0 Exiting Early Access - Support continues.

As of right now Moonless Knight exits Early Access, but just as the title says, the support won't stop here. Content updates will still be frequent, in addition to the obvious bug fixes and balance changes where needed.

The core content of the game is now officially finished. However, post game content is planned, in the form of new game plus, buss rush, boss gauntlet, challenge modes with appropriate achievements, at least one additional area with a super boss, just more reasons to replay the game once you are done with your first run.

I would like to thank everyone who provided feedback, here and especially on our official discord. Continued interest and engagement helps me a lot.

--- Act 3 2nd boss added, not too hard, but has his cute lore appropriate gimmick.

--- Various boss improvements for 3 bosses across the game, a bit of move variety and some much-needed balancing for a few too easy ones.

--- Map fixes to act 1 displaying nonexistent door.

--- All 20 Pugs added, appropriate achievement added, for now it will only reward you with the achievement, the true reward will be added post launch (will be awarded retroactively don't worry)

--- Store page screenshots updated to current build... they were VERY outdated being pre-early access...



Like I said the game will leave Early Access today. Once the trailer is out, we are moving to full release.

1.0 Update.

--- Final boss added, still work in progress balance and attacks wise, subject to change.

--- 3 new pieces of music added for the appropriate places.

--- Relic usage bug fixed where bow would be visible for no good reason.




Planned release date is still 4th of March, day after tomorrow, I still need to clean a lot of things up, and finish a trailer and an uncut gameplay video for the page as well as provide new up to date screenshots. Finally, achievements WILL be in on launch with more created as more content is added.


I am not some publisher who will make you a fancy roadmap, but here is some general outlines for what's planned:

-New game plus.
-Boss rush/Boss all at once (returning from SiS)
-More vehicles, including something... something... hover board...
-The pug hunt.
-Difficulty modes (need feedback to balance these out).
-At least one more area for the big secret.
-More pets.
-And some challenge modes, like Pacifist, No leveling, No healing, and permadeath mode, returning from Usurper.... for "fun".
