Hi Blacksmith's,

I wanted to drop by and give an update on what's going on with the development of the game.




Tool Inspection


In the next update, you'll be able to inspect the tools you made or found. This will be pretty cool when modding support is implemented, allowing you to share your own 3d models with other blacksmiths so they can inspect and admire your creation.




Nasty Golems


Although combat is something I don't believe is necessary in a game about blacksmithing, I do want there to be some element of risk, danger and consequences. These little golems will be spread around the world. Some will be peaceful, while others will be protecting valuable resources. So, prep your pickaxes and get ready to defend yourself.




New Smelters


New smelters will be added in the next update. The current one is pretty broken and I have been meaning to fix it but it also was in desperate need of some rework. The small smelter, which is a more simplified version of what you all know and love, will replace the current one while the larger one, with more advanced features such as molds, will require a purchase (in-game, using coins).






Fine Cuisine


Any chefs here? In effort to help you be a better blacksmith, mix and match different fruits, vegetables and meats to create dishes that give you bonus' to your stats. You'll be able to find ingredients in the wilds or at the grocer in Northelm. Not eating won't hurt you but instead, you only loose the buff after the timer runs out. The better the dish, the better the bonus'.


There is much more I am working on including bug fixes as always.

The next update will take some time as I'm also working on a major overhaul, including the addition of a skill tree. I will make another post on the overhaul in my next dev blog.

Hey Blacksmith's,

I apologize this update took so long. I also want to thank everyone for their support and kind words and your bug reports. Speaking of which, I will soon be implementing a new bug reporting format. Bug reports need to be centralize instead of having it spread out between Steam, Stomts and Discord. It will be public and you can vote, which will help prioritize which bugs need to be fixed. This will also work for your suggestions as well. I will post an update when it's ready.

I moved the 0.1.2.035 version of the game to the Main branch and the new update 0.1.2.037 is on the experimental branch. As always, I will need your feedback/bug reports so that I can push this update to the main branch a.s.a.p.

Addition/Changes


  • You can opt-in (options menu) to drop your equipped tool instead of swapping it out.
  • Converted old terrain to voxel terrain. So you can dig down in most areas with your pickaxe ( will eventually convert that to shovels instead). There are things to find underground so have fun.
  • Added new two-hand blunt head variants. These must be learned with skill books.
  • Added two more dungeons at higher levels. ( Still working on better loot)
  • Added Shift+Enter Minigame Tooltip when working with metals on the anvil
  • The Farmer will order a one-hand sword.

What's Happening?

Hey Blacksmith's,

Just wanted to give a quick update to let everyone know work on the game is progressing just fine. There were a few hiccups with Unreal Engine 4 and some game bugs that set work back by a few weeks. There are still some standing issues but I'll eventually get them ironed out.

If you haven't checked it out already, I posted a small sneak peek at some of the stuff I implemented for the coming update.

There are still more things that have been added but I'll leave those things for you to discover.

An important note is the next update will most likely break your worlds as I implemented a new voxel landscape for digging. If your world is still working, some of your workstation placements may be floating or in the ground, as well as any tools/weapons/etc that are lying on the ground may fall through the ground. So, just in case, place your stuff inside the house or a building. They should spawn back but some of you are creative and like to place things in interesting places ːsteamhappyː . So, I will push the Beta branch to the Main Branch and place the new update in Beta.

I don't have a release date yet but it should be hopefully soon.

This new patch most likely will not agree with your old save games. Sorry :(
Also, I think I'm getting close to a fix for the crashes some players are experiencing. Hopefully, I can get a fix for that a.s.a.p but I'll admit, these are pretty tough to isolate and fix.

Fixes

  • Saving/loading in Geoffrey’s Shop should no longer spawn extra items.
  • Log/Planks bundles collision fix.
  • Delivery Jobs for Northelm Castle Barracks should no longer have missing weapon details.
  • Fixed an issue when waking up on a new day, certain objects not recognizing the new day. This includes the job board and ledgers.
  • No longer able to exploit creating armor with ingots and weapons/tools with metal plates.
  • Fix for not being able to buy/sell anything other than leather armor and books.
  • Killed player momentum when entering portals. Help prevent issues like entering a portal twice unintentionally.
  • Teleporting will carry most, if not all items with you. Known Bug: the items will Yeet to the floor which will require you to pick up again.
  • Using the wagon should no longer (ever) cause UI issues.
  • The adventurer will now spawn at the spawn zone thing when loading a game where they are not in a dungeon.
  • Flower seeds can be planted in pots again
  • Fix to Player’s hammer visible when loading back into a game where all tools should be unequipped.
  • Fix to bed collision. Should be easier to pick up.
  • Fixed issue with trying to remove shaman polearm weapons from adventurers.
  • Fix issue with Northelms puzzle game cubes spawning under the ground.
  • Remove collision area on job crates.
  • Set default keybindings to WASD
  • Fix to being unable to grab weapons from adventurers after they’ve returned from a quest.
  • Gate should remain open when loading back in.

Update 0.1.2.033

The new patch should work with your old save games.
As always, this patch introduces a few more bugs. There are some bugs I am aware of like the job board not creating new jobs (in some cases at all), collision issues with the log/plank bundles, and Geoffrey's shop grips and guards not displaying their sell/buy price, among a few others. I am working to get a patch out for that soon. Also, multiplayer should no longer be enabled.

  • Common grip requests are now possible again to fulfill.
  • Items sales on Ledger (incl. Old save games) should be present when entering a loaded game.
  • Weapon guard quality should display properly.
  • Invalid weapons from customers should be displayed separately from the original request.
  • Moving a shelf, with ingots, no longer breaks ingots.
  • Adventurer’s internal clock now synced with the game clock.
  • Fix to Depth of Field.
  • Changing the left or backward keybindings no longer causes you to move in the same direction as right and forward. Might need to rebind keys.
  • Audio muted, will be properly muted.
  • Ingots snapping to a shelf will retain its position/rotation when the shelf moves location.
  • Crystal fx removed when attaching light/dark crystals to grip.
  • Teleport pads now visible in the heaven area.
  • Blades/axes no longer sharpening pass 10 quality after removing from sharpening station.
  • Objects falling under the earth should have a higher chance to respawn near the players’ shop.

  • Customers accepting +1 or less than the requested metal.
  • Adjusted prices for purchasing/selling grips on harder difficulties.
  • Fixed missing/incorrect tooltip info for armor.
  • Completing certain puzzles, on reload, reverted to an incomplete state
  • More work is done on fixing building roofs and stairs with better positioning. Things should line up perfectly. You will need to destroy your old roofs and create new ones for the changes to work.
  • Should no longer be able to open the character stats book and activate build mode and vice versa.


Changes/additions:


  • Moveable Adventurer spawn point. Moves like everything else. However, the adventurer will not move with it. Only after returning from a dungeon run.
  • Redefined behavior for unknown entities.
  • Large crystal gate - rewards increased x2, also the second door to the room unlocks after completion.
  • Characters now blink.
  • Changed customer algorithm which reduces how often Patrons and Youtubers spawn.
  • Added a new female hair option.
  • Tweaks to crates. Added new skeletal mesh for the crate, hopefully to fix some physics issues.
  • Changes to "Extra Content". You will need to re-input the code to get access to the content again.

Customer types

Hey Blacksmith's,
I wanted to address a change in the last update but unfortunately neglected to mention how it worked.

Some of you might have noticed the customers now come in 5 varieties. People of the Land, Soldiers, Nobles, Royalty, and Heroes. Each is locked behind the new reputation system. So, unlocking the next tier will unlock the next type.


  • People of the land ask for basic tools (more will be added) and limited types of weapons like daggers.
  • Soldiers will request repairs.
  • Nobles will have more detailed requests and those requests are tied to the "House/Clan" they belong to.
  • Royalty and Heroes will ask for a variety of things, much like how it was before, however, they will ask for armor as well.


Also, if you push a customer/guard except for the Adventurer, you will lose reputation.

On a final note, the Job board's main purpose is to allow you to earn more reputation (and coin) So if you want to quickly get to Heroes or make armor, doing jobs will expedite your progression. Job boards are created at the Saw. It requires 12 planks.

I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.
Thank you everyone for your comments, suggestions, and bug reports.

Today's update has been added to the Alpha Test Branch, hopefully, to prevent any issues with the Live branch of the game. I am planning on updating this branch more often until the game is stable and finally, push the update to the Live branch.
You can access the Alpha Test branch by:

  • Right-Clicking on "My Little Blacksmith Shop" in your Steam Library.
  • Select Properties.
  • Click on the Betas Tab.
  • Click the drop-down menu and choose "alphatest". This will download the new update.
  • Click close.


Your current save files will not work, unfortunately. However, the good news is, going forward, all new save files should work with any new versions of the game. Unless otherwise stated.

Patch Notes



Changes:



  • Puzzle door reworked to accommodate the new crystal. New and random solutions to open.
  • Wagon completely redone. Tweaks are still needed but overall issues with the wagon flying off or being upside down etc.. should not happen. Physics is removed and is now using math to calculate its position and rotation relative to the horse. However, issues may arise if the game runs in the lower FPS range. Maybe below 10fps. Also, the back can be opened and closed for easier access to the interior of the wagon.
  • Adjusted equipped lantern position to be more off-screen to improve screen real estate for the player.
  • New crystal behavior. All crystals have been removed from the map to facilitate the new behaviors. Light and Dark crystals have been renamed and are spawned once per day in random locations throughout the map but only one of each can exist in the world at one time.
  • Sandbox map uses a new Voxel terrain for deformation. Use a pickaxe to destroy the ground below you. Ore veins don't spawn under the earth yet. Also, no caves yet either.

  • Fix shield use for Adventurer.
  • Gear on the Adventurer should be visible when loading back in.
  • Adventurer not coming back if sent out and the player saves and leaves then loads back in.

  • Mismatched planks on the wood workbench.

  • Assembling weapons/shields should retain all information so when disassembling, the information is returned to each broken off part.
  • Continue button enabled on completely new installs with no save games.
  • Moving the portable ledger should be easier.
  • Updated some footsteps audio.
  • Removed first-person characters shoulders to avoid clipping issues when using two-handed tools
  • Wagon’s door should save properly now
  • The mining helmet should be visible when riding the wagon.
  • The bed should have a collision with player again.
  • Crate lids colliding with the player.
  • Spamming the place order button causes the delivery box that drops to be invalid.
  • Coins showing 0, on the character sheet.
  • Zinc Ore not mineable.
  • Overall volume toggle not working.
  • Grass missing near the Cathedral.
