Hey all, Just a quick video to show you some of the progress in our menu system!
Working hard to get this update out to you soon! Happy Tuesday!
Space One - Update
As many of you may know, I have postponed releasing any new updates in favour of releasing one massive update. This update is coming along swimmingly, and will be released at some point later in the year.
At some point the video game industry decided it was okay to release games with bugs, and I hopped on that wagon when I made Electron. I created the game without fully polishing it and there were many bugs that required me to stop and take a look at how I was doing things.
This new update which I have been working on since November of 2022, will replace all content currently in the game.
Everything has been rebuilt. From the HUD to the menus, to the characters. Not one thing has not been rebuilt.
A New Name Upon the release of the new update, we will re-brand the game as Space One (dropping the Electron from the end).
Completeness As a new indie developer, there were a lot of assumptions made when making my first published game. One of which was that I could improve the game as I went along. Whilst not entirely inaccurate, the content needs to be there first. It needs to already be fully fun and playable and this is an area I failed you all on. I wont be making this mistake again.
When this new update is released, it is my intent to ensure the highest level of craftsmanship possible. This means as bug free as I can possibly make it, as complete as I can possibly make it (Content excluded, that will be added with time, for example more equipment, more buildings, more ship parts, more mobs, more skills, more resources), filled with tutorials, a strong save system that can withstand the growth of the game, and maximized customization.
The Current State of the Game Currently, I am adding the new game menu. Here, you will customize your character which will allow you to select Gender, facial features, hair and eye colour, background, stats and skills.
I have developed planets, and the player now starts on the planet and has to work their way into space. The main menu now contains a fully customizable keyboard layout. You now will have the ability to change the textures, as I have also designed a texture modding system to accompany this update.
Setting and Goals You will find you have crashed on a strange planet, and need establish a thriving colony before you can return to space. Here, you will gather resources and build buildings. This part of the game is like its own game. It will take you several weeks of gameplay to make it back to space.
Here, you will need to grow the colony, and there are a few ways you can do it. One way is to open up a shop and tend to it every day. This will help you develop friends with the colonists as they arrive and also earn you the $$$ you need to get back into space.
During this time you will improve your colony, research various components needed to build your spaceship, as well as farm the land in order to feed yourself and your colony.
As you advance, you will be able to employ your the colonist friends you have made to do work for you. They will plant and harvest for you, they will run your shops, they will mine for you etc.
Eventually, you build your space ship and return to space! Once in space, you can travel to infinite planets, making colonies anywhere you like, find rare minerals, develop your ship, hire crew to fight on your ship, upgrade your ship from a small shuttle to a massive battleship, command drones and so much more!
The Main Storyline I will be introducing short animated videos to the game to help deliver a narrative.
Someone or something attacked you (the same someone or something that destroyed earth), and sent you crashing to the ground on this strange planet!!! It is your job to find out who or what attacked you, and rid the galaxy of them once and for all, so that humanity can once again be safe among the stars!
Thank you all for your continued support! Things are going well for the game and I hope to have this new update to you as soon as possible!
MAC SUPPORT - DISCONTINUED
It is with a heavy heart that I have had to let go of electron development for mac. Those of you who bought the game for mac (only 3 of you) can reach out to me and I can find a solution for you. Steam may not offer a refund but I may be able to.
We do not have the resources nor the manpower to take on this huge change! Hopefully later down the road we can.
Kindly,
Your Dev - Andy.
Development Progress - Update
Work has taken priority over the game. As many of you are aware, the cost of living is going up everywhere!
There is a lot of new content ready to be released but it is not yet complete.
This update is still on hold until it is completed which is now looking like December.
I apologize as I love making Electron. But there is no point making it unless I have time to do it right!
So be patient, and hang on! I have a 6 week vacation in Mid November to January 1st.
During this time I will put 12+ hours per day into updates and bugfixes!
Thank you all for joining me on this journey! The path is difficult, but we will get there!
Introducing Mac M1 and Intel Support (Experimental)
We have now released support for Mac. I will say that it is a complicated endeavour, and so should you encounter any issues, direct them to me on the discord and please be patient.
Whilst it will work on basic macbook pro's, it may need a little more power than a macbook pro's graphics card can provide. (Macbook dependent of course)
Game Mechanics - Update Part I of 4 - SP3
This patch brings a few changes and a lot of background preparation for the second part of the Mechanics Update. Some major fixes: - The Color system bug has been fixed. This was due to an issue with CPU architecture preventing dll loads that should now be resolved. - You will notice there are cargo bays. They are visual for now. They were not intended to be included with this update, however they are now included as a major bug was found that needed immediate fixing and it is easier to leave them there, than to remove them. There is a lot to come regarding items that can be installed on your ship, the cargo bays are one such example.
- Colliders and ship interiors (in the space station) now load properly.
Game Mechanics - Update Part I of 4 - SP3
This patch adds shadows, cargo modules and various visual and performance improvements. It adds sound to the cargo bay doors and changes the way you access the cargo bay from outside. It adds interaction notifications, and functionality to the lights and the beginning of silent running mode. You can now use most buttons in the cockpit menu.
More to come!

Bugfix
Fixed a bug where stations would not load when you entered the docking bay.
Gameplay Update - Part 1 - SP0
This update fixes a few incomplete sections of the interior of the docking bay, namely the Trident frame, the Ganymede Engine and the Pulse II turret were not yet implemented. They are now, and should be fully functional.
Just a quick note about the next few months in development. Mainly, Between now and July, my focus is: - Make the artwork more uniform - Complete more of the game sounds - Fully implement the interiors of all buildings. - Fully implement player and ship stats - Remove all exterior building menus and replace them with an interactive interior environment. - Add player visual customization - Add a player equipment system - Add the purchasing and upgrades of ship parts in game. - Improve the various partially built objects - Move the water module to the inside of the ship - Develop the station interior crafting system (For crafting everything from tables, and chairs, to plants, beds, weapons and much more) - Develop the interior placement grid (where you place items you make) - And most importantly dedicate several full days to bug fixes. - Going forward, I want to try and wait until all bugs have been cleared before release. - Lastly, find a more effective way of making sure you get to keep your save data. I remember playing minecraft, and some updates I lost all my progress. It drove me nuts. I don't want to be like that. I want to find a way to make sure you can pick up where you left off. So I will try to dedicate some serious thought into how I can achieve this for you all, whilst still growing the game at the same time.
Thank you all again for being a part of this journey as we grow from a small game into a great game(my hope and wish) Have a great weekend!
Andy
The Gameplay Updates - Update 1 : May
https://youtu.be/890VMp494r4
A upgrade to gameplay (which is necessary for various improvemente to be made) is under way.
Included in this first update: Station interiors - What you build in space, you can now explore! Player character model - You now have a player character. Player character communication - I added a new tip system. New Gameplay menu options. Customizable ships. Ship recoloring can now be done in the cargo bay. The Farm Upgrade Module - Used for unlocking floors, and improvments to farms. We will be moving away from menus into a more interactive way of playing the game. This menu is an example of that. Tonight I will add a quick tutorial update, showing how to use various features, as it has come to my attention that some things are not immediately obvious!
Various performance upgrades. Many bug fixes including the horrible starless bug which plagued us for days.
