Greetings MyDream Journal Readers!

The past week we’ve been working on some great new features, including a more free building method! We’ve been putting in a way to unlock the target from the reticle in the middle of the screen, which will allow both first and third person players to place blocks by pointing to the target area with their mouse or right joystick!

We’ve been making great progress on home screen menus and navigation. The new home screen brings a fresh new look, better organization of the different features, and room for new features! Everything is also being designed with both mouse and gamepad in mind, and everything from login to gameplay will be set up for both control types.

Greetings MyDream Journal Readers!

The past week was full of progress, including more work on controls, animations, and voxel optimization.

Controls and camera features have been getting better and better. We’ve been trying out first and third person with the new character controller, and looking into additional camera and world interaction functionality. One feature we’ve been testing is having the camera angle raising and lowering while flying, in order to improve steering.

Character animations have been coming in at a steady pace. We have surface swimming, diving, horizontal + vertical ladder climbing, and horizontal + vertical rope/chain/ivy/pole climbing animated and ready to add to the character, along with some more flying and falling adjustments.

Our voxels are getting better and better, and now we’re doing fun testing exercises to see how they handle it. We’ve even tried throwing physics objects at the terrain, which is working really well! Level of details ranges and other parameters are still being fine-tuned, and the end result will be tuned for seamless performance.

Greetings MyDream Journal Readers!

We made some good progress last week, getting further on putting the new UI together, new swimming animations, more trees, and all with only a slight pause to the install Unity 5.1.1 update!

We’ve been making steady progress on the UI redesign. Beyond supporting all the current features we have for both gamepad and mouse users, we’re laying the foundations for all the features we will support for launch, and extensibility to support post-launch features as we get to them.

We’ve added the assets for our new SpeedTree trees, which were worked on during some previous Art Corner episodes. These efficient new trees will replace our current trees with better performance, better looks, and states of aging! This will also get us closer to resolving the long-standing issue where some trees may not be harvested.

We hope that everyone had a great weekend!

Last week we continued our progress on Gamepad support, including an in-office demo where we demonstrated gamepad login and the state of the controller test environment. This also includes some of the new UI art and features we’ve been working on!

We’ve been making more progress on the code side of things as well. We are continually making progress on the voxel engine optimization, which will hopefully be finalized by the end of August if not sooner! We’ve also got a fix in place for the block and terrain pickup issues where they are not being added to the inventory.

Greetings MyDream Journal Readers!

This has been an exciting week for MyDream. We’ve recently added Dan Mueller from JUDOBABY INC. to the MyDream development team, where his background and expertise will help us refine our plans going forward towards both launch and post-launch development! Welcome to the team, Dan!

We’ve been working hard on a few particular features recently, and we’ll probably be working on these tasks along with others for the next few weeks. It may be a little while before we release our next update, but it will be pretty amazing when we deliver it!

Progress on our voxel engine optimization is ongoing and making great progress. We’ve been able to see an entire 64 cubic kilometer terrain space render merely on a single CPU thread at a playable framerate in an uncompiled environment, which is nothing short of amazing. When this workload is distributed to multiple threads and the GPU gets involved, performance should be both smoother and more seamless than ever!

Trees and bushes are being remade with SpeedTree to improve both the beauty and performance of any landscape where they appear, and we’ll be using SpeedTree to create even more organic life to populate the Dream Worlds and all their regions.

We’ve been making great progress on our new character controller. Currently we have an internal test build which allows us to rapidly modify the attributes of the character, which will allow us to fine-tune the default and maximum ranges for things like movement speed, jump height, and more. This test build is also being used to try out Gamepad integration and third-person camera features, which will further allow players to customize their gameplay experience in MyDream!

Greetings MyDream Journal Readers!

Happy week of E3! We have some great news this week, and a lot of progress is being made.

We are starting the final preparations for wrapping up the voxel engine overhaul, which may be making its way in over the next few weeks, and with it we’re starting to put more emphasis on things which will come shortly after like replacing the trees. Scott “TapCrush” Scherrer is working on some fancy new trees and bushes using SpeedTree, which will replace our old trees with updated looks and performance improvements anywhere trees are densely packed. Some of this work was shown off in Episode 5 of the Art Corner show.

We’ve got a new show started on the MyDream Twitch and YouTube channels - Chris Garcia started up Episode 1 of MyDream Coding Hour last Tuesday at 2 PM Pacific to show off some work on the Character Controller, and will be continuing to do more development shows the same time every week. More character controller work was continued during episode 6 of the Art Corner show, with new animations for movements in all four directions. We’re very excited to get the new controls in place for everyone to use!

Greetings MyDream Journal Readers!

This week we’ve been working both behind-the-scenes and live on Twitch! Scott “TapCrush” Scherrer has completed the first object made during the Art Corner show - a brand new Lamp - which will be making its way into MyDream fairly soon! He’ll also be working on making a new time-lapse video of the process for a more condensed look at how it was made.

We’ve also been making quite a bit of progress with character controller upgrades, including more considerations for Gamepad support. We’re getting ready to do a balancing pass on movement, along with adding new mobility features like crouching down to under 1 unit so 1x1x1 sized spaces can be accessed!

Progress on the voxel engine optimizations are continuing at a steady pace. This will not only make MyDream run far smoother and faster than ever before, but will also pave the way for later features like enhanced AI and fluid pathing, as well as allowing more precise terrain edits than what is currently possible.

It’s been a bit since the last update, and we have some great news about what we’ve been up to!

Update 0.8.8.11 is live, bringing with it some more optimizations, newly-retextured blocks, more automagic block functionality, and some other fixes and fine tuning! We did have some unforeseen delays with this update, but going forward we should be updating more regularly. We still have a couple lingering issues with the player avatar animations and Crystal Rock creatures desire to explore, which will either be fixed in a hotfix or in the next update.

We’ve been working hard on some key features, and we’re looking to release a new public build with some of them very soon!

The next update should be coming within the next week. This will include more automagic blocks, light sources attracting to nearby surfaces, lighting updates, and some terrain rendering optimizations!

Speaking of which, we’re making some further progress into voxel terrain rendering optimization behind the scenes, and these improvements should vastly improve performance while resolving some annoying visual oddities. We’ve also been making progress on a full overhaul of the UI, which will be extensible to support gamepads and touchscreen devices. In fact, we’ve successfully logged in with the new UI using a gamepad!
