Minor Patch: Insurance, Port battle BR limits and other minor changes.
Captains
First insurance contracts were known from 1750 BC, it was done in form of the stone tablets and often had bugs stuck in the plates. Removing them was a long and tedious process. But its never to late to fix a problem.
Insurance contracts major fix There was a bug in insurance payouts that was overpaying for very cheap ships and underpaying a lot for expensive crafted vessels. From today the insurance will take into account the number of upgrade slots and quality and base prices of woods used in ship construction. As a result you will receive less for cheap fir or oak ships but will receive much more for expensive wood 5 slot vessels.
Port battle BR Fixes As we promised some time ago port battle BR limits should reflect the number of ships provide for ship variety in some port and take into account the location of the port. We have changed BR limits for ports to reflect this. Its a first step and we will tweak it for perfection soon with your feedback.
Explosions We do not like that many port battles can drastically change their flow due to one explosion - the system did not take into account much lower HP for masts as well. As a result we are lowering explosion damage for structure, masts, sails, and slightly for broadside planking. We kept the damage to crew the same - if you expect nearby explosions do not forget to brace.
NPCs in Patrols NPCs in patrol areas were streamlined so all nations can find enemies in those locations. Lower level NPCs were also provded.
Wapen/Wasa Wapen and Wasa ship crafting blueprints was fixed as they used incorrect number of wood logs before.
We are very interested in feedback on explosions and their effect on battles, insurance payouts and port battle BR limits. Please provide feedback in discord or steam forums.

Minor patch and His Majesty Royal Navy Surgeon opinion.
Captains
It is a known fact that the main cause of injuries in the age of sail navies was not splinters or cannonballs; it was hernia. The dangerous condition, caused by the hard work and constant pulling of heavy weights and rope, condition which was once described by His Majesty Royal Navy Surgeon - Rear Admiral Humphrey De Vere - as scurvy of the sea, the menace of long naval patrols. But now lets talk about something completely different - patrols and XP.
Patrol Tier Changes
Patrols will now use their own tiers of damage; damage tiers will be reduced greatly for light ship patrols and so on.
XP calculation for kills and assists.
Currently the xp for kill is split between captains based on the % of their damage. This reduces motivations for group combat. We have changed the system. To promote group activities the player who gets the kill will always receive full XP, assisters will get xp based on the % of damage they inflicted. This will encourage taking friends with you for NPC or player hunting.
Other changes
Top mast HP was increased, as it was too easily destroyed even at battle sails.
Patch will be deployed today - 25th of July - at maintenance
Diana event on weekends and other changes
Captains,
Diana event will run from daily maintenance on July 21st until daily maintenance on July 24th.

New season!
Captains!
New season starts today. We have big plans for the new season and will continue improving the game.
Major changes
New combat events added
3 timed competition combat events have been added to the game. Captains will be able to compete with other captains in the speed of destruction of several enemy ships for combat medals
Woods rebalancing
The wood has been rebalanced
The old wood system was severely unbalanced, with many types of wood being completely useless and some heavily buffed
New approaches to balance:
Created several classes of wood, each with its own main characteristic and penalties to all other characteristics
The higher the wood rarity, the greater the main bonus and the lower the penalty to other bonuses
The higher the quality of the wood, the lower its drop chance or cost of obtaining in investments
Base crafted woods have one bonus - rare woods can have several main bonuses
Slight structure increases
Structure have been increased for light and medium vessels to give a bit more durability. They still can be raked with ease - its just you need a bit more damage to deliver the critical skill shot
Masts damage and battle sails
Mast HP was lowered to allow easier demasting at full sails
Battle sail mast damage reduction was increased to allow a lot more protection at battle sails and lower
Ship HP
Ship planking HP is slightly lowered for ships of the line. The overall balance of combat on higher level vessels is under review
PVP Zones trading
Rare woods are now only delivered to cities located in pvp zones
Only PVP zones now provide best prices to sell trading resources
NPC traders now try to avoid pvp zones when picking trading routes
Additional plans and known issues
BR limits for port battles are under review and will be improved within a short time after start of the season
Fun and length of battles in lineships is under review
Upgrade improvements are under way and will be delivered within 1-2 months after the start of the season
Ship sail curves uniqueness will come back into the game
Ship mass effect on speed and acceleration is under review
2 new races with different routes will be added to the game
1 new DLC ship (also available through events) will be added to the game
Perks major rebalance and unlock of additional perk points for ship knowledge slots is also coming
Better visualization of enemy ships in the open world and ships in the auction so new players can see which ships they should or should not attack or can or cannot use
Other changes and improvements will also come during the season

Notification on the delay for the new season update
Captains,
We found the issue with 2 new combat events that could cause problems for players, and are working on the fix. If fix is not found in the short time we will disable the 2 new combat events and will deploy the patch tomorrow. Apologies for the delays in the start of the season - some interesting compensation will be provided for the delay.
