Neon Exile Server Shutdown

Unfortunately due to factors beyond our control, the server technology we are using is no longer available for us to use in Neon Exile and since the game is so tightly integrated into this server technology we are not currently in a position to change the backend to a different provider. We have therefore taken the difficult decision to shut down the early access and sales of Neon Exile. The game will be removed from sale on September 30th 2022 and the servers will no longer operate.

If you own the game, you will be able to continue playing the single player training courses, but there will be no online access or multiplayer.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback and enjoyed the early access phase of our game. We greatly appreciate all of your help and hope that you enjoyed this glimpse into the future of massively multiplayer VR experiences.

Hopefully at some point in the future we will be able to revive Neon Exile in some form.

Update 0.2

Your Vanguard suit has been updated to v0.2. This update features:


  • 2 new Advanced Training Missions, these are single player timed courses similar to the first training mission.
  • Major rewrite to our server backend and updated version of the game engine. This will allow us to do more in the future and support more exciting multiplayer and persistent world features.
  • Updated Fringe Sector environment with new structures.
  • Support for our new experimental team PVP mode events.
  • Purple glow for objects that will be picked up with Force Grab.

Team PVP Battle Mode Test 2

  • You will not be able to change teams during the week-long test.
  • Turrets will target enemy players.
  • VERMIN will still spawn but will not have Colonies.
  • The Vanguard team will be based at A and the Exile team is based at B.
  • You will only be able to teleport to your own base.
  • Player name tag (above their head) shows their team color.


Goal


The goal of the battle is to destroy the generators of the enemy team. These can only be destroyed with an EMP Bomb and can be rebuilt after they have been destroyed.

Resources


Resource Units will be team shared in this game mode. Meaning that there are no personal resources collected, all collected RU will go to a team bank and when you use the Fabricator the cost will be deducted from the team bank.



Generators


To build generators you will need to make all of the Generator parts from a Fabricator. This process is the same as building any other complex module like the Health Station or Fabricator. The parts of the generator are too heavy for one pilot to carry, you will need to either make 2 trips to team up to bring all of the parts. Generators will only work when built on an Energy Source (indicated by green smoke).


Update 0.115 - Experimental Team Battle Mode Launched

With the 0.115 update we have launched the week-long test of the new PVP Team battle mode. This is an experimental game mode that will pit 2 teams against each other instead of focusing on the PVE VERMIN threat.

The goal of the battle is to destroy the generators of the enemy team. These can only be destroyed with an EMP Bomb and can be rebuilt after they have been destroyed.

During this test the regular Fringe Sector PVE gamemode will not be available. The test will end in 1 week.



Team Battle Mode



  • You will not be able to change teams during the week-long test.
  • PvP and friendly fire is on, so be careful of you shots.

  • VERMIN will still spawn but will not have Colonies.

This update also addresses some bugs and smooths out player avatar movement for remote players.

Update 0.114

This update addresses a few server side errors and the following changes:

- New module snapping system. Module parts (such as fabricator, health station) now snap into position when placed so you no longer have to line them up exactly. Even dropping the part on the approximate position will snap it into place.
- Fix to Blaster (basic gun) running out of ammo.
- Smoothed out network movement of some objects and enemies. Players still need to be fixed for smoother movement.

Update 0.113

Neon Exile has been updated to 0.113 with the following changes:



- Buildable health station
- VERMIN Drop Pod art updated
- Added compass directions image to spawn platforms
- Fix to Vanguard Turrets not buildable in certain locations.
- Fix to VERMIN soldiers getting stuck in some cases
- Some optimizations in network traffic
- Destructible Zipline connectors
- Updated game icon

Update 0.112

This update addresses some bugs and internal optimizations, while also improving some mechanics.



- Construction snapping settings. You can now set the position and rotation snap amount or turn it off completely to build free form.
- New scrap items to pick up.
- Added force grab to hands that have a weapon mounted, but at a shorter range.
- Added a large world map to each base spawn area, showing direction of VERMIN attack.
- Added a leaderboard to PVP zone
- Added a leaderboard score for destroying VERMIN Colony Structures.
- Tweak to the skybox/background to show the glow of the VERMIN home.
- Fabricator UI will spin around so it can be used by multiple players.
- Fix to player icons in minimap (thanks for reporting Cizen)
- Tweak to inventory item selection so they don't get selected accidentally too easily (will probably still need some adjustment to improve this)
- Fix to the fire trail of the VERMIN drop pods
- Major change to the VERMIN AI system as previous implementation was causing too many problems and impacting performance. This is not complete yet but a first pass at the new movement and firing code.
- Fix to VERMIN colony building
- Fix to player message system so messages don't disappear too quickly and they will now queue up if there are multiple messages.

Update 0.111

Today's update continues some internal upgrades and fixes to the VERMIN as well as the following changes:

- When the options menu is open you cannot select an inventory item to prevent accidentally spawning them
- Fix to inventory full bug
- Optimizations to terrain to improve performance
- Messaging system added so dev and mission messages can be sent to players
- Increased size of snow mound around Vanguard bases.
- Lowered the toxic fog slightly so you don't have to jump/climb as high to get out of it.

Update 0.110

Our new update is now live with v0.110. This update addresses mostly internal server optimizations but also a few other bug fixes and improvements:

- VERMIN improvements and bug fixes
- Server optimization to support more VERMIN
- Added a healing sound
- Fixed leaderboard display at bases
- Minimap grid fixed to 100m distances
- New sound effect for EMP
- Prevent shooting while grabbing the zipline
- Prevent inventory button selection when grabbing the zipline

Update 0.109

This update mostly improves the VERMIN AI and their ability to attack players. In particular the Soldier VERMIN are now more deadly and can attack player built structures. It's time to protect your bases with Vanguard Turrets.
