Beta - v0.3.00c Patch Notes

New



  • Reworked Rune - Apparition (Terrify) (previously Legion): When spirits spawn, they fear enemies within 3 tiles for 3.5 seconds. Each enemy can only be feared once in this way.

Runes

  • Floating text for player damage taken now includes an icon indicating the type of damage (melee, ranged, or true).


Bug Fixes



  • Fixed bug where the Oracle's Eye emblem had no effect during the intermission phase in which it was collected.

Spells



  • Added a random altar to the initial spell selection phase, allowing the player to choose a random basic and/or primary starting spell.
  • Power Fist: Damage increased from 50% of power to 70% and 140% to 180% for third casts.


Bug Fixes



  • Fixed bug where Alchemist and/or Oracle character statues were not usable the first time the game was loaded even if they were unlocked.
  • Fixed bug where casting Apparition (Legion) could crash the game when interacting with various emblem effects (introduced in v0.3.00a).

Beta - v0.3.00a Patch Notes

New



  • New Playable Character - The Oracle: Starts with the new Oracle's Eye emblem (see below), chooses any defensive spell at level 3, and chooses any expert spell at level 5, but gains less stats from tomes. (Unlocked by winning a run with the Alchemist)
  • New Emblem - Oracle's Eye: Whenever you use the reroll altar, you may use it again to undo the reroll and regain your reroll token any number of times. (Unlocked by winning a run with the new Oracle character).
  • New Spell (Basic) - Ignite: Create small columns of explosions in 4 directions, dealing (80% power) fire damage to enemies.
  • New Spell (Basic) - Lash: Crack a whip of electricity towards target direction, dealing (65% power) lightning damage to enemies.
  • New Spell (Basic) - Ravage: Channel to summon a mouth familiar that bites enemies in front of you, dealing (360% power) arcane damage per second.
  • New Spell (Expert) - Buzzsaw: You gain a buzzsaw familiar. Casts recall the buzzsaw to your current position, dealing (450% power) arcane damage to enemies it passes through.
  • New Elite - Yellow (Mortar): Regularly launches a barrage of small missiles at random nearby positions.
  • Reworked Rune - Apparition (Legion) (previously Entourage): Enemies now drop souls upon death that last up to 8 seconds. This spell instead consumes all souls within 6 tiles to leave a spirit in their place and has a 15 second cooldown.
  • Reworked Rune - Dragon's Breath (Brood) (previously Hyperventilate): You gain 4 egg familiars that surround you. This spell no longer has a cooldown or mana cost but consumes the egg in target direction to unleash a cone of fire that deals (300% power) fire damage. Eggs respawn after 12 seconds (affected by cooldown speed).
  • Reworked Rune - Dragon's Breath (Inferno) (previously Wildfire): Instead unleashes a circle of fire around you, damaging and knocking back enemies within 5 tiles.
  • Reworked Rune - Drain Soul (Empower) (previously Masochism): Each enemy drained grants you 1 bonus power 30 seconds. This bonus is reset whenever you cast this spell.
  • Reworked Rune - Drain Soul (Seize) (previously Horrify): Affected enemies are instead pulled towards you and stunned for 4 seconds.
  • Reworked Rune - Fireball (Wildfire) (previously Amplify): This spell now deals (60% power) fire damage but you gain a stack whenever you cast any other spell (up to 8 stacks). Casting this spell consumes all stacks to trigger an additional cast per stack.
  • Reworked Rune - Lava Chakram (Trinity) (previously Buzzsaw): This spell now has a 6 second cooldown but summons 3 chakrams, each dealing (100% power) arcane damage, lightning damage, and fire damage.
  • Reworked Rune - Storm Spear (Quiver) (previously Ricochet): This spell no longer costs mana but you only have 5 spears to throw. Spears embed themselves in walls and are automatically collected when you are nearby or after 8 seconds.
  • Reworked Emblem - Tranquility (previously Meditate): After not casting any spells for 2 seconds, you gain 6 bonus life regeneration for 5 seconds.
  • Reworked Elite - Purple (Infested) (previously Gembound): Spawns melee spider enemies upon death.


Player



  • The Alchemist: Base power reduced from 90 to 80, base life reduced from 120 to 100, now unlocked by winning a run with the Neophyte.
  • The Neophyte: Base power reduced from 100 to 90, base life reduced from 150 to 120.
  • Player is now invulnerable after a run to prevent death during victory cutscene.
  • Base critical hit damage increased from 130% to 150%.


Spells



  • Any unlocked basic spell and any unlocked primary spell can be chosen at the start of every run.
  • Locked spells now show unlock requirements when moused over and have a greyed-out spell icon instead of a generic lock icon in the spell encyclopedia.
  • Apparition: Spirit attack cooldown increased from 0.33 seconds to 0.5.
  • Black Hole: Cooldown reduced from 9 seconds to 7, cooldown timer now starts after the black hole expires.
  • Dragon's Breath: Cooldown increased from 7 seconds to 9.
  • Drain Soul: No longer slows enemies, now knocks enemies back.
  • Fireball: Damage increased from 85% of power to 100%, damage radius increased slightly.
  • Grasping Vines: Cooldown reduced from 10 seconds to 5, cooldown timer now starts after the vines expire.


Runes



  • Fireball (Splitter): Damage increased from 35% of power to 45%, spread reduced from 40 degrees to 30.
  • Meteor Form (Slam): Now deals bonus damage equal to 200% of maximum life.
  • Power Fist (Slugger): Spell damage no longer reduced.
  • Solar Beam (Overheat): Now only prevents casting this spell instead of all fire spells, heat gained reduced from 40 per second to 30, heat decay reduced from 46 per second to 10.
  • Solar Beam (Prism): Rune renamed to Refraction.


Emblems



  • Locked emblems now show unlock requirements when moused over and have a greyed-out emblem icon instead of a generic lock icon in the emblem encyclopedia.
  • Agony's Insight: Cooldown timer reduction reduced from 1 second to 0.5.
  • Alchemy: Now unlocked by winning a run with the Alchemist.
  • Blessing of Brutality: Bonus critical hit damage increased from 40% to 50%.
  • Death Defiance: Revive effect no longer refreshes upon entering a new arena.
  • Dragon Heart: Damage increased from 40 to 50.
  • Dynamo: Damage bonus increased from 25% to 30%.
  • Hunter's Dash: Bonus damage increased from 15% to 20%.
  • Withdraw: Damage reduction increased from 50% to 75%, duration increased from 4 seconds to 4.5.


Enemies



  • Flat life bonus for all elites increased.
  • Boss - The Conservator: "Roosting" no longer speeds up but instead speeds up the clock tick rate and all enemies by 15% for the duration, no longer heals while "roosting".
  • Boss - The Warden: Flail no longer deals contact damage or fires projectiles, new key throw attack added, flail sprite changed.
  • Bomb Fly: Sprites changed.
  • Giant Frog: Attack range significantly reduced.


Other



  • Poison damage significantly reduced.
  • Added grates to sewers arena, allowing the player to walk over gutters at specific areas without being poisoned.
  • Changed how enemy AI is handled to increase game performance.
  • Added the Native Mouse Lock extension by YellowAfterlife so players cannot click out of window/monitor while playing (except while the game is paused or the menu is open).
  • Added a quick restart option to the pause and post-game menus.
  • Post-game screen can now be sped up by left-clicking and shows the current character name.
  • Reduced gems requirement for all unlocks.
  • Changed the stat icons for maximum life and life regen.
  • Tome - Attack Speed: Bonus increased from 3.5% to 4%.
  • Tome - Critical Hit Damage: Bonus increased from 15% to 20%.
  • Tome - Maximum Life: Bonus increased from 8 to 10.
  • Tome - Power: Bonus increased from 5 to 6.


Bug Fixes



  • Changed how sound effects play to avoid audio glitches that some players were experiencing.
  • Fixed bug where the Adrenaline and Grit emblems could unintentionally provide extra bonuses.
  • Fixed visual bug to prevent challenge invasion banner message from appearing while player is dead or dying.

v0.2.02 Patch Notes

Note: I have received several bug reports stating that some emblems/spells are dealing the incorrect "damage per second". These effects have 2 or more damage ticks each second which add up to the correct amount (e.g. if you expect something to deal 100 damage per second, it may be dealing 2 ticks of 50 damage over a 1 second period).



Spells



  • Black Hole: Radius increased from 4.5 tiles to 6, pull force increased.
  • Dragon's Breath: Damage increased from 450% of power to 500%, knockback increased, cooldown reduced from 8 seconds to 7, mana cost reduced from 40 to 32.
  • Drain Soul: Radius increased from 3.5 tiles to 5.
  • Teleport: Range, increased from 13 tiles to 15, cooldown reduced from 6.5 seconds to 6.


Runes



  • Grasping Vines (Harvest): Bonus mana regeneration per stack increased from 0.5 to 0.6.


Emblems



  • Cursed Touch: Damage per second reduced from 10% enemy max. life to 8% and 3% boss max. life to 1.5%.
  • Dark Thirst: Mana restore on kill reduced from 5% of max. mana to 3%.
  • Spontaneous Combustion: Damage per second increased from 40% of power to 100%, duration reduced from 3 seconds to 2, damage ticks per second increased from 1 to 2.
  • Tempest: Damage per second reduced from 70% of power to 50%, no longer damages neutral characters.


Other



  • Slightly changed heart visual effects created by healing potions.


Bug Fixes



  • Fixed a bug where the Apparition spell could target positions outside of the arena.
  • Fixed a bug where using Teleport (Telefrag) spell on certain targets (e.g. hazards and the Warden's flail) would crash the game.

Runes



  • Teleport (Telefrag): Target detection radius increased from 0.75 tiles to 1.5.

  • Fixed a bug where the Enlightened emblem was not applying the correct amount of bonus power.

Alchemist Update



New



  • New Playable Character - The Alchemist: Once unlocked, head to the bottom of the hub room and interact with the player statues to change character between runs.
  • Challenge system has been trimmed while maintaining the same level of difficulty. The new order is: (i) elite enemies, (ii) stronger enemies, (iii) invasions, and (iv) arenas evolve. The effect of the previous "bigger waves" challenge level is now included in all runs by default. The effects of the previous "tougher enemies" and "stronger enemies" challenge levels have been combined into a single challenge level. (I want the vast majority of challenge levels to be novel gameplay changes to avoid artificially inflating the longevity of the game, especially since challenge levels are unlocked separately for each playable character.)
  • New Emblem - Arcane Insight: You have 15% bonus maximum life and 2 bonus life regeneration as long as you have an arcane spell equipped.
  • New Emblem - Alchemy: Healing potions drop 3.5 times more often but you no longer regenerate life.
  • New Emblem - Concentration: Your spells deal 20% more damage but you can no longer move while casting.
  • New Emblem - Elemental Harmony: You have 15% bonus power as long as there are 2 different elements among your equipped spells, or 30% bonus power for 3 different elements.
  • New Emblem - Excessive Force: You have 30% bonus critical hit damage and critical damage from spells knocks enemies back.
  • New Emblem - Fire Insight: You have 10% bonus power as long as you have a fire spell equipped.
  • New Emblem - Kill Time: The next time you deal critical spell damage, all cooldown timers are reduced by 1 second. This effect refreshes after 1 second.
  • New Emblem - Lightning Insight: You have 50 bonus maximum mana and 30% bonus cooldown speed as long as you have a lightning spell equipped.
  • New Emblem - Marksman's Brew: Collecting healing potions causes the next spell you cast to deal critical damage. Each enemy can only be critically damaged in this way once per spell cast.
  • New Emblem - Photosynthesis: All regeneration is increased by 100% but you only regenerate while not moving.
  • New Emblem - Potion Guzzler: Healing potions can overheal, granting bonus maximum life that degrades over 15 seconds (stacks independently).
  • New Emblem - Vigor: You have (3x life regen.)% bonus move and attack speeds.
  • Reworked Emblem - Ambush: You have 30% bonus critical strike chance while your life is at 90% or higher.
  • Reworked Emblem - Boulder Stance: You gain 20% bonus power, 30 bonus resistances, and knockback immunity, but your base move speed is reduced by 50%.
  • Reworked Emblem - Brawler: Spell damage you deal to enemies within 4 tiles is increased by (30% resistances)%.
  • Reworked Emblem - Cursed Touch: Enemies that damage you are slowed by 50% and take (10% enemy max. life) arcane damage per second for 5 seconds. Deals (3% enemy max. life) damage per second to bosses.
  • Reworked Emblem - Dark Thirst: You no longer regenerate mana but you restore 5% of your maximum mana whenever an enemy dies.
  • Reworked Emblem - Dragon Heart: Every 20 life you gain deals 40 fire damage to enemies within 6 tiles.
  • Reworked Emblem - Elemental Devotion: Whenever you cast an elemental damage spell you gain a stack. Upon reaching 6 stacks you lose all stacks and the element of the last spell cast becomes empowered, increasing all damage you deal of that element by 15%. Only 1 element can be empowered at a time.
  • Reworked Emblem - Grit: You have 0.8 bonus life regeneration and 4 bonus resistances for every 10% missing life.
  • Reworked Emblem - High Voltage: Critical lightning damage stuns enemies for 1.5 seconds.
  • Reworked Emblem - Maim: The first time you deal critical damage to an enemy, that damage is increased by 25% and that enemy is permanently slowed by 20%.
  • Reworked Emblem - Reaper: Each enemy you kill during combat grants you 0.3 bonus maximum life until end of combat. Your maximum life is reduced by 40.
  • Reworked Emblem - Reckless Strike: Basic spells deal 20% more damage but casting basic spells deals 5 true damage to you.
  • Reworked Emblem - Tempest (previously Trailblazer): You leave a trail of electricity as you move, dealing (70% power) lightning damage per second to enemies for 4 seconds.
  • Reworked Emblem - Withdraw (previously Thick Hide): After being damaged by an enemy, all damage you take is reduced by 50% for 4 seconds. This effect refreshes after 10 seconds.


Player



  • Multiple instances of damage taken from enemies in a small duration is greatly reduced to help prevent the player from being bursted down before they can react.
  • Entering a new arena now removes poison and fully heals the player.
  • Changed how life and mana regeneration works to be more accurate (now internally measured in amount per second instead of amount per frame).


Spells



  • Chain Lightning: Cast speed reduced.
  • Electric Field: Damage per second reduced from 110% of power to 65%.
  • Grasping Vines: Now also spawns vines behind you, range reduce from 18 tiles to 13, duration reduced from 6 seconds to 5.5.
  • Static Discharge: Damage reduced from 100-780% of power to 100-700%, base charge time reduced from 2 seconds to 1.5, damage radius increased from 5.5 tiles to 6.
  • Stone Skin: Shield reduced from 40% maximum life to 30%, cooldown increased from 10 seconds to 12.
  • Whirling Death: Updated visual effects.


Runes



  • Skipping a rune no longer grants a random tome.
  • Rework - Grasping Vines (Harvest) (previously Strangle): Each enemy grants you 0.3 bonus life regeneration and 0.5 bonus mana regeneration while rooted by this spell.
  • Apparition (Raiju): Now deals 50% power lightning damage, changed area of effect visuals.
  • Black Hole (Supernova): Damage reduced from 500% of power to 400%.
  • Burst (Demolition): Number of bubbles reduced from 10 to 8, cooldown increased from 4 seconds to 5.
  • Dragon's Breath (Wildfire): Damage increased from 700% of power to 720%, channel duration reduced from 0.83-1.83 seconds to 0.5-1.5, changed fully charged sound effect to be more noticeable.
  • Lava Chakram (Nimbus): Damage reduced from 110% of power to 70%.
  • Solar Beam (Overheat): Bonus attack speed reduced from 40% to 30%, bonus move speed increased from 60% to 70%, added sound effect upon gaining the overheat effect.
  • Stone Skin (Crash): Stun radius increased from 2.5 tiles to 3.5.
  • Whirling Death (Throw): Throw effect is no longer cancelled if only invulnerable targets (e.g. hazards) were hit.


Emblems



  • Arcane Invocation: Bonus resistances reduced from 9 to 4 per stack, no longer grants bonus cooldown speed for 7 seconds (stacks up to 5 times).
  • Adrenaline: Now grants 4 bonus power and 4% bonus attack speed per stack, no longer grants bonus move speed or bonus resistances.
  • Affinity Emblems: Damage bonus reduced from 15/30% to 10/20%.
  • Aftershock: Now deals (30% enemy max. life) lightning damage after a brief delay or (5% enemy max. life) damage to bosses.
  • Agony’s Insight: Cooldown timer reduction reduced from 1.5 seconds to 1.
  • Avatar: Cycle interval reduced from 6 seconds to 5, bonus damage increased from 25% to 40%, now reduces the damage of other elements by 30%.
  • Berserker: Bonus attack speed reduced from 80% to 50%.
  • Blessing of Brutality: Bonus critical hit damage increased from 20% to 40%.
  • Blessing of Elusivity: Bonus ranged resistance reduced from 20 to 12.
  • Blessing of Rejuvenation: Bonus life regeneration reduced from 3 to 2.
  • Blessing of Strength: Bonus power reduced from 14 to 10.
  • Blessing of Toughness: Bonus melee resistance reduced from 20 to 12.
  • Close Combat: Damage bonus reduced from 14/28% to 15/25%.
  • Crippling Aura: Movement speed slow increased from 20% to 60%, attack speed slow reduced from 20% to 15%.
  • Elemental Assault: Now causes enemies to take 15% more damage while marked by 2 elements or 25% more damage while marked by 3 elements instead of increasing damage taken by 7% per element, changed emblem icon.
  • Enlightened: Bonus power increased from flat 15 to 15%, grants 20 bonus resistances instead of granting evasion, changed emblem icon.
  • Entropy: Damage per second increased from 600% of life regeneration to 10x, damage ticks per second increased from 1 to 2, no longer plays non-critical hit damage sounds, radius effect improved.
  • Essence Shift: Heal reduced from 18% of mana spent to 10%.
  • Fairy Ring: Bonus life regeneration reduced from 6 to 4.
  • Fire Invocation: Bonus critical strike chance increased from 2.5% per stack to 3%, bonus critical strike damage increased from 5% per stack to 6%.
  • Frenzy: Bonus attack speed reduced from 2/4% per stack to 1/3%.
  • Hail of Blades: Projectiles now pierce to damage enemies in a line, damage reduced from 80% of power to 50%, improved visual effects, changed emblem icon.
  • Heavy Hitter: Damage bonus reduced from 25% to 20%.
  • Hunter’s Dash: Damage bonus reduced from 18% to 15%.
  • Invigorating Brew: Changed emblem icon.
  • Levitation: You now start moving at maximum speed.
  • Lightning Invocation: Now grants 0.33 bonus move speed per stack, no longer grants bonus maximum mana.
  • Malaise: Enemy power reduction increased from 18% to 25%, now also increases enemy damage taken by 5%.

  • Meditation: Bonus life regeneration reduced from 6 to 5.
  • Mine Layer: Now deals fire damage, damage increased from 50% of power to 70%, maximum number of mines reduced from 16 to 10, mine duration reduced from 12 seconds to 8, refresh time reduced from 8 seconds to 3.
  • Overachiever: Damage bonus increased from 20% to 25%.
  • Patience: Instead grants 5/15/30 bonus power and 15/30/50% cooldown speed for 2/3/4 equipped cooldown spells respectively.
  • Potion Master: Changed emblem icon.
  • Psychic Scream: Now fears instead of stuns enemies, damage threshold increased from 50 to 60, duration increased from 1.5 seconds to 2.
  • Sharpshooter: Damage bonus reduced from 25/50% to 15/25%.
  • Simplicity: Damage bonus reduced from 20/40% to 10/20%.
  • Sumo: Now deals (250% max. life) damage.
  • Time Leak: Clock catch radius increased from 1.8 tiles to 2, catch altitude threshold increased.

Enemies



  • Enemy projectiles now have damage scaling based on distance traversed, dealing less damage at close range.
  • Gembound elites (purple) projectile speed and turn rate decreased, damage and cooldown increased.
  • Toxic Elites' (green) poison trails are now broken up randomly.
  • Bloat: Base life and move speed increased.
  • Fly: Attack range increased.
  • Giant Frog: Base power reduced, poison cone angle and duration reduced.
  • Giant Rat: Can no longer be staggered while attacking, base life increased.
  • Spinner: Move speed and acceleration increased.
  • Vulture: Move speed, acceleration, and turn rate increased.


Other



  • Added character-specific achievements for completing runs and challenge levels, removed obsolete achievements.
  • Flat stat modifiers are now applied before multiplicative stat modifiers.
  • Emblems, spells, and runes can no longer reroll into a choice that has already been seen this round.
  • Choice altar collision and spacing has been changed to reduce instances where players would accidentally bounce off and choose the wrong reward.
  • Sonic turret hazard attack range greatly reduced, attack cooldown increased, sonic wave speed and turn rate variance reduced.
  • Healing potions now emit a hearts to increase visibility.
  • Changed unlockables order.
  • Mouse cursor is now locked to game while in fullscreen, preventing players with multiple monitors from accidentally clicking out of the game.

  • Fixed bug where Lava Chakram (Nimbus) was dealing the same fire damage instead of increased lightning damage.

  • New Emblem - Alchemy: Healing potions drop 3.5 times more often but you no longer regenerate life.
  • New Emblem - Concentration: Your spells deal 20% more damage but you can no longer move while casting.
  • New Emblem - Elemental Harmony: You have 15% bonus power as long as there are 2 different elements among your equipped spells, or 30% bonus power for 3 different elements.
  • New Emblem - Excessive Force: You have 30% bonus critical hit damage and critical damage from spells knocks enemies back.
  • New Emblem - Fire Insight: You have 10% bonus power as long as you have a fire spell equipped.
  • New Emblem - Kill Time: The next time you deal critical spell damage, all cooldown timers are reduced by 1 second. This effect refreshes after 1 second.
  • New Emblem - Lightning Insight: You have 50 bonus maximum mana and 30% bonus cooldown speed as long as you have a lightning spell equipped.
  • New Emblem - Marksman's Brew: Collecting healing potions causes the next spell you cast to deal critical damage. Each enemy can only be critically damaged in this way once per spell cast.
  • New Emblem - Photosynthesis: All regeneration is increased by 100% but you only regenerate while not moving.
  • New Emblem - Potion Guzzler: Healing potions can overheal, granting bonus maximum life that degrades over 15 seconds (stacks independently).
  • New Emblem - Vigor: You have (3x life regen.)% bonus move and attack speeds.
  • Reworked Emblem - Ambush: You have 30% bonus critical strike chance while your life is at 90% or higher.
  • Reworked Emblem - Boulder Stance: You gain 20% bonus power, 30 bonus resistances, and knockback immunity, but your base move speed is reduced by 50%.
  • Reworked Emblem - Brawler: Spell damage you deal to enemies within 4 tiles is increased by (30% resistances)%.
  • Reworked Emblem - Cursed Touch: Enemies that damage you are slowed by 50% and take (10% enemy max. life) arcane damage per second for 5 seconds. Deals (3% enemy max. life) damage per second to bosses.
  • Reworked Emblem - Dark Thirst: You no longer regenerate mana but you restore 5% of your maximum mana whenever an enemy dies.
  • Reworked Emblem - Dragon Heart: Every 20 life you gain deals 40 fire damage to enemies within 6 tiles.
  • Reworked Emblem - Elemental Devotion: Whenever you cast an elemental damage spell you gain a stack. Upon reaching 6 stacks you lose all stacks and the element of the last spell cast becomes empowered, increasing all damage you deal of that element by 15%. Only 1 element can be empowered at a time.
  • Reworked Emblem - Grit: You have 0.8 bonus life regeneration and 4 bonus resistances for every 10% missing life.
  • Reworked Emblem - High Voltage: Critical lightning damage stuns enemies for 1.5 seconds.
  • Reworked Emblem - Maim: The first time you deal critical damage to an enemy, that damage is increased by 25% and that enemy is permanently slowed by 20%.
  • Reworked Emblem - Reaper: Each enemy you kill during combat grants you 0.3 bonus maximum life until end of combat. Your maximum life is reduced by 40.
  • Reworked Emblem - Reckless Strike: Basic spells deal 20% more damage but casting basic spells deals 5 true damage to you.
  • Reworked Emblem - Tempest (previously Trailblazer): You leave a trail of electricity as you move, dealing (70% power) lightning damage per second to enemies for 4 seconds.
  • Reworked Emblem - Withdraw (previously Thick Hide): After being damaged by an enemy, all damage you take is reduced by 50% for 4 seconds. This effect refreshes after 10 seconds.


Player



  • Multiple instances of damage taken from enemies in a small duration is greatly reduced to help prevent the player from being bursted down before they can react.
  • Entering a new arena now removes poison and fully heals the player.
  • Changed how life and mana regeneration works to be more accurate (now internally measured in amount per second instead of amount per frame).


Spells



  • Chain Lightning: Cast speed reduced.
  • Electric Field: Damage per second reduced from 110% of power to 65%.
  • Grasping Vines: Now also spawns vines behind you, range reduce from 18 tiles to 13, duration reduced from 6 seconds to 5.5.
  • Static Discharge: Damage reduced from 100-780% of power to 100-700%, base charge time reduced from 2 seconds to 1.5, damage radius increased from 5.5 tiles to 6.
  • Stone Skin: Shield reduced from 40% maximum life to 30%, cooldown increased from 10 seconds to 12.
  • Whirling Death: Updated visual effects.


Runes



  • Skipping a rune no longer grants a random tome.
  • Rework - Grasping Vines (Harvest) (previously Strangle): Each enemy grants you 0.3 bonus life regeneration and 0.5 bonus mana regeneration while rooted by this spell.
  • Apparition (Raiju): Changed area of effect visuals.
  • Black Hole (Supernova): Damage reduced from 500% of power to 400%.
  • Burst (Demolition): Number of bubbles reduced from 10 to 8, cooldown increased from 4 seconds to 5.
  • Dragon's Breath (Wildfire): Damage increased from 700% of power to 720%, channel duration reduced from 0.83-1.83 seconds to 0.5-1.5, changed fully charged sound effect to be more noticeable.
  • Lava Chakram (Nimbus): Damage reduced from 110% of power to 70%.
  • Solar Beam (Overheat): Bonus attack speed reduced from 40% to 30%, bonus move speed increased from 60% to 70%, added sound effect upon gaining the overheat effect.
  • Stone Skin (Crash): Stun radius increased from 2.5 tiles to 3.5.


Emblems



  • Arcane Invocation: Bonus resistances reduced from 9 to 4 per stack, no longer grants bonus cooldown speed for 7 seconds (stacks up to 5 times).
  • Adrenaline: Now grants 4 bonus power and 4% bonus attack speed per stack, no longer grants bonus move speed or bonus resistances.
  • Affinity Emblems: Damage bonus reduced from 15/30% to 10/20%.
  • Aftershock: Now deals (30% enemy max. life) lightning damage after a brief delay or (5% enemy max. life) damage to bosses.
  • Agony’s Insight: Cooldown timer reduction reduced from 1.5 seconds to 1.
  • Avatar: Cycle interval reduced from 6 seconds to 5, bonus damage increased from 25% to 40%, now reduces the damage of other elements by 30%.

  • Enlightened: Bonus power increased from flat 15 to 15%, grants 20 bonus resistances instead of granting evasion, changed emblem icon.
  • Entropy: Damage per second increased from 600% of life regeneration to 10x, damage ticks per second increased from 1 to 2, no longer plays non-critical hit damage sounds, radius effect improved.
  • Essence Shift: Heal reduced from 18% of mana spent to 10%.
  • Fairy Ring: Bonus life regeneration reduced from 6 to 4.
  • Fire Invocation: Bonus critical strike chance increased from 2.5% per stack to 3%, bonus critical strike damage increased from 5% per stack to 6%.

  • Levitation: You now start moving at maximum speed.

  • Overachiever: Damage bonus increased from 20% to 25%.
  • Patience: Instead grants 5/15/30 bonus power and 15/30/50% cooldown speed for 2/3/4 equipped cooldown spells respectively.
  • Potion Master: Changed emblem icon.
  • Psychic Scream: Now fears instead of stuns enemies, damage threshold increased from 50 to 60, duration increased from 1.5 seconds to 2.
  • Sharpshooter: Damage bonus reduced from 25/50% to 15/25%.
  • Simplicity: Damage bonus reduced from 20/40% to 10/20%.
  • Sumo: Now deals (250% max. life) damage.

Enemies



  • Enemy projectiles now have damage scaling based on distance traversed, dealing less damage at close range.
  • Poison trails left by Toxic Elites (green) are now broken up randomly.
  • Bloat: Base life and move speed increased.
  • Fly: Attack range increased.
  • Giant Frog: Base power reduced, poison cone angle and duration reduced.
  • Giant Rat: Can no longer be staggered while attacking, base life increased.
  • Spinner: Move speed and acceleration increased.
  • Vulture: Move speed, acceleration, and turn rate increased.


Other



  • Challenge system has been trimmed to 4 challenge levels: (i) elite enemies, (ii) stronger enemies, (iii) invasions, and (iv) arenas evolve. (I want the vast majority of challenge levels to be novel gameplay changes to avoid artificially inflating the longevity of the game, especially since challenge levels are unlocked separately for each playable character.)
  • Previous "bigger waves" challenge level is now included in all runs by default.
  • Effects of the previous "tougher enemies" and "stronger enemies" challenge levels have been combined into a single challenge level.
  • Flat stat modifiers are now applied before multiplicative stat modifiers.
  • Emblems, spells, and runes can no longer reroll into a choice that has already been seen this round.
  • Choice altar collision and spacing has been changed to reduce instances where players would accidentally bounce off and choose the wrong reward.
  • Added third-party assets to the credits menu (i.e. GameMaker plugins by JujuAdams).
  • Mouse cursor is now locked to game while in fullscreen, preventing players with multiple monitors from accidentally clicking out of the game.
  • Tome - Critical Strike Chance: Bonus increased from 3% to 5%.
  • Tome - Critical Strike Damage: Bonus increased from 8% to 15%.
  • Tome - Life Regeneration: Bonus reduced from 1.1 to 1.
  • Tome - Maximum Life: Bonus reduced from 10 to 8.

Bug Fixes



  • FIxed bug where enemies immune to incapacitate effects (stun, fear, root) could be incapacitated by certain spells and emblem effects.
  • FIxed bug where player stat descriptions could be seen while the stat panel was hidden.
  • Fixed bug where the descriptions for spells in the unlockable unlocked presentation would include a rune description.
  • Fixed bug where Lava Chakram (Nimbus) was dealing the same fire damage instead of increased lightning damage.

Spell Rune Update



Hi everyone! FIrst of all, I'd like to apologize for the delay in getting this update out and thank you for your patience. It took longer than expected to design and implement all the spell runes but I also experienced some burnout due to feeling extremely unmotivated and stressed at my day job while feeling overwhelmed by feedback on Neophyte. This is my first commercial release and I'm still learning how to support a game, which includes community management and implementing feedback. Please note that I read pretty much all of your feedback (especially if it's on my discord server which I check regularly) but I am terrible at replying.

I have come to an agreement with my boss whereby I will be spending less time at the office so I can have dedicate more time towards game dev. I plan to have more frequent updates leading up to the v1.0 release.

New



  • Spell Rune System: During runs, you now choose runes from the choice altars that change how a specific spell works (max. 1 per spell). The first rune draft occurs at level 4, and then every 2 levels thereafter.
  • Challenge Level 7 - Arenas Evolve: After completing the first 2 rounds of combat in an arena, it gains a random hazard specific to that arena.
  • Stat panel can be moused over for additional information.
  • Emblem - Hubris: As long as you have no basic spells equipped, you have 45% bonus cooldown speed and your spells deal 20% more damage.
  • Emblem - Meditate: After standing still and not casting any spells for 1 second, you gain 6 bonus life regeneration for 5 seconds.
  • Emblem - Tumbler: Evading damage by dashing restores 15% of your life and 20% of your mana and refreshes your dash cooldown. This effect refreshes after 2 seconds.
  • Enemy - Screecher: Flies around the player launching piercing sound waves.


Emblems



  • Reduced the maximum rank for all “Affinity” emblems from 3 to 2.
  • Reduced the maximum rank for all “Blessing” emblems from 2 to 1.
  • Renamed the 3 “Elemental” emblems to “Invocation”, improved their emblem icons.
  • Agony’s Insight: Damage threshold reduced from 30 to 20, cooldown reduction reduced from 2.5 seconds to 1.5.
  • Blessing of Haste: Speed bonus increased from 0.8 tiles per second to 1.5.
  • Blessing of Power: Bonus power increased from 12 to 14.
  • Dark Thirst: Mana restore changed from 2% of max. mana to 1%.

  • Sharpshooter: Maximum damage bonus increased from 20% to 25%, maximum bonus range threshold reduced from 12 tiles to 10.
  • Time Leak: Cooldown timer reduction reduced from 5 seconds to 2.5.


Enemies



  • Base maximum life bonus per level for all enemies increased from 6 to 8.
  • Reduced the move speeds and increased the attack cooldowns for most enemies.
  • Catacombs arena enemy types all appear earlier (e.g. skeleton archers now appear on level 1).
  • Clock Room enemies can spawn closer to the player.
  • Changed how enemy pathfinding works which should increase performance.
  • Elites: Maximum life bonus reduced from 40% to 20%, flat maximum life bonus increased from 200 to 350, power bonus reduced from 60% to 50%.
  • Rework - Clockwork Golem (previously Beholder): Same laser attack but on a clock-tick based cooldown, now has jumping movement and longer moves while attacking.
  • Rework - Giant Frog (previously Mutant): Now has jumping movement and spits a cone of poison that lingers for brief duration.
  • Rework - Vulture (previously Construct): Now extends a damaging pitchfork towards the direction of movement instead of dealing contact damage, making it safer for the player to attack with melee spells.
  • Clockwork Cannon: Appears less often and later in the Clock Room, base life increased, base power increased, missile damage radius increased, attack cooldown reduced.
  • Clockwork Soldier: Can now attack the player at any time they are in range instead of on clock-tick only, attack lunge range reduced.
  • Skeleton Archer: Player follow range reduced.
  • Spinner: Maximum move speed while spinning increased.


Player



  • Melee/ranged resistances: Now grants (100 / (100 + Resistance))% damage reduction instead of a flat % damage reduction, similar to other games such as League of Legends. This allows resistances to be uncapped with diminishing returns.


Spells



  • Adjusted mana costs and cooldowns of most spells.
  • Base player power increased from 70 to 100 and all basic/primary spell damage power factors have been lowered accordingly to keep their starting damage roughly the same. [This effectively buffs all expert damage spells while reducing the power scaling of basic/primary spells.]
  • Updated all spell descriptions.
  • Rework - Dragon’s Breath (previously Acid Fire): No longer ignites enemies but applies a heavy knockback.
  • Rework - Force Wall (previously Earth Wall): Now summons pillars of energy that repel enemies more consistently. The player can now freely move in between the pillars without colliding.
  • Rework - Starfall (previously Shooting Star): You gain a marker that orbits you at fixed distance. Casting summons a star that crashes down on the marker's position after a brief delay, dealing arcane damage to enemies in an area.
  • Rework - Storm Spear (previously Storm Bow): Visual rework, the mechanics of the spell remain unchanged except range is now infinite.
  • Apparition: Damage increased from 75% of power to 90%.
  • Black Hole: No longer deals damage, mana cost reduced from 50 to 30, improved radius effect.
  • Drain Soul: Now grants you 3% bonus maximum life per enemy for 7 seconds instead of healing, radius reduced from 4 tiles to 3.5.
  • Electric Field: Damage increased from 60% of power per second to 110%, radius increased from 5 tiles to 7, mana cost reduced from 40 to 30, duration reduced from 6 seconds to 5.
  • Grasping Vines: Range increased from 14 tiles to 18, duration increased from 5 seconds to 6.
  • Invigorate: Now grants a flat 30% attack speed bonus and a 60% maximum mana bonus for 6.5 seconds.
  • Lava Chakram: Danage increased from 70% of power to 75%, mana cost reduced from 30 to 26.
  • Power Fist: Changed colour of effects to blue to better match other lightning spells/effects.
  • Solar Beam: Maximum damage increased from 520% of power per second to 550%.
  • Static Discharge: Damage increased from 600% of power to 780%, damage radius reduced from 6 tiles to 5.5.
  • Whirling Death: Mana cost reduced from 25 to 22.


Other



  • All arenas are larger.
  • Poison now deals damage based on current life instead of maximum life, added a unique poision damage sound, improved status effect icon and visual effects.
  • Challenge Level VI - Invasions: A banner message now appears when the invasion portal spawns.
  • Tome - Cooldown Speed: Bonus increased from 12% to 20%.
  • Tome - Power: Bonus power increased from 4 to 5.
  • Spell runes can now be viewed in the hub room spell encyclopedia. Use left click and right click on a spell page to switch runes.
  • Knockback effects all characters more.
  • Reroll altar sprite updated.

Bug Fixes



  • Changed how the save system works which should prevent a rare bug that caused the save file to be erased.
  • Changed how dashing works which should fix a bug where the player became immune to all damage (even after restarting the run).
  • Fixed a bug that would allow certain cooldown spells to be recast while already active if the cooldown timer was reduced to zero via cooldown reducing emblems such as Time Leak and Agony’s Insight.
