Beta - v0.1.00d Patch Notes

IMPORTANT: This update includes changes to how saving works in an attempt to prevent rare instances where save files became corrupted, but it's possible that these changes may affect your existing save file. Enemies



  • Bonus base life per level reduced from 10 to 8 for all enemies.
  • Giant Frog: Attack sound added.


Emblems



  • Blessing of Power: Bonus power increased from 12 to 14.
  • Emergency Supply: Minor healing potions created by this emblem now only last for 6 seconds.


Spells



  • Base player power increased from 70 to 100 and all basic/primary spell damage power factors have been lowered accordingly to keep their starting damage roughly the same. [This effectively buffs all expert damage spells while reducing the power scaling of basic/primary spells.]
  • Mana cost of all expert spells increased.
  • Cooldown for most expert/defensive spells increased.
  • Various rune descriptions updated for clarity.
  • Dragon's Breath (Wildfire): Damage increased from 650% power to 700%.
  • Drain Soul (Masochism): Damage threshold increased from 50 to 80, refresh duration increased from 3 seconds to 3.5, now triggers on-cast effects.
  • Invigorate (Stimulant): Bonus attack speed increased from 40% to 45%.


Other



  • Save data is now encoded again (as it was pre v0.1.00a).
  • Challenge Level VII: Number of Sonic Turrets that spawn in the Catacombs increased from 2 to 4, added the second hazard to the Clock Room (Blade Turrets), added sounds for Rail Blades in the Sewers, added sounds for Tesla Coils in the Clock Room.
  • Tome - Power: Bonus power increased from 4 to 5.


Bug Fixes



  • Fixed bug where Hubris emblem was not registered as an unlockable.
  • Fixed bug where Electric Field spell would crash the game on cast if certain other spells/runes/emblems were equipped.
  • Fixed bug where Starfall (Barrage) spell triggered mana costs and on-cast effects multiple times.
  • Fixed bug where the Stone Skin spell's shield health would grow indefinitely when damaged.

Bug Fixes



  • Fixed bug where data was not being saved (introduced in v0.1.00b).
  • Fixed bug where cooldown reduction was being displayed incorrectly in the player stat panel for cooldown speed.
  • Fixed bug where Black Hole spell was incorrectly labelled as an arcane spell.
  • Fixed bug where Static Discharge (Automatic) spell crashed the game upon use (introduced in v0.1.00b).
  • Fixed bug where Clockwork Golem enemies weren't moving.

Enemies



  • Base maximum life bonus per level for all enemies increased from 6 to 10.


Emblems



  • Blessing of Haste: Speed bonus increased from 0.8 tiles per second to 1.5.
  • Tumbler: Heal increased from 10% of maximum life to 15%, effect now has a 2 second cooldown.


Spells



  • Rework - Chain Lightning (Amplify, previously Infuse): This spell now deals (120% power) arcane damage but casts increases the damage of the next cast by 30% for up to 1 second (stacks up to 4 times). Casting any other spell removes all stacks.
  • Invigorate: Attack speed bonus increased from 25% to 30%, maximum mana bonus reduced from 100% to 60%, duration increased from 6 seconds to 6.5.
  • Solar Beam (Prism): Beam range reduced from 4 tiles to 3.
  • Storm Spear (Ricochet): Damage reduced from 40-130% of power to 30-110%, damage bonus per bounce reduced from 20% to 15%.
  • Whirling Death (Pirouette): Instead casts spell whenever the player dashes, damage is no longer reduced.


Other



  • Runes can now be viewed in the hub room spell encyclopedia. Use left click and right click on a spell page to switch runes.
  • Hazard - Arrow Turrets (Sewers): Fire rate greatly decreased, only half of all turrets fire each volley.
  • Further changed how saving works in an attempt to prevent rare save file erasure/loss.


Bug Fixes



  • Fixed bug where Burst (Demolition) would trigger on-cast effects (e.g. Time Leak emblem) multiple times.
  • Fixed bug where Stone Skin (Trample) was dealing less damage while casting.
  • Fixed bug where Stone Skin (Trample) was dealing damage every frame and causing the screen to shake aggressively while moving and channeling with the Levitation emblem equipped.
  • Fixed bug where Hunter's Dash emblem was not applying damage bonus to Whirling Death (Pirouette) dashes.
  • Fixed bug where Repear emblem was not applying resistances penalties.

New



  • Spell Rune System: During runs, you now choose runes from the choice altars that change how a specific spell works. Only 1 rune can be equipped to each spell.
  • Challenge Level 7 - Arenas Evolve: After completing 2 rounds of combat in an arena, it gains a random hazard. [Note: Some sound effects for hazards are currently missing and the second possible hazard for the Clock Room has not yet been added. These will be added before this patch is out of beta.]
  • Stat panel can be moused over for additional information.
  • Emblem - Hubris: As long as you have no basic spells equipped, you have 45% bonus cooldown speed and your spells deal 20% more damage.
  • Emblem - Meditate: After standing still and not casting any spells for 1 second, you gain 6 bonus life regeneration for 5 seconds.
  • Emblem - Tumbler: Evading damage by dashing restores 10% of your life and 20% of your mana and refreshes your dash cooldown.
  • Enemy - Screecher: Flies around the player launching piercing sound waves.


Enemies



  • Reduced the move speeds and increased the attack cooldowns for most enemies.
  • Catacombs arena enemy types all appear earlier (e.g. skeleton archers now appear on level 1).
  • Clock Room enemies can spawn closer to the player.
  • Changed how enemy pathfinding works which should increase performance.
  • Elites: Maximum life bonus reduced from 40% to 20%, flat maximum life bonus increased from 200 to 350, power bonus reduced from 60% to 50%.
  • Rework - Clockwork Golem (previously Beholder): Same laser attack but on a clock-tick based cooldown, now has jumping movement and longer moves while attacking.
  • Rework - Giant Frog (previously Mutant): Now has jumping movement and spits a cone of poison that lingers for brief duration.
  • Rework - Vulture (previously Construct): Now extends a damaging pitchfork towards the direction of movement instead of dealing contact damage, making it safer for the player to attack with melee spells.
  • Clockwork Cannon: Appears less often and later in the Clock Room, base life increased from 600 to 700, base power increased from 25 to 32, attack cooldown reduced from 5 clock ticks to 4.
  • Clockwork Soldier: Can now attack the player at any time they are in range instead of on clock-tick only, attack lunge range reduced.
  • Skeleton Archer: Player follow range reduced.


Emblems



  • Reduced the maximum rank for all “Affinity” emblems from 3 to 2.
  • Reduced the maximum rank for all “Blessing” emblems from 2 to 1.
  • Renamed the 3 “Elemental” emblems to “Invocation”, improved their emblem icons.
  • Agony’s Insight: Damage threshold reduced from 30 to 20, cooldown reduction reduced from 2.5 seconds to 1.5.
  • Patience: Instead grants bonuses based on the number of cooldown spells equipped: +15 resistances for 1 spell, +30% move speed for 2 spells, +50% cooldown speed for 3 spells, and +40 power for 4 spells.
  • Sharpshooter: Maximum damage bonus increased from 20% to 25%, maximum bonus range threshold reduced from 12 tiles to 10.
  • Time Leak: Cooldown timer reduction reduced from 5 seconds to 2.5.


Player



  • Melee/ranged resistances: Now grants (100 / (100 + Resistance))% damage reduction instead of a flat % damage reduction, similar to other games such as League of Legends. This allows resistances to be uncapped with diminishing returns.


Spells



  • Significantly reduced the cooldowns of most spells.
  • Updated all spell descriptions.
  • Rework - Dragon’s Breath (previously Acid Fire): No longer ignites enemies but applies a heavy knockback.
  • Rework - Force Wall (previously Earth Wall): Now summons pillars of energy that repel enemies more consistently. The player can now freely move in between the pillars without colliding.
  • Rework - Starfall (previously Shooting Star): You gain a marker that orbits you at fixed distance. Casting summons a star that crashes down on the marker's position after a brief delay, dealing arcane damage to enemies in an area.
  • Rework - Storm Spear (previously Storm Bow): Visual rework, the mechanics of the spell remain unchanged except range is now infinite.
  • Apparition: Damage increased from 75% of power to 90%.
  • Black Hole: No longer deals damage, mana cost reduced from 50 to 30, improved radius effect.
  • Drain Soul: Now grants you 3% bonus maximum life per enemy for 7 seconds instead of healing, radius reduced from 4 tiles to 3.5.
  • Electric Field: Damage increased from 60% of power per second to 110%, radius increased from 5 tiles to 7, mana cost reduced from 40 to 30, duration reduced from 6 seconds to 5.
  • Grasping Vines: Range increased from 14 tiles to 18, duration increased from 5 seconds to 6.
  • Invigorate: Now grants a flat 25% attack speed bonus and a 100% maximum mana bonus for 4 seconds.
  • Lava Chakram: Danage increased from 70% of power to 75%, mana cost reduced from 30 to 26.
  • Power Fist: Changed colour of effects to blue to better match other lightning spells/effects.
  • Solar Beam: Maximum damage increased from 520% of power per second to 550%.
  • Static Discharge: Damage increased from 600% of power to 780%, damage radius reduced from 6 tiles to 5.5.
  • Whirling Death: Mana cost reduced from 25 to 22.


Tomes



  • Cooldown speed: Bonus increased from 12% to 20%.


Other



  • All arenas are larger.
  • Poison now deals damage based on current life instead of maximum life, added a unique poision damage sound, improved status effect icon and visual effects.
  • Knockback effects all characters more.
  • Reroll altar sprite updated.
  • Object spawn effect updated.


Bug Fixes



  • Changed how the save system works which should prevent a rare bug that caused the save file to be corrupted.
  • Changed how dashing works which should fix a bug where the player became immune to all damage (even after restarting the run).
  • Fixed a bug that would allow certain cooldown spells to be recast while already active if the cooldown timer was reduced to zero via cooldown reducing emblems such as Time Leak and Agony’s Insight.

v0.0.20 Patch Notes

Hi everyone! This patch was somewhat delayed, mainly due to the addition and removal of a Victory Laps/Endless Mode feature. What was meant to be a little optional feature turned out to be quite contentious within the beta testing community and I also wasn't happy with either implementation. It felt like an unsatisfying band-aid fix to stretch out the game until more content could be added. Rather than continuing to try to make it work, I think it's best if the idea is shelved so I can focus on adding more content. I may revisit Endless Mode/Victory Laps in the future.

I also spent some time revamping various systems in anticipation of the upcoming spell rune system (see the pinned "Planned Features" thread in the Steam community discussions section or Regal Pigeon Discord for more information) which is necessary but, for now, has no impact on gameplay.

  • Challenge Level 6 - Invasions: Midway through each round of combat, a portal appears at a random position that spawns enemies from a different arena.
  • New Emblem - Reckless Strike: Your basic spells drain 4% of your current life to deal bonus damage equal to 300% of that amount. Casting basic spells also grants you 1 bonus life regeneration for 5 seconds (stacks up to 5 times).
  • New Emblem - Overgrowth: The next damage spell you cast roots enemies hit for 4 seconds. Each enemy can only be rooted in this way once per spell cast. This effect refreshes after 6 seconds.

  • Elites - Illusionist (blue): Number of illusions spawned reduced from 4 to 2, illusion life increased from 35% of original to 40%, illusion power increased from 25% of original to 30%, illusion duration reduced from 8 seconds to 7.
  • Elites - Toxic (green): Poison puddle spawn distance interval increased from 0.35 tiles to 0.5.
  • Bloat: Base life increased from 170 to 220.
  • Skeleton: Base life increased from 160 to 200.

  • Unlockable Feature - Endless Mode (changed from Victory Laps): After beating the final boss, a second trophy appears. Interacting with it starts endless mode in which you face infinite waves of increasingly powerful enemies from any arena until you inevitably perish. See how far your build can take you!
  • Fixed bug where poison trails/puddles were being drawn under the clock face in the Clock Room, making them invisible to the player.

Beta - v0.0.20a Patch Notes

New



  • Unlockable Feature - Victory Laps: After beating the final boss, a victory lap trophy will spawn in addition to the regular trophy. Interacting with it will open a portal to the first arena, starting the run over while retaining all collected spells, emblems, and tome stat bonuses, but enemies retain their life and power scaling and will continue to scale. The player will gain no additional rewards during victory laps.
  • Challenge Level 6 - Invasions: Midway through each round of combat, a portal appears at a random position that spawns enemies from a different arena.
