The "Service Unavailable" Problem

Hi all!

Some users trying to play Online Games have been reporting that they are getting the "Service Unavailable" at random moments. This problem seems to have been getting worse in the last week.

We have been investigating this problem. Our service provider doesn't see anything specific from their side that could be disconnecting players. The only thing that we can think of is that it has something to do with the Covid-19 Quarantine situation in Europe. People all around are having problems keeping connections to services as their internet providers are flooded with traffic. You can read more about it here: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-12/housebound-italian-kids-strain-network-with-fortnite-marathon

However, as we have been routing most people through Europe to not separate our player base, we have decided to try to route them through America instead. We don't know what effect it will have, but hope it will solve the situation for some. Please let us know if it has positive or negative effect on you.

We are super sorry that our users are dealing with this. We will keep investigating and try to figure out if there are more ways we can keep you connected!

Update 1.1 - The Transportation Update

Last few months have been pretty crazy for us at the office. Not only have we added some new features to the game but we've also got cross-platform support up and running. You can head over here to see what new platforms we've expanded to.

Furthermore No Time to Relax has been selected to the PAX East Indie Showcase. We'll be there with a booth so drop by, say hello and pick up some schwag if you are attending PAX!

Now let's get to the updated and changes!

New Features

  • Cross-Platform: Game is now running on a new and different network than before. We made this migration to offer and support cross-platform play between PC and consoles. Head on over here to our web page to see what platforms we expanded into.
  • Japanese: Game is now enjoyable in Japanese! We recommend you try it out, even if you don’t speak the language!
  • Transport: Tired of walking everywhere you go? Visit VexCorp™ and purchase one of their patented transportation technologies. You can get lifetime access to the town’s Vexportation networks, a lifestyle VexScooter™ or the Nikola™ Electric Vehicle. Spend less time getting around and spend your time on things that matter.
  • Weekend Cards: Added new transport themed weekend cards.
  • VexPhone: VexCorp made history this year when they introduced the VexPhone, the world’s first “smart” phone. It comes equipped with an intuitive touch screen and the most powerful antenna ever put on a phone. This phone allows you pay with items using the money in your bank account. Being in constant contact with your broker is also a sure way to increase any profits you get from your investments.
  • Investments: Investments have been buffed to make them more appealing. When you make money off investments you now multiply your profit (but not losses). If you own a VexPhone your multiplier is increased even further!
  • Time Limits: Time Limits introduced! Do your friends take forever to finish their week? We’ve introduced optional time limits when creating a game. You can choose from Unlimited, 120 seconds, 60 seconds or nerve racking 30 seconds. Available in online and local play.
  • AI Pet bug: Fixed bug where AI pets could not die from starvation.
  • Resolution fixes: Fixed how screen resolution is handled in game. We’ve fixed it so the game in now playable in Fullscreen, Windowed and Windowed Fullscreen. Support for all kinds of weird and exotic screen ratios now included. Also fixed bug where wrong items were selected in the graphics menu.
  • Code Invites: Added the ability to invite people to online games using a four-letter code. This is especially useful when playing cross platform private matches. (not available in all regions)
  • Zombie bug: Zombie muggers can no longer steal the money you get from your aunt.
  • Retina Support: Added retina support for Mac.
  • Bug fixes and polish: Finally, we found and fixed a lot of small bugs and did a lot of polishing here and there

We've been working hard on this update and hope you enjoy it!

A small teaser for 2020

Update 1.0.6 Network fixes

Network changes rollback

We got some feedback from users that the new network code we implemented was causing them to be disconnecting quite frequently.

We decided to do a rollback on some of these network changes and will re-implement these changes at a later date.

Things should work as they did before. Let us know if you run into any trouble!

Update 1.0.5 - Halloween!

The Porcelain Fortress team went to London to present our game at EGX. We had a great old time, ate a lot of curries and met a bunch of awesome people.

So, what do we have for you now? Let me tell you.

Game skin foundations

We've built the foundations to re-skin the game completely. This allows us to swap out characters, building and just about everything with but a single click. This allowed us to present you with a super spooky Halloween theme!

Halloween Theme

The quiet town of No Time to Relax has been brought to an unknown outer realm! The town has been re-skinned with a spooky, spooky skin and our merry band of Avatars have donned their Halloween costumes. Their starting clothes have been swapped out for a more festive suit. If you wish to escape the horror dimension you can enable the old skin in the Gameplay Settings.

Cross-Platform Multiplayer

We have been re-working our network code to support cross-platform multiplayer once we launch the game on more platforms. We've tested it extensively and it should be as good as the old one. If you run into bugs please let us know!

Optimization

The game should be much faster to load now and run more smoothly across all devices. We've been doing some much-needed optimization work because of the Switch version and this is the fruit of that labor.

New Mission Icons

The Newspaper now has new icons for the different types of missions. Sure to delight people of all ages!

Bug fixes

We sometimes find bugs and when we do, we fix them. This update features a bunch of bug fixes.

Finally

Finally, we ask that all you good people out there bear in mind that we are a very small studio based in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. We work tirelessly on this game and we are trying to make it all work out. There will be more features in due time. Forgive us being late in delivering some of the requested features.

Until next time! Peace, out!

Porting and Egx London

Hi everyone!
Over the last weeks we have been working on porting No Time to Relax to the Nintendo Switch and it has been going great!
To make that possible we have to rework our network code and go with another provider that can also work as a base for our cross-platform play in the future.

While we have been porting the game to Nintendo Switch we have also been going under the hood and optimized the game a lot on the PC/Mac side as well.

Right now we are packing up and getting ready for Egx London, where we will man our booth and hopefully meet some of you!

Next week we will be posting an update with some surprises for you all! Its going to a spooky one!

Love you all!
Best
Team Porcelain

Updates - Fonts overhaul and fixes

Hey all.

We are still going over feedback from the awesome people at Gamescom and of course our lovely people in the community. So here is yet another update with tweaks and fixes. This time it comes in form of two patches.

The former update (1.0.2) was focused towards making our fonts look better. We wen't over all the text in the game and changed to a higher resolution fonts for every language. Also we tweaked texts here and there to fit better for each language.

And the second update (1.0.3) has various fixes. Mostly making textures smoother. Also we made controllers work better when selecting buildings. And of course some good old bug squashing ;)

Update 1.0.2

  • Better font rendering for all languages.
  • Text tweaks here and there to better fit each language.

Update 1.0.3

  • Fixed some textures that were not rendering in native sizes.
  • Fixed that sometimes avatar skins could get corrupted.
  • Tweaked controller sensitivity when selecting buildings.
  • Few smaller bug fixes and tweaks.

Update 1.0.1 - Bug fixes and tweaks

Hello Everyone!

We came back home from Gamescom a week ago. We have been recouping after an awesome time there. A lot of people came by our booth and we had heaps of fun introducing the game to new people. We got some good and positive feedback! We want to say a big thanks to everyone that came by!

As before we are focusing on improving stability after the big update. We have gotten a few bug reports from the community and we are focusing on fixing those ASAP.

We also noticed few things from playing the game 10 hours a day for 5 days straight at Gamescom that we want to tweak and improve. E.g. instead of giving players equal score for tied or not finished missions, we now give all players 0 as the other way took too much time.

Here is our 1.0.1 update log...

Fixes

  • Player's no longer receive points for a mission if all players are tied.
  • Fixed drop down boxes sometimes getting stuck in the settings menu.
  • Fixed text not fitting into the main menu button on the end screen in some languages.
  • Fixed a bug where menus could overlap if creating a lobby failed.
  • Fixed overall sound levels.
  • Fixed a bug where the audio ambiance could sometimes stop when moving between menus.
  • Other smaller tweaks here and there.
