Kingdom-Crier #5: Bandits! and Steam Workshop

Oh hi. Welcome to Kingdom-Crier #5.

It's time to announce...

Bandits!

Noble Fates Feature Update #2

Some of the more nefarious Mortals have discovered that they can make a living in Noberia by robbing and stealing!

Keep them away from any loose belongings laying around. Give your visitors a safe place to sleep for the night so they aren't robbed blind.

Deal with the Bandits or they'll slap together a sketchy structure or eight on the edge of your lands to house all of their sweet loot.

Profit from their exploits or send them packing, it's your call!

Quests!

Mortals accosted by Bandits can now ask for help through the new Quest system! See that little exclamation point above their heads? You know what to do.

Decide if they're worthy of your time and choose how you want to handle their request. Do you pay the Bandits to get their stuff back, offer them something they deem of equal value in trade, or beat it out of them?!

Maybe you decide not to return that nice Steel Sword of Smithing now that it's in your hands. The choice is yours, the consequences are part of the fun!

Ramshackle Props!

We couldn't give the Bandits new Props to build with without making them available for your sweet setups.

The starter building tier is now Ramshackle. They offer fast and cheap shelter, but aren't worth much and might just fall down at the slightest glance from an enemy.

Steam Workshop!

We're excited to be launching the Noble Fates Steam Workshop with this update. Browse and Subscribe to the mods you're interested in right inside of Steam!

Manage them in-game through the new Mod Management interface. Modders - Upload or Update your mods with ease using the in-game tools.

Steam Cloud Saves!

We'll be hitting the big flashing red button to enable Steam Cloud Saves with this update!

Your Kingdoms will be there and waiting for you at whatever PC you find yourself at next.

Release Date

This update will be released in full on 4/4 at 10a PST.

Surprises

As with the Hospitality Update, there are additional surprises in store for launch day - so there will be new stuff for you even if you join the Experimental Beta!

Saves

The Bandits were just too powerful to be boxed in by existing save limitations, so this update will retire 0.24 saves.

As with the Hospitality Update, we'll spin up a retired_0_24 set of Steam Betas so that you can continue your 0.24 saves there or go back and visit them whenever you want.

Experimental Beta

We're dusting off the Experimental Beta branch to put the Bandits and new Steam features through their paces before releasing them more broadly. Saves from the new Experimental Beta will carry over when the full update releases.

You can participate by switching to the Experimental Beta on Steam. Join this Steam Group for access to the Noble Fates Workshop during the Experimental Beta period. Expect issues - but know that we appreciate you helping pave the way for a smooth launch!

EULA

In order to clearly state where the bounds are with modding and content creation around Noble Fates, we've codified the rules into a shiny new EULA. It’s intended to empower you and protect our assets.

Suffice it to say - you own the content that you create; you are allowed to monetize your videos and streams; you cannot sell mods; you may not require donations in exchange for access to mods; you may not solicit for donations in-game via a mod; you grant us the right to use your mods; you may reverse engineer the game to aid in mod development; you can't ship the game with your mod; don’t infringe on someone else’s copyright with your mods; and we have final say on what is allowed in mods.

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out!

What's new in Main?

We've been all in on this update and the Steam features, but there have been a few important fixes worth calling out:

Resolved the remaining crashes around conversations

Reworked foliage propagation to fill back in more of the maps

Kingdom-Crier #4: Customization, Roadmap Update, and Straw!

Welcome Kontras! This is Kingdom-Crier #4!

Herein you'll find info about the first bit of in-game Customization, updates to the roadmap, and today's new Content Update!

Customization

Last week we tackled the first bit of Noble and Kingdom Customization, allowing you to rename your Nobles, re-title your Ruler, rename your Kingdom, and even rename your lands. We took it even further allowing you to rename anyone who visits (including their Kingdom and Lands) to allow you to make your world your own! This has been nicely integrated into the intro - making it more streamlined than before.

Edit your Ruler and Kingdom during the Intro!

Edit your Kingdom and Others In-game!

We plan to do more here, but this should help open up the options for expressing yourself in-game.

Roadmap Update

With the customization above, we've wrapped up the initial wave of Hot Fixes that we've been tracking since launch!

In addition, we've released 7 Content Updates. We have several more in progress, and many more on the horizon.

We're also well underway with core work on the second of our eight planned Feature Updates.

Now that we're through the initial launch phase and the related Hotfixes, we're going to maintain and surface a list of the higher priority issues that we're aware of.

As you've likely noticed, the number of quick, hotfix updates have reduced so that we can sink our live support time into these meatier issues - but the result will be juicy patches like today's which addressed outstanding QOL issues around Prisoner and Tame management.

These fixes went well with a Content Update that we had in the pipe, so we included that too!

Content Update 7: Straw!

Chopping down Dense Grass now yields Straw

Straw is now used to build Straw Roofs and Straw Beds as you'd expect.

Straw can also be used to feed Tames who aren't able to feed themselves by grazing!
