Nobody Saves the World
Happy Holidays from Drinkbox Studios
Happy Holidays! 2023 was a relatively quiet year for us as we’ve been heads-down, working on some new ideas… but we still wanted to share some highlights from the past year!
In January we released a free update for Nobody Saves the World which featured Magic Jimmy’s Impossible Dungeon and a new unlockable Dinosaur form. We were overwhelmed with the positive response to this update and loved seeing photos of your statue gardens!
This year we added some new members to our team including 3D Technical Artist Greg and Junior Programmer Fred. We also welcomed back Animator and Artist Matheus who worked with us on Nobody Saves the World!
Speaking of our team, here are some of their favourite games played in 2023:
Cass: Nioh, Dragon's Dogma, Remnant 2
Fred: Paradise Marsh, Risk of Rain Returns, Plate Up
Gabby: Zelda TOTK, Baldur’s Gate 3, Dave the Diver, Slay the Princess
Graham: Baldur's Gate 3, Zelda TOTK, Mario Wonder
Greg: Lethal Company
Ian: Time Crisis 4, Cobalt Core, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days
Steele: Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, Victoria 3, RimWorld
Vlad: Counter-Strike 2, Squad, Spider-Man 2, Armored Core VI
Here are some highlights from the past year:
🥇 Nobody Saves the World was nominated for a bunch of awards, including the Canadian Screen Awards, Canadian Game Awards, and Webby Awards. We didn’t win any of these, buuuuut…
🏆 Jim Guthrie won the Screen Composers Guild of Canada award for “Best Original Score for Games and Interactive Media” for the Nobody Saves the World soundtrack!
💿 Jim also released the Nobody Saves the World soundtrack on a beautiful double vinyl
💖 We partnered with Limited Run Games to release physical versions of Nobody Saves the World, Severed, and Mutant Blobs Attack (which sold out almost immediately!)
Over this past year we’ve been busy prototyping new stuff, playing with new ideas and styles. We’ve landed on something the whole team is very excited about, something completely new to us that we hope you’ll be excited about too.
We can’t wait to share more when we can, but in the meantime here’s a lil sneaky peek ^

Plushie ???
In other news, we’re planning to have a plushie made for the best form in Nobody Saves the World, BUT, what is the best form? We were hoping we could get your help in answering that question!
Below is how the votes are going so far. Head to our Discord to vote for your favourite form and change these numbers! The top pick might just make an appearance IRL sometime soon…
15th Anniversary!
It’s really hard for us to believe, but April 15th is Drinkbox’s 15th anniversary as a game development studio! This is a huge milestone we’re very proud of, and we couldn’t have made it here without all your support over the years. Thank you to you all!

Impossible Dungeon Update
“IMPOSSIBLE DUNGEON” UPDATE NOTES:
- New Dungeon: A carnival themed "endless" dungeon which challenges players to quickly complete increasingly difficult floors under time pressure - Doing well in the dungeon rewards players with "tickets" which can be spent to build a large statue containing all of the game's forms - New "Dino" form, with all new abilities and quests, unlocked by playing the Impossible Dungeon. The Dino form encourages players to swap between different damage types in order to gain damage boosting effects
ADDITIONAL BUG FIXES:
- Gates at the start of the Frozen Hearth area could incorrectly close behind players - Using Slime Slide twice quickly in succession could incorrectly make the starting puddle a damage zone - Health leech was not being calculated correctly for some abilities when in a dungeon with the x9999 damage mod - “0 mana required” modifier was not allowing some abilities to be performed when the player had 0 mana - Some enemies would not be hit by turrets projectiles when projectiles were fired at certain angles - Mechanic's leg animations could break when using arrow flurry - Players could sometimes get stuck behind a rock in the Whackamelee! challenge room - Summoning demons from turret deaths did not count towards the Necromancer's "Custom II: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" quest - Frozen Hearth level load screen was not properly centered - Fixed issues with using some wireless / bluetooth controllers to play the game
Impossible Dungeon Update OUT NOW!
Today is Nobody Saves the World’s first anniversary! To celebrate, we’re releasing a brand-new Impossible Dungeon update, out today for FREE!
The update introduces a new carnival themed “endless” dungeon and a new Dinosaur form you can unlock by playing through the Impossible Dungeon.
Step right up, and see if you’ve got what it takes to brave the challenges of Magic Jimmy’s Impossible Dungeon! Tucked away in a corner of the Alchemist’s Gorge area, players can test their skills on several floors of increasingly tough combat challenges while racing against the clock to try and get through each challenge as quickly as possible. This mode is perfect for Nobody Saves the World players who are looking for an endless combat challenge and a space to test new form combinations.
Conquer the Impossible Dungeon, and be rewarded with the magical Dino Plushy that unlocks the new Dinosaur form! As with all other forms, the Dino comes with its own unique abilities and quests, and can be used throughout the entire game. Doing well in the dungeon will also reward players with tickets that can be used to build a commemorative statue of all the game’s forms.
Thanks for all your support for Nobody Saves the World! This last year has been an amazing ride, and we couldn’t have done it without you. We hope you enjoy this new update!

Drinkbox Studios 2022 year in review!
Happy Holidays! 2022 was an eventful year for us, and we wanted to take a moment to reflect on it and share some highlights.
Earlier this year we released our brand new game Nobody Saves the World. It was our most successful launch to date and we have been overwhelmed by the positive reception!
Nobody Saves the World has even been featured on a few Game of the Year lists!! We’re honoured to see it on these lists alongside so many of our favourites from this year:
Speaking of which, here are some of our team’s favourite games played in 2022:
Cass: Hypnospace Outlaw, Not For Broadcast, Grounded
Gabby: Elden Ring, Neon White, Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Graham: God of War Ragnarök, Elden Ring, Valheim, Tunic
Ian: Time Crisis 5, Deltarune, Neon White
Josh: Elden Ring, Neon White, Galaxy Trucker
Mike: Sifu, Bloodborne, Sekiro
Vlad: God of War Ragnarök, Horizon: Forbidden West, Jak II
We moved!
Remote work has changed the way our team collaborates, so we recently moved to a new office that is better suited to our new approach to working together (and we had a little pizza party to celebrate!). Much of the team will still be working from home moving forward, but people that want a work-in-progress-home-away-from-home now have a shiny new space to hang out in!
NSTW Vinyl
Back in September, Jim Guthrie successfully funded his vinyl campaign for the Nobody Saves the World soundtrack (featuring artwork by Drinkbox Art Director Augusto Quijano). We’re looking forward to getting these into your (and our) hands (and ear holes) in early 2023!
We’ve been working hard on something special for Nobody Saves the World (coming VERY SOON) as well as prototyping some other new stuff… we’re excited to share more about all of that when we can!!
Thank you for making Nobody Saves the World a very memorable launch and 2022 a great year overall for Drinkbox. We really couldn’t have done it without you and appreciate your support.
Happy Holidays, from your pals at Drinkbox Studios.
By the way, many of our games are ON SALE for the holiday season! These are some of the steepest discounts we’ve done all year, so it’s a great time to check them out:
