Patch 2 update Live!

Hey everyone!

The results from the public preview are looking pretty good, so today we're moving the newest version of the game from our Public Preview out to everyone.

Most players will see only good things with this patch. But we have noticed a rare occurance on some systems with integrated graphics - textures may get blurrier. This is the result of being safer about allocating texture memory, and the graphic system not reporting correctly. We’ll continue to investigate this.

Mac Kickstarter Backers on the Mac beta will see some changes - mostly good, some bad. Generally, the Mac performance has improved dramatically. Almost everyone should notice that. The bad news is that you may crash, or only see a black screen at startup. There are two steps to fix this. The first is to upgrade to MacOS Sierra which has fixes that Obduction requires. The second is to remove old shader cache files. Here are the steps to delete the old files:

• Go to the Finder (usually the first thing in your dock)
• Hold down shift + command + g
• Type (or copy and paste) this... ~/Library/Application Support/Epic/Obduction/Saved
• Click Go or push return
• Delete two files... ByteCodeCache.ushadercode and DrawCache.ushadercache

(If you don’t see those files then you did something wrong, or you don’t have Obduction installed.)

The list of changes and fixes from the Public Preview have stayed the same, but, if you missed them the first time around, here they are:

Global
• Fix for game icon not appearing in windows task bar in some conditions
• Fix for unsupported OS languages causing failed loading and empty menus
• Fixed some missing Backer Rewards messages
• Photos now have a slideshow option
• Photos previously taken should sort correctly
• Photos will now appear for users with foreign or special characters in their Windows user account name
• Backer reward items popup is now disabled by default in-game. This can still be enabled through the options menu

We've been working hard trying to make the game the best we can, and so we'd like to announce a new update being pushed out to our Public Preview release. This one has quite a few updates and fixes that should make the Obduction experience the best yet. As always however, this is a preview version, and may have unexpected issues.

For those not familiar with the public preview, it can be accessed by right-clicking the Obduction entry in your Steam games list, going to the 'BETAS' tab in the pop-up window, and selecting the entry 'publicpreview-'. You will get the update.

Edit for Update: For Mac users seeing a crash at startup, we're seeing older cached shader files seem to be causing the issue. We're working on a fix that will automatically remove old data, but for now, looks like the trick will be:

1. Open Finder, press "command+shift+g"

2. Type in ~/Library/application support/, press enter

3. Open Epic/Obduction/Saved

4. Delete ByteCodeCache.ushadercode & DrawCache.ushadercache

We've just pushed the button and moved our first big patch from the public beta to the normal release. We hope you enjoy it! Known issues in this release:

OS's with unsupported languages may see a missing menu hitting escape during gameplay

Photos and their ordering that were broken in previous builds may still appear broken

Windows user accounts with that contain foreign characters may not see their photos in the photo viewer. The photos will be available in the game's save directory.

Hot Fix

Known issues with unsupported languages:

We are aware of a known issue that seems to be related to default system OS languages that are not supported in Obduction. The current workaround is to open Obduction to the Start Menu, change your game language to any language different from the default English, load your saved game (or start a new game), push ESC, and then set the language back to English. (We hope to have this problem fixed in our next update -- coming soon.)

Public Preview now available!

Hey Obduction players,

We released a patch yesterday, and we had some reports of broken save files, which gave us a good scare. We reverted, and tried to figure out what happened. The result: we're unable to reproduce the issue in-house.

So in order to allow access to the most current version of the game and still be a bit careful about it, we've created a "Public Preview" beta section on Steam - open to everyone. This section will have the next update before it goes to the main section.

Anyone who has Obduction can join this Public Preview section to get a head-start on the upcoming fixes, and help us find any oddities that might have slipped by. We think our releases are pretty solid, BUT, there is always a possibility that using the updates in the Public Preview section may break your game, ruin your save, burn down your house, and put holes in your socks.

Still want to try?

The public preview can be accessed by right-clicking the Obduction entry in your Steam games list, going to the 'BETAS' tab in the pop-up window, and selecting the entry 'publicpreview-'. You will get the update. BUT, please be aware: There is a very slight possibility that this could break your save and disappoint your pets. Do not change to the public preview if you're in a critical spot in game or you have no idea what we’re talking about.

If you decide to join the Public Preview, we really want to hear from you. Tell us your experiences, ESPECIALLY anything you find broken after the update. Please toss us an email with any info on what you've run into at support@cyan.com. We might not get right back to you right away, but we promise, we're reading every single thing that comes in. Emergency Hotfix Rollback

Hey all,

As we've started receiving and catching reports of broken save files after our first hotfix was pushed earlier, we've rolled back the update for the time being just in case. Sorry about this, we're working hard to get the issue sorted as soon as possible, and get everyone back to the best Obduction experience possible!
