Scurrius Combat Achievements

You’ve had a week or so to familiarise yourself with the Varrock Sewers’ newest resident, so it’s time to up the challenge with a new selection of Combat Achievements!

Bear in mind that this encounter is designed for low to mid-level players, so our new Achievements only cover the Easy and Medium tiers. Here they are:

Easy

  • Scurrius Novice: Kill Scurrius once.
  • Sit Rat: Finish off Scurrius with a Rat Bone weapon in a private instance.

Medium

  • Scurrius Champion: Kill Scurrius 10 times.
  • Perfect Scurrius: Kill Scurrius in a private instance without taking damage from the following attacks: Tail Swipe and Falling Bricks. Pray correctly against the following attacks: Flying Fur and Bolts of Electricity.
  • Efficient Pest Control: Kill six Giant Rats within Scurrius' lair in three seconds.

If this is your first time trying the Combat Achievements, here are some tips:
  • You'll find all Combat Achievements in the Combat Tasks Completed section of your Character Overview panel.
  • Here you can see how many tasks you've completed, bosses you’ve killed, raids you’ve completed – and which ones you’ve beaten the most times!
  • Combat Achievements are broken down into tiers, ranging from Easy to Grandmaster.
  • Opening the menu in the Combat Achievements panel swaps your view between Overview, Tasks, Bosses and Rewards.
  • Combat Achievements will automatically trigger a completion pop-up and log it in your tracker.
  • Play around in the Combat Tasks Completed panel and narrow it down to Scurrius to keep an eye on your progress.

And that's it! For more news about Scurrius, you can read last week's newspost.

Scurrius, the Rat King | January 24th

Rodents of unusual size? I don’t think they exist. But just in case, let’s double-check the Varrock Sewers…

Changelog January 24th

[expand="more" type="show"]
Scurrius, the Rat King
  • Added Scurrius, the Rat King, a mid-level PvM boss lurking in Varrock Sewers.
  • Added Rat Bone weapons, which deal extra damage against rat-type enemies.
    • Rat Bone weapons require an untradeable Rat Spine to craft. This drop is obtainable from Scurrius.

Other Changes
  • Players who’ve lost Blood Runes due to last week’s Scythe changes will be able to reclaim them from the Vyre Well later this week.
  • Bank Placeholders for Coal will now be maintained when withdrawing all your Coal into your Coal Bag.
  • Arcane Scarabs now reliably render over Agile Scarabs.
  • Berry will no longer interrupt players with a chat box every time they enter the Woodcutting Guild.
  • Phoenix Necklaces, Mithril Seeds and Crushed Bird Nests can no longer be drop-traded in dangerous PvP areas like the Wilderness.

PvP Rota

The PvP rota has moved to Period A:
  • 539 - (US) - PvP World
  • 318 - (UK) - Bounty Hunter World
  • 548 - (Germany) - High-Risk PvP World
  • 577 - (US) - Free-to-Play PvP World
  • 559 - (UK) - LMS Competitive

World 390 (AUS) for LMS Competitive has been activated with this rota.

World 569 (AUS) for Bounty Hunter has been activated with this rota.

The PvP Arena is using 'Zerker' loadouts in Ranked Duels and Tournaments this week.

Scurrius, the Rat King

Something utterly horrible, an abomination beyond our wildest nightmares, is lurking in Varrock Sewers. It calls itself… Scurrius, the Rat King.

Got your attention? Then let’s learn a little more about this royal rodent!

https://youtu.be/Rz883esHO-U?si=dvDMQRFOq2cmjWSg

"Reading? No thanks!". If this sounds like you, check out the video above made by the wonderful OnlyTrails, or click here to watch it on YouTube!

This hulking behemoth of a beast is unlike any rat you’ve met before. Thanks to Scurrius’ mutated form, he’s capable of attacking with all three combat styles – perfect for mid-level players still getting to grips with Old School PvM.

Scurrius can be found east of the ladder in Varrock Sewers. If you’re struggling with your compass, just follow the rats – you can’t miss ‘em! Before entering the lair, you’ll be able to decide whether you’d like to go it alone or team up with friends. The boss is perfectly viable as a solo encounter, so your decision comes down to how confident you are with the mechanics!

This boss is aimed at level 60 players – so if you can wear Rune Armour, Mystic Robes, or Green Dragonhide, you’re more than ready to take Scurrius on. We recommend that would-be rat splatters also have protection Prayers to defend themselves against Scurrius’ mad combat skills.

Without giving too much away, this fight is intended to familiarise players with combat mechanics. While you should expect a challenge, you should still have plenty of time to take a deep breath, pick the right Prayer, and think about your strategy.

Rewards

So, aside from space to grow your combat skills, what else is in it for you? Primarily, Scurrius offers Experience, with a capital X...P… hmm.

The idea is that while you’re training your bossing skills, you’re also training your skills skills. Scurrius isn’t vulnerable to any particular combat style, so if you need to knuckle down and train Ranged, Magic, or Melee… this is the place to do it!

We expect training Scurrius to be one of the most effective ways to train Melee in particular, right up until the endgame. Our reasoning is that unlike traditional combat training methods like Nightmare Zone or Sand Crabs, Scurrius will require you to think on your feet and pay attention. Unlike Slayer, you’re not getting much out of the experience except for Combat XP – so it’s reasonable to boost those XP rates a little.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on things, and we’re ready to make adjustments if the community feels the rates are out of line.

We also have some more tangible loot on offer which will improve your combat capabilities against rats – including Scurrius himself!

If you’ve obtained an untradeable Rat Spine as a drop from this boss, you can turn it into a Rat Bone Bow (with a Yew Shortbow), Rat Bone Mace (with a Rune Mace), or Rat Bone Staff (with any Battlestaff and 1,000 Chaos Runes). You’ll need 35 Fletching for the Bow, 35 Smithing for the Mace, and 35 Crafting for the Staff – so we hope you haven’t neglected your non-combat skills!

When used in combat against rats (including Scurrius), Rat Bone weapons will increase your max hit by 10. Wield them against Scurrius himself, and you’ll be looking at a very efficient way to train combat – unless you’d prefer to whack crabs until the logout timer hits!

What if you'd like to flex your Rat Bone arsenal outside of the dark, dingy sewers? You can! Here's how their stats shake out:

You’ll be able to trade excess Spines (gross!) to an NPC outside Scurrius’ lair who will reward you with 5,000 XP in any Combat skill – except for Prayer, where you’ll receive 3,500 XP per Spine.

Other drops include appropriately mid-level supplies of food, Runes, Arrows, and Potions. You should receive enough back to offset the cost of fighting the boss and perhaps put away a little pocket money – but the main reward is XP. Don’t expect to leave the sewers as an overnight billionaire - you'll have to get busy charging Air Orbs for that!

Now, there’s one last reward you should probably know about. Make room in your menagerie, because you may well have a funny feeling while fighting Scurrius… and we’re not talking about the smell…

Join a Clan

Earlier this month we let you know that we’re retiring our forums. They’ll become read-only on January 25th and will be removed entirely on March 28th. You can read more about our reasons for this decision in this newspost.

One of the biggest points of concern you’ve raised is that the community will lose an official space to advertise or join clans.

But don’t panic – we’re adding some new spaces to our Official Discord Server where you can meet like-minded players and find new friends!

We've added the following spaces:
  • Clan Guidelines: to learn the best way to utilise the space.
  • Clan Central: a casual space to discuss anything Clan-related.
  • Clan Advert Board: a place to post your clan advert message.
  • A series of forum channels for recruiting to different types of clans, including social, PvM, PvP, and a channel for if your clan covers multiple types.
  • Looking for clan: post a thread here when you're looking for a clan to join, this way clans can approach you!
  • Looking for Group: for those of you looking for a group of fellow players to play different content with.

To join the server, simply click this link. You’ll be able to select which announcements you want to hear, which news you want to keep up with, and even which Old School RuneScape god you align with. After the 10-minute waiting period, you’ll be ready to go!

We’re always working on new ways to use our Official Discord Server, and we’re open to your suggestions! Incidentally, we have a ‘Suggestion’ channel in the Discord, so if you have any awesome ideas, be sure to pop them in there.

Finally, we want to give a huge shout out to our Discord moderators who have been an incredible help setting up our newest Clan functions, as well as keeping our Discord an inviting, engaging place.

A Quick Update on the great Vyre Well Blood Rune Disappearance of '24

Before we get into the usual 'smaller' tweaks from this week, we wanted to keep you in the loop on what's happening with all those Blood runes that effectively disappeared following last week's improvements to the Scythe of Vitur.

Last week we reduced the number of Blood Runes used by the Scythe – hurrah! While that’s great for Scythe fans, we overlooked those of you with a large number of charges stored in the Vyre Well at Ver Sinhaza. Because of this oversight, this group has been losing 100 Blood Runes per charge… not quite what we intended!

We’ve been exploring whether we can restore these missing Runes and in doing so, have done an awful lot of research. We’ve identified around 16,000 players who are missing Blood Runes, and the quantity ranges from ‘not that many’ to ‘literally a million’.

This week’s update has let us put some code in place to return your Blood Runes, and delivery will commence in the next few days. We’ll post on socials, update the newspost, and even consider an in-game broadcast to let you know exactly when this change is happening.

When it does, you should be able to interact with the Vyre Well and receive a prompt for your Blood Runes refund – don’t forget to make Inventory space for them!

Unfortunately, our tracking is more limited for charges stored within the items themselves. Consequently, we can only offer returns for Blood Runes lost in the Well.

We sincerely apologise for last week's oversight and hope anybody affected finds themselves reunited with their missing Blood Runes later this week!

Now, on to this week's miscellaneous tweaks and changes:
  • Bank Placeholders for Coal will now be maintained when withdrawing all your Coal into your Coal Bag.
  • Arcane Scarabs now reliably render over Agile Scarabs.
  • Berry will no longer interrupt players every time they enter the Woodcutting Guild.
  • Phoenix Necklaces, Mithril Seeds and Crushed Bird Nests can no longer be drop-traded in dangerous PvP areas like the Wilderness.

Leagues IV: Trailblazer Reloaded - Survey

First of all, we'd like to give a huge thank you to everyone that took part in Leagues IV: Trailblazer Reloaded!

Even though Leagues is over (for now), we want to get some extra insight on how you will interacted with Trailblazer Reloaded to help us make more informed decisions about our next edition of this game mode.

We really appreciate you taking the time to give us your feedback and the team is looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Scythe and Fang Changes

We laid out our intentions to rebalance Osmumten's Fang and the Scythe of Vitur back in December, and today, these changes are going live! Here’s a refresher.

Osmumten's Fang

We know the Old School community love efficiency, but after Desert Treasure II, this weapon became a little too efficient – its Slash bonus was comparable to that of much stronger weapons that require serious upkeep!

We’ve decided to solidify the Fang as a Stab weapon by removing its double Accuracy roll effect from the Slash combat style. This means that you’ll only see the Fang’s benefits while using it to Stab.

This change lets Slash weapons like the Blade of Saeldor and the Scythe of Vitur really shine, making them a worthy investment once more.

Speaking of the Scythe…

Scythe of Vitur

We've buffed the Scythe!

First up, we’ve added +15 Slash Accuracy, which in current use cases increases the Scythe’s DPS by 0.2% for low-defence bosses (like the big nylocas) and 7% for higher-defence encounters (like General Graardor).

We’ve also made big changes to how you charge the Scythe. For one thing, charges are now cheaper at one Vial of Blood and 200 Blood Runes for 100 charges. That’s a 100 Blood Rune discount!

Additionally, charges are now only used when the Scythe rolls at least one hit above 0. No more burning through your charges without even hitting the enemy! While the Scythe’s new Accuracy buff means you won’t be rolling 0s as often, this change will help out where you need it most – fighting big, high-defence NPCs!

We’ve pushed these two updates out in advance of the rest of Project Rebalance so that you can reap the benefits of these much-requested changes earlier. Don’t worry – we’re still working on the rest and hope to share more news with you soon.

Children of the Sun | January 10th

New Year, new quest!

Children of the Sun

We’re back with our first update of the new year! We hope you all had a holly, jolly time over the festive season – we’ve missed you!

As the new year dawns, we bet you can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2024. Well, wait no longer, because today marks the launch of a new quest which will introduce the Varlamore storyline and prepare you to explore the Shining Kingdom as soon as it launches. Exciting stuff!

Children of the Sun begins on the familiar streets of Varrock, where a delegation from Varlamore has arrived to sign a treaty with the rulers of Misthalin. It’s a day for celebration, but something’s amiss… you’d better find out what’s going on!

Speak to the citizens in Varrock Square to start your investigation!

Quest Requirements and Rewards

Requirements
  • Members-only

Rewards
  • 1 Quest Point
  • Access to Varlamore
    • Please note: this reward will be unlocked when Part One of Varlamore releases later this year. Completing the quest now, however, means that you’ll be able to hop right in and explore on day one!

Kourend Changes

Let’s move a little further north now, where we’ve been busy shaking things up in the kingdom of Kourend!

For a detailed breakdown of what’s changing, check out the original poll blog. Meanwhile, here are the highlights of this week’s update:
  • The Kourend favour system has been fully removed. This includes:
    • The favour interfaces (side panel, reward interface and UI overlay).
    • The ability to earn favour (including favour reward scrolls).
    • The Architectural Alliance miniquest.
  • Transport within Kourend has been significantly improved:
    • Minecarts no longer need unlocking, and no longer have any requirements. For the low low price of 20 GP (down from 50 GP), you can ride the rails all across the kingdom.
    • You can still unlock the ability to use the minecarts for free, but this will now be locked behind The Forsaken Tower quest, and any players who previously purchased the unlock will be refunded.
    • New minecart stations have been added to Kingstown, the Farming Guild, Kourend Woodland, the Wintertodt Camp, the Shayzien Wall and near the Tithe Farm.
    • Charter ships have been added to Port Piscarilius and Land's End.
    • Players no longer need to fix the Fairy Ring in Arceuus to use it.
      • If you already paid the fee, speak to the nearby NPC to reclaim your GP!
    • We've also added an extra Fairy Ring near the Hosidius Vinery.
  • The Kourend Castle Teleport has been improved:
    • The teleport is now unlocked by completing Client of Kourend, instead of through the library activity.
    • The Magic requirement has been reduced from 69 to 48.
    • The Runes needed for the spell have changed to 2 Law, 1 Fire and 1 Water Rune.
    • Added the ability to craft Teleport Tablets for this spell in your Player Owned House.
  • Improved Kharedst's Memoirs:
    • The maximum number of charges has increased from 8 per page to 20 per page – 100 in total.
    • Completing A Kingdom Divided and obtaining The Book of the Dead will grant an extra 150 charges rather than an extra 20, for a total of 250 pages.

The spellbook interface orders spells by Magic level, and while we offer the ability to filter the spells, we don't currently offer any way of changing the order. With the Magic requirement for the Kourend teleport spell going down, it will change position in the spellbook, causing other spells to move as well. Here's an image showing the before and after.

While this has happened before, it's been quite a few years since it last did and we know that you will be very used to the current spell positions. In the future, we're keen to explore offering spellbook reordering as part of our own client, but that's not something that can be implemented soon. In the meantime, we're exploring changing our guidelines for third party clients to allow spellbook reordering (like they've already done so for Prayers).

About The Year In Review

Over the last few weeks we've been sending out the Old School Year In Review, and it's led to a lot of questions which we'd like to answer in this newspost. Let's start with a simple one...

What is the Year In Review?
It's a lot of fun stats covering what you've done in Old School during 2023 - a bit like a RuneScapey Spotify Wrapped!

How were players able to receive it?
Players who were opted into marketing email communications by December 22nd were eligible to receive it. As of today we have sent out 743,772 of them!

Why was it email-only?
Last year we made a lot of progress on behind-the-scenes projects to improve our data and communications tools, but that work isn't entirely complete just yet. This year we expect to be able to add the shareable Year In Review image to the Jagex Launcher itself, but that wasn't ready. It was either send it via email or don't do it at all!

I was opted-in but didn't receive the Year In Review, why is that and when will I receive it?
There were technical issues that affected approximately 1% of eligible players, we’re actively trying to solve those issues but we don’t have a timeframe to give just yet, but we’re working hard to make sure you will receive it as soon as possible.

I wasn't opted-in but I'd still really like it, is there any hope for me?
Due to how we had to set-up the data-gathering (ie. capture data for eligible players between certain dates) it is unlikely to be possible. However, once we have resolved the issue for players who were opted-in we will investigate the possibility. No promises though.

What will you do differently next time?
We'll do a better job of communicating that this is a thing, we'll endeavour to make it more accessible (like adding it to the Launcher), we expect the technical issues we faced this time will be solved (after all, this was our first time doing it!), and we may even be able to run this sort of thing for Deadman and Leagues too!

Saying Goodbye to Leagues IV and Christmas

It was fantastic to see so many of you getting involved with Leagues over the festive period. Sadly, the fun can’t last for ever, and Leagues IV has now ended. But don’t worry, the memories we made will live in our hearts forever – and if that’s not enough, we’re already cooking up some ideas for Leagues V…

Similarly, Jack Frost has been turfed out of the Lumbridge cow field and the area has returned to its usual unslippery state. The goose, having lost its main source of entertainment, has sulkily relocated to another nearby field where it is attempting, somewhat unsuccessfully, to blend in. Go say hello!

Other Changes

  • A new engine update brings improved loading times to the Player Owned House!
  • The new loading times should be consistent regardless of the house’s size.
  • The Teleport options on the Slayer Ring now refer to the cave near Rellekka as the Fremennik Slayer Dungeon, for consistency.
  • Clay can now be softened with water from Vials.
  • The level-up messages for 70 Attack no longer mention the Dragon Hunter Lance, which requires level 78 Attack.
  • The non-Special Attack animations on the Soulreaper Axe no longer stall the attacker’s movement.

Merch

With the end of Leagues IV, it’s your last chance to pick up a Leagues IV commemorative pin before they’re gone for good! Celebrate your Trailblazer: Reloaded journey with this stunning work of art from Angels Scapes!

Orders will close on January 16th – get ‘em before they’re gone right here on the Merch Store.

By the way, we love all the photos you’ve shared of your Nieve, Wise Old Man, Gnome Child, and Bob the Cat plushies. Here are our favourites!

2023 Christmas Event

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Can you believe that 2023 is almost over? Neither can we!

This year’s fabulously festive Christmas Event takes us to Lumbridge, where regular troublemaker Jack Frost is up to his usual tricks. See, Jack’s been getting a little bored lately and to stop him being a nuisance, Santa’s banished him to Gielinor for the holidays. Not to be deterred from a little mischief, our frosty friend has rented a field in Lumbridge for a winter sports extravaganza – and he needs YOU to test it out!

After helping Jack Frost out, you might want to stick around a little longer – partaking in the event will earn you Christmas Achievements. We don’t want to spoil the fun, so they’ll be hidden until after the event – have fun, get silly, and see how many of them you can find!

Don’t worry, the Christmas Achievements are just a bit of fun. They don’t count towards Leagues tasks or any Achievement Diaries. Try them out solo or with your friends!

If you find the event has been a slippery slope to further snowy shenanigans, check out Jack Frost’s Sliding Challenge Mode, where you’ll race against the clock to see how fast you can slide! Nyooom!

Event Items

Frosty FashionScape is coming your way! This year, you can earn yourself the Snowglobe Helmet and the Icy Jumper to celebrate the season.

Don’t forget, you can also unlock all the rewards from previous years by speaking to Diango at his stall in Draynor.

Christmas Livestream

Today, Tuesday December 12th, marks the last livestream of the year! Join us for a festive extravaganza!

The J-Mods will be in-game playing through this year’s Christmas Event and having fun with the community. Back in the studio, Santa has dropped by with some OSRS Boss Top Trumps to give away to a few lucky winners – tune in for your chance to win!

Leagues IV: Trailblazer Reloaded

If you’ve been keeping up with our newsposts, you’ll have seen that the frequent reminders about Leagues Points being calculated on a rolling schedule to protect our web systems. Unfortunately, so many of you are racking up the Points that this system began experiencing errors from re-calculating League Points at such a regular pace! Don’t panic, we’ve fixed the issue – but some players may now find they have a different Point total between Leagues and regular worlds.

If you’re experiencing this issue, please log back into a Leagues World and either open and close the Points interface or complete some new tasks. This should cause the Points to sync correctly again.

In other Leagues news, we’ve fixed an issue where auto-completed Combat Achievements weren’t counting as completed when unlocking the associated region. The following Combat Achievements are affected:
  • Faithless Crypt Run (Morytania/Barrows)
  • Dress Like You Mean It (Desert/Tempoross)
  • Versatile Drainer (Fremennik/Phantom Muspah)
  • More Than Just A Ranged Weapon (Fremennik/Phantom Muspah)
  • The Worst Ranged Weapon (Asgarnia/Kree’arra)
  • Finding The Weak Spot (Wilderness/Corporeal Beast)

Chambers of Xeric

As promised, we have a selection box of changes for the recently-updated Chambers of Xeric raid.

First up, skeletal mystics will now scale correctly when manually scaling a Raid at creation. Previously, their mystical powers let them see through your ‘invisible mates’ ruse, but we’ve given them a stern talking to about respecting other people’s imaginary friends and now they’ve promised to behave.

We’ve also prevented players from placing Kindling in Storage Units, due to an issue where players could stack a bunch of them to deposit at once for extra Point bonuses. Someone’s going on the naughty list!

Lastly, we have a pair of smaller bug fixes:
  • Tumeken’s Shadow will now splash against the Jewelled Crabs if your Magic Accuracy is -64 or lower.
  • Potions now correctly award points when sipped.

You may notice that a couple of the changes we spoke about last week are missing. Firstly, upon further investigation into the Great Grub Bonanza in the Thieving room, we discovered that this behaviour was intended after all. Phew! We also reviewed the implications of removing the attack delay on the Harmonised Nightmare Staff when facing Jewelled Crabs, and discovered that allowing players to cast rapid Fire Strikes would result in those players receiving unusually rapid XP rates. As a result of our investigations, both of these changes have been cancelled.

Nevertheless, we'd like to give a big ol' THANK YOU to everyone who left their feedback! You'll all get extra Cavern Grubs in your stockings this year.

PvP Rota

Over the Christmas period, all worlds will be open, regardless of the region. The PvP rota will begin again next year!

The PvP Arena will be using Zerker loadouts in Ranked Duels and Tournaments this week, starting on Wednesday, with '1 Def Pure' the following week as this is on an automatic rota.

Leagues IV: Trailblazer Reloaded

The latest League has been live for three weeks now, and Trailblazers across Gielinor have been popping tasks, scooping up drops and even reaching the heights of Dragon Tier! While you've been slaying, questing, and skilling, our team has been squashing bugs and deploying hotfixes to ensure your journey is as smooth as possible.

If you're looking for the latest scoop on stats from Soup (which is a really fun thing to say out loud!) then check out the video he put together for our YouTube Channel!

If you can't see the video, try clicking here instead!

Now, let's take a look at that fresh list of fixes!

Task Updates

Tasks are how you progress in the League, so we’ve kept a tight ship when it comes to dealing with flagged issues! This week we've cleaned up the following bugbears:
  • Players can now equip any combination of Gold and Normal Prospector outfit parts to complete the ‘Equip a Full Prospector Outfit’ task.
  • Corrected ‘Create 100 Divine Super Combat Potions’ task to ‘Create 50 Divine Super Combat Potions’, which was always the requirement to complete it.
  • Fixed an issue where the ‘Equip Every Draconic Shield’ task could not be completed, even after equipping all three shields.
  • The ‘Complete all Muspah Combat Achievements’ task will now complete correctly when the requirements are met.
  • Removed the task ‘Equip a Full Angler’s Outfit’ from the Kourend task list as there is an existing global task with the same requirements.
  • Nex will now count towards the 100/250/500 God Wars Dungeon KC tasks.

Combat Achievements

  • Combat Achievements that are region-specific will now be autocompleted.
  • Players who reach the point threshold for Combat Achievement tiers will now correctly unlock that tier, instead of needing at least one point over the threshold.
  • Using Purge as one of three different Prayer drain methods will now count towards completing the ‘Versatile Drainer’ Combat Achievement.

We’re continuing to remove clues that are inaccessible during this League so that nobody’s wasting time on Clue Scrolls they can’t complete!

This week, we’ve rounded up a few more stragglers, including:
  • The Easy clue which requires players to dance at the Grand Exchange with a Pink Skirt, Pink Robe Top, and a Body Tiara. This clue is no longer obtainable for players who have not unlocked Kandarin.
  • The Master cryptic clue which requires players to talk to Sir Vyvin while wearing a White Platebody and Legs/Skirt. We’ve removed this clue from the League entirely.

Lastly, we’ve ensured that you’ll still be able to pick up Clue Scrolls when you have a Clue Nest, Geode or Bottle in your Bank.

Guardian Fixes

Your Guardian does some pretty heavy lifting in combat, so to make sure it doesn’t miss a moment of the action we’ve added a toggleable option to the Guardian Horn which will let you automatically summon the Guardian when you attack enemies. The toggle is ON by default.

In addition, we’ve fixed an issue where hit splats on both the Guardian and thralls were showing incorrect max hits.

Lastly, a little something for you FashionScapers – as of today, you’ll be warned if your Guardian is wearing *that* rare outfit when you try to reroll it.

General Tweaks

  • Using Globetrotter's last destination will now correctly account for Dragonstone jewellery teleports, so it can be used in up to level 30 Wilderness.
  • Reduced the maximum amount of Soul Wars Points players can use at one time to 1,000. This is because players were receiving too much XP at once, causing their levels to wrap around into negative numbers. Just calm down, you lot!
  • Players can now switch between the Leagues sound and regular sound of the Vengeance spell by right-clicking on it if they have unlocked the Leagues Vengeance. The default sound has been restored to the regular version.
  • Tumeken's Shadow now benefits from the attack speed increase from Superior Sorcerer in Soul Wars.
  • The Guardian will now stun the Abyssal Sire correctly.
  • The Leagues IV emote will now be available when the player has the full set of Leagues IV Relic Hunter on their League Outfit Stand in the Player Owned House.
  • Fixed an issue where Zimberfizz would try to escape the Soul Wars tutorial.
  • The Scroll in the Leagues Trophy Room now correctly states your rank in previous Leagues.
  • Fixed a clipping issue with the new Alchemy animations which appeared when wearing items in both hands.
  • Updated the Leagues Firsts board!

On the topic of updates, we want to remind everyone that the record of your League Points in the main game are not updated in real time and could take a while to catch up to their actual value. This is a safety measure we’ve implemented to keep our backend systems happy – so don’t worry, your missing Points will appear as soon as the system catches up.

Chambers of Xeric QoL Changes

Last week’s long-awaited Chambers of Xeric tweaks have gone over an absolute treat. Thanks to everyone who gave the new-and-improved raid a whirl and sent us feedback, we have a few changes in the backlog.

Firstly, when scaling the party during Party Creation, players sometimes encounter fewer Skeletal Mystics than they expect. These fellas are an unusual case – unlike most everything else, they spawn dynamically based on the number of players who are actually in the Raid. They’re not fooled by your invisible mates! We’re looking to adjust this so that players receive the points they expect from scaled Raids.

Next up, a couple of Magic weapons have problems with our old friends, the Jewelled Crabs. Casting spells with the Harmonised Nightmare Staff still results in an attack delay, and Tumeken’s Shadow doesn’t guarantee a splash against the Crabs even when the Magic bonus on the equipment interface claims to be -64. Technically, that’s the Shadow’s fault, but we’ll be fixing it anyway!

‘Failing’ Thieving chests paradoxically gives players with 95 Thieving and above a minimum of two Grubs, instead of one. Although you’re big fans of this bug, we will be rolling it back as it makes Thieving a little too good. Sorry!

Lastly, we’re investigating feedback that Potions dropped by NPCs within the Raid aren’t giving as many points as expected. We’re still nailing the root cause of this issue down, but we’ll hopefully be able to reunite you with your potion-y points soon!

We hope to roll these changes out in next week’s update. In the meantime, please do reach out if you think we’ve missed anything!

Other Changes

  • Removed the level up messages for the Ruinous Powers.
  • Party balloons in Clan Halls should no longer drop inside the walls.
  • The Pursuer will no longer attack players on a different level to it.
  • Players should no longer get stuck when generating new floors of the Sepulchre.

Chambers of Xeric | November 29rd

“CoX chAnGes WhEn?” CoX changes… now!

As you can see from the Patch Notes, this week brings an army of Chambers of Xeric changes! These highly-anticipated QoL tweaks aim to improve the balance between different raid rooms and reduce the need to scout for the perfect layout.

Juuuust before we get started, we want to reiterate that we don’t currently have plans to implement custom layouts. The whole point of today’s changes is to make any layout balanced, so we don’t feel that this feature is needed. That said, we will be keeping an eye on your feedback following today’s update and adjusting our plans if custom layouts is something the community is still interested in.

Chambers of Xeric

General Changes

Phew! All that running back and forth to the Recruitment Board can get pretty tiring, huh? Our first change aims to give your tired legs a rest, with the new ‘Reload’ option. As a Raid Leader, simply right-click the stairs in the Lobby area, select ‘Reload’, and you’ll generate a fresh new layout without any fuss.

Note that anyone in the Raid who isn’t the leader will be booted when you do this, so be sure to give your companions plenty of warning! Since the Chambers of Xeric are instanced, you’ll also lose any items on the ground inside the Raid. So if you're somehow able to drop something on the ground in the lobby, then be careful (and let us know how you managed it)!

Here's some rapid raid reloading action!

Raid Leaders will also notice a new UI option which allows you to scale up the difficulty of the Raid by adding invisible players. Spooky!

Hm... Okay, and are these alts in the room with us now?

With your shiny new layout and your imaginary friends in place, it’s time to gear up! As of today, you might be able to free up some Inventory slots by bringing fewer Stamina Potions, since we’ve peppered Energy Pools throughout the Raid to keep you topped up as you progress.

Mmm! Mystery yellow juice!

Squad's ready, you're geared up, you're feeling good about saving one whole Stamina potion, you've started the raid...

"Guys I forgot Antipoison," moans the only non-Iron in your group. Don’t panic. Our next change means that most common food and potions will now appear for all account types when dropped within the Raid. Drop away!

Note that this doesn’t apply to noted consumables, so Ultimate Iron players are still safe to do whatever they spend all their time doing while you wait for them to prep.

On the topic of prep, we’ve sped up growth times for Buchu, Golpar and Noxifer plants throughout the Raid. You’ll spend less time waiting for them to grow, and more time wondering what on Gielinor the UIM is doing over there.

Scavenger Beasts

Even no-prep Raid enjoyers had to start somewhere, and that somewhere probably included rolling the dice on scavs.

These helpful enemies drop everything you need to support yourselves during the Raid, from Planks to Lockpicks. Most importantly, they drop potion secondaries.

It could get pretty frustrating when you just needed one more sprig of Cicely to finish your prep but kept getting Endarkened Juice instead. As of today, though, scavengers are guaranteed to drop all the following items:
  • 5-14 Endarkened Juice
  • 3-11 Stinkhorn Mushroom
  • 3-6 Cicely

Scavs already have a chance to roll multiple secondary drops – this change just makes it more likely that you’ll find the ingredients you need. Additionally, scavs will now only roll two drops upon death, which should keep the floor clear enough for you to pick out whatever bits you need.

You might have to squint to see it in this one, but pay close attention and you'll see that the floor is absolutely littered with multiple secondary drops.

While you’re chasing potion secondaries, you might happen across a Mallignum Root Plank or two. As of today’s update, you can feel free to pick ‘em up, because they’re now stackable!

Our final scav change isn’t to the beasties themselves, but to the rooms they’re in. The so-called ‘shortcuts’ for Mining and Woodcutting currently take so long to get through that it’s faster to run around, so we’ve sped them up and made them award more points, to boot.

Tekton

To say that Tekton is a little bit tanky is the understatement of the decade. This mad lad’s incredible defences let him shrug off just about any attack, even when you’re using maximum Crush bonus gear to take advantage of his one weakness. That’s great for Tekton, but much less great for players having to land a Dragon Warhammer special before they can reduce Tekton’s ludicrous Defence and actually start dealing damage. Worse, Tekton’s oversized anvil lets him heal up, remove your hard-earned Defence debuff, and give himself even more Defence when he returns to the fight!

~8,200 of you voted on how best to tackle Tekton. Here’s the results of the poll:
  • Prevent Tekton's Defence from resetting when he's at the anvil: 2,939
  • Guaranteed hit for the first Dragon Warhammer special attack used on Tekton: 2,872
  • Elder Maul hits reduce Tekton's Defence by 5% of its current value: 1,786
  • Reduced Crush defence during his enraged form: 578
  • Other: 2 (You tried your best!)

Your preferences were clear, so we went with both the top two options. As of today, the first Dragon Warhammer special against Tekton is guaranteed to hit, and he’s no longer able to regain his Defence using his anvil.

We still want to show the Elder Maul some love, so keep an eye out for the tweaks we’re planning for Project Rebalance in a few months.

Oh, and if you’re one of the two people who voted ‘Other’, we salute you for breaking the mold!

In theory we could have hit this special attack even against unchanged Tekton, so you'll have to take our word for it, but it really works!

The next time somebody asks you whether you've had any luck catching those Dragon Warhammer specs, you can confidently respond that you're guaranteed one, actually!

Jewelled Crabs

The changes to these crystallised critters are relatively minor but should give you a little more control over their room.

First, players will no longer be able to splash on crabs if their Magic bonus is -64 or lower. This should free you from the mess of splashing, failing to change the colour, everyone in your group running off, and having to set up all the crabs again just to change one crystal.

To make this deal even sweeter, we’re also removing the Attack Delay from hitting jewelled crabs. After hitting a crab, you’ll be able to hit again on the very next tick, allowing players to quickly pull crabs together or correct mistakes if you happen to hit one with the wrong style. Additionally, to prevent players wasting all their ammo and charges, if your attack changes the crab’s colour you won’t continue to attack that crab automatically – although you can click on it again if you like.

Ice Demon

Stop right there, talented raider! We see you hovering over that fancy new 'Reload' button because Ice Demon's appeared in your layout. Take a breath and reconsider, because we've got a couple of changes to this frozen monstrosity that you should know about first!

What if we told you that you no longer had to deal with depositing your whole Inventory and rearranging everything just to chop Kindling because we've made it stackable up to a cap of 28? We hope that sounds good, because that’s exactly what we’ve done!

When it comes to actually using your kindling, you’ll notice that lighting braziers now provides 32 points, up from 24, and burning a single kindling now awards 36 points, up from 26. This should bring this room’s point rewards in line with the others, considering the low intensity of this encounter.

In addition, when your party defeats the Ice Demon, everyone involved will now receive potion secondaries! They’re awarded as follows:
  • Stinkhorn mushroom: (2 * # of players) + 5
  • Endarkened juice: (2 * # of players) + 5
  • Cicely: (# of players) + 4

Those of you employing Fire Surge’s explosive power against the Ice Demon can feel smug about bringing the right tool for the job! We’ve reduced its Magic defence from 60 to 40, so it’s definitely worth kitting yourself out in some Magic gear.

In case you hadn’t clocked on, this blog is loosely following the journey through Challenge Mode. Normally, we’d encounter Lizardman Shamans next – but they’re unchanged, so let’s skip straight to the Vanguards!

Vanguards

Everyone’s favourite rock… bug… things… the Vanguards! A while ago now, we changed their loot mechanics so that players were guaranteed an Overload (+) for clearing the room.

Outside of Overloads, however, their drops have a degree of variance that can make or break a Raid for No Prep learners. Today, we’re standardising the potion rewards to make them more predictable and throwing in a free Prayer Enhance - because you’re our favourites. <3

Here’s what the drops look like now:
  • Melee Vanguard: 2 Xeric's Aid, 1 Elder
  • Ranged Vanguard: 1 Xeric's Aid, 2 Revitalisation, 1 Twisted
  • Magic Vanguard: 1 Xeric's Aid, 1 Prayer Enhance, 1 Kodai

You’ll still receive that guaranteed Overload (+) – so now all that’s left is to figure out which Vanguard is which, beg your friend with the Twisted Bow to stop dealing damage, and – oh, oops, the Vanguards have reset. Let’s just move on, shall we?

Thieving

Your grubby little hands are about to get grubbier than ever!

Fun fact: before today’s update, if you entered the Thieving room at 99 Thieving with a Lockpick, your success rate to open the chest was actually below 70%, and you’d only have a 50% chance to receive Grubs. Hmm. Actually, that’s not a fun fact at all, which is why we’re making the following changes.

First up is success chance, which has improved for all players and now better rewards those who’ve levelled their Thieving – it’s a Thieving Room, after all!

Scenario Previous Success Rate New Success Rate

Level 1 Thieving, No Lockpick 35.3% 39.2%

Level 1 Thieving, Lockpick 49% 60.7%

Level 99 Thieving, No Lockpick 49% 60.7%

Level 99 Thieving, Lockpick 68.6% 82.3%

You’ll also be guaranteed a Grub when opening a chest – as long as there’s a Grub in there, and not bats or poison gas. In addition, each Grub you pop in the trough is now worth 115 points, up from 100. To top it all off, when you complete the room, you’ll be rewarded with – you guessed it! – some potion secondaries.
  • Stinkhorn mushroom: (2 * # of players) + 3
  • Endarkened juice: (2 * # of players) + 3
  • Cicely: (# of players) + 2

Now all those extra Grubs start to add up quick, lucky for you we've made them stackable (up to a cap of 28) so you can spend more time thieving and less time managing your inventory while your teammates hog all the points!

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this room after today’s update, since despite its inconsistency it was in a good place when it came to points vs the amount of time taken to complete it. We want to make sure these changes haven’t made it a little too good!

Vespula

Way back when we published the first blog about these changes, we made a little joke about how rarely anyone defeats Vespula by the ‘intended’ means, instead opting for the riskier Redemption method. Today, we’re making some changes which should make Vespula feasible even without Redemption.

To understand Vespula, you have to know what she does when left to her own devices. Have you ever noticed all those gross, oversized grubs with HP bars hanging around her room? Turns out they harbour vespine soldiers, which crawl out of their undulating bodies whenever Vespula reduces an unfortunate grub’s HP to 0. These soldiers pack a mean punch, healing up both Vespula and the Abyssal Portal.

Turns out you can actually shoot that big annoying bug in the room and not just that spooky portal, neat!

You’re supposed to tackle this room by reducing Vespula’s HP, then dealing damage to the portal before she gets airborne again. At the same time, you’ll want to prevent more soldiers from spawning by healing the lux grubs using Medivaemia Blossoms. It’s not quite as simple as clicking between the portal and a ‘safe’ tile while continually praying Redemption, but we promise, it’s not as tricky as you think.

In fact, it’s about to be even less tricky, because we’ve made some changes to make this room feel a little less daunting:
  • Lux grubs' HP has been increased from 100 to 125. This gives you more time to heal them before the vespine soldiers break out and start dealing damage.
  • Medivaemia Blossoms now heal lux grubs for 35 HP, up from 20. This lets you easily keep control of the grubs as long as you're picking up those Blossoms!
  • Both Vespula and her Vespine soldiers have had their Ranged and Melee strength slightly reduced, which means you’ll take less damage!
  • Vespine soldiers now heal the Abyssal Portal at a reduced rate. This allows you more time to fix your mistakes if you've let one slip through the cracks at any point.

Not ready to give up Redemption just yet? Great news – these changes also make it a more viable method for players who couldn’t reliably pull it off beforehand. It’s still the fastest way to tackle Vespula, so if you haven’t tried it yet, now’s a great time to try it out!

One more treat! After defeating Vespula, you’re now guaranteed to receive an Overload (+) as a drop!

We hope these changes will take Vespula from one of the most-avoided rooms to a firm favourite. If you’re a chronic wasp skipper, we really recommend giving this room a try – it’s quick, the supplies are great, and after today’s changes, we reckon it’ll be easier to learn than ever.

Nothing's changing about Tightrope or Guardians, so we'll move straight to everybody's favourite brick wall...

Vasa Nistirio

Vasa can be a bit of a roadblock for some players. His Ranged defence was never tweaked following the 2021 Toxic Blowpipe changes, which means he still feels like a damage sponge for players with weaker gear. Combined with the healing crystals in his room, we have an encounter that feels more frustrating than fun for players with suboptimal loadouts.

Our first step to tear down that brick wall is to reduce Vasa’s Ranged defence from 60 to 40. This should make things a bit less frustrating for Blowpipe users, without eating into the strength of the Twisted Bow.

Next, we’re changing Vasa’s healing mechanic. As of today, when Vasa approaches a crystal, it’ll start charging – indicated by a gloopy Hitsplat. If you break the crystal before it’s charged, all the healing will be discarded. If you fail to break the crystal, Vasa will heal for just as much as before – so be quick on the gear switches and bring the right tools for the job!

Pay attention to the blue 'arrow' hitsplats indicating that Vasa is storing healing, and the purple healing hitsplat when the crystal isn't destroyed in time!

In this clip, notice how Vasa's health doesn't regenerate once the crystal is destroyed, handy!

For your efforts, you’ll be rewarded with an Overload (+) Potion. Nice!

Skeletal Mystics

We'll keep this one short and sweet, unlike the layout for the Mystics' lair – which has proved to be quite the pain point! This mazelike room can drain your Energy and your patience!

To alleviate this issue, we’ve placed some helpful (and very cool-looking) portals throughout the room, which will let you navigate from one end to the other, or from the middle of the room to either the start or the end - assuming all of the Mystics have been defeated.

Honestly this change is pretty small, but we thought this clip was too cool not to include - look how quickly this raider gets their dropped brew back!

Nice and simple! Now, let’s use our mystic maze mobility to zoom over to the last thing standing between you and the Great Olm himself.

Muttadiles

They’re big, mean, and not-so-lean: the muttadiles!

These kind-of-dog, kind-of-croc creatures hit extremely hard, and have a tendency to drain your remaining brews to 0, especially in Challenge Mode raids. Today, we’re presenting a suite of tweaks to make them more consistent – starting with Dimitri, the Meat Tree. (Editor’s Note: Yes, that’s canon now. Sorry!)

Currently, the chopping damage formula is responsible for most of the inconsistency in this room – and while a little randomness is fun, it’s much less fun when you’re being chomped on by muttadiles the entire time. The damage formula now works like so: (Woodcutting level / 2) - 2, plus or minus 5.

For example, at 99 Woodcutting: 99 divided by 2 gives 49, since we always round down. Subtract 2 to get 47. Your damage for chopping will then roll anywhere from 42 to 52. Simple!

The player in this instance has 87 Woodcutting, so damage can roll anywhere from 36 to 46. We know it's only two hits, but the consistent hitsplats literally don't stop comin'!

Some players don’t chop ol’ Dimitri at all, preferring to freeze the muttadiles right as they head in for some healing. This feels a little weird at times, because all your damage is nullified even though the muttadile is just standing there, menacingly. The following tweaks should make freezing more viable:
  • Both muttadiles will start moving towards the tree when at 50% HP or below, up from 40%.
  • Players are able to deal damage to muttadiles even if they are frozen while attempting to reach the tree.

For our last clip of the video, here's a Muttadile getting frozen in place by a well-prepared raider - it could even be you!

Whichever approach you choose, you should find that the muttadiles are more consistent now. We’re also adjusting their offensive capabilities to better reward players for skilled combat:
  • Both muttadiles have had their max hits reduced slightly.
  • Big muttadile will only swap from Magic to Ranged attacks (or vice versa) after using the same style 3 times in a row, not counting Melee attacks.

We’ve been doing a lot of testing on these guys, and we think they’re much more fun now. There’s something extremely satisfying about timing that perfect ZGS special attack and finally taking revenge for all the Brews you've lost over the years.

Great Olm

We’ve made it! Time to face Olm himself.

This fight is a properly climactic moment, whether you’re teaming up with friends or heading into Olm’s lair alone. As epic as this fight is, we have a couple of changes which address some common points of frustration:
  • Olm's portal swap special now spawns a portal within 10 tiles of players in a solo encounter.
  • Olm's Healing pool attack now has a 'cooldown' of 10 attacks.

That’s… it! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – and Olm is certainly not in need of fixing! This also marks the end of our Chambers of Xeric changes… for now. Of course, we’re always eager to hear your feedback, and we are open to making further tweaks if needed in future. Feel free to share your thoughts in all the usual places!

For now though, let’s see what they’re up to in the League…

Leagues IV - Post-Release Week 2

Leagues IV: Trailblazer Reloaded is live and kicking! We’re two weeks in, so there’s still plenty of time to jump in and join in the fun.

If that doesn’t convince you, check out this video by Hanannie, who worked with a bunch of other creators to bring you all the stats from Leagues IV’s first week – including an exclusive interview with a living legend! Watch the video below or click here to see it on YouTube.

As for this week’s changes, our first item of business is the Soul Wars XP cap, which has been removed on Leagues worlds. In an ideal world we’d see people training combat all over Gielinor, but we must admit the allure of the minigame is very powerful. With that in mind, we’re removing the cap, so players can get their training done and start exploring other islands!

It's finally time for you to spend your hard-earned League points once again, because we've re-enabled the Leagues Rewards shop in the main game! Head on over to the Leagues Assistant in the Lumbridge Castle courtyard to pick up some fiery and fierce Trailblazer Reloaded cosmetics and animation overrides!

We’ve also continued to eliminate inaccessible Clue steps. A list of affected Clues – including the ones we fixed last week – can be found in last week’s newspost. Huge thanks to everyone who let us know about the outliers!

Next up, Undying Retribution’s explosion radius has been increased by one whole tile – and the Relic’s description has been updated accordingly. This increased radius should make it a little easier to hit an NPC's south-west tile, and the new description should give you a clearer sense of what you're unlocking.

Lastly, we’ve made the following minor changes:
  • Removed the penalty applied to Marks of Grace when a player is 20 Agility levels above a course's requirement on Leagues worlds.
  • Adjusted Guardian behaviour at Kree'arra so that it attacks with Magic rather than Ranged.
  • Players can now correctly complete killcount tasks for Normal Chambers of Xeric in cases where they had obtained CM Chambers of Xeric killcount before finishing a Normal raid.
  • Fixed a display error where some unlocked destinations on the Fairy Ring interfaces were crossed out despite being accessible.
  • On Leagues worlds, dying to revenants no longer drops certain Inventory items to the ground instead of your gravestone.
  • The Rune Pouch and Divine Rune Pouch are no longer deleted upon death in the Wilderness region.
  • Players can no longer obtain both a Rune Pouch and Divine Rune Pouch simultaneously. Sorry, sorcerers!
  • Fixed a bug where the Guardian was causing Demonic Gorillas to lose aggression towards players.
  • Fixed a bug where harvesting from Fruit Tree or Bush patches with a full Inventory and Farmer's Fortune would crash the game.

Leagues IV Post-Launch | November 23rd

How do you do, fellow Trailblazers?

Game Update Changes

We're making some changes to our weekly game update process! Going forward, we are going to be including a back up with each week's update to ensure we have the most up-to-date save data from each player to ensure we're ready for any circumstance once an update launches.

You might already be aware that we've been testing this over the past month to make sure we're happy with the process and making sure updates are still in a good place.

Because of this, it does mean that downtime for updates will be slightly extended to accommodate the backup and ensure that's processed correctly. So going forward, the normal update will still occur on Wednesdays and the process will look like the following:
  • 10:45 GMT: 45-minute Shutdown Timer begins
  • 11:30 GMT: Game goes offline
  • 12:00 GMT: The Game is back online

Throughout the year, the day and times might differ slightly to accommodate bigger updates or holidays, but we will always state this across our socials and via our Game Status newspost beforehand.

Leagues IV: Trailblazer Reloaded

It’s been a whole week since our latest League launched, and you’ve been ‘Scaping harder than ever before. We've hit record player numbers, seen incredible World Firsts, and observed ongoing civil war between Fire Sale and Banker's Note gangs. Most importantly, we’ve been having an absolute blast.

Behind the scenes, the team has been hard at work deploying hotfix after hotfix. Most of the more significant ones graced our Game Status page over the days following release, while others were slightly lower in priority. We're not going to list every fix we've made, but here are a few you might like to know about:
  • The ‘Flex’ emote now unlocks automatically with the Desert region, allowing players to complete the ‘Flex in front of The Guns’ Task.
  • Players are now correctly addressed by their chosen gender rather than a particularly spacious comma in certain NPC dialogues.
    • Remember, you may change your gender using the Makeover Mage’s services, which are now also available from Thessalia in Varrock.
  • The ‘Pray at an altar in Molch while poisoned’ Task can now be completed after selecting the Brawler’s Resolve Relic.
  • Unlocking the Fremennik area now auto-completes the ‘Complete Rune Mysteries’ Task.
  • Fixed an issue where some Hot/Cold Clue steps were leading players into the Desert even when this region was locked.
  • Soul Wars XP modifiers and caps now apply multipliers correctly. Players can gain up to 1,000,000 XP per day, so enjoy those Zeal gains!
  • Doors in the Barrows’ crypts no longer get ‘stuck’.
  • Krystilia now provides appropriate tasks for players’ combat level.
  • The Task for completing 10 Combat Achievements now completes properly.
  • Removed the Task for completing Elemental Workshop I, as it was auto-completed during the Leagues Tutorial.
  • Herbs planted within Chambers of Xeric are now properly harvested by players with the Farmer’s Fortune Relic.
  • Players with the Trickster Relic can now progress through the Barbarian Firemaking section of Otto’s Barbarian Training.
  • Players can now be assigned Hydra Slayer Tasks.
  • The following items now scale correctly with modified drop rates:
    • Gout Tuber
    • Revenant Weapon Upgrades
    • Voidwaker Pieces
    • Shade Scrolls
    • Zealot Outfit
    • Holy Elixir (from Corporeal Beast)

This week’s changes have mostly focussed on Clue Scrolls. If you’ve read your Tier 1 Relic’s passive effects, you’ll know that you should only be receiving Treasure Trail steps that you can complete in the regions you’ve unlocked. Unfortunately, there are a significant number of emote clues which don’t respect this rule – and Falo the Bard was being outright rude to players who haven’t yet unlocked the Fremennik area!

We’ve now made significant changes which should ensure that all the clue steps you obtain can actually be completed. If there are any we’ve missed, please let us know, and we’ll adjust them as soon as we’re able. Unfortunately, these kinds of changes can’t be hotfixed, so you may have to wait until next week’s update!

Next up, Bloodvelds are loose in Gielinor! We saw that the Bloodthirsty Relic felt pretty underwhelming in some regions, so we’ve added low-level superior Bloodvelds onto various Slayer Task Lists in regions where they’re available – and unleashed a small herd of them in Kourend, too! We’ve also adjusted the number of monsters players are required to kill on low-level Slayer Tasks to make things a bit more exciting.

Those are the biggest changes this week, but we also have some smaller tweaks to show you:
  • We've fixed an issue with the Guardian and it should now attack the following NPCs: Zuk, Kree'Arra, Vespula.
  • The Osmumten's Fang Special Attack should now hit it's max hit correctly.
  • Using Slayer points to extend the revenant task should correctly make your tasks longer.
  • The Magers and Rangers in the TzHaar-Ket-Rak Leagues Challenge will now attack you correctly.
  • The HP at Hard Mode Phosani's Nightmare should now correctly scale.
  • The Kill Count tasks for the Kalphite Queen have had their names updated to 1, 50 and 150 times respectively to be corrrect.
  • Protecting the Tree Patch for the Elite Western Diary can now be done with Farmer's Fortune. You'll still need to pay 25 Coconuts to complete this.
  • Fixed a graphical issue with the new animations for Low & High Alchemy.
  • Being killed by a PK will no longer delete your Rune Pouch.
  • Players using the Farmer’s Fortune Relic can now complete the ‘Cast Resurrect Crops’ Task.
  • Bolt Special Attacks will now correctly heal players with the Soul Stealer Relic.
  • The Granite Maul’s Special Attack now hits correctly.
  • Fixed a bug where the ‘Obtain a Magic Seed from a Bird Nest’ task was not completing correctly.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented players who’d unlocked Kourend and Kebos from filtering their Task List to Kourend Tasks.
  • The Cursed Goblin Hammer will now always hit 0.
  • West Ardougne is now accessible for anyone with Kandarin, regardless of whether or not you've completed Biohazard.
  • You'll now be able to complete the 'Equip a Full Angler's Outfit' by equipping it anywhere.
  • The Trailblazer Pickaxe is now much better within Guardians of the Rift and the Path of Het.
  • Queen Points from Barbarian Assault now correctly apply the Minigame Modifier.
  • Players chopping Sulliceps can now roll a Mushroom and Fossil simultaneously. This is ONLY on Leagues worlds.
  • Unlocking Fremennik will now correctly complete the ‘Complete Client of Kourend’ and ‘Complete Ghosts Ahoy’ Tasks.
  • The Task ‘Kill a Creature in Mount Quidamortem’ Task has been renamed ‘Kill a Creature in Mount Karuulm’. The description has also been changed.
  • Players can now be assigned Hydra Slayer Tasks.
  • Superior Hydras now give Slayer Points correctly to players with the Bloodthirsty Relic.
  • The ‘Obtain a Boss Pet’ task can now be completed by obtaining pets from the Tombs of Amascut. This should be unlocked retroactively for anyone that has gotten the pet before via opening the interface.
  • Players using the Crystal of Memories to return to Nex will now appear inside the inner area near the bank.
  • Bloodthirsty Superiors will now have the correct icon above them.
  • MOBILE ONLY: Fixed an issue where expanding tasks in the Task Interface changed the background colour.
  • Corrected spelling errors.

Not only have we made a bunch of positive changes but we've changed some of the worlds to give you more options for where you do your activities this League!

Fremennik enjoyers will be pleased to hear that Blast Furnace automation has been enabled on all Leagues Worlds – so there are no specific ones for Blast Furnace.

When you arrive in Gielinor you’ll find yourself as a brand-new Iron player in Lumbridge, with the Misthalin and Karamja regions available to explore. You’ll have all the usual starting stats plus enough levels in Herblore, Agility and Runecraft to let you start training. With free Dramen Staff in hand, you’re ready to start taking on tasks, choosing your Relics, and unlocking new regions!

You’ll have boosted XP rates throughout the League, so you’ll soon catch up to your favourite activities.

If you’re undecided about which area to unlock first, check out this handy infographic from the endlessly talented GentleTractor!

Tasks

To unlock regions and gain more Relics, you’ll need League Points – and to get League Points, you’ll need to complete some tasks. These fun challenges are scattered relatively evenly across all available areas – so feel free to pick your favourites!

We’ve teamed up with the OSRS Wiki team to bring you the entire task list (https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Trailblazer_Reloaded_League/Tasks) on one incredibly useful page. This makes it easy to plan your route and choose your Relics to suit your favourite tasks – remember, strategy is key!

Relics

Choosing a Tier 1 Relic is the first decision you’ll need to make. These powerful items bestow all kinds of helpful buffs and boons – but choose wisely, because they’re permanent!

To help you out, here’s a rundown of the Tier 1 Relics:

Endless Harvest
  • 2x resources gathered from Fishing, Woodcutting and Mining. Bonus resources provide bonus XP.
  • Resources gathered by this Relic are sent directly to your Bank if there’s space. Otherwise, they are placed in your Inventory.
  • Items that normally can’t be banked will be placed into your Inventory regardless of how much space you have.

Production Prodigy
  • When doing the following activities, all items are processed at once:
    • Smelting ores, Smithing bars and making Cannonballs.
    • Fletching logs, stringing Bows and cutting bolt tips.
    • Cleaning herbs and making Potions which don’t have a stackable secondary ingredient.
    • Cooking food and making Jugs of Wine.
    • Crafting leather, uncut gems, glassblowing, jewellery, pottery, Battlestaves and spinning flax or wool.
  • You’ll receive full XP for all items processed using this Relic.
  • There’s a 25% chance that you’ll make an extra product, which will be sent straight to your Bank! This additional product will also earn you XP.
  • Crafting, Smithing, Herblore, Fletching and Cooking are all boosted by +12.

Trickster
  • You will automatically re-pickpocket your target.
  • Loot from pickpocketing is doubled and noted.
  • Coin pouch limit is multiplied by 3.
  • You’ll be given the Sage’s Greaves, that grant Agility XP that scales with your Agility level while running.
  • Box traps lure creatures faster.
  • Loot from box traps is doubled.
  • Impling jars can’t break.
  • You can burn up to nine logs simultaneously.
  • You can’t fail actions for Thieving, Agility, Hunter and Firemaking.

Pretty cool, huh? Well, that’s only the first three! You can find information about the other Relics we’ve revealed so far over on the OSRS Wiki – or, you can keep it a surprise and discover the others as you rise through the ranks.

League Firsts

If playing for fun isn't enough, but you're not sure that you'll be able to stick it out and go the distance for maximum points then League Firsts might be for you!

Below are a list of a number of achievements we'll be keeping an eye on so that we can commerorate the fastest trailblazers around throughout the League. and etch their names into the annals of League history.

  • Kill TzKal-Zuk
  • Complete Tzhaar-Ket-Rak's 7th Challenge
  • Complete an elite Achievement Diary

Rewards and Trophies

League Points aren’t just for new areas and Relics - you’ll be able to spend them on some fiery new rewards, too! From the hottest fits to the coveted League banner, from new animations to ornament kits – the Leagues Rewards Shop has it all.

As well as a new range of Trailblazer Reloaded-themed cosmetics, you can also purchase all the rewards you missed from previous Leagues. Likewise, if you have Points left over from previous Leagues, you can still spend them on new rewards!

Here's a sneak-peak at some of the animation overrides on offer this League!

To get your mitts on the goods, just hop back to the main game and speak to the Leagues Tutor in Catherby.

Please note that he’ll need a bit of time to set up his wares – to avoid nasty bugs, we’re not allowing players to purchase items from the Leagues Reward Store, or claim Trophies, until a couple of days after the League launches.

Speaking of Trophies, we’ve made some big changes this year! Our new static point threshold approach to HiScores ensures that you can be certain exactly how many League Points you need to earn each Trophy. Just like previous Leagues, there’s a Trophy for each tier on the HiScores, from basic Bronze all the way up to the coveted Dragon tier.

To make it even easier to see where you stack up, we’ve added the exact Point thresholds to your in-game Leagues menu. Take a peek!

Well, it seems we’ve nothing further to tell you. It’s time for you to gear up, put on your travellin’ boots, and head out into the wild world of Leagues IV: Trailblazer Reloaded. We can’t wait to see where you’ll go! Good luck – and have fun!

Forestry, Security & More! | November 2nd

This week’s update is scarily good! Read on for Forestry tweaks, new additions to the Stronghold of Security, a new Slayer block slot and more!

Changelog November 1st

Next week’s update will be a maintenance week, so this is our last proper update before Leagues IV: Trailblazer Reloaded launches on November 15th. We hope you’re all as excited as we are! For now, though…

[expand="more" type="show"]
  • Forestry Tweaks
    • The bonuses from Felling Axes and the Forestry Lumberjack outfit now stack correctly.
    • Crafting Padded spoons now gives reduced XP, and the XP given is Crafting XP instead of Mining XP.
    • Budding beekeepers will now be able to build a Beehive in their Player Owned House using Sturdy Beehive Parts obtained from the Beehive event.
    • Foxes and poachers now only spawn outdoors to prevent griefing.
    • Fixed a typo in the Skills interface.
    • The description of Twitcher's Gloves now explains that they’re used on every tree cut.
    • Removed mentions of tea brewing.
    • Forester's campfires can no longer be created without using logs.
  • Jagex Accounts Benefits
    • Jagex Account holders are now eligible to claim Fancier Boots from the Stronghold of Security.
    • Count Check, a new random event, has been enabled. He'll pop up occasionally and offer an XP Lamp to players who are using a Jagex account.
  • Other Changes
    • Players with over 300 Quest Points will unlock a new Slayer block slot.
    • Planks from the Sawmill can now be placed in the Plank Sack automatically.
    • Angler and Spirit Angler outfits have had their value increased, to reduce the odds of players accidentally dropping them.
    • Certain Random Event NPCs may now follow players into the Bank.
    • Dromund's cat no longer requires you to wear a Catspeak Amulet for dialogue once you've passed the required part of Dragon Slayer II.
    • Falo the Bard will now recognise the Barrelchest Anchor (bh) if he asks you to bring him a Barrelchest Anchor.

Forestry Tweaks

Last week we released Forestry Part Two, and since then you’ve given us loads of feedback to sift through. While this week’s update aims to address a couple of smaller tweaks, we’re continuing to discuss the bigger bits of feedback we’ve received and explore what kinds of changes might be needed to ensure Forestry is in the right spot. Don’t worry – we’ll keep you all in the loop throughout this process.

We’d also like to stress that these changes won’t constitute a ‘Part Three’. We’re not looking to add more content, but to improve upon what we’ve already added to the game.

Without further ado, let’s have a look at the smaller changes we have for you this week!

Padded Spoons

If you've been active in any OSRS social media circles over the last few days, you'll no doubt have seen the bizarre, buyable, bankstandable Mining training method that involves using limestone to craft Padded spoons.

When we said we'd be taking a look at a variety of Mining methods in the near future, this wasn't quite what we had in mind... As such, crafting Padded spoons will now provide - you guessed it - Crafting XP as opposed to Mining XP, and the XP per craft has been reduced.

Beehives

Forestry’s buzziest event just got even better! As of today’s update, you’ll randomly obtain Sturdy Beehive Parts from the Beehive event, which can be used to construct a Beehive of your very own in the ‘Big Plant’ space of your Garden or Formal Garden. Of course, you’ll need a Player Owned House and the relevant rooms to do so!

You can even release the bees from your hive to let them bumble about your home, spreading joy (and pollen) before making their way back to the hive. Lovely!

Poachers Event

You’ve been perplexing those pesky poachers quite effectively, but we’ve received word that some of you have been hindering your fellow players’ efforts to free the foxes. Boo!

As a result of the frequent door-slamming at the Seers’ Village church, both foxes and poachers will stop spawning indoors. That should put a stop to the griefing and give the local clergy some much-needed peace and quiet.

Other Forestry Tweaks

We’ve also made a bunch of other changes and fixes to Forestry this week.

First up, we’ve fixed a bug where the XP bonuses from the Felling Axes weren’t stacking as expected with the Lumberjack Outfit. It turns out this was the result of an over-zealous safety measure to prevent excess XP gains, so we’ve done a bit of pruning. The issue should now be fixed, but please let us know if you notice further abnormalities!

We’ve also removed all mentions of teas and tea brewing from the descriptions of Leaves. Speaking of descriptions, we’ve updated the text on the Twitcher’s Gloves to more accurately reflect that they are a stackable item used on every tree cut.

As hilarious as the typo was, we’re afraid that the Iron ‘Feeling’ Axe is no longer mentioned in the Skill Guide.

Lastly, we’ve had a few druids contact us claiming that certain players are able to cancel their Campfire-lighting animation midway to bring forth fire from thin air, without burning a single log. Obviously this is a crime against nature, so we’ve put a stop to it. As of today’s update, lighting Campfires will always require at least one log.

That’s all for Forestry this week, but do remember that we’re working hard behind the scenes to read through your feedback and decide on some bigger changes to bring Forestry in-line with your expectations. Stay tuned for more news soon!

Jagex Accounts Benefits

As part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October, we shared a blog to bring you up to speed on all things Account Security – including the many benefits of Jagex Accounts.

To be totally clear, getting yourself a Jagex Account is the number one way to protect your hard-earned gains, and we absolutely encourage you to check out the blog and think about upgrading, if you haven’t already.

To sweeten the deal, we’ve introduced a couple of in-game benefits especially for Jagex Account holders. Let’s take a peek…

The Stronghold of Security and Fancier Boots

It’s a debate that’s raged since the earliest days of the game: Fighting Boots or Fancy Boots? Neither side has made much progress (although for the record, this editor is Fancy all the way!) but today, we offer you a middle ground.

Jagex Account holders will no longer have to pick a side. Instead, they can swan on down to the Stronghold of Security and get themselves some Fancier Boots. This fantastic footwear combines the vibrance of Fancy Boots with the rugged sturdiness of their Fighting counterpart: snug, snazzy, and strong.

On the subject of boots, we’ve also made it easier to grab new ones from the Cradle of Life. You’re now allowed to have more than one type at a time, in unlimited quantities, and they’re storable in your Costume Room’s Armour Case. In addition, they’ll no longer be destroyed when dropped.

Count Check

Our next bulletin brings more disturbing news. It seems that vampyre activity is on the rise, even West of the River Salve. Count Check is on the move and he’s hungry for good Account Security practices…

Having enjoyed his stay in Lumbridge so far, Count Check has announced his intention to explore the rest of Gielinor, popping up randomly to check whether players’ Account Security is up to scratch.

If you have a Jagex Account and a Bank PIN enabled (UIMs are exempt from that last one), Count Check will offer you an XP Lamp offering XP equal to 10x your current level in the skill of your choice. Seems he got the idea from a Genie friend of his.

If he finds your Account Security lacking, the Count will instead offer you some advice about how to improve it. Once you have, you’ll be able to visit him in Lumbridge to claim one XP Lamp, as long as you’ve never had a reward from him before.

He’s also brushed up on his own knowledge and will now offer up-to-date advice about all things Account Security. He’s even spread the word to other tutors, including the Port Sarim Security Advisor and the Lumbridge Guide. What a nice man!

Also of note is that the Security Advisor in Lumbridge Graveyard seems to have disappeared. We’re sure it’s nothing to worry about.

Note that on ‘alternative’ worlds such as the Permanent Deadman World, 345, Count Check might have some trouble checking your account type. In these worlds, players will only have their Bank PIN checked.

So: if you haven’t already, get yourself a Jagex Account and snag some Fancier Fashionscape and extra XP Lamps! If you’re still on the fence, do have a read through the blog and learn why we’re pushing Jagex Accounts so hard – they really are the front line of defence for your characters.

Other Changes

No game update's complete without a handful of miscellaneous changes, so here they are!
  • Following the addition of Path of Glouphrie, players who've earned 300 Quest Points are now able to access an additional Slayer block slot - thanks to all of you who voted in the recent poll on this one!
  • Planks from the Sawmill can now be placed in the Plank Sack automatically. This change primarily benefits anybody using Sawmill Vouchers from Forestry: Part Two, though the change isn't strictly Forestry-related, so we popped it down here!
  • We've increased the 'value' of Angler and Spirit Angler outfits so that players are less likely to drop them without realising. Those of you with a particularly high 'drop item warning’ threshold might want to double-check your settings before doing too much shift-clicking with either of these outfits in your Inventory. Anybody with a threshold of 30,000 GP or higher should be fine. This also means these items are more likely to be protected on death, so make sure to check those interfaces if you're heading into dangerous terrain!
  • While we were adding the Count Check random event, we also tweaked a couple of others. The Genie, Dr. Jekyll, and Count Check himself will now be able to enter Banks. They won’t hang around for too long, but this should give you time to rootle through your Bank for that Herb Jekyll’s after.
    • Events that teleport the player, such as the Mime or Mr. Mordaut’s School, aren’t affected by this change.
  • Falo the Bard will now recognise the Barrelchest Anchor (bh) if he asks you to bring him a Barrelchest Anchor.
  • Dromund's cat no longer requires you to wear a Catspeak Amulet for dialogue once you've passed the required part of Dragon Slayer II.

That’s all for this week! Keep an eye out for further changes to Forestry and prepare for Leagues IV: Trailblazer Reloaded. Remember, there’s no game update next week, so the next time we see you will be League start. See you there…
