Forestry: Part Two

It’s time to don your most rugged plaid shirt and sharpen your axe, because Forestry: Part Two is here! In this update to the Woodcutting expansion released earlier this year, you can expect new rewards, new gear, and a cosy new way to train Firemaking. Let’s get into it!

New Events

Events are exciting activities that spawn while players are chopping a tree. Each event has its own mini-objective – complete it, and you’ll receive XP and Anima-Infused Bark… although some events have special goodies on offer, too.

Note that some events will only spawn when someone within the chopping group has a certain item in their Forestry Kit. The main components for each item are available in the Forestry Shop, along with a list of everything else you’ll need to craft them. It’s well worth doing so, because every time you contribute an item towards an event you receive the full rewards upon completion!

Here’s a list of new events to look out for:

Event Spawn Item Required Anima-Infused Bark Experience Unique Reward Members

Friendly Ent Chopping None Per Cut and End Reward Per Cut and End Reward None No

Bee Hive When Chopped Smoke Canister End Reward Per Log Added and End Reward Player-Owned House Bee Box Parts Yes

Pheasant Control Chopping Pheasant Spoon Per Egg Per Egg Pheasant Outfit and Golden Pheasant Egg Yes

Poachers When Chopped Trap Disarming Kit Per Trap Disarmed and End Reward Per Trap Disarmed and End Reward Fox Whistle Yes

Enchantment Ritual When Chopped Petal Circlet End Reward End Reward Petal Garland (Wearable) Yes

Leprechaun (Rework) When Chopped Leprechaun Charm Extra (from Rainbow Buff) Extra (from Rainbow Buff) Banking and Rainbow Buffs (NEW) Yes

Let’s have a look at these new events in detail!

[expand="more" type="show"]

Friendly Ent

This is the only event on the new roster that doesn’t require an item, which means it’s available to both Members and Free-to-play players!

While chopping, you may notice five curious entlings appear. These are creatures of both nature and style, apparently, because they need your help to give them a fancy new haircut!

Match their new ‘do to their request by clicking on an entling and interacting with the interface – or simply right-click them and choose the cutting action you’d like to perform!

For every satisfied customer you’ll gain some Woodcutting XP and some Anima-Infused Bark – and you’ll also receive an XP and reward drop at the end, based on how much time you spent in the event. Lastly, you’ll receive a random assortment of Leaves, a token amount of Fletching XP (scaled to your current level, for Members only) and the chance to receive an Egg Nest.

Bee Hive

In this buzzy event you’re tasked with helping some bumbling buddies find a new place to live! To activate the event, you or someone in your chopping team will need a Smoke Canister.

Help the infamous Bee Keeper rehome the bees by building temporary Bee Boxes for them to live in! Use any kind of log on the incomplete Bee Boxes to build them up. Rewards are based on quantity, not quality, so don’t worry about which logs you use – the bees aren’t picky!

You’ll gain a token amount of Construction XP for each log added, based on your contribution and your current Construction level. You’ll also receive a drop of XP and Anima-Infused Bark based on your contribution!

In the future, you’ll have the chance to obtain Bee Box Parts from this event, which can then be used to build a Bee Box for your Player-Owned House! Unfortunately, implementation has proved to be slightly more complex than expected, so this bonus reward won’t launch with this week’s update. We expect to release it with next week’s update, so keep an eye out for more news soon.

Pheasant Control

As you know, pheasants are a Forester’s arch-nemesis – but the Friendly Foresters prefer to deal with them in a less… stabby manner. With a Pheasant Spoon in your Forestry Kit, you’ll get a chance to help them on their mission.

Pheasant Nests will spawn around the tree. All but one contains a territorial pheasant protecting her eggs. Your mission is to locate the unguarded nest and loot the egg inside, before handing it over to the Forester. Watch out – you never know when the pheasant might return to her nest, so act quickly and nab those eggs! You may only carry one egg at a time (baby pheasants are unusually heavy, it seems) and if you get caught by the pheasants they’ll briefly stun you.

You’ll gain XP and Anima-Infused Bark for each egg you deliver. You’ll also have the chance to find Pheasant Feathers, which can crafted into grand Pheasant Outfit with a Needle and Thread – or, if you prefer, you can trade them for Anima-Infused Bark.

If you’re especially lucky, you’ll obtain a Golden Pheasant Egg, which you can use to transmog your Beaver pet. How pleasant!

Poachers

Cute, orange, and LOUD, foxes are a common sight all over Gielinor – but now they need your help. Nasty poachers are out to capture these wily woodland dwellers, and its up to you to intervene. All you need is a Trap Disarming Kit to make the event spawn.

Your task is to disarm the poachers’ traps. Once one player clicks a trap, everyone around has a short period in which to interact with it, which will contribute to the disarming process. Keep the foxes away from the traps, or they’ll be caught and lose some HP! Should they lose all their HP, they’ll scamper off to lick their wounds – so make sure to disarm all the traps first.

You’ll gain XP and Anima-Infused Bark for every trap you’ve helped disarm, as well as a big drop of XP and Bark depending on your contribution when the event ends.

If you’re very lucky, you may find a Fox Whistle, which will allow you to transmog your Beaver pet into a friendly Fox!

Enchantment Ritual

If you have a Petal Circlet on your person, a Dryad in distress may appear after a tree has been chopped down. She needs your help to complete a magical ritual to keep the forests of Gielinor safe.

During the event, a number of ritual spots of different colours and shapes will appear around the chopped tree. Stand on the odd one out to charge the Dryad’s magic and repeat until the ritual is complete.

After the event, along with the usual rewards, you’ll have the chance to obtain a wearable Petal Garland. Again, this reward can be traded in for Bark if you already have one.

Leprechaun Rework

You’re all familiar with the Leprechaun from Forestry: Part One. While you’ve been chopping, he’s been spending all that time walking to and from the Bank working on a surprise for you all!

As of today, the Leprechaun will also spawn rainbows in the area around him. Running into the rainbows will grant you a buff that not only grants additional XP, but also gives you the chance to obtain Anima-Infused Bark from simply chopping trees.

The more rainbows you interact with, the longer this buff will last. Those with a Leprechaun Charm on them will benefit even more from these buffs, so come prepared!

And don’t worry – despite his new rainbow-conjuring skills, the Leprechaun is still willing to drop your resources off at the Bank. What a nice fellow!

[/expand]

New Rewards

Today’s update also adds a selection of new rewards!

Forestry Shop Items

These useful components are available from the Forestry Shop and can help you craft items for attracting events.

Item Cost Skill Requirements Other Components

Smoke Fuel (x10) 300 Anima-Infused Bark and 15 Maple Logs (Noted) 37 Herblore, 53 Smithing and 53 Woodcutting Leather + Steel Bar

Egg Cushion (x10) 300 Anima-Infused Bark and 15 Maple Logs (Noted) 35 Mining and 25 Woodcutting Limestone + Chisel

Trap Disarmer Blueprint (x10) 300 Anima-Infused Bark and 15 Willow Logs (Noted) 16 Hunter and 15 Woodcutting Bronze Wire + Iron Bar

Crystal Charm (x10) 300 Anima-Infused Bark and 15 Maple Logs (Noted) 50 Fletching and 50 Woodcutting 3x Flowers + Ball of Wool

Two-Handed Axe - Cost: 10,000 Anima-Infused Bark + 500 Oak Logs (Noted)

We’ll start with the big one: the Two-Handed Axe! Pick up a Felling Axe Handle from the Forestry Store and you can use it to change almost any axe into a powerful Two-Handed variant! Bronze, Iron, Steel, Black, Mithril, Adamant, Rune, Dragon, Crystal and 3rd Age axes are all eligible, and while the process is irreversible, both the Felling Axe Handle and the Two-Handed Axes are tradeable on the Grand Exchange.

While it chops at the same speed as a regular axe, the Two-Handed versions offer something extra. While you have Forester’s Rations in your Forestry Kit, each successful chop will give you 10% more XP and 20% chance not to obtain a log. The Rations are automatically consumed. If you’re out of Rations, the axe will function like any other – so make sure you stock up!

Now that Rations are a hot commodity, we’ve also improved the recipe. As of today’s update, higher-tier leaves will give you extra Rations, and combining it with Fish will also increase the number of Rations you obtain!

Here’s the base level for each leaf type:
  • Normal Leaves: 2 Rations
  • Oak Leaves: 4 Rations
  • Willow Leaves: 6 Rations
  • Maple Leaves: 8 Rations
  • Yew Leaves: 10 Rations
  • Magic Leaves: 12 Rations

In addition, using different tiers of Fish will multiply that base number:
  • Level 1 - 33 Fish: 1x Rations
  • Level 34 - 69 Fish or Cooked Meat: 2x Rations
  • Level 70 - 99 Fish: 3x Rations

So, if you’re cooking up Rations from Oak Leaves and a Cooked Herring, you’ll create 4 Rations – but if you’re using Magic Leaves and Cooked Shark, you’ll get a whopping 36 Rations each time!

Sawmill Voucher - Cost: 150 Anima-Infused Bark (10 Vouchers)

This stackable and tradeable little ticket will let you receive two planks for every log used at the Sawmill – what a deal!

Vouchers are only consumed if you have space for the planks, so there’s no chance of spending all those Vouchers just to drop a bunch of resources on the floor. The Vouchers also work with the Make Plank Spell!

Twitcher's Gloves - Cost: 250 Anima-Infused Bark + 25 Willow Logs (Noted) (250 Charges)

These bird-nerd handwarmers are perfect for nest-hunters, and they come fully charged from the Forestry Shop!

With these Gloves equipped, you’ll have a 10% increased chance to receive any one type of Bird’s Nest, including:
  • Ring Nests
  • Egg Nests
  • Seed Nests
  • Clue Nests

Every time you obtain a log, a charge will be consumed. Note that the effect only applies while Woodcutting.

Cape Pouch - Cost: 2,500 Anima-Infused Bark + 25 Willow Logs (Noted)

If you’ve already put in the work and reached 99 Woodcutting, this reward is for you! Use it on the Forestry Kit and gain the ability to store your Cape inside it and benefit from its 10% increased Bird’s Nest chance. You must have the Forestry Kit equipped to enable this effect.

Forester's Campfires

Now for the main event: Campfires!

Outside of battling the fearsome Wintertodt, the norm for Firemaking training involves a lot of clicking on the floor. To fit with the chill vibes of Forestry, we’re introducing something a little less click-intensive!

As of today’s update, you’ll be able to create Campfires, which let you add and burn logs one at a time, for a third of the usual XP. You’ll gain roughly 50% less XP per hour, but at least we’ll finally discover what’s on the floor of the Grand Exchange – and you can give your poor mouse a rest for a while! Campfires deplete over time, so be sure to keep them stocked with a steady supply of fresh logs.

Smaller Tweaks and Changes

Lastly, we have a selection of QoL changes to existing Forestry content:

  • We’ve added the following items to the Collection Log:
    • Woodcutting Cape Pouch
    • Twitcher's Gloves
    • Felling Axe Handle
    • Pheasant Outfit
    • Fox Whistle
    • Golden Pheasant Egg
  • All versions of the Forestry Kit, Log Basket and Forestry Basket can now be stored in the Player-Owned House.
  • All Leaves are now stackable.
  • Mulch now has different Inventory icons which change depending on how much Mulch you have.
  • The Struggling Sapling event now gives Farming XP based on Farming level and potency of Mulch.

Lastly, we’ve added a feature which lets you withdraw logs from your Log Basket and Forestry Basket straight into your Inventory. To do so, simply Check your Basket. If you prefer, you can still use the Baskets on a Bank Booth to empty them into your Inventory, or ‘Use’ them while in the Bank interface to empty them there.

We’ve also seen a lot of comments suggesting that players should be able to deposit directly into the Bank while gear like this is still equipped. We’re still discussing the feasibility of such a change but hope to have an update for you in the near future.

That’s all for Forestry: Part 2! Make your way to a Forestry world to get chopping!

In the meanwhile, though, we have a second miner update…

Shooting Stars

Today’s update also launches a slew of changes to Shooting Stars, as outlined in our previous newspost.

First up, Stars will now only spawn between Tier 6 and Tier 9, which reduces the total time of each ‘wave’ from 128 minutes to 90 minutes. Here’s the chances of encountering each tier:

Tier Chance of spawning

6 25%

7 30%

8 25%

9 20%

In addition, to make Star degradation rates consistent regardless of size, each tier now lasts for 7 minutes before degrading, assuming there’s at least one player Mining the Star.

This means that a tier 9 star will last 63 minutes, down from the current time of around 86 minutes.

Each tier will now also give a consistent 32 XP when obtaining Stardust. In addition, your chances of obtaining Stardust at all now scale with your Mining level, from 29% at Level 1 up to 46% at Level 99.

Finally, we have a few small changes:
  • Clue Scrolls are once again obtainable from Mining Stars.
  • Stars in Prifddinas no longer give Crystal Shards.
  • Random Events and Cannons will now be disabled in areas around Stars.

Lastly, please note that Stars will begin landing 20-50 minutes after the game worlds reboot, and then roughly every 90 minutes after that.

Other Changes

  • An active Spellbook Swap is now cancelled at the beginning of Last Man Standing.
  • The 'Change' option now works on the Cobweb Cape and transforms it into the more familiar Web Cape.

We want to be upfront here, this year's event is largely the same as last year's well-received trick-or-treating community event. We know that's going to disappoint a lot of you who look forward to these small slices of silly seasonal spookiness.

The reason is simple: Varlamore is shaping up to be Old School's biggest launch to date and with Leagues IV on the horizon, plus other upcoming QOL changes to content like the Chambers of Xeric, we've made the decision to prioritise development of these bigger projects. Whilst you'll be replaying last year's event, we hope you understand our reasoning (even if you may disagree with the decision) and we hope that you'll appreciate the tweaks to the community goal and enjoy the new cosmetic rewards!

Rest assured our long-term plan is to continue with the short story-driven holiday events that are so core to Old School. That said, we'd like your thoughts on how we approach this year's Christmas event. We were considering re-running 2013's Christmas event (which is a much older event itself from 2006). We're conscious that many of you won't have played this event before (or at least not for many, many years, way back in RuneScape 2!) and we think you'll enjoy the nostalgic trip! Alongside that, we're leaning towards having Old School's 11th Anniversary event be primarily a community celebration rather than any in-game content. What do you think? Let us know your thoughts.

Halloween 2023

TRICK OR TREATING IS BACK! But with slightly more spiders…

Once again, we're hearing reports of sweet treats popping out of trees, rocks and fishing spots all over Gielinor. NPCs are getting into the Halloween spirit too, with treats for the deserving - and tricks for the most unfortunate souls!

Much like our last Halloween event, you'll be working as one spooky collective to gather all the treats possible and fill up the Community Cauldron. However, the targets should be easier to reach this time! Let's get this cauldron overflowing!

While most of the action takes place in and around Varrock, you’ll also find a few chatty NPCs further afield that are definitely worth interacting with. Who might be likely candidates for seasonal treats? Perhaps it’s time to visit your elders…

We've also got some brand new rewards for you this year, so bring your best scary face and a handful of tricks to snag yourself some ‘wicked’ cosmetic treats...

This event as no prerequisites, so everyone can join in a celebration of the spookiest of seasons. We'll see you there!

Other Changes

After reviewing the Bond Pouch interface, we've given it a little redesign, making it smoother to use when moving/purchasing Bonds for your journey across Gielinor! The Bond Pouch interface is still accessed through the Account Management menu.

Here's a list of the changes we've made:
  • More accessible buttons for depositing/withdrawing multiple Bonds.
  • Highlights on the number of Bonds in your Inventory and Bank.
  • Additional warnings for Iron players.
  • Updated information about Bond usage and acquisition.
  • Text and readability improvements.

And we've got a few more tweaks this week too:
  • Using a new option on the Settings menu, you can now select whether compass options like 'Look North' should affect the vertical angle of the camera when used.
  • Kamfreena and Lorelai now recognise trimmed Rune Defenders when discussing their cyclops rooms.
  • Vesta's Blighted Longsword and its Bounty Hunter counterpart can now be used in the Clan Wars Free-for-all arena (they could already be used in Clan Wars challenged battles if enabled in the battle's options).

Crack The Clue 3

It's been a little while since Crack The Clue 3 wrapped up, but we wanted to take a moment to congratulate the winner - and all those who participated in Woox's puzzling challenge! The board inside the Mysterious Old Man's house in Falador will be updated today with all the names. We'd like to give a quick shoutout to SuhDude for helping us confirm the individuals involved!

Winner:
  • Spider1357

Step Solvers:

Merch Update - New Novels!

RuneScape: The Gift of Guthix, the first of three planned new novels from Titan Books, will be published May 2024 - and it’s now available for pre-order!

Asgarnia’s fate hangs in the balance. Disparate tribes unite under the banner of Lord Raddalin, and his enemies look on in fear and hatred. Raddalin’s advisors – an uneasy alliance of Black and White knights – whisper of a discovery in the North that will give them the power to change everything.

Caught in the midst of history, a lowly scribe and the son of a Jarl hold the fate of Raddalin’s new kingdom in their hands.

From the glorious inauguration of King Raddalin’s reign to the disgraceful expulsion of the Zamorakians from Asgarnia, The Gift of Guthix tells an epic tale of the origin of magic, the plight of civil war, and the crushing defeat of the Fremennik Great Invasion. Amongst plots and betrayals, a penitent turncoat waits for her moment to leap into the unknown...

The novel will be penned by Erin M. Evans, the author of seven Forgotten Realms novels for Wizards of the Coast, including the 2011 Scribe Award winner Brimstone Angels.

GAME JAM IV

Is it really the end of 2023 already? Where’d summer go?

Now that we’re entering the last quarter of the year, we’re gearing up for another Game Jam! From October 2nd through to October 12th, the team will be working together on their passion projects!

Accordingly, there will be no update on Wednesday, October 10.

Previous Game Jams have led to projects like Perilous Moons, the Blood Torva visual update, LMS Game Modes, Forestry and the Path of Glouphrie – so we’re as excited as you are to see what fantastic ideas the J-Mods come up with this time.

Not every Game Jam project makes it to the game, and sometimes, they look very different from how they started. For example, the Tasakaal Trials, originally pitched as a Kourend update, have transformed into the Fortis Colosseum minigame, which you’ll get to try when the first part of Varlamore releases next year.

We’ll be showing off our projects on an upcoming livestream, with another catch-up in November’s Gazette. Keep an eye on the #OSRSGameJam hashtag to see all the previews throughout the jam!

World 45 and PvP Changes

We’re taking learnings from Deadman: Apocalypse and applying them to the Permanent Deadman World!

This week’s first update is all about experience. Firstly, XP gained from quests and rewards now scales in line with your time played and your skill level, like the rest of the experience in Deadman mode. For clarification, with Protection (the first 12 hours), experience gained is 20x at level 1 through to 10x at level 50+. With No Protection, experience gained is 10x at level 1 through to 5x at level 50+.

Next up, you will no longer lose experience when dying on the Permanent Deadman world. You’ll still have to say goodbye to the 10 most valuable items in your Bank and everything currently on your person, but at least you won’t have to earn your levels back! If you previously insured experience with Gelin, you may speak to her for a refund once today’s update goes live.

Across all worlds, we’ve also added some more items to Perdu's Lost Property Shop:
  • Book of the Dead
  • Ivandis Flail
  • Ava's Devices (Ava's Attractor, Ava's Accumulator, Ava's Assembler)
  • Chronicle

Additionally, the above items and the following can now be purchased in bulk from Perdu:
  • Lunar Ring
  • Beacon Ring
  • God Books (Holy Book, Unholy Book, Book of Balance, Book of War, Book of Law, Book of Darkness)

Finally, we’ve seen your comments about alternate accounts gaining advantages in Bounty Hunter. As of today’s update, players who are already in combat will have a 1-second PJ timer against special attacks, giving them time to react accordingly.

Other Changes

  • Players in Guardians of the Rift may now get Mining experience from 250 Fragments per game. After this point, any fragments gathered give no experience.
  • You can now click through the transparent parts of the Skill Guide.
  • The Desert Treasure II bosses now drop clues for longer durations, as is common in instanced areas.
  • Players with Stardust in their Inventory can once again access the jewellery-making menus by left-clicking on furnaces.
  • Options on the gameframe compass, used to point the camera in different directions, no longer affect the vertical angle.
  • Removed a rogue green pixel on the Warped Sceptre’s attack animation.
  • Fixed a visual bug with the roof above the north entrance to Ver Sinhaza.

The Scar Essence Mine | September 27th

This week’s update takes us to the depths of the Scar Essence Mine!

The Scar Essence Mine

Our old friend Aubury has had some bad news this week – it seems that there’s a new source of Runes in town!

The upkeep of high-level items like the Scythe of Vitur and the Sanguinesti Staff can be a real hassle – especially when you’re about to set off for a nice PvM session! Many an aspiring boss slayer has been forced into ShopScape – the practice of hopping worlds, searching for a store where the coveted goods are in stock – and in general, we want that to stop as much as you do. So, in line with that policy, today’s update introduces a more engaging way to grab the Runes you need!

The Scar Essence mine integrates with Runecraft to let players craft the game’s most useful Runes in a more exciting way – and the best part is, it won’t mess up the economy!

Shall we find out more?

Requirements

To get started in the Scar Essence Mine, you'll need to meet the following requirements:
  • Partial completion of Desert Treasure II, to the point of unlocking the Abyssal Scar.
    • Defeating any of the Desert Treasure II bosses is not required – the Scar is accessible just after the beginning of the quest.
  • The requisite Runecraft level for the Runes you plan to craft.
  • Level 66 Mining – don’t forget your Pickaxe!

The Abyssal Extractor

The Abyssal Extractor, known to its friends as Ventriculus, can be found in the Abyssal Scar. It has two functions: creating Pure Essence and creating Extracts – and thanks to an enterprising member of the ZMI, anyone can now take advantage of this magnificent… thing. We thought it best not to ask too many questions.

To make it work, you’ll need to feed it Tainted Essence. Tainted Essence is a lot like Pure Essence, with the notable difference that the abyssal energies of the Scar have warped it beyond all recognition. Instead of a lump of cool, malleable rock, it’s a twisted amalgamation of Runes, raw Essence, and abyssal flesh. Delightful! As gross as it is, it’s going to come in handy.

Firstly, you can stick your Tainted Essence into the Extractor. In exchange for a bit of GP, it’ll suck out all the wrong types of runic energy and compress the rest, leaving you with stackable Extracts that serve as catalysts for Runecraft. This will let you craft significantly more of the corresponding Runes!

Alternatively, you can clean your Tainted Essence to turn it back into Pure Essence. This method will create up to 10,000 Pure Essence per hour. It’s a faster (and free!) way to get your hands on this vital Runecraft component.

We’ve put together this handy flowchart to make the process clear:

Further information about costs, balancing and general design can be found in this newspost.

Other Changes

Poll 80

Today’s Poll 80 update introduces the new-and-improved Skill Guide!
  • Opening the Skill Guide no longer pauses actions.
  • On PC, the Skill Guide can now be moved around and resized by clicking and dragging the title bar.
    • The position will be remembered next time you open the window.
  • The new Skill Guide style can be selected from the Settings menu.

Other Improvements
  • A common type of tree stump found around Falador, Varrock and the Pest Control minigame no longer blocks players from ranging over it.
    • Some of the Pest Control towers may be a little better for snipers now.
  • Fixed a bug where Player-Owned House dungeons in the 'Basic wood', 'Basic stone', 'Whitewashed stone' and 'Fremennik-style wood' house styles didn’t permit multi-way combat, despite having a multi-way combat icon.
  • The 3-tick teleport delay in the single-way Wilderness Boss lairs now only applies if you have recently attacked the bosses.
  • On the Permanent Deadman world, PK skulls obtained from combat are now only 5 minutes long, as they were in the Apocalypse seasonal worlds, rather than lasting between 15 and 30 minutes.
    • The opponent's combat level no longer affects their duration.
  • Attacking any skulled player now gives a PK skull on the Permanent Deadman World.
  • Once the Beta Worlds open, players will now be able to reset their saved game profiles via a new option on the Settings menu.

Note that we’re hard at work implementing further changes to the Permanent Deadman World, including removing XP loss on death and giving XP multipliers for quest rewards. Keep your eyes peeled for these improvements in coming weeks!

Leagues IV Home Teleport Animation

Our wonderfully talented Art Team has been hard at work getting the cosmetics ready in time for Leagues IV: Trailblazer Reloaded!

Today we’d like to show off a new concept for the Home Teleport we initially showcased in the Leagues IV blog. The original looked a bit too similar to the one awarded through Quest Speedrunning, so here’s something different!

Fun fact: the reason we’re able to show you a full animation instead of just concept art is that this Home Teleport was developed for the original Trailblazer League! Originally, we wanted the cosmetics to use a ‘blazing’ theme – like Trailblazer, get it? We eventually went with a ‘travel’ theme instead – but now that we’re ‘firing up’ Trailblazer again, we think it’s the perfect time to let this fiery animation fly.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the flames, or do we need to cool off? Let us know your thoughts!

Community Feedback Request: Shooting Stars

After a somewhat rocky start, we’re happy to see the community enjoying the latest Shooting Stars update. We’d especially like to congratulate the Starminers Discord for bringing the Old School community together.

The sheer number of players engaging with this update tells us we’re on the right track when it comes to our Mining improvements – although there’s one slight problem we need to address.

You see, Shooting Stars has become so popular that worlds are now experiencing unexpected lag due to the number of players logging on to mine Stars. The sudden uptick in logins causes a lag spike, which persists until the Star is depleted and everyone logs off to find the next one.

The below graph illustrates the tick time increase relative to the life cycle of a Star on September 25th. As you can see, tick time gradually increases as more players log on, and drops drastically when the Star is depleted.

Unfortunately, this is a big problem for the game. If we don’t take action to protect our servers, these lag spikes could become even more serious down the road. That said, we really want to keep the positivity going – so we’re keeping the changes to Shooting Stars while encouraging you all to spread out just a little more.

As always, we’re committed to working with you all on this issue – and we’ve already seen some fantastic suggestions from the community.

We’ve seen players call for Stars to be ringfenced to certain worlds, in the hope that they won’t affect the rest. However, this still means that these worlds will be extra affected – so we’re doing you one better. As well as creating designated ‘Star worlds’, we plan to have identical stars of the same tier and location fall at the same time across every designated world, thereby encouraging players to spread between them.

We’re aware that some of you prefer big Stars to small ones, and vice versa. We’re considering implementing two sets of Star worlds, with big Stars in one set and small Stars in the other.

After considering several options, we think that this is the best solution we have right now – but we’re aware it isn’t perfect. For one thing, these identical Stars would all land and deplete at the same time, so it will be harder to jump to another Star immediately afterwards. Secondly, if the Stars all land in the same place, there may be players who can't yet access that area and will have to twiddle their thumbs until the next set of Stars land. We want to work with you to figure out how best to approach this problem.

If you have strong feelings about the solution we’ve pitched above, click the button below to complete a survey on the matter. We’re also looking for alternative ideas, so let us know your thoughts!

In the meantime, it’s clear that the community wants Mining improvements sooner rather than later. This is something we’re actively looking into, so stay tuned, and keep sending your feedback!

Further Poll 80 Changes & More! | September 20th

Today we’re launching a flotilla of Poll 80 changes! Keep reading to learn more…

There will be 30 minutes of downtime with this week's update, with game worlds expected to be back up by 12:00 BST. If you're a mobile user, you may need to manually update the Old School RuneScape App via the App store to ensure you have the latest version.

Poll 80

Wilderness Boss Lairs

Our first stop in the update train is the Wilderness, where we’ve made a few improvements to the Wilderness Boss Lairs:
  • Players are now unable to teleport out of the Wilderness Boss Caves for 3 ticks after they enter.
    • This delay can be avoided if you have completed the Wilderness Hard Diary.
  • The 1-tick animation delay for everyone entering the dungeon has now been removed.

Wilderness Hard Diary Unlocks

Just to clarify, here are the new bonuses you’ll receive if you’ve completed the Wilderness Hard Diary:
  • The teleport delay in the Revenant Caves will no longer apply to you.
  • The teleport delay in the Wilderness Boss Caves will no longer apply to you.

Enjoy those speedy teleports – you’ve earned ‘em!

Wilderness Medium Diary

You now need to have completed the Medium Wilderness Achievement Diary to access Spindel, Artio and Calvar'ion.

Callisto Changes

Next up, we’re visiting the bear in the big scary lair! Here are the improvements we’ve made to Callisto and her little buddy Artio:
  • Callisto and Artio should now both take damage from Magic attacks from any source.
    • Additionally, if they are not already frozen and the attacking player has equipment with a total Magic accuracy greater than 0, the first attack that would freeze the boss is guaranteed to hit.
    • Future hits while the boss is frozen are not guaranteed to hit.
  • We've augmented their Magic defence to compensate for this change.
    • Callisto's base Magic level has been raised, visible in the far-left tab of Monster Examine.
  • Callisto's chip damage has been removed.
  • Callisto's Ranged attack will no longer deal damage through the relevant protection Prayer.

Blighted Magic Sacks

You can now cast all your favourite spells with just one item!
  • Bind/Snare Sacks have been converted into Entangle Sacks. Entangle Sacks can also cast Bind/Snare if players have the required Magic level.
    • The conversion rate is 1 Entangle for 13 Bind, 1 Entangle for 3 Snares (rounded down).
  • Wave Sacks have been converted into Surge Sacks. Surge Sacks can also cast Wave spells if players have the required Magic level.

Existing Sacks will be converted upon login for all players. Non-UIMs will have Sacks sent to the Bank, and UIMs will have them arrive in their Inventory if they have any to convert.

In other Blighted news:
  • Blighted food can now be used anywhere in PvP Worlds. Non-PvP Worlds are unaffected by this change.

Repair Cost Changes

To make PK victory even sweeter, we're bumping up the repair cost for certain PvP items. As you’re all aware, the repair cost is dropped to the PKer below level 20 Wilderness, so this is a sweet deal! Here’s how it works:
  • Dragon Defender repair cost has been increased from 80,000 to 240,000 GP
  • Avernic Defender repair cost has been increased from 300,000 to 600,000 GP
  • Ava’s Assembler repair cost has been increased from 75,000 to 240,000 GP
  • Full Void repair cost increased from 300,000 to 640,000 GP
    • Any Helmet – 160,000 GP
    • Void Body – 180,000 GP
    • Void Bottom – 180,000 GP
    • Void Gloves – 120,000 GP
  • Elite Void repair cost has been increased from 400,000 to 780,000 GP
    • Elite Void Body – 250,000 GP
    • Elite Void Bottom – 250,000 GP

During our internal playtests, we also decided on the following additional changes:
  • Infernal Cape repair cost has been increased from 75,000 to 225,000 GP
  • Fire Cape and Fighter Torso repair cost has been increased from 50,000 to 150,000 GP

Avernic Defender and Elidinis Ward Values

The Trouver version of the Avernic Defenders will now only protect to the value of the Trouver parchment and 500,000 GP fee, meaning that it won't rank higher than another item such as a Berserker Ring for example. Conversely, we've made a change so that a fortified Elidinis Ward will now protect to the combined values of the Elidinis Ward and the Arcane Sigil, meaning it will rank highly over other items on death.

For now, we've only adjusted the value of these two items. Let us know if you’d like to see this change applied to more stuff!

Splash Weapons Are Back

Certain holiday items now have -100 Combat bonuses, allowing them to behave as splash weaponry. They are, in fact, unable to deal any damage whatsoever! Here they are:
  • Cursed Goblin Hammer
  • Easter 2020 Carrot Sword
  • Halloween 2016 Hunting Knife
  • Christmas 2022 Nutcracker Staff

Other Changes

Emptying Sacks, Pouches, Boxes and Bags on Death

Back in the summer, we updated the Rune Pouch so that upon PvM death the Runes would stay inside it, rather than mysteriously being shaken out all over your grave.

It seems you really enjoy not having to manually put all your bits and bobs back in the Pouch, because you’ve asked that we expand this system to other, similar containers.

You asked, and we delivered! The following items will now behave similarly:
  • Bolt Pouch
  • Seed Box
  • Tackle Box
  • Essence Pouches
  • Herb Sack

If you’re one of the few who really enjoy putting things into bags and sacks one by one (or if you’re an Ultimate Iron Man), you can choose to disable this behaviour in the Settings Menu. Happy packing!

Note that this setting applies only to deaths where the container item is sent to a grave – if it’s destroyed, the contents will still fall out regardless of the setting. In PvP, the contents will most likely go to your PKer.

As a side-effect of this update, dying in deep Wilderness PvM now means that your Seed Box and Bolt Pouch can be retrieved from your grave, instead of having to be repurchased. Hooray!

Shooting Stars Buff

You’ve been sharing some truly wild low-intensity Mining methods on socials, so we thought it was time to put you (and the Duke) out of your misery and launch a buff for Shooting Stars:
  • Shooting Stars no longer deplete faster when more people are Mining them. No more pesky fellow players interfering with your precious AFK time!
  • In addition, your character will no longer occasionally render behind the Shooting Star you’re Mining.

We know this change won’t fix all the issues players have raised with Mining, but it’s a good step in the right direction. We’ll continue to monitor the conversation on this subject, so please keep voicing your feedback! We really appreciate all the suggestions we’ve seen so far – even the weird ones.

Bug Fixes
  • The Warped Sceptre’s projectile height has been adjusted to match the Sceptre.
  • Duke Sucellus’ 5-minute inactivity timer now restarts if you click the Salt again.
  • Implemented a log-in check to ensure that Sigils and other unwanted items do not appear on World 45.

Path of Glouphrie

We hope you’ve enjoyed getting stuck into our latest quest and the fetid poison cave that came with it!

The Warped Sceptre has received glowing feedback from the community, and we’re happy to have filled a small gap in the Ironman grind. In accordance with tradition, we can now confirm that the drop rate for the Warped Sceptre is 1/320.

We also have a single change launching this week, in line with your feedback:
  • The Poison Waste Spirit Tree has been moved to the end of the list.

Any future Spirit Trees will also be placed at the end of the list, so you can give your muscle memory a break. In the future, we’d like to make this a fully customisable feature, although that’s not something we’re able to commit development time to just yet. Let us know if it’s something you’d be interested in!

Upcoming Poll, September 25th

Three additional questions will be added to the Hunter Guild poll starting on September 25th:

Should we change the Dragonfire Shield's fiery attack to reward only Defence experience in both PvM and PvP?

Should we add an additional Slayer Task Block Slot, unlocked at 300QP?

These ones shouldn’t come as a surprise – after all, we talked about them just the other day! The third question, however, needs a bit of context.

The Shooting Stars changes that go live this week were received well by the community – it’s great to not have to AFK in total isolation to get the most out of your Stars. However, some of you raised that you feel you’ve lost the key incentive to solo scout Shooting Stars. We can see that although this change doesn’t actually take anything away, it has made finding a Star all by yourself less exciting. So, next week’s poll will also contain the following question:

Should we once again reward the first player to discover a Shooting Star? This would double the amount of Stardust you mine until you have gained 300 extra Stardust. This bonus will not expire and can be used on any Star you come across. Should you be the first to find another Star, any remaining bonus will recharge back to 300.

We’re not comfortable adding an XP boost for solo-scouted Stars until we’ve seen the full effects of the recent changes – but we’ll keep in mind all your feedback about how Mining feels as we move forward!

Mobile TLI Beta

Today’s update also brings the foundations of the Mobile TLI Beta. From tomorrow, Thursday 21st, you’ll have access to exclusive Beta worlds which use the new mobile UI. In a Beta worlds first, you’ll also have access to a copy of your main game save, so you can try playing exactly how you’re used to while taking the new UI for a test drive.

PLEASE NOTE: We've pushed an update that many players will get automatically but please check your App store to make sure you have the latest version - install any update that is available to you to ensure you're all set to continue your adventures!

If you’d like to use your main game save on a Beta world, we recommend first logging into a normal world and making your way to the Settings menu. Select Gameplay and scroll down to the bottom to see the new Beta worlds options.

Here, you’ll be able to convert a save for use on the Beta worlds or reset your current Beta worlds save for a fresh experience. Without a converted save, you’ll be shunted back to Tutorial Island with the rest of the n00bs – although since this is a Beta world, you’ll be offered a handy teleport to the mainland if you’d like to start your adventure right away.

You'll be able to access the content in the following worlds:
  • World 585 - AUS
  • World 586 - GER
  • World 587 - UK
  • World 588 - US West
  • World 589 - US East

Once you’re done playing around in the Beta, simply switch to a normal world and resume playing however you normally would.

This has been a big project, and we’re excited to hear your feedback. We’ll be keeping a close eye on discussion, so feel free to join the conversation on the Official Old School Discord’s Mobile Beta channels.

To leave your feedback, simply head to the Official Old School Discord and find the ‘OSRS Mobile’ category. From there, you'll see plenty of channels to leave your feedback.

Below you’ll also find a Mobile UI Beta Survey (ooh!) where you can tell us your thoughts. We’ll be paying close attention to all your feedback to make sure the next steps are aligned with the community’s expectations – so be sure to let us know what you think!

The Path of Glouphrie | September 13th

Today’s update brings a long-awaited sequel…

The Path of Glouphrie

As part of our last Game Jam, we began the process of porting another iconic RuneScape quest to Old School RuneScape – and made a few improvements while we were at it!

Give a warm welcome to The Path of Glouphrie, the sequel to The Eyes of Glouphrie and the next part in the gnome questline.

In The Eyes of Glouphrie, you revealed a sinister espionage plot aimed at the Gnome Stronghold. Now it seems that King Bolren has acquired a worrying new pet. It appears that Glouphrie’s next target is the Tree Gnome Village… what could he be planning?

Start the quest by speaking to King Bolren in the Tree Gnome Village!

If you can't see the video above, click here to play it!

Requirements and Rewards
  • Completion of The Eyes of Glouphrie, Waterfall Quest and Tree Gnome Village
  • 60 Strength
  • 56 Slayer
  • 56 Thieving
  • 47 Ranged
  • 45 Agility

Upon completion you'll be rewarded with:
  • 2 Quest Points
  • Poison Waste Dungeon Access
  • Two Lamps offering a total of 20,000 Slayer XP and 5,000 Thieving XP
  • Two Lamps offering a total of 30,000 Strength XP and 5,000 Magic XP

New Poison Waste Dungeon

Upon completion of The Path of Glouphrie, you'll also gain access to a brand-new (for Old School) Slayer Dungeon

Here, you’ll have the chance to take on deadly Warped Tortoises and Terrorbirds. But wait – these aren’t the beasties you remember. We’ve taken the opportunity to totally rebalance their stats and loot tables – and while we were at it, we’ve also implemented a few other quality of life changes:
  • Players no longer need to use a Crystal Chime on Warped Tortoises and Terrorbirds during a fight. Instead, they need only have one in their Inventory.
  • Crystal Chimes are now made from a separate Crystal Seed than the Crystal Saw. No more swapping between them!
  • The dungeon creatures share a single ‘warped creatures’ Slayer Task, rather than having individual ones.
    • This Slayer Task is opt-in, so you’ll need to unlock it.
    • We’re also polling an additional block slot unlocked at 300 Quest Points.

The Warped Sceptre

We’ve also added an Old School-exclusive unique drop to the Poison Waste Dungeon – the Warped Sceptre. This mid-level item is a drop from the Warped Creatures, which can be killed off-task if you so choose.

While the drop rates will remain a secret on the first day of the quest, as is tradition, we promise to release them soon.

In terms of the current meta, you’ll find that Iban’s Staff will outperform the Warped Sceptre in raw DPS until you hit level 81 Magic, at which point its damage output will be higher. For those of you with lower Magic levels, you’ll find that the Warped Sceptre is still a great mid-level unlock, and almost certainly something you’ll want to work towards before you get your hands on your first Trident.

As the Warped Sceptre is a self-powered staff, you’ll be able to use it with any Spellbook you choose. Its other strength is its high attack speed, which means that boosts to Magic damage from Elidinis’ Ward, the Occult Necklace, the Imbued God Capes, and other items will scale more effectively with the Warped Sceptre than with Iban’s Staff.

Finally, it looks awesome. Check out the claws!

Future Polled Additional Slayer Block Slot

The release of Path of Glouphrie means that there are now a whopping 300 Quest Points available for you spacebar-smashing crusaders to get your hands on.

Currently, every 50 Quest Points unlocks a new Slayer block slot. We considered building this into today’s update, but since this addition significantly alters existing Slayer metas, we thought we’d poll it just in case.

You’ll be able to cast your vote on this issue in our next poll, which is currently scheduled for the end of September. If this change passes, you can expect it to launch fairly quickly – so you won’t have to wait too long!

Mobile TLI Beta

Today’s update also brings the foundations for the Mobile TLI Beta. From tomorrow, Thursday 14th, you’ll have access to exclusive Beta worlds which use the new mobile UI. In a Beta worlds first, you’ll also have access to a copy of your main game save, so you can try playing exactly how you’re used to while taking the new UI for a test drive.

PLEASE NOTE: TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS BETA YOU WILL NEED TO MANUALLY UPDATE THE OLD SCHOOL RUNESCAPE MOBILE CLIENT BY VISITING THE GOOGLE PLAY OR APP STORE. IF THIS IS NOT DONE, YOU WILL EXPERIENCE UI ISSUES WHEN SWITCHING BETWEEN BETA AND NON-BETA WORLDS.

Once you’re finished playing around in the Beta, simply switch to a normal world and resume playing however you normally would.

This has been a big project, and we’re excited to hear your feedback. We’ll be keeping a close eye on discussion so feel free to join the conversation on the Official Old School Discord’s Mobile Beta channels.

To leave your feedback, simply head to the Official Old School Discord and find the "OSRS Mobile" category.

Other Changes

We’re also launching a Poll 80 change today! As of this update, the Wintertodt respawn timer is now fixed at one minute. A handy countdown will appear in the empty energy bar.

The remaining high-priority Poll 80 changes are coming next week – including the Callisto chip damage changes and the Medium Diary requirement for Wilderness bosses. Community feedback has told us that these changes are very important to you, so we hope you’re looking forward to ‘em!

Speaking of our lovely community, you’ve been having some heated discussions regarding a new AFK Mining method developed after the Desert Treasure II launch. You resourceful lot have been using the Salt deposits in the Duke’s fight to mine to your heart’s content! While we admire your tenacity, we don’t feel that this method is good for the game. We love a good low-intensity training method, but this appears to be ‘free XP’ – and we don’t like that.

We’ve seen all sides of the conversation and understand that some of you don’t see any harm in keeping this unintended training method around. However, we hope that you trust us to do what’s best for the game – and in this case, that means making this method unviable.

As of today’s update, Mining the Duke’s Salt deposits for more than five minutes will tire you out and cause you to stop for a breather.

We also have some minor changes and improvements this week:
  • Fixed wording on the GIM leaving interface.
  • GIM leaders who wish to abdicate no longer need another active member in their group to do so.
  • The Grand Exchange sales fee is no longer charged on Deadman: Apocalypse worlds.
  • You can now check charges remaining on the Blade of Saeldor while it is equipped.
  • The Bind, Snare, and Entangle spells now give slightly different XP depending on whether the spell will hit or splash. This also means that you can predict success by looking at how much XP you’ve received.
    • For Bind, a success now gives 31 XP, up from 30.
    • For Snare, a success now gives 61 XP (plus damage), up from 60.
    • Entangle already had an XP difference in PvP combat, and we’ve applied the same numbers to PvM. A success is now worth 89 XP, up from 70.
  • The Wilderness Diary Task that required players to kill a lava dragon and bury its Bones now completes when the dragon is killed, without requiring you to do any burying – after all, that’s not the hard part of the challenge!
  • The Locator Orb is now permitted in Castle Wars.

  • Added a confirmation message before defaulting to a 'TzHaar' Slayer Task if players accidentally click out of the Jad/Zuk task dialogue box.
  • Resource collections and coffer deductions from Miscellania will now occur at midnight every day, instead of at whichever time players initially completed the quest.
  • Changed iconography on a chest in the Stronghold of Security.

Deadman: Apocalypse

Today marks the halfway point of Deadman: Apocalypse! It’s been a blast seeing you all get involved with this apocalyptic spin on the iconic game mode, and we hope you’ve had as much fun playing as we’ve had watching along.

As you know, to keep things fair we’re taking a hands-off approach to tweaks and improvements, but we’re committed to fixing major issues as we encounter them.

Today, we’ve made changes to a handful of multi-way combat Breach locations. Some of the spawning points for these Breaches were a bit closer to single-way combat zones than intended, and some players were able to take advantage of the situation to tackle these Breaches in (relative) safety.

Breach spawns near Tithe Farm, north of the Grand Exchange, and north of the King Black Dragon’s lair have all been adjusted. We’ve also removed the potential spawn north of Falador altogether.

Don’t worry – if you’re not ready to risk it all in a multi-way combat Breach, there are plenty of singles Breaches you can try instead.

Also in this week’s update, we’ve extended Nigel’s extraordinary XP toggling powers to Banks across Gielinor. You'll now find a handy 'Toggle XP' option on the Deadman chests that you'd primarily use to open up your loot keys -that’ll save you schlepping back to Lumbridge every time you want to change things up!

Additionally, we're taking a few more worlds out of the mix to try and condense action a little further towards the end of the tournament! Here's a list of the worlds we're taking out, the brackets they're in, and the region those worlds serve:
  • 3 - 50 Bracket: Worlds 407 (UK) and 440 (US West) removed.
  • 51 - 70 Bracket: World 438 (US West) removed.
  • 71 - 90 Bracket: World 411 (US West) removed.
  • 91 - 110 Bracket: World 410 (US West) removed.
  • 111 - 126 Bracket: World 409 (US West) removed.

The next two changes concern teleporting. Firstly, the Ring of Life will no longer be able to teleport players during combat in Deadman Mode. While this is expected behaviour in the main game, we don’t allow Deadmen to teleport in combat at all, and the Ring of Life could previously be used to circumvent this restriction. To keep things fair, we’re removing the teleportation effect from the Ring of Life, the Defence Skill Cape, and the Escape Crystal.

We’ve also made a change to the Trinket of Fairies – namely, it is now subject to the same restrictions as Dragonstone Jewellery and the Seed Pod, and cannot be used past level 30 Wilderness. You’ll need to get your running shoes out if you’re caught at the Ice Plateau!

Last (and probably also least), we’ve made the Sigil of the Feral Fighter less spammy. Now, if your game chat is set to ‘Filtered’, you won’t receive a chat message every time the Sigil is about to activate. If you happen to love spam (we won’t judge!) and have been relying on these messages during combat, feel free to change your game chat settings in the relevant settings menu.

As a reminder, next Monday marks the start of the final week of the tournament. Enjoy the chaos while it lasts, and we’ll see you at the finale on Saturday, September 16th!

Jagex Launcher Updates: New Look & HDOS

Tomorrow (Thursday 7th September), the Jagex Launcher will receive a fresh coat of paint! This change is entirely cosmetic, as it brings a new look and feel to the Launcher.

Alongside this update, we're also happy to announce that the community-led HDOS client will also be available to use directly from the Launcher too! If you already have the HDOS client installed, it will show as an available option for you in the client selection drop-down. Want to give HDOS a try? You can find out more, including a link to download it here.

If you haven't already tried out the Launcher, now is a great time to do so! Coupled with Jagex Accounts, it's the safest and most secure way to play Old School. We recently added additional functionality such as:
  • Import up to 20 characters under one login
  • Enhanced account security, including:
  • Stronger Passwords.
  • Protection against Brute-Force attempts.
  • Email Notifications.
  • Required 2FA.
  • Improved Recovery Process (including Backup Codes).
  • Remembered Sessions.
  • Easily import characters you may have forgotten about.
  • 20 additional bank spaces.

For more information on Jagex Accounts, check out this handy post from July 2023.

On The Horizon

Since this week’s update’s been a little quiet, we thought we’d give you a quick update on what we’re working on behind the scenes. Right this way, please…

Ongoing Poll: Leagues IV Rewards and Scar Essence Mine

Don’t forget to cast your vote for the Leagues IV rewards and the Scar Essence Mine. Not sure what those are? Check out the blogs!

These polls close on Friday, September 8th, so read up and have your say while you can!

Next week: Path of Glouphrie

At our Summer Summit, we spoke about our next iconic quest backport: Path of Glouphrie. We'll be putting an Old School spin on this classic continuation of the Gnome storyline, with overhauled versions of Warped Tortoises and Warped Terrorbirds.

You can look forward to more QoL than ever before when taking on these unsettling new foes, as well as updated drop tables, rebalanced stats and a chance at the Warped Sceptre: a brand new powered staff, whose power sits between Iban's Blast and the Trident of the Seas. For more info, check out the blog we shared during the Summer Summit by clicking here.

So make sure to get your questing boots on next week for a whole host of Gnome antics, without any monkey business!

Varlamore: Community Consultation

It’ll soon be time for us to journey to Varlamore, the vast, unexplored continent we revealed at the Summer Summit.

In our first batch, you can expect the Hunter Guild, the Perilous Moons quest, and the Fortis Colosseum – along with a few other bits and bobs. We’ll be kicking off Community Consultation for these three major updates very soon, so keep an eye out for your chance to get involved!

Poll 80 Changes

Undoubtedly there are many of you out there waiting on the last bits of Poll 80. Rest assured that they are coming, but that while Deadman: Apocalypse is ongoing we're trying to avoid adding much main game content that's likely to impact the tournament.

This is a decision that we've had to make for fairness, UK competition laws and in particular for the more PvP oriented changes (in paritcular: the reworked Wilderness Bosses) to let people enjoy Deadman before coming back to try them in the regular Wilderness - and of course, future Deadman events!

So: Poll 80 changes are on the way, make sure to keep an eye out after Deadman: Apocalypse wraps up!

Forestry Pt. II: Beta Cancellation

On a sadder note, we’ve made the decision to cancel the upcoming Forestry Part II beta so we can focus on the Mobile TLI update. We’ll also be using this time to get our existing beta worlds ship shape for upcoming bigger and more impactful betas.

Rest assured, we’ve learned plenty from Forestry Part I and will be aiming for a much healthier spread of XP rates for the new events coming in Part II. Plus, in case you’ve forgotten – Forestry Part II will not include tea.

Other Changes

Finally, we have a couple more changes in this week’s update.

Firstly, the dialogue box pop-up for TzHaar Slayer Tasks will no longer default to a regular TzHaar task if closed prematurely. Instead, you’ll be able to chat to your Slayer Master and make your choice again. Note that if you run off and accidentally kill a regular TzHaar without making a decision, your task will default to a regular TzHaar one – so watch where you’re aiming that Ice Barrage!

Those of you who are currently regents in the Kingdom of Miscellania will be glad to know that your subjects now attend to your various whims at exactly midnight each day, instead of whatever time you initially completed the quest. Incidentally, this timer is ‘rounded up’ – so upon your next login you should find an extra day’s worth of resources waiting for you. More logs, Sire?

Finally, we’ve adjusted a symbol on one of the chests in the Stronghold of Security in line with other changes made to medical-themed models throughout the game.

Deadman: Apocalypse Tweaks

Since Deadman: Apocalypse launched last Friday, thousands of you have hit the breaches and engaged in all-out PvP carnage.

While you’ve been busy murdering each other, we’ve been closely monitoring your feedback. Since there’s a large cash prize attached to this game mode, we’re somewhat constrained in the changes we can make – but we’re committed to addressing critical issues as they appear.

Today's patch brings two notable fixes:

Edgeville Emblem Trader

Those of you wondering where your old friend the Emblem Trader has got to will be pleased to see him back in his usual spot north of Edgeville. His strikingly similar friend can also be found hanging out at the Grand Exchange.

On Deadman Worlds, the Grand Exchange Emblem Trader does not let you acquire a skull. However, the Emblem Trader north of Edgeville and his colleague at the Revenant Caves will.

Prices in Deadman: Apocalypse and Permanent Deadman Shops

Last week, some of you raised that the Emblem Trader Shop had the Point cost for items increased on the Permanent Deadman World. Oops! In this week's game update, we had a word with the Emblem Trader and the prices are back to normal.

Additional Hotfixes
  • The Scythe of Vitur will now correctly add charges, even when already partly charged.
  • Players will no longer receive Tier 1 Sigils when they shouldn’t.
  • Increased the PJ Timer in single-way combat areas from 12 seconds (20 cycles) to 14.4 seconds (24 cycles).

As the game mode progresses, we are also removing the following worlds from Deadman: Apocalypse:

3-50 Bracket
  • US East - 472, 473, 574
  • US West - 442, 538, 541
  • UK - 508
  • EU - 462, 550, 551

51-70 Bracket
  • US East - 404
  • US West - 439
  • EU - 460

Tombs of Amascut

The Path of Apmeken

We received a lot of feedback regarding the Path of Apmeken – particularly, you felt that the monkey business took a bit too long compared to other paths.

In response, we’ve allowed players to clear the waves faster without making the room too difficult for less experienced players.

To achieve this, we’ve increased both the minimum and maximum foe counts for most waves, which ultimately means that players will have to clear fewer enemies before the next wave begins. To prevent less experienced players being overwhelmed by the simian hordes, players can now use volatile baboons to clear out other enemies with a well-timed AoE explosion. In addition, shamans will no longer spawn thralls if they are poisoned or envenomed, giving everyone a bit of a break.

Lobby Deposit Box

We’ve added a Deposit Pot next to the Helpful Spirit which functions as a regular Deposit Box – just shove your unused supplies in there, and they’ll go straight to the Bank.

You may also deposit and retrieve your Pickaxe in the lobby, so you don’t have to enter the Raid to retrieve it. There’s a Cavity in the wall that’s just right for the job.

Akkha

Previously, during Akkha’s enrage phase, he’d teleport to a new location after a fixed number of hits, even if they missed. This resulted in a bit too much teleporting for our liking, so we’ve made it so that Akkha will now only teleport after a certain number of successful hits. This guarantees that you’ll get in at least a little damage before he teleports away!

Additionally, hits from thralls no longer contribute to Akkha’s teleport counter.

Accessibility

Last but not least, you asked us to improve the clarity of select Invocations. We’ve updated their mouseover information accordingly, and it should now be clearer what effect they’ll have on the Raid.

Other Poll 80 Changes

Pyramid Plunder

First up, we have some adjustments to the drop rate of the Pharoah’s Sceptre. Previously the mummy’s maths were a little off, and the drop rate for the Sceptre actually decreased as you progressed further into the Pyramid. As of today’s update, your chances will now improve past Room 5 instead.

As part of this change, we’ve also made it so that the Chests and Sarcophagi will roll for the Sceptre even if you fail. Have fun treasure hunting!

The rates are as follows for both Chests and Sarcophagi:
  • Room 1: 1/4200
  • Room 2: 1/2800
  • Room 3: 1/1600
  • Room 4: 1/950
  • Room 5: 1/800
  • Room 6: 1/750
  • Room 7: 1/650
  • Room 8: 1/650

Arceuus PvP Spells

We have reworked Mark of Darkness; instead of being a debuff you cast on your target, it will now be a buff that you cast on yourself. While you have the buff, certain spells will be empowered, just as they previously were when targeting someone with the Mark of Darkness debuff. In case you've forgotten:
  • The bind chance of grasp spells is doubled, though the bind duration remains the same.
  • If your target is a player, corruption will occur twice as often.
  • If your target is a demon, demonbane spells will have an additional 25% damage and 20% accuracy bonus. The damage bonus is applied after any bonus damage from gear.

While Greater Corruption has a Magic requirement that's 20 levels higher than Lesser Corruption, the only functional difference was the chance to apply corruption. We’ve doubled the Prayer Point drain inflicted by Greater Corruption to make it feel, well… greater. In addition both Lesser and Greater Corruption now have 50% accuracy.

Additional Changes

We also have a host of smaller Poll 80 changes coming in this week’s update:
  • Lava dragons can now drop Ensouled Heads in addition to other loot.
  • Webweaver Bow now consumes one charge when using the special attack instead of four.
  • Imbued God Capes now break upon death, rather than vanishing, and can be fixed for 96,000 GP.
  • It is now possible to take multiple God Capes at the same time.
  • Enabled Multicannons in PvP worlds wherever Looting Bags cannot be used.
  • Implemented a system for Loot Key broadcasts in Clan Chat, with options in the Clan Settings menu.
  • Increased Wilderness Achievement Diary Rune rewards for all tiers.
  • Disabled random events within the Wilderness Boss lairs.
  • Players will now receive a message 10 ticks before Mark of Darkness expires.
  • A message will now appear in the chat box to indicate that players have been bound. Players will also receive a message when they unfreeze.
  • Removed Dragon Scale Dust from the Nightmare Zone Reward Shop.

Other Changes

  • Players will now receive the intended 15% accuracy bonus from Bounty Hunter’s Ancient Kit when special attacks are performed during the minigame.
  • When treasure is won from a Player-Owned House's Dungeon Treasure Chest, the notification message now says who won it and how much money they received.
  • The Love Crossbow can no longer be fired in PvP areas.
  • Thammaron's Sceptre and the Accursed Sceptre will now correctly show 0 ‘splashes’ if the wielder’s Magic has been drained.
  • Upon trying to enter the Mage Training Area, free-to-play players will now be informed that they require membership.
  • All Slayer Helm variants are now correctly shown as lost in the kept on death interface.

Deadman: Apocalypse begins on Friday, August 25th at 17:00 BST (09:00 PDT / 12:00 EDT / 02:00 AEST).

If you can’t see the video above, click here to watch it!

You can expect a little bit of down time today while we add the Deadman Mode content early. This’ll give us plenty of time for us to conduct tests and checks before the worlds officially open this weekend!

We expect all worlds to be back up at 12:00 BST. Please note that Deadman Mode does not begin until Friday, and all Deadman Mode Worlds will be closed until then. On Friday, the shutdown timer will begin at 15:45 BST and worlds will be back up at 17:00 BST.

Once the event begins, you’ll have three weeks to make progress. Worlds will close on Friday, September 15th at 12:00 BST (04:00 PDT / 07:00 EDT / 21:00 AEST).

On Saturday, September 16th at 17:00 BST, you’ll have one hour from then to log into the Finale worlds. The apocalypse will begin on Saturday 16th September at 18:00 BST (10:00 PDT / 13:00 EDT / 03:00 AEST).

All of the information for Deadman: Apocalypse can be found in this newspost. We've made some small changes since, so keep reading for more information!

What's New?

Deadman: Apocalypse introduces a new challenge. Breaches will open three times a day, spewing forth powerful bosses – including General Graardor and K’ril Tsutsaroth! If you think you’re tough enough to take them on, you’re sure to be rewarded. Check out the ‘Everything you need to know’ blog for more information about Breaches, including timings.

We’re also introducing a brand-new Points-based system that rewards harder activities with extra points! You can see how you stack up against other players on the HiScores page. The total prize pool is $25,000, and an incredible $20,000 can be won via the point system, so you won't want to miss out! The remaining $5,000 slice of the prize pool is determined in the finale!

Corrupted Weaponry is also new to Deadman: Apocalypse. These pieces of equipment are weaker versions of familiar gear, but they can be obtained from Breaches. This means you can get your hands on them much earlier than you would normally, and perhaps even get a leg up on the competition. Please note that Corrupted Weaponry will not carry over to the Permanent world 345.

Permanent DMM, World 345 and Merging

If you have an account with permanent Deadman progress, you will not be able to use the same account in Deadman: Apocalypse, unless you remove all stats, gear, and other progression. Don’t worry about doing this accidentally – to remove your permanent account progress, you’ll need to talk to Nigel and confirm that you understand what you’re doing. You’ll also need a Bank PIN to make the change. Again, we'd recommend checking out the ‘Everything you need to know’ blog for more information.

If you’re especially attached to your permanent Deadman progress, you will need to use another account to participate in Deadman: Apocalypse.

If you plan to undergo the transfer process to world 345, you can do so after today’s game update. Please note that leaving Lumbridge will cancel the transfer process – instead, you’ll need to opt-in to the process, and then log into Deadman: Apocalypse when it launches to confirm your decision.

If you decide to merge back into world 345 early, you’ll also need to speak to Nigel – but be aware that doing this will cause you to lose your Deadman: Apocalypse progress. We highly recommend waiting until the end of the event, at which point your profile and all your progress will be automatically transferred back to world 345.

Clarifications

Below, we have outlined some main clarification points following discussions in the PvP Discord about DMM, courtesy of Mod Manked:
  • If you accidentally ‘skip’ a bracket by gaining too much XP from a quest, you will miss out on the protection offered by the skipped bracket. However, when logging in to the next bracket, you will receive all the core quests from the skipped bracket and will be able to make the usual quest choices by talking to a Combat Tutor in Lumbridge.
  • Lava Dragon Bones are not included in the double Dragon Bones system.
  • Elite Void equipment will only require 42 Hitpoints, Attack, Defence, Strength, Ranged, Magic, and 22 Prayer.
  • Desert Treasure is not auto-unlocked by the ‘Mahjarrat’ option in the final bracket.
  • Ancient Warrior Armour will not appear in Deadman: Apocalypse.
  • The Monkey Madness II tunnels will offer supply drops 50% less often. This includes Tier 5 Emblems and Sigils.
  • You will not be able to gain points during the Finale. Point accumulation ends when the servers close at midday BST on September 15th.
  • If a player is in combat with a single-way Breach monster, no other players can attack that player during the fight. However, if multiple players are attacking the Breach monster, anyone not in combat with the monster can be attacked by other players.
  • Although you can obtain Thieving XP in safezones, you will not receive loot.
  • XP can still be locked by speaking to Nigel in Lumbridge.
  • Drop rates for all Defenders, regardless of bracket, will be 4x as common.
  • Prayer is considered a combat skill in Deadman: Apocalypse, as it was in Deadman: Reborn.
  • Starter Sigils are the same as they are in Deadman: Reborn, however no Sigils, including the starter Sigils, will offer additional XP multipliers.
  • Loot from the Breach monsters will be as follows:
    • The MvP (player with the most damage to the boss) will have a chance to get a unique drop.
    • The non-MvPs (top 15 players that have dealt damage to the boss) will receive regular Breach loot. What’s that? Do a breach, and you'll find out!
    • Players who did damage to the Breach monsters but did not do enough damage to be in the top 15 damage dealers will not receive loot or points for that kill.

If you have further questions, check out the PvP Discord #dmm channel.

Although new members can't type there, there is a wealth of information from existing players which will be visible. We'll be closely monitoring this channel to address and respond to concerns.

Latest Changes

In Deadman: Apocalypse, certain Combat Achievement tasks require instances. As we have disabled the ability to use instances for some bosses, these Achievements are not necessary to complete the tier.

Here are the list of Combat Achievement Tasks that can be safely ignored:

Hard
  • Who Is the King Now?
  • Krakan't Hurt Me

Elite
  • Reminisce
  • The Bane of Demons
  • Demonic Defence
  • Ten-tacles
  • From Dusk...

Master
  • Moving Collateral
  • One Hundred Tentacles
  • Swoop No More
  • Collateral Damage
  • Perfect Grotesque Guardians II
  • ... 'til Dawn

Grandmaster
  • Peach Conjurer
  • Animal Whisperer
  • Ourg Killer
  • Defence Matters
  • Keep Away
  • Demon Whisperer
  • Ash Collector
  • Feather Hunter

This change will slightly alter the points available from the corresponding Combat Achievement tier/boss completion.

That’s all for Deadman Mode for now. We look forward to watching the carnage begin this weekend!

Summer Summit Livestream

You can now cast your vote on our latest poll, covering Varlamore, Sailing, Chambers of Xeric and much more! Simply head to the nearest in-game Poll Booth to have your say.

If you can’t see the video above, click here to watch it!

Other Changes

  • The music track 'Box of Delights' has had its instrument balance adjusted slightly.
  • Log Baskets no longer let you keep chopping Logs with a full Inventory on free-to-play worlds.
  • Random events with costume rewards would commonly give 500 coins to a player who already had the full outfit. They now give XP lamps instead of those coins. The lamps are identical to the Genie's lamp, giving 10x your level in the skill. The Quizmaster's Mystery Box and Prison Pete may give such a lamp instead of coins too.

Poll 80 Progress Update

Behind the scenes, we've been hard at work preparing for the Summer Summit - we hope you enjoyed the show! Now we’ve finally revealed our biggest upcoming content for the next year, it’s time to talk QoL.

Usually, we run a survey to decide the most important changes to prioritise. Unfortunately, with all hands on deck for the Summer Summit, we didn’t find time to do this for Poll 80. However, last week you made it clear that the Tombs of Amascut changes are particularly important to you, so we’ll make that our first priority – starting with the Path of Apmeken changes! Even better, you should see these in next week’s game update, provided that testing goes off without a hitch.

Thanks for your patience as we work on getting Poll 80 out to you. So, tell us, what changes are you next excited for?

Desert Treasure II Improvements

Speaking of summer, we’re getting tanned in the Desert (and a bunch of other places) with more improvements to Desert Treasure II and its post-game bosses.

Whisperer
  • The Whisperer will no longer prompt players to use their Awakener’s Orb if you have already killed her in the same trip, letting players fight her without interruption.

Leviathan
  • The only way to avoid all the damage in Leviathan's enraged phase is to delay enraging it, which isn’t especially exciting. We've made a change so that Leviathan basic projectiles will no longer hit through Prayer in the period after the boss enrages and before the buff NPC spawns.
  • Leviathan should now drop Brimstone Keys in an accessible location on death. Of course, you’ll need a boss Slayer Task for the Leviathan to get them at all.

Duke Sucellus
  • The Duke's sight overlay is now cleared upon leaving the instance.
  • We've updated how the rendering of the Duke's vent and acid walk projectile works so that they should be clearer.

Other Changes
  • Successfully obtaining the Ancient Blood Ornament Kit will now send a Clan Chat or Group Ironman Announcement broadcast. Hurrah!
  • Additionally, your Personal Bests for each of the four Desert Treasure II bosses are now also correctly broadcasted in Clan channel or GIM channel. This counts for both normal and awakened versions. You can use the Combat Achievement interface if you'd like to wipe your current PB at each boss.
  • The new Ancient Scepters now have trouver versions.
  • Each Ancient Sceptre now has its own placeholder in the Bank.
  • The Bandit should now correctly spawn when using the Ring to teleport.
  • Virtus Robes are now included in skill guides and level up messages.
  • Each piece of the Virtus Robes set can now be stored in the Magic Wardrobe.

The art of Desert Treasure II has been incredible. This week the art team have been kind enough to introduce further improvements.
  • The statues of Azzanadra in Lassar now have an Idle animation!
  • The Stranglewood cutscene now correctly features one shrine in it rather than two.
  • The pier on the western edge of the Stranglewood has had a small visual improvement.

Torva

Following community feedback, we've updated Torva Armour’s visuals to bring it more in line with community expectations. We hope you agree that these small changes pack a lot of punch!

Here’s exactly what’s changed:
  • The Torva Torso has been brought in at the waist very slightly (now matching Blood Torva).
  • The Back of the Torva Helmet has been lowered to conceal the neck more.
  • Female characters will notice their neck is thicker while wearing Torva. Don’t panic – this is just a neat visual trick and doesn’t affect the thousands of other female character armour models.

Loot Tracker and Buff Bar

  • The loot tracker on our C++ Client currently only tracks PvE fights with NPCs. We've updated it today to ensure that PvP loot can now be tracked.
  • The Buff Bar has been improved:
    • Getting bound by the Strangled now shows as a bind on the Buff Bar.
    • In addition, the bleed icon used on the Buff Bar has been resized.

Poll Booth

2023 has been our first year for the new and shiny Community Polling Charter! If you're not sure what we mean, be sure take a look at the explanation of how we poll content from this blog post. We've had lots more polls, surveys and blogs this year but they might be confusing to some members of the community who don't keep up to date with our newsposts.

As of next week, any future in-game polls will be listed under the following new categories to offer clarity for players:
  • Greenlight - These polls show as green in the poll interface and have a pass requirement of 70%.
  • Opinion - These polls show as blue in the poll interface and have no pass requirement.
  • Lock-in - These polls show as orange in the poll interface and have a pass requirement of 70%.

Mobile UI Rework: Beta Update

Many of you will have seen the recent Mobile UI Rework newspost, which detailed our plans for the upcoming Mobile UI Beta.

Unfortunately, testing has since identified an issue which adversely affects the UI elements when swapping from a Beta World to a normal game world. Because of this, we’ve decided to postpone tomorrow's Beta until a later date.

While there is a potential workaround available to us for this issue, it wouldn’t give you, the player, the best and fullest experience of the Mobile UI Rework as it stands. This rework is really important, and we want to give you a chance to experience the changes properly and share your feedback without encountering any issues that could detract from that process.

How this might affect our plans for a Forestry Beta is still TBC. We will update you once our investigations have concluded, and when we are confident in a date we can deploy the fix and have the Beta ready for release.

We know many of you were looking forward to trying out the new UI, and we apologise for making you wait a little longer. Any further updates will be added to this newspost and/or shared via our social channels.

Other Changes

  • As of today’s update, attempting to open an Impling Jar with a Clue in your Inventory of the same tier that the Impling could give, you’ll be given a warning.
  • The generic parchment menu text has been given slightly stronger contrast against its background to improve readability.
  • Fixed a graphical issue when wearing Virtus Robes with certain weaponry.
  • Obtaining a Wilderness boss pet that could be obtained from more than one source will now update the kill-count for both in your Clan Broadcast, provided you have one.
  • Fixed a bug where certain items were being skipped or displaying incorrectly in the Collection Log. Players affected by this issue should find the issues resolved upon their next log-in. We know this bug affected the following items:
    • Mounted fish items
      • Big Swordfish
      • Big Bass
      • Big Shark
      • Golden Tench
    • Hallowed Sepulchre items (Including Hallowed tools, rewards)
  • We also fixed incorrect Collection Log values related to Larran’s Big Chest, the Brimstone Chest, and The Gauntlet.

The PvP rota has moved to Period A:
