Ouroboros: Prelude

Ouroboros: Prelude - Alpha Release - Version 0.9.0 Released

It has been a while since the last update. Unavoidable and unforeseen problems of life and health arose but I am back with updates.

With the release of Version 0.9.0 comes some new features:

  • 3 new scares.
  • 2 new randomized rooms.
  • Expanded upon previous randomized rooms.
  • Tweaked item balance.
  • 1 new area type.
  • Expanded upon a previous level.
  • 1 new puzzle.
  • Added more journal pages.

Cave systems and another game mechanic are in the works. I have also begun work on the voice overs for the journals. That... may take a while because I am a perfectionist, there is a LOT to record, and getting everything to sound JUST right is tedious.

I plan on beginning VR development soon but that is most certainly going to take a while and may very well end up being a DLC or something... I do not know. We shall see.

Due to the previously mentioned "life and health" problems development of Ouroboros: Prelude may slow a bit. It will not stop but unfortunately I cannot invest my every waking hour on this project anymore. I am thinking updates maybe every 2 - 4 weeks compared to the many, many updates I had done per single week.

I hope to continue churning out updates as soon as I am able. Until then....

Stay sane! ...And healthy!

Moderate-Update No.1 Implemented & More

Moderate-Update No.1 has just been released. The Hint System is now active. It will essentially teach you the game mechanics as you play. This can be turned off in the Options menu after you get familiar with the game.

I also made a few other adjustments and fixes:

  • You can no longer drink elixirs or tinctures while underwater.
  • U.I. is no longer affected by the sanity effects.
  • Tweaked water reflections where sometimes water would become white-bright.
  • Fixed an issue where picking up skulls caused severe lag.
  • Tweaked sanity/scare frequency and effects.

And now once again for a very short -- one could almost say non-existent -- rest and to look over my notes and see what next to implement.

I hope you all enjoy the improvements. Stay sane!

Moderate-Update No.1 Incoming

Emergency Update No.1 Implemented

Ouroboros: Prelude is working properly again. Sorry about that. Leave one thing unattended to and that whole thing falls apart.

The next update will take a little longer than the previous updates to implement -- hence the change from "mini" to "moderate."

To be implemented:

  • Hint System
  • New Area
  • New Sanity Effect

Emergency-Update No. 1 Incoming

It has come to my attention that for some reason the game is closing out before even getting to the main menu screen. This will be fixed by the end of the night latest. (EST)

Bear with me as I find out just what the heck went wrong.

EDIT (7:28 PM EST):

I have found out what is wrong. Leave one stupid object on that should not be on and the whole game goes insane. The game is rebuilding as I type. It should be uploaded and playable in an hour or two. I apologize for the inconvenience.

EDIT (8:56 PM EST):

The build is almost completed.

EDIT (11:19 PM EST):

The build is completed and uploading now.

Mini-Update No.5 Implemented

I tweaked the lighting and increased the dark-light intensity. I tested it on different monitor types and it is more than possible to navigate the dungeons and see where you are going while on standard brightness.

I also added tinderboxes to the game. Tinderboxes are collectibles that will give you a randomized amount of flint, steel, and tinder. This should make lighting torches slightly more commonplace.

And now for another short break, more play-testing, email reading, etc.

Good luck playing. Stay sane!

Mini-Update No.5 Incoming

Greetings dungeon crawlers,

I took a VERY short rest and now it is back to work. I have gotten a few comments about the brightness of the game. Darkness is an important part of the game and I wanted it instill a feeling of "be careful, I shouldn't be running around in dark caves who knows what is around the corner feeling" but it seems either that does not come to mind or that the game IS too dark because of certain screen types. Whatever the reason I have decided to take another look at the lighting system. I do not plan on increase the radius of vision but I will most likely increase the intensity of said vision within the space you have.

To be implemented:

  • Increasing dark-light intensity
  • Tweaking lighting
  • Adding a collectible that gives all consumable resources

I have no plans of abandoning this game. As stated before I will keep working on this game until it is sufficiently completed or until I go insane in the process.

Stay sane! :)

Mini-Update No.4 Implemented

Once again, doing more work even after saying I'd take a break...

  • Re-balanced damage from creatures.
  • Re-balanced collectible appearance rates.

Mini-Update No.3 & More

Mini-Update No.3 has been implemented plus HELP menu expansion and CONTEST implementation.

As per usual, I put a little more work into something than I said I was going to do. I finished Mini-Update No. 3 and also expanded the HELP menu. I known my game is difficult so I decided to give players a little bit of extra help. Those familiar with other sanity-driven horror games probably do not need this help but what the heck... I'm a nice guy... Sometimes. ;)

And just for funzzies I created a CONTEST for anyone playing my game.

The task is simple. Beat the game. Email the secret code at the end to dreamverseentertainmenthelp@gmail.com with the subject line: GAME COMPLETED.

If you are the first person to beat the game you will be immortalized on the Ouroboros: Prelude Steam page and you will get to name a side-character that will appear in the Ouroboros storyline at some point.

I will continue the updates but for now I think now I will take that long needed rest. Two years utterly non-stop takes a lot out of a man.

...I'll probably end up back to work in an hour or two though because apparently when it comes to game design I hath become a workaholic. :)

I hope you all enjoy the fruits of my madness...

Good luck. Stay sane!

In Response to Requests for Review-Keys of Steam Ouroboros: Prelude

To those who are requesting review-keys to the game. I have had a lot of offers for reviewing my game. I will be issuing out review-keys in the coming week or so to those with an active YouTube presence, active Twitch, or active Website and mostly on a first-come first-serve basis.

After the first batch of review-keys are given review copies of the game will only be given out under special circumstances.

This will most likely be the procedure for all future games as well.

If you contacted me for a key to the game for reviewing be sure to check which ever method you had contacted me in the first place or be sure to send me your preferred contact method when contacting me. If you do not receive a response within the next week or two then most likely I will have handed out all the review copies for this game.

In Response to Requests to Stream Ouroboros: Prelude

I have gotten quite a few emails from people requesting permission to stream my game. So, I thought I would address all aspiring YouTubers and streamers out there looking to give my game a go.

Yes, you may stream/show gameplay footage of Ouroboros: Prelude on your channel.
Yes, you may monetize said gameplay.

All I ask is for a fair review, constructive criticism, and a positive review on Steam if you happened to like my madness. You do not have to -- most do not -- but it is just polite. :)

Do keep in mind that the game is still in Early Access and that I will -- for at maximum a year -- continue to be working on it.

Stay sane!
