It's that time of year again. When your planet has almost completed a full orbit around its host star. A time of year you call Christmas. It's a great time to come together with friends and family and contemplate about the upcoming year, but before we do that, I want to thank each one of you for supporting Out Of Orbit. We are building a friendly and loving community. Alright, let go; I have a small gift for you!
MULTIPLAYER In the last couple of months, I have been very busy implementing multiplayer. This is a fan favorite feature. Multiplayer was until now, an unknown development territory for me. I have learned a lot in the meantime. I have edited a small compilation of the current progress. Enjoy. The foundation is finished and stable. I still have to add all the animations and quality-of-life features. I also have to find a way to handle saving states, etc. Something that might not be as hard as I think, but is definitely time-consuming. My plan is to drop this update early 2024; I'm not quite sure when.
I'll keep you posted on the progress. More so on the Discord Server, less so here, on Steam.
Have a great holiday, everyone!

MULTIPLAYER I have reached a new point in the development of Out of Orbit. A poll on the official Discord server suggests that most of the players want Out of Orbit to have multiplayer capabilities. Well, I have some good news for those players. I am currently deep in the code to give Out of Orbit multiplayer capabilities. I am not 100% sure what I want this to look like. As usual, the community has a big say in this. I do personally believe that Out of Orbit will flourish with a multiplayer sandbox mode. Basically, it's just the same as the single-player experience, but with your friends and co-up buddies. So that is what I am currently working on. However, I have to say that things like team-deathmatch and other smaller game modes like that really intrigue me. Perhaps that will be something for the future. So, if you have any suggestions on how this new multiplayer capability is going to look, feel free to join the Discord Server and spread the news. In the meantime, I won't be updating the game until multiplayer is done. I do believe the game is pretty stable as it is. There are some bugs here and there, but nothing really serious.
As far as multiplayer development goes, I managed to create a server that other players can join. Up to four players as of now. Most games have a server-client-client-client structure, meaning that the server operates on a different application. I will implement another method. Out of Orbit will have a SERVER CLIENT - CLIENT - CLIENT structure. This means that one player will be the host of the server, and other clients can join this server. This way, you can create and join servers within the game without needing to download or install other applications.
(The test is successful)
I'll keep you posted on the progress. More so on the Discord Server, less so here, on Steam. Whenever I have a grasp on how long it's going to take, I'll let you know.
