We're celebrating the Steam Halloween Sale with Outbreak: The New Nightmare for 40% off!

In addition, the original Outbreak is 80% off and all DLC for it is 35% off!

We're planning for Outbreak: The New Nightmare to leave Steam Early Access sometime in January 2018. When we leave Early Access, the price of the game will be increasing! Weekly Dev Update - 10/22/2017

Hey survivors! Welcome to another Dev Weekly Update featuring a great gif from Mr RSpeedy!

So... Whatcha been working on all week?

The last week has been a hard push to get the Xbox One version of the game into a shippable state. This has included adding numerous fixes and small enhancements, hooking up remaining services, polishing art & marketing stuff and doing paperwork! There was also a snazzy new XB1 specific trailer created during this time.

Right but.. we meant on the Steam-side!

Oh right! We've also been preparing a new patch that has a lot of small fixes and changes, including a reduction of difficulty on Normal in single-player mode. This patch will also include some key fixes to ensure enemies don't get stuck in place or fail to chase/react to players. It should be a significant improvement there, but it has to be tested as it touched some low-level functionality. Expect this patch to show up sometime in the next week after we're sure we didn't break the entire game by accident.

Anything else on the horizon we should be looking forward to?

Yes! Sometime in the very near future, we'll be announcing a targeted date for leaving Early Access. The game is coming together very well and we're getting close to a state of feature completeness, which means it'll be time for focusing on polish before the full release! Stay tuned as we want to announce the transition date a bit in advance so people have a chance to buy the game at the lower price point. Once we leave Early Access, we're planning to raise the price of the game, so stay tuned for details there.

THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone for playing and sharing feedback! Keep it coming! We're listening closely and although we can't promise we'll implement every piece, it is definitely guiding the direction of the game! Also another special thanks to Standemonium!! for his assistance on the City layout! It came together great and everyone can now play it ingame!

Outbreak, 2D co-op survival horror, is 80% off through Oct. 26th!

Looking for more unforgiving survival horror gameplay? Grab the original Outbreak by Dead Drop Studios for 80% off through 10/26! All DLC is 15% off as well. You'll find plenty of bundles at great discounts as well! Have fun and good luck surviving the nightmare!

Outbreak is the spiritual predecessor to Outbreak: The New Nightmare and features the same great survival horror gameplay, but in 2D! Featuring a different cast across all new scenarios, you'll face an unforgiving co-op experience in a brand new apocalypse. Grab three friends and survive the nightmare!

We've released a small hotfix v5.0.1 to address a few issues.

  • Added the Urban, City and Hunted scenarios. (Thank you to Standemonium!! for his contributions here to the layout to this location!)

  • Enemies now cannot move until all players have fully loaded the game.

  • Enemies can no longer spawn and kill players after achieving victory in a scenario.
  • NOTE: The scenario screen was completed to show the eventual full list of scenarios, but Solitary, Prison and Hunted are not available yet. They will be released in a future update. For testing purposes, we had to push some backend code for tracking stats/achievements on them, which made them visible. Sorry for the confusion and stay tuned to hear more about them.

In addition, we have updated the store page to contain a new trailer showing off these locations, as well as brand new screenshots. Thank you to Mr RSpeedy for his help in playtesting, playing while I recorded footage, for building the gifs, providing screenshots and just being a generally fantastic guy!

And one last final thank you to Standemonium!! for all of his contributions so far to the game, including the awesome work he did to establish a layout and build the skeleton which became the city location! Thank you!

Weekly Dev Update - 10/8/2017

Welcome to another weekly dev update, survivors! Let's check up on all of the recent happenings with the development for Outbreak: The New Nightmare

Thank you MrRSpeedy for providing the gifs and some screenshots for this update and the many that preceded it!

New Scenario - The Lab

The lab is the final campaign scenario featuring some genre-classic elements in an exciting finale. As the survivors work their way through the asylum and prison levels, they eventually find a research laboratory. Will it offer them safe refuge from the undead threat...? It's unlikely, but you'll need to play to find out!

The lab is a high tech haven that unfortunately birthed the outbreak that's consuming the local area. The survivors will need to pull together and find a way to destroy the source of the outbreak once and for all... but can they make it out alive?

Featuring multiple objectives for the campaign scenario, a classic boss fight and much more, you'll be in for a fight for your life. This location will also feature it's own Onslaught variant, as well as a fun Experiments scenario that we'll discuss some time in the future.

New Scenario - The City

It's important to note that the city layout was created by Standemonium!! (as well as part of the layout to the Office location). Thank you Stan for the awesome work setting the framework for the map and giving me a nice playground to build it out in!

We've been teasing and hinting at the city location from before the game was released in Early Access. We're finally full steam ahead, putting it all together and making all of the game elements shine in the darkness.

The city takes place chronologically as the second scenario in the campaign. After the survivors escape the horrors of the shipping building in Outbreak, they'll find themselves walking out onto the city streets.

The city is in terrible shape. Cars are burning, carnage is everywhere and destruction reigns. The survivors will need to work their way through the undead metropolis and secure a vehicle for escape. During the way, they'll need to clear several obstructions to reach their destination.

As with all locations, the city will feature its own Onslaught and Experiments variants. We're not ready to talk about the latter yet as it's currently in deep development, but stay tuned.

So when do we get to play these new locations?

Sit tight, it's going to be a little bit of a wait. We're going to work on polishing up at least two locations (6 scenarios) for the next content drop. We do not have an ETA for when these will release, but it'll likely be a few weeks at best guess. So sit tight and stay tuned for new screenshots and gifs as development continues!

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone for supporting and playing the title. The feedback that has been streaming in is invaluable as we continue to build the game experience and content. Keep posting it on the discussion forums and telling your friends about the game. The best is yet to come!

Outbreak: The New Nightmare v4.0.0 Released!

We're happy to announce that v4.0.0 of Outbreak: The New Nightmare has been released. This release includes:

  • Added the Cure, Asylum and Ephemeral scenarios.
  • Addressed an issue where corpses and blood stains may cause movement obstructions.
  • Addressed an issue where player melee sounds did not play at the correct time.

Weekly Dev Update - 9/24/2017

Hey Survivors! It's time again for a weekly dev update!

New Location - The Asylum

We've just recently wrapped up work on creating the new location - The Asylum. In the Cure campaign scenario, you'll venture deep into the asylum as you seek cover from the growing undead threat. What appears to be a potential safe haven quickly turns deadly as you find it overrun with the monsters. With the entranceway destroyed, you'll need to keep pushing deeper into the complex in hope of repairing the elevator... but will it bring safety?

This location also comes packed with it's own Onslaught and Experiments variants. Onslaught is fairly self explanatory at this point, but the experiments scenario gets interesting.

In "Ephemeral", the Experiments scenario, you'll face invisible threats. Your mission? Simple. Reach the Evac Zone alive. No puzzles, just a straightforward battle with foes you can't see. In addition, supplies will be very tight. You'll need to kill enemies to recover new supplies. So efficiently eliminating foes is key to surviving.

This content will be releasing soon, but we do not have a firm ETA yet. We're currently doing final testing and expect it to likely become available in the next week or so.

So what else has been happening?

With the Asylum build, we're now moving forward on other new locations. The City continues to be in development and it's our most complicated location yet. We're still not ready to share anything just yet, but stay tuned. In addition, we're beginning work on another new location as well. Expect some screenshots in the coming weeks showing off these new areas!

And that's about it on the development front. We're very excited for folks to play the asylum, so stay tuned for the new patch dropping sometime in the next week! Good luck and keep surviving!
