Devlog: The Big Boss

Hello, everyone!
Today you’ll see something special - the Big Boss. This legendary outlaw has managed to loot the Alchemist’s Guild storage and ran away with their precious supplies. There is a chance you’ll become an obstacle on his way.

Claiming his head won’t come easy: this giant is surrounded by fellow bandits and can act twice in one turn, delivering the punishment with his so-called Big Gun. However the biggest threat is not the raining bullets, but the cargo the gang have stolen: the barrels filled with hazardous chemicals.

Given the opportunity, the Big Boss will throw one of these barrels amid your battle formation and order his whole crew to shoot the thing. If the barrel gets destroyed, the team will have a very bad time: they may take the damage from the blast, or inhale the poisonous gas and spend the whole turn drooling.

Can you stop that? You can, but you’ll have to protect the barrel at all costs: use the force fields on it, provoke and suppress the enemies.

Big Boss is a big deal. You’ll have to use all your battle experience and collected equipment to take him on. Good luck and remember stay alert in the desert!

Devlog: Venomous Lizard

Hi, everyone!
Today you’ll meet yet another wasteland dweller - Venomous Lizard.

Despite the name, Venomous Lizards aren’t predators and will not attack humans unless they feel a threat. However, if you decided to hunt one of these creatures, you better be prepared.

Lizard defends itself spitting out the venomous liquid in their enemy’s face. If one of your characters takes damage from this attack, they will lose hp every turn until the fight is over.

How can you get rid of poisoning? First, you can use a specific ability to cleanse a character of all harmful effects. Second, you can try to finish the battle quickly, so the crew members can treat their wounds.

If things go sour, remember - any additional spit attacks won’t make things worse. Still, you better avoid hits in the first place.

Stay alert in the desert!

Devlog: Battle Abilities

Hi, everyone!
It’s time to tell you more about the battle abilities. Fights in Ragtag Crew are turn-based: each turn all your character can use one of their abilities.

Those abilities fall under one of the three categories:
Elimination - deals damage to the foes.
Support - protects your allies and makes them stronger.
Manoeuvre - weakens and controls your enemies.

Depending on the background, each character specializes in two of those categories. You can tell which by looking at their two starting abilities. The Hound, for example, begins the game with an Elimination and a Maneuver ability.
That is not all: over the course of the journey, your crewmembers can add 2 more abilities to their arsenal. Each time your character gains an ability, you have to choose 1 out of 3 randomly selected ones.

Those abilities will be chosen from the categories your character specializes in. It means some abilities will be not available and your character has to rely on their teammates to cover their weaknesses.

Take your team composition into account, choose your abilities wisely and remember to stay alert in the desert!

Devlog: Mommocks

Hi, everyone! Today we’re going to introduce you to another wasteland dweller - Mommock!

Mommock is one of the rare desert animals tamed by humans. It’s often used as a beast of burden, means of transportation or simply as an emergency food supply.

Mommocks are well known for being calm creatures: in most situations, they pose no threat to anyone. However, once you get them cornered, those fluffy goofballs turn into unstoppable killing machines.

Try not angering the beast and stay alert in the desert!

Devlog: Team Creation

Hi, everyone!
Today we’ll tell you about the team creation process in Ragtag Crew.

Every journey you’ll have to recruit a squad of three people, each one with unique abilities and traits. You can put your trust in fate or create all of them manually.

If you choose to do the latter, you have to think about two important details:

Background - determines what the character used to do before getting into this venture. It will define the crewmember’s appearance, initial abilities and skills. Abilities you can learn across the journey are affected by background choice as well.

Personality - defines who is crewmember now. Personality consists of one positive and one negative trait, affects character skills and the way they speak. On top of that, it will determine how this person will interact with their teammates and the environment.

Each team member is unique, so it’s not possible to pick the same background or personality for multiple characters. But differences between them is what makes it fun.

Get your team together and stay alert in the desert!

Devlog: Technomancer

Hi, everyone!
Today we introduce you to the new background you can choose for you characters - Technomancer!

The Age of Miracles is gone and mankind's technological achievements are lost in time. Technomancers are here to change that: their guilds all across the civilized lands gather technology of old. Those people of science research it with mixed success hoping to resurrect knowledge of the long gone days. For simple minded folks, guild gadgets look indistinguishable from magic, but even the technomancers themselves don’t fully understand the artefacts they work with.

Unlike Bandit or Veteran, Technomacer is a full support character, unable to access elimination type abilities. To make up for that, she can learn both manoeuvres and support type abilities. If you use her toolkit right, you’ll turn your enemies lives into the nightmare, while your crew will be on top of their game.

Let’s look at her starting abilities:

Project force field - Technomancer uses her power glove to project a force field on an ally. This effect will give your crewmember shields, which act like health points until the end of the fight.

Find weakness - Technomancer uses her scanner to analyze an enemy’s defence, making it vulnerable for the rest of the fight. Any attack against it will now deal bonus damage!
On top of that, you can always use her basic attack to propel scrap right into foes’ faces.

Gather technology, outmanoeuvre your enemies and stay alert in the desert!

Devlog: Personality

Hi, everyone!
Today we’re going to talk about Personality.

Personality is one of two key characteristics you have to pick when creating a crew member. It helps define your starting skills and affects how the character sees the world and interacts with it. Personality will define the manner of speech, reactions to events, starting relationships and much more.

Each personality comes with a positive and a negative trait. Most of the time one of them will revolve around events, while the other will have an effect in the battle.

Here are some examples:

Daredevil - your character is reckless and daring. They like to put everything on the line for the sake of their enjoyment. They may get into trouble during the journey or throw a tantrum if you choose to avoid the risk, but they also inspire everyone with their crazy stunts during combat.

Lone wolf - your character has seen the truth about the world and it was ugly as hell. They don’t trust anyone or anything that is coming their way especially if it’s a good thing. Most of the time that pays off and you evade the unexpected danger. But that comes at a cost: at the start of the journey, Lone Wolf sees other crew members as two potential enemies.

Hermit - your character has become tired of constant bloodshed and left the “civilization” for a while. They found a way not only to survive, but to become one with nature. Now they are back with a friend: a desert beast, that accompanies them. However, Hermit’s distaste for unnecessary violence is still present and it may get into your way more than once.

And that’s not all:

Stay tuned to learn more and stay alert in the desert!

Devlog: The map

Hi, everyone!
We’re happy to present you the map screen.

Here you’ll chart a course to the unimaginable riches waiting you at the end of the journey. The team travels from left to right, never turning back. On each step of the way, you’ll decide where to go next.

Will you pick the dangerous path with ruins to pillage or peaceful one with the settlement so spend your hard earned cash? The choice is yours.
Remember to stay alert in the desert!

Devlog: Skills

Hi, everyone! Today we’re going to tell you a bit about character’s skills and how to improve them through the journey.

Your crewmembers are capable individuals, who are able to handle both wilderness and ancient ruins. Each of them has a set of skills, that will play a big role in global map events:

  • Athletics is a essential for traversing harsh environments, such as big eastern desert. It will let you travel long distances without getting exhausted, climb mountains or outrun a stronger enemy.
  • Persuasion covers all social situations and helps your character to convince, deceive or intimidate other people.
  • Stealth helps you go unnoticed, which is really useful if you don’t want to get bitten, stabbed or shot in a fight. Stealth may involve hiding, sneaking around or even smuggling ancient artefacts.
  • Investigation helps you find whatever you want. Every time you're looting a place for valuables, searching for something or trying to understand the situation this skill comes into play.
  • Knowledge lets you know all sorts of stuff about survival. Want to distinct edible and poisonous mushrooms? Want to deactivate a Steel Guardian? Want to figure out if a beast is aggressive or just playful? Upgrade this skill.

Talking about upgrades, there are two ways to improve your skills: training and failure.
You can learn from other people’s mistakes by paying for training courses: find a competent person, pay them and get better at a chosen discipline. Or you can go “cheap” way and learn from your own mistakes: every time a character fails to use one of their skills, they become better at it! You just have to survive in the process.

Stay alert in the desert and we’ll meet again!

Devlog: Insectoids

Hi, everyone! Today we present you one more wilderness menace - Insectoids.

These creatures typically travel in groups, but it’s not unknown to see them among other animals.

Not only they float like butterflies and sting like bees, but also possess a secret weapon - pheromones.

If the character gets sprayed over by this nasty attack, their scent will make them target for every enemy for the next turn. To make things worse, it also makes the victim vulnerable, so even a beefy fighter can be taken down in a moment.

Protect that poor soul with everything you got and remember to stay alert in the desert!
