Parkasaurus Enters Early Access Today!
Parkasaurus Enters Early Access Today!
Hi Dino friends! The time has come for Parkasaurus to enter Early Access.
First off the two of us who make up the Parkasaurus team want to thank everyone who playtested, gave us feedback, told their friends or forums about us, or just hung out in Discord and was awesome. Thanks. This has been a scary adventure which all of you made much easier. Now we begin the next phase!
We hope the Parkasaurus family gets bigger today, and with that comes a new group of people to help choose the direction of where we go. Yes – the next few weeks will likely be fixing terrible bugs and game balancing, but it also will be an opportunity to hear feedback from everyone and update our roadmap. Early Access support is crucial for a 2 person team like ours, and, we can’t thank you enough.
Not to stray too far from our usual updates, I just wanted to provide a little background to Parkasaurus and then some fun stuff.
The Origin of Parkasaurus
We thought it would be fun to share the origin of how we came to start making Parkasaurus. Although the game nods to previous games before it, the impetuous came from a handmade game design doc in the form of a colorful binder that is called DinoGame, with sparkles and all. DinoBook was split by tabs into categories, detailing how a dino tycoon sim game could work. Well – thanks to one of our wives, we fell in love with the idea of DinoGame and ran with it.
Now a little fun:
Wandering your park at night
No You Clean the Toilet
Food Court Design
Dinos with Style
Wandering your park at night
Spending the entire Parkasaurus day can sometimes be stressful, especially if you get a breakout. I like to take the time and use the free cam to enjoy the cool views at night.
Parkasaurus Update #020 : Steggos Coming Home
Parkasaurus Update #020 : Steggos Coming Home
We sent our Steggos out into the wild and they’ve found their way back. That’s an analogy for life, and also an analogy for sending out the Parkasaurus tutorial for a little feedback playtesting. At the moment we’re heavily looking at the game after the tutorial, so days 7+ of in-world time. We see so many different directions Parkasaurus can take and look forward to having people help out with those decisions.
And of course, as a reminder in 2 weeks, we’re releasing into Early Access on September 25th (eep!). Thanks to everyone who has been helping spread the news about Parkasaurus and getting our Wishlist numbers up!

Expanding the Family
The size requirements for each exhibit is dependent on the number of dinosaurs that are living there. If you add a new baby to your dino family you’ll need to increase the exhibit size to keep everyone happy. The easiest way to accomplish this is to add the extension fence first then remove the dividing portion (otherwise guests might get snacked on). The best part though is watching the baby & parent bonding at the end. :)
Steggos Coming Home
What can I say? Sometimes I find it fun to just create a massive Steggo herd to come storming out of the mountains onto our poor little food court village.
Watching the Hatch
Although not necessary I like to make an elevated enclosure around a hatching dino egg – like this little Tric. Oh, and to place down a front row seat for a perfect view. I'm very excited to see what other ideas people come up with in the game.
Valley o’ Dinos
We have a random terrain generation tool for the game that we will likely include for Early Access but keep it as an experimental feature until we have more time to smooth out the kinks. If people really find this fun we also can start to integrate it more into the game. I find the feature really useful for creating fun scenes like my Valley o’ Dinos.
Parkasaurus only happens because of your help
The two of us are trying our hardest to get the Parkasaurus word out to the interwebz, and we see all of you helping out! Keep it up! Pass on the word! Tell your neighbour to Wishlist us, get your sister to follow us on Twitter or get your co-worker to post about us on reddit or your school forums. Being a Parkasaurus Advocate is such a big help to us. Thanks. xoxo

Parkasaurus Update #019 : Our Journey Together
Parkasaurus Update #019 : Our Journey Together
Well it is frighteningly official. In fact, it is difficult to even type this out. Parkasaurus releases into Early Access on September 25th. On that day we start working together to create what we hope is a great dino tycoon management game. There will be some bumps in the road, there is no doubt. Will your computer catch on fire? Maybe. But, you’ll be able to help guide us with the features that you think are best, and provide feedback on all levels of the game. I’m excited. Scared. But excited.
I have one other big request. You and me have 4 weeks to get the word out. I’m sure everyone is busy, I get it. If you can find the time though, to pass the word on about Parkasaurus it really helps. Getting our Wishlist numbers up is critical. Thanks so much. Enough of this sappiness, let’s get to it!!!

NEW TRAILER
There is not a lot to say about the new trailer, except we had a lot of fun recording a ton of footage for it. We also had a few late nights. Either way we had a good time. There was a lot of clips we had to cut – but don’t worry, we’ll be posting the video that didn’t make it throughout the next 4 weeks on our social media links.

Early Access Date Announcement
We are releasing into Early Access September 25th. It is true, we had originally said Spring, then Summer, but hey, this is summer-like. Thanks to everyone who has Wishlisted the game – it really helps. Here is the link to pass on if you know a few people who might be interested in Parkasaurus and have yet to hear about it. (yes, there are lot’s of people like that)

Parkasaurus Update #018 : The Pursuit of Raptorness
Parkasaurus Update #018 : The Pursuit of Raptorness
Parkasaurus is humming right along. We’re feeling pretty happy with our complete re-do of the starting tutorial, and now are focusing on gameplay after 7+ days of park time. This includes income balancing which is a pretty big challenge at the moment, with only two of us it can be hard to get in a 2-hour game session. 😊 But! Have no fear, we know soon the community will be helping us out (hopefully) with balance, and providing great suggestions on what needs to change. We’ve already had some pretty cool suggestions on our Discord and Roadmap (all links below)

See in the dark
We added in some more interesting streetlights to give the player some more options when designing their park at night. My favorite is the string lights that attached from tall scenery objects in your park to other tall objects. This meant having to go through all our park build-ables and add the appropriate collisions which is a time-consuming process…but well worth it; I think. (I better of thought that since I had to do it)
Parkasaurus Update #017 : BETA v0.1
Parkasaurus Update #017 : BETA v0.1
Don’t ask me how but we hit our Beta v0.1 milestone and that means one large step closer to an Early Access candidate. We get asked about release date a lot – and we are hoping to hit the end of the summer – but we’re not going to put out Parkasaurus if it just isn’t ready. While we’re sure everyone will be understanding as we begin Early Access together – early supporters still deserve our best foot forward. We’re getting closer so be sure to pass on the word!

Setting Sun
With the newly updated free cam mode our newly introduced sun movement makes for some pretty amazing screenshots. In addition, we’ve been playing with random terrain generation. I’m not sure if we’ll be including this initially in Early Access but might leave it as an option. There is a lot more supporting work that is needed to make random terrain generation function properly. (It is a ton of fun though)
Kids will be Kids
Dino behavior and emergence! Excuse the bumpy camera (shakes when dinos run by) in this little clip of us catching some baby Kentrosaurus chasing their parents. It is fun to see all our freaking work start to pay off. (sorry for poor quality gif, our regular host seems broken)
Giant Snuggles
We did a major second pass on dinosaur A.I. which included aggression and affection behavior. Sometimes at night, it seems the brachiosaurus apatosaurus enjoy a little neck snuggle before falling asleep. Also, check out that night sky!
Bonus: Follow mom
Just a few baby Ankies chasing after mom. We can’t get enough of this. Why so many baby chasing mom pictures? Because pictures of us fixing a bug isn’t that exciting. 😊

Recently we’ve been working on how your dinos behave and co-exist with each other in the park. Our first step was to design how a single dino experiences the world by itself, and now we’re throwing all the dinos together. This results in a bunch of unexpected results. Luckily, we’ve implemented a utility AI that solves many of the problems and results in cool emergent gameplay.

“Are you my mom?”
Turns out Milo the baby Triceratops was quick to accept Daisy as his mom. In Parkasaurus you now can have unconventional family structures; a newly hatched baby dino usually latches on to the first adult dino they meet; even if a different species.
Inter-species exhibits
Experimentation into inter species exhibits has resulted in many questions, for example, what if the species desire different biomes? Does this mean it is possible to have 2 biomes in a single exhibit? If so how does the system decide the amounts of a biome in an exhibit when more than one exists? .
Dino mindfulness
Sometimes in the crazy world of running the ultimate dino best friend theme park, it's good for your sanity to take a moment when the park is closing to enjoy the beauty you've designed with your bare (digital) hands.
Camera fixes and don’t forget the fun
The two of us are furiously getting Parkasaurus ready for Early Access, and on occasion forget to have the goofs that are so important to our game (your game and mine). Therefore I like to take some time to create little exhibits and plop some accessories on our dinos, so, here’s Marvis wearing a fedora.
How you can help!

Parkasaurus Update #015 : Everybody needs a little private time
Lot’s to share for this Parkasaurus Update. In addition to improvements to the game, we’re also starting to tie in all the non-gameplay tasks that are really important like translations and reaching out to people who might be interested in previewing the game. There have been a few requests for a roadmap so I’d like to get that up for everybody sometime this week. Alright, let’s get to it:

A Little Privacy Please
Our continuing series that dives a little deeper into a few of the mechanics in Parkasaurus this week covers the Privacy System. This is one of the mechanics we think really makes Parkasaurus unique from the other dino park simulators and allows people who love to design a chance to be really creative with both form and function.

Late Night Dino Gazing
As we start to get closer to an Early Access release we’ve been going back over some of our original features to figure out which ones we want available for day 1 EA, and which ones we need to receive additional feedback from the community about. The general consensus from our Discord channel has been night lights are awesome – so we had to do a little work to get our night lights functioning again with our new shader system.
Employee Micro-managing
The employees in Parkasaurus automatically find appropriate tasks in the park to do based on a scoring system; this consists of distance to the tasks, dire need of the task to be done, assigned priority, etc. Sometimes though you might see an overflowing garbage can that you just need to get cleaned; so, we added the feature to directly assign tasks to your employees in the world.
Seasons are back in style!
Autumn is here. Well, more is the case the two of us have been fixing free cam bugs. This includes inspecting all our seasons using the free cam. My favorite season currently in the game is autumn but I must say winter is right up there.

Parkasaurus Update #014 : Easy on the Eyes
We are really looking forward to getting Parkasaurus into people’s hands to start receiving feedback and help. In preparation for this there has been a large focus on bug squashing and removing friction points in the game. Although there is an understanding that an Early Access game is really just the beginning of our long road together, we still want to put our best foot forward.

Winter is coming…
BUG BONUS: Ghost Vegetables
Promotion Art
As we get closer to Early Access (just writing that scares me) we really wanted promotional art that encompasses our vision and feels for Parkasaurus. This is the first piece of art we haven't done ourselves and think it really captures what we're trying to achieve in Parkasaurus and thrilled with it.
Milky Way
With the addition of a Dino cam and a Free cam meant people would eventually be able to look up at the sky. This meant needing a day sky and night sky. We'd always had an idea for how we'd do that and finally got to implement the feature using: 5 textures, 3 for the stars, 1 noise to control brightness and 1 for the clouds.
Winter is coming…
In Parkasaurus not only are there days of the week with changing weather, but you also cycle through the seasons. We recently had to go through all our season shaders to ensure they worked with the new lighting FX pass we did a few weeks ago. Here is your Parkasaurus park in the middle of winter. Research those wool-ly hats!
BUG BONUS: Ghost Vegetables
One of my favorite bugs from this week was our ghost veggies that wandered the park.

Parkasaurus Update #013 : We’re throwing off the gloves – to hold hands.
Summer is upon us (well, on our side of the Earth) and we’re celebrating by avoiding the outdoors and working feverishly on Parkasaurus. We’re extending the way players can explore their park with new cameras, doing extra work on Dino breakouts, and throwing some in depth information on that YouTube in the form of an Exhibit Pane Reveal video.
Update 013 Topics
Exhibit Pane Video
Dino Cam in the house
Betty breaking out
Exhibit Pane Video
In Parkasaurus the Exhibit Pane is a really valuable source of information about each exhibit, and how well the exhibit is tailored to your dino best friend. Therefor, as we get closer to Early Access we’ll be posting some videos to provide a little more information on the game systems.
https://youtu.be/SMq5adHsBUw
Dino Cam in the house
We love watching our dino best friends walk around their exhibit – so realized there had to be an even BETTER way than the normal park view. So, we made a Dino Cam! Now selecting a dino brings up their info pane – and you can click a little camera icon in the top left to enable Dino Cam mode, check it out.
Betty breaking out
Breakouts and dino attacks – errr – dino horse-play, is an important aspect of Parkasaurus – so we’re doing a few more iterations on how this mechanic works in game. Check out Betty as she tries to break out – she doesn’t know better, she’s just goofing around. (and causing havoc).
