Beware the witching hour of the Vestige

In the mystical realm of Issilith, the land was guarded by its own enigmatic protectors, the legendary Witches of Vestige, whose ageless existence was the stuff of legends. These formidable beings had long remained in a dormant slumber, biding their time as the world flourished.

However, an ominous presence has arrived awakening the witches from their long slumbers. This sinister force heralded a cataclysmic change that cast a shadow over the land of Issilith. From the once-vibrant Vast Marsh to the ominous Cursed Woods a malevolent corruption now crept across Solgard, distorting the very essence of Issilith's natural laws and energies.

As a result, the pure and benevolent magic that the Witches of Vestige had harnessed for centuries began to take a darker turn. The very nature they were sworn to protect became tainted, and the Vestige, once synonymous with healing and benevolence, shifted their focus towards political intrigue and the art of poisoncraft. Even the teeming flora and fauna, which had once embodied the beauty of Issilith, had devolved into terrifying abominations.

Amidst the chaos and tumultuous power struggles and political machinations within the factions of Vestige, one entity remained untainted—the Bratuscula, the Eternal Tree. This ancient and colossal tree held the key to the immortality of the witches. Its existence was paramount, for should it ever fall, their cycle of rebirth would be irrevocably shattered.

One extraordinary figure stood out in this tumultuous landscape—Saffron, the Sentinel. This colossal, seemingly unstoppable monster native to the Vast Marsh was thought to be impervious to any force. But it was the beguiling magic of Lucille, the former Queen of the Vestige, that had charmed and tamed the mighty creature, soothing it with her enchantments. Now, Saffron served the witches without question, a formidable guardian in these perilous times.

In the face of this profound shift in the Vestige faction, a select few sought to harness the transformed powers of nature and unlock the secrets of their newfound poisons. These individuals, once healers, now found themselves walking the fine line between protecting their realm and embracing the darkness that had seeped into their world. The Vestige faction, once a beacon of hope and light, had become a complex and morally ambiguous realm, where power, politics, and poison intertwined.

Avatar Lore: Nex, The Matriarch

Nex, known as the Matriarch, stands as a unique and enigmatic entity within the vast cosmos of PHAGEBORN. She defies conventional understanding, for Nex is not a singular being but a culmination of all iterations that preceded her, representing the intricate cycle of life and rebirth within the Void. As her life cycle nears its end, Nex incubates a special Voidling within her, devouring all the other Voidlings until it grows strong enough to devour Nex from the inside completely. Through this process, Nex imparts her entire consciousness, along with all the knowledge, wisdom, and memories of her previous iterations. Her existence embodies continuity and unity, preserving the legacy of generations.

Nex's extraordinary skill, “Inject,” enables her to target a local non-infested enemy unit, transforming it into an Infested unit. These Infested units serve as vessels for her offspring, and when they meet their end, they spawn a Voidling as a last wish, turning your enemies into allies.

Nex possesses a range of potent traits, including Mother’s Wrath, Parasitic Infusion, and Swarmbringer.

Mother's Wrath: As the matron of a fearsome lineage, Nex channels her fury when Voidlings under her care meet their demise. For each owned Voidling that perished since the last turn, she gains a surge of +1 power, becoming even more formidable.

Parasitic Infusion: Nex's mastery and formidable nature extend beyond individual units. When she subdues an enemy Avatar, her prowess on the battleground spawns a Great Voidling locally.

Swarmbringer: Nex's command over infestation knows no bounds. Her unique skill, "Inject," can be employed twice in quick succession during a single turn, allowing her to spread her parasitic influence far and wide, targeting both local and non-local units.

Unveil the depths of Nex's powers and unleash her parasitic might on the battlegrounds of PHAGEBORN! Join the community on Discord and embark on epic adventures today!

Card Art Showcase: Zarkk, The Dweller of Eternity

Dear Denizens of Issilith,

"The form you see is just a probe, a harbinger. Some day soon, we would love to show you exactly what it is attached to." - Hazzerin, Harbinger of Tza'thog

Within the Void, the vast realm where Oblivion roam, hidden amongst the shadows, dwell insidious entities that yearn to spill forth into our own world. Among these enigmatic beings stands Zarkk, an initially unassuming Voidling whose deceptive simplicity hides his true nature. What we see as his ever-shifting form represents but a fraction of his cosmic existence, an entity adrift between realms, cautiously testing the boundaries before fully committing to our reality. Fortunately, the greater extent of Zarkk's essence remains barred from entering our world, at least for now.

While Zarkk's presence in our world remains limited, his impact is anything but insignificant. This legendary Voidling, with a only power of 2 and simple health of 1, might appear fragile, but his uncanny ability defies his unassuming nature. At the end of each turn, should Zarkk find himself relegated to the graveyard, he defies death itself, Rejoining your hand to bolster your forces and conquer the battleground once more.

Elusive and enigmatic, Zarkk embodies the power of the Oblivion. Join the community on Discord and embark on epic adventures in the world of PHAGEBORN!

Voidlings

When the residents of Issilith recount their stories, they often speak of ominous legends surrounding the overwhelming might of Oblivion Primes and the malevolent specters of ancient, grotesque mis-evolved entities. Yet, amid the dark abyss of The Void, one must not overlook the unsettling potential of lesser void dwellers.

While it is undeniable that an awakened Oblivion Prime can ascend to a god-like state of supremacy, and certain mis-evolved horrors possess an insatiable hunger capable of devouring entire worlds, it is the relentless hordes of the Voidlings that pose a different, but equally formidable, threat.

Marooned in foreign realms, far from their astral origins, Voidlings revert to primal instincts akin to untamed beasts. They are driven by an unquenchable appetite for the essence of the living. Their communion occurs in eerie silence, a telepathic bond weaving their collective intellect and capabilities, all under the dominion of the enigmatic entity that controls them.

Within this shadowy tapestry, notable Voidlings like the enigmatic Netherspitters and inscrutable Zarkk lurk at the periphery, their names whispered in hushed tones among those knowledgeable about The Void.

Unified within this hive-minded confluence, Voidlings manifest as a lurking peril, a constant reminder of the ominous depths of Oblivion's grasp. To underestimate these inscrutable entities is to court Oblivion itself.

Delve further into the harrowing chronicles of PHAGEBORN and beware the shadowy void. Join the community on Discord and embark on epic adventures in the world of PHAGEBORN!

Secret Communication

I will make this communication brief, lest a fellow assassin stumble upon me so distracted in thought during our telepathic communion.

Does Commander Hazzerin send further word regarding our plot? I understand his need for surety when it comes to attacking the Overminds themselves, but, as you can imagine, one who has dedicated their life to such a deadly craft has a limit when it comes to watching and waiting without drastic action.
Living within this world, where our every movement is connected to our antagonists within a maze of string, and tendrils, and consciousness… I can’t help but fear that any moment our secrets will catch on a trip wire, and the Overminds will have us in their grip before our coup has even begun to hatch. In my mind, I imagine that the scent of prey is slathered upon me and at any moment I shall be hunted. Some other creatures shall consume my very essence and take it for themselves, evolving from what was once mine, and taking all my knowledge of our order with them.

You may laugh all you like, call my anxiety and fear foolish, yet you cannot change the existence of these emotions. How can you when such powerful beings roam alongside us, their eyes itching to seek me and my deception out? I witness the Primes and can’t help but think of how they could use their endless power to pry any information they wished out of me should they catch a whiff in the air. I beg on Commander Hazzerin to make haste. I do not doubt him. I do not doubt our goal of mutiny. Yet, I doubt. I suppose I doubt myself. I doubt the future of Oblivion.

I beg that you do not mishear my words. I gladly sacrifice myself to the cause. I’ve felt the need for this rebellion since the day I severed my connection to the hive mind. Though I’ve dedicated my work to eliminating threats to the Overminds, I have felt a threat building within myself. I wish to end their rule just as you do. Just as Hazzerin does. Just as the rest of our secret order does. My strength remains in spite of this approaching dread, and it shall not wither. I am under Hazzerin’s command until the end; I swear it upon Oblivion itself. No matter the costs that may lie in the way. My only hope is that those costs may be as few as possible.
