Pinkman

1.4.3 is live!

Hi, everyone! 😊

I had a lot of fun working on the latest big update (1.3.0), and since I’m planning to start a new project very soon, I decided to invest just a little more time on polishing a few things here and there, with some new additions as well. I’ll list all the cool changes belows. šŸŽ®

Please, let me know if you have any issues with this update, so I can fix it as soon as possible! šŸ’»

  • Coyote time - The big star of this update is by far the coyote time feature! Present in both wall jumps and edge jumps. I also added a jump buffer for standard ground jumps. If you’re not very familiar with these concepts, I highly recommend you to take a look at this video from Mark Brown, where he explains what made Celeste feel so good to play. (https://youtu.be/yorTG9at90g)
  • Improved checkpoints - Before this update, checkpoints could be used in any order, be activated multiple times in the same level or even entirely skipped. It resulted in many many ā€œimpossible to completeā€ levels depending on how the player approached the level. To fix this, I redesigned small parts of almost all levels, made the checkpoints have collision boxes based on the ceiling above them, made them break after the next checkpoint is activated and made them wait for you to complete your pending tasks before being enabled, like pressing a button or something like that. This is a very robust system, which took me quite a long time to get right, but I’m sure it will make the game a lot more enjoyable and fair.
  • Ghost safety distance - To make sure that the player will never end up in an infinite death loop if he reaches a checkpoint while being touched by a ghost, I set a safety distance that will move the ghost about five blocks away from the main character upon respawn.
  • More achievements - There are three new achievements for you all to seek, they’re all based on ā€œsecretsā€ of the game and should be fairly easy to acquire if you already finished the game before.
  • Improved color palettes - I replaced some of the color palettes and adjusted others, just to make sure the main character is visible all the time. Some of the old color palettes could make you squeeze your eyes very hard and that’s not cool.
  • New cover art - At last, but not least, there’s a new cover art! It was made by my very good friend, Bruno Brito (Cabrito, AKA same guy who made the cover art for my most recent games), and was heavily inspired by the whole retro synthwave culture thing. I personally love it and I think it represents the game very well.

I also fixed some issues related to various parts of the game.

  • Fixed a bug where the main character could spawn way too many limbs, if killed by more than one hazard in a single frame.
  • Fixed a bug where projectiles coming from the 4-Direction gun could go through other solid objects.
  • Fixed a bug where beans were not consumed, even if the player didn’t have a full fart bar.
  • Fixed a bug where the main character could play the wrong animation when trying to fly towards the ceiling.
  • Fixed a bug where the player could pause the game during a fade animation, resulting in a ā€œblack screenā€.

Well, thank you very much for playing Pinkman, I really appreciate the fact that you gave one of my games a chance! Have a great one. ✨

BTW, your in-game progress won't be lost! Everything should stay in place. šŸ’¾

1.3.1 is live!

Hi, everyone! 😊

In the big 1.3.0 update I added checkpoints to the game to make it more accessible to casual players, but an user called ā€œbENgā€ suggested adding a ā€œhard modeā€ with no checkpoints, so hardcore players can also enjoy the game.

The hard mode was added as a secret mode, that can be activated by entering the classic Konami code in the game’s main menu.

Here's a small instructions manual for gamepad users and for how to activate the hard mode.

1.3.0 is live!

Hi, everyone! 😊

I’ve been working with some amazing people from another company (can’t really mention their name right now because of our NDA contract) in order to bring Pinkman to more platforms, to do that, we needed to update quite a lot of stuff in the original project by adding new features and improving the old ones. Since most of the work is already done, there was literally no reason for me to not release this content as a free update for you all. I’ll list the changes below. šŸŽ®

Please, let me know if you have any issues with this update, so I can fix it as soon as possible! šŸ’»

Patch notes 1.3.0

  • Checkpoints - I really want to make games accessible, so hardcore players can show their skills by making amazing speedruns, while more casual players can simply have some fun without the frustration of restarting an entire level again because its final segment is too hard.
  • New font - The old font was very small and had unified spacing, making it very hard to read overall, so I included a new one called "Silver", which is made the amazing people at Poppy Works for absolutely free. I think it will improve the game a lot, mainly the tutorials that introduces new mechanics.
  • Credits - I didn't had any credits in the game before, at all. To fix that, I included the new lovely Green Dinosaur Games logo as a splash screen and the OST composers names in the title screen. They did a great job and I think they really deserve their spot there.
  • Optimization - The game was released in 2017 and I improved my coding skills a lot since then, I think I was able to reduce the game code by something between 20% and 30%. You probably won't notice any difference regarding performance, but it's always good to have optimized code, you never know.
  • Bugs - There were some very small bugs in the game that I personally never noticed, at least not before I play tested it for days like I did recently. For example: did you know you could actually trigger a ghost and stand inside it without being killed by it? Yeah, me neither haha. Well, every single bug I was able to find was absolutely fixed. But, if you ever find anything else that looks out of place just let me know, please.
  • New timer - I know some players love to make speedruns, so I added a new timer to the game that will properly format the text like the standard "00 : 00 : 00" instead of just "1864 seconds". This is more of a quality of life improvement.
  • New input system - To be honest, I think Pinkman's old input system was already very precise and felt great for the player, but it was kind of a nightmare to maintain, so I made an entirely new one, which is easier to maintain and with better gamepad support.
  • New SFX - Some items and traps in the game didn't had any sound effects, so I added a few new ones that you might notice while playing the game for a second time.
  • Cursor - No more cursor! Yes, I finally managed to hide it while in the game, which makes a lot of sense since it's not really used anywhere, not even in the menus.
  • Thanks letter - There was a very small grammer issue in the last word of the final letter, it have been there since 2017 apparently and I never noticed it, which is unbelievable, because I literally read it hundreds of times. Well, as you probably already noticed, english is far from being my main language, so that makes the situation a little more acceptable. Anyway, it's fixed now!

Well, thank you very much for playing Pinkman, I really appreciate the fact that you gave one of my games a chance! Have a great one. ✨

1.2.1 is live!

Hi, everyone!

I've recently received a message from a Pinkman player that really enjoyed the overall experience, which makes me very happy to know, however the only issue he had with the game was related to the control scheme. He told me it was not very comfortable for everyone to use arrow keys + "Z" and "X" for skills, so I implemented a secundary control scheme (beyond the controller support) with WASD + "K" and "L" for skills, which can also be used without any need to touch the game settings.

In this update I also fixed a very small bug that I'll describe below.

Well, thank you very much for playing Pinkman, I really appreciate the fact that you gave one of my games a chance! Have a great on. 😊

Patch notes 1.2.1

  • Added a new secundary control scheme (WASD).
  • Fixed a bug where the player was able to start a jump while in pause menu.

Hi, everyone!

Today is a really happy day for me, Steam just approved my next game store page, so it's already visible for everyone! This is a great step for me since I'm trying really hard to become a good indie game developer.

The game itself will be avaible on September 10th, but you can already add it to your beautiful wishlist.

Thank you very much to everyone who played Pinkman and Duck Souls, you literally changed my life forever for the better! ːpinkneonheartː

1.2.0 is live!

Hi, everyone!

Since launch Pinkman only uses synthwave songs under a CC-0 license, which is ideal for commercial projects. But some time ago one of the artists decided to change his song license, so i’m updating the game to remove his song and add a new one in place to avoid any licensing problem. I hope you all enjoy the new track.

Patch notes 1.2.0

  • Replaced one of the game songs to avoid any licensing problem.
  • Added a hidden message in your clipboard.

1.1.9 is live!

Hi, everyone! It’s been a long time since the last update (a year and half, i guess) which is totally understandable since Pinkman is technically a complete game. But, recently i had a few problems with another developer who noticed some similarities between the main character animations on Pinkman and the main character animations on his game, so to avoid any future problems i decided to redesign every Pinkman animation and also fix/adjust a few things in the game. Here’s a list of every change i made:

Patch notes 1.1.9

  • Every animation for the main character was redesigned from the ground up.
  • A bug that allowed the fart meter to reach negative values and display itself incorrectly is fixed.
  • The grammar of every in-game tutorial were checked and corrected when necessary.
  • Almost every title screen phrases were rewritten just to keep things fresh.

It would be rude to not say thank you.

Hi, everyone

Since October of 2016 I've been dedicating almost all of my time to game development, I've already made two games called: Pinkman and Duck Souls, they're probably the thing that I'm most proud of in my entire life, every single pixel and sound of these games were made with a lot of love. Each one of them took me about six months of work to complete, but I can confidently say that those were incredible six months of pure joy to me. I've a little philosophy for making games, it doesn't matter what kind of art style the game is going to be or the kind of music and sound effects, the game just needs be fun to play, if I can have fun playing a mediocre prototype then I'm sure it's worth working on. It's like self love, if you don't know how to love yourself, what make you think someone else will? So yes, I love Pinkman, Duck Souls and everyone who gave them a little chance, because working full time as an indie game developer is a dream that's slowly coming true for me. Pinkman and Duck Souls have sold almost 10.000 copies since their release and i couldn't be happier. It would be really rude to not say thank you for your support up till now. Thank you for giving me a chance and hope, i would never imagine that someone so amazing like you would play something i made. Thank you! :pinkneonheart:

Some good news!

Hi, everyone! It's been a long time since my last post here, but i'm still alive and i hope that all of you enjoyed playing Pinkman as much as i did making it! :)
Well, first of all i would like to thank everyone here for supporting me and Pinkman. Developing, publishing and see people playing the game i made with my heart and soul is amazing, i can't even describe how does it feel. Because of that i decided that i want to keep making games for the rest of my life and hopefully make a living out of it in the near future. That's why i created my developer page here on Steam (Green Dinosaur Games), to make everything "official" and to post news about my next game, which i'm planning to release on july or agoust of this year. I would love if you guys could follow me there, so i can keep everyone notified about what's happening during the development and also receive some of your precious feedback.

Well, i guess that's all i've to say for now, thank you so much for everything! I love you all! :pinkneonheart:
